Unforeseen Consequences
Chapter 7 War and teams assembled
Author's notes I do not own Marvel just the idea for this fic which is set in an AU Along with my OC's Jack and Graham Williams and others who might show up in this fic in future chapters like The Serpent. Also, some characters will be OOC in this story.
And I know in GOTG Vol 3, it was revealed Peter's grandfather is named Jason Quill, but as I already have named him Greg Quill in chapter 5, so he will be called that in this story going forward.
Lastly, I am dedicating this chapter to my late father who passed away a few weeks ago.
That is enough of an author's notes, on with chapter 7.
Unknown Location
The plane landed at the base and Cobra led Dr Charles out of the plane where he saw the new head of HYDRA who Cobra told him about, The Serpent there waiting to greet him as other HYDRA members stood has an honour guard.
The Serpent in his black and red armour and the black and red skull mask said "Welcome back home Dr Charles. HYDRA welcomes you back into the fold."
The two men shook hands as Dr Charles said "Thank you for freeing me from my Russian hotel room. The food was awful, has was the service and the other guests broke my legs requiring me to need this wheelchair. Not a place I recommend for a holiday, sir."
Serpent laughed at the joke, as did Dr Charles before Serpent turned to face the other members of HYDRA assembled and said ""Let this man be an example for all of you. He spent decades in a Russian prison and never broke or forgot his loyalty to us. He is the ideal person HYDRA is looking for."
Dr Charles then asked "Cobra mentioned that you want me to head up, what is it exactly?"
The Serpent replied "Project Resurgence, inspired by your project. The one you headed up in Siberia. My own teams have tried and failed to do what you did. I want you to head up the project. Get yourself some food, a shower, and some sleep. Anything you want is yours."
Dr Charles just said "I'll have a quick bite to eat, then get right to work."
Serpent smiled at that saying "I'll make sure the chef prepares whatever your heart desires and that your research team knows to expect you."
Dr Charles was led to the mess hall has Serpent made sure the chef got his orders, before went to his office and sat by his wife's bedside has he thought back to when he and Ophelia got married. What a lovely day it had been.
Flashback 6 months ago
The Serpent smiled in the small church has his wife to be, Ophelia walked down the aisle in a black wedding dress, he was in a black suit and the witnesses, all Hydra members were happy to see their leaders finally tie the knot.
The priest also part of Hydra started the ceremony and when it came time to the vows, Serpent went first saying "Ophelia, the day I meet you. I knew I found my soulmate. My other half and someone who could lead HYDRA to glory and I vow to ensure that is done. You will do what the likes of Red Skull; Whitehall and the other fools could never do!"
Ophelia said her own vows "Behind every great woman, there is a great man. Together we will lead HYDRA to a new golden age. All our enemies will fall. You are my soulmate. HYDRA's new golden age starts today!"
They kissed has the priest and the witnesses all applauded and shouted out "Hail Hydra!"
End of flashback
Serpent smiled at that happy memory and the happiness soon turned to anger at what happened to Ophelia, he swore SHIELD would pay for what happened, in blood.
SHIELD HQ
In the morning, after taking some medication to help with the hangovers some of the adults had from the previous night's drinking, the Guardians of the Galaxy were having a light breakfast with Secretary of State Ross and Greg Quill.
Little Groot was enjoying some of the sugary cereal as Greg and Ross told them a bit about how they knew each other, Gamora listened on as they talked about knowing one another soldiers in a war fought in a place called Vietnam.
Ross explained "We were caught in an enemy ambush, our chopper was hit by anti-aircraft fire, shot down. Several of us wounded, pilots dead. Greg grabs the M60 machine and starts opening fire, holds them off long enough till we get a relief chopper to evacuate the wounded. He saved my life and 5 others, that got him the highest military honour we can bestow in this country, the Medal of Honor."
Gamora looked over at Peter and remarked "Being a hero runs in the family."
Peter smiled and said to Greg "He set a good example. So, I try to live up to it."
Rocket spoke up "Next time we go to Xander, we get Nova Prime to big us some medals for helping save the galaxy, not just once but twice. Plus, a billion Units!"
The team laughed at Rocket making that request and getting rejected outright on the spot.
Suddenly Ross got a phone on his secure phone, read the text message, and said "I must go. Greg it was great to see you again and help get this family reunion done. Guardians, it's been a pleasure."
The two men shook hands as Greg thanked him saying "Do what you have got to do. I will keep on telling them some of our exploits, should I mention what happened in South Korea that one night after late night Karaoke."
Ross looked at him saying "Don't mention that."
He walked away smiling and laughed as Greg told him "No promises!"
Ross quickly left SHIELD HQ has the small convoy of vehicles headed to Washington DC. It seems the current situation in North Korea with the rebels was escalating.
SHIELD Research Base
Hank Pym ignored the phone that was ringing at first, he kept his focus on his efforts to look for a way to rescue his wife Janet from the Quantum Realm.
SHIELD was providing anything Hank requested and more, though he ignored efforts by some SHIELD scientists to offer and help with his efforts. He did not need or want their help and the quickly left the base to go elsewhere, they would be wanted.
Only time he really acknowledged his SHIELD supervisors is when a box was delivered to him, containing Pym particles that HYDRA had taken off with when Cross was taken down long ago. He was glad now that his particles were no longer in HYDRA's hands, that had given him quite a few sleepless nights, thinking what they could do with it.
The constant ringing of the phone made Hank finally look to see who was calling, he was surprised to see it was Bill Foster and answered the call asking "What is it?"
Bill replied "I need your help with something. Where can we meet?"
Hank told him of a place nearby to meet up once Bill confirmed he was near where he was and arranged a time for the meeting at a nearby café in an hour.
When it was time to meet, Hank saw Bill was already there at the cafe having a coffee, Hank asked what Bill needed to see him about and Bill took out a folder from a bag, with a SHIELD insignia on it before he said "Ava Starr, the daughter of our old colleague Elihas Starr and his wife Catherine. Ava is dying, I need your help to save her life."
Hank listened as Bill told him everything, what happened with Elihas and his wife, the experiment they were running on Quantum Tunnels that lead to Ava's current situation.
Hank thought about it, before he agreed to help save the life of this young woman.
With that, Hank invited Bill to his new research lab SHIELD was providing. They had work to do.
SHIELD HQ
Jack Williams cleaned up after the brief disagreement he had with Phil Coulson was standing next to Natasha Romanoff has the members of their team arrived one by one in the meeting room.
All of them were members of SHIELD or ex members, all of them were assembled here for one purpose, the complete destruction of HYDRA.
Once the last of them, former SHIELD agent Ben Shannon arrived and sat down on an empty chair, Natasha began telling them the situation, "I received intel that HYDRA is under new leadership. They are rebuilding and planning something big."
Jack then said "Everyone in this room, has suffered at the hands of HYDRA. We want to put together a team. An elite team of some of the best SHIELD has and had. We need to be just as ruthless has they are. Neither myself or Agent Romanoff will order you to join this team. If you do not want to. Simply walk out the door, but you will be sworn to silence, to not breathe a word of this to anyone else. But if you are in, prepared to be in this, till the end. Raise your hand."
None of the agents stood up to leave, not one of them.
Jack smiled at this and the elite team known as Team Hunter was formed.
With that, Natasha started to tell the team, what intel her contact had given her. It would be a good place to start in this mission.
It seemed that low level Hydra members were buying weapons from black market arms dealers who SHIELD kept tabs on, that could only mean Hydra had plans to do attacks, either a bunch of little attacks, or one real big one.
Hopefully SHIELD would be able to stop it and, in the process, learn who was now leading HYDRA and cut the head off the snake for good.
White House Situation Room – a few hours later
Secretary of State Ross entered the room, seeing that President Ellis, the Joint Chiefs and the rest of the cabinet were already there he asked "What's happened?"
General Andrews said "China is massing troops on the border with North Korea. At least several divisions of troops with tanks in tow. No indication that they are going into North Korea to help Kim's regime survive."
Secretary of Defence Robert Franklin spoke up "Not yet. They could still have those troops go down into the DPRK and help Kim escape his death sentence. His loyalist troops are falling back to Pyongyang, for what looks like their final stand against the rebels."
President Ellis then asked "Any intel from the CIA, or SHIELD as to where Kim Jong Un might be at this moment?"
The director of the CIA Harry Steveson answered "We know his wife and children have fled the country, has did his younger sister, He is not with them. We think he might be in Pyongyang, preparing to go down with his regime if there is not some last-minute military intervention by China."
One of the massive screens showing news from CNN showed video of North Korean state media broadcasting a speech from Kim Jong Un himself, proclaiming that the traitors were driven back, all across the nation and would be drowned in the sea like the rats they were. Urging that victory was on the side of the DPRK.
Graham Williams sitting near President Ellis scoffed at that remarking "Proclaiming victory is near, while his troops still loyal to him are fleeing to the capital on mass and other cities in North Korea are in ruins. When do we think that was made?"
One general said "Probably weeks ago. Mr President. I think it is high time for us to consider a military intervention, we can have our troops in addition to South Korean and Japanese troops cross into North Korea, deal with the loyalist forces who are left, take out Kim if he is indeed still in Pyongyang and take possession of the DPRK nuclear stockpile before they end up in the wrong hands."
President Ellis was silent as everyone else in the room turned to look at him, to see if he would indeed give the order, he said "I will confer with the Prime Minister of Japan and the President of South Korea, get their opinions on this, but for now keep the option open. We have the troops on the South Korean side of the DMZ in force, we just keep there for now. On standby."
The orders were given to the troops in South Korea to remain on high alert has President Ellis got on the phone first to the Prime Minister of Japan, before he would contact South Korea's President to see if they would approve a military incursion into North Korea if it had to be done.
He hoped it would not have to be.
New York City
Bruce Banner sat at his table in the restaurant as he waited to see if she would show up. He smiled slightly as he saw who he called arrive.
It was his ex-girlfriend Betty Ross, the two of them hugged one another and Bruce with a smile asked "How you've been Betty?"
Betty smiled answering "I am good. Been busy at the university and helping with some projects, Doing well. How about yourself, saw on the news you had been on some alien planet since what happened in Sokovia."
Bruce started to tell her about what he knew about his time on Sakaar as the other guy from what Val had told him about it on the way from Asgard to Earth.
The conversation turned to their love lives and Bruce was happy to hear Betty had gotten back together with Leonard Sampson after what happened at Culver University and later what happened in Harlem with Abomination. He had seemed like a good man all things considered.
He mentioned to her how he met someone as well and Betty joked that they should go on a double date sometime, as she would like to meet this woman and Bruce pictured in his head the fast friendship Val would have with Betty and all the teasing at his expense that would happen. It made him laugh out loud, something he had done in a long time. It felt good.
The two of them enjoyed their dinner together, before Bruce asked Betty "When is the last time you talked to your father? He had mentioned the heart attack he had on the golf course and that you did not go to see him or even contact him after what happened in Harlem. He told me that heart attack, almost dying. Gave him clarity. He knows that he was wrong and we both made our peace. Call him Betty."
Betty did not say another word, she put down money for the meal and left the restaurant has Bruce hoped that she would reach out to Ross, so both she and her dad could try to move past what happened and reconnect.
North Korea
Deep in a bunker, in an office on his own was none other than the Dear Leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, he was angry, angry about a lot of things.
He was angry at is incompetent generals who had failed him. The people who turned against him, those in the army who joined with these traitors among his people, his diplomats abroad who turned on him and condemned him and his father and grandfather before him as monsters in interviews with the world's media.
Everything was falling apart; he was going to lose everything and his allies in China were not sending their troops on the border in to help the DPRK crush these traitors among his people and the Russians were busy dealing with the chaotic protests going on against the Russian government to be of any help whatsoever.
He was on his own and when one of his loyal general entered the room, he saw from the look on his face that this would not be good news and the general with fear in his voice said "The army failed to halt the attacks of the traitors. The commander ordered a full retreat back here to the capital. We only have a few divisions here now and once those troops in retreat get here, the traitors who are not far behind them, will encircle the capital and we will be trapped."
Kim screamed out in a rage at this news and the general took a few steps back terrified, the man once revered has a living god in North Korea knew who was to blame for this fall from grace, the United States, they were to blame for this and they would pay dearly for it.
Kim Jong Un looked at his general and asked "How many of our sites are still under our control?"
The General answered honestly "3 of them, the others are in rebel hands or cannot be contacted. What are your orders?"
The tyrant of North Korea answered "Rain down fire on America. If we are going down. Their going down alongside us."
The general nodded and got on a phone to give out the orders to the 3 missile sites still under their control, the commanders acknowledged the order and gave out the command to the troops.
Within several minutes, 5 Hwasong-15 missiles were launched and heading into the sky towards their targets.
The launches were detected by the US within a minute and orders were given out.
The White House
US President Ellis was woken up in bed as he and his wife heard footsteps and noise, the door to the bedroom was opened and a Secret Service agent said "Mr President, you and the First Lady need to come with us right away. North Korea has launched nuclear missiles."
President Ellis and his wife instantly got up out of bed as Ellis was in shock at this news, Kim Jong Un actually did it, he must truly have lost his mind.
They were led out of the White House towards Marine One which would take them and the others with them that were needed to Air Force One as per protocol in a situation like this.
The world would never be the same again, not after this.
