Sam

Sam had been having a hard time, staying away from the one person you loved was a lot harder than he thought. She had been calling and texting non stop begging him to just talk to her but he couldn't.

His heart was hurt, not broken but hurt. He had asked her twice to marry him and twice she hadn't given him an answer. He missed her, more than words could account for and even in that moment as he walked through his house he could smell her perfume. He missed how she always smelled like honey and strawberries, he missed her laugh and how cute she looked sleeping tucked beside him. She was it for him the moment they met and for some fucked up reason her father didn't deem him good enough.

His family faced some hard times back when they first met but Mercedes never judged him or his family. She was always so kind to him and that's what attracted him to her in the first place, her kindness. She always greeted him with a warm smile and never belittled him like his other girl friends, she embraced his nerdy side and somehow they fell in love but he was starting to realize that not everyone cared how well you treated someone if they didn't want you to be together they'd make sure of it.

Just like her father did when he sent her off to boarding school and just like her father tried to pay off his father to keep them apart only it didn't work.

Flashback

KNOCK! KNOCK!

"Sam, are you expecting anyone?" Dwight asked his son who shook his head before looking back at his phone. Dwight Evans could tell something was wrong with his son but didn't want to pressure him into telling him what it was, he would allow Sam to come to him when he was ready.

When he opened the door he was met by a big mad man with an annoyed expression.

"Dwight Evans?"

"Who's asking?"

"Can I speak to you privately... it's a pressing issue that needs addressing immediately." Dwight modded stepping outside and closing the door behind him.

"My name is Nathan Jones." Nathan said, holding his hand out for Dwight to shake, Dwight nodding, giving him a warm smile.

"Any relation to Mercedes Jones?" He asked, shaking the other man's hand.

"Well she's my daughter actually, that's why I'm here. We need to talk about your son's involvement with my daughter." Nathan said with a hint of bite that Dwight didn't take too kindly to and put his guard up immediately.

"I'm listening."

"They can no longer see each other." Nathan said flatly.

"Well, is there a reason why you don't want them to be together? Has my son done something to hurt her?" Dwight asked, feeling he might not like the answer.

"He's been sleeping with my daughter, I caught them today actually." Nathan answered feeling his self growing angry all over again and Dwight just nodded.

"Did he force himself on her? Sorry I'm just trying to get to the reason why we would interject ourselves into their relationship... Mercedes has been so kind to us all and my son as far as I've seen has never so much as said a crass word to her... is this about them or about you?"

"I'm willing to pay you to make sure your son stays away from my daughter. I have a check here for half a million dollars and I did some digging, this plus me paying off your old mortgage will set you and your family up pretty nicely. All you have to do is agree and it's yours." Nathan said holding the check in his hand with a smirk. Dwight let out a deep laugh shaking his head and then laughing harder when he saw Nathan's expression change to confusion.

"My family can't be bought, sure we may not have much and may hit some hard times but my son hasn't been this happy in years and I know it has a great deal to do with that sweet daughter of yours. Now I can tell him how disrespectful it was to assume you'd be okay with your daughter having sexual in your home but I will never tell my child he can't be with someone he clearly loves. I will not involve myself in this bullshit." Dwight said before leaving the man standing there shocked as he slammed the door in his face.

"Samuel Dwight Evans, explain and you better make it good."

"I'm in love with her.. I have been since I met her and I know I should have told you about me and Mercedes having sex but... I got nervous." Sam blurted out as his siblings looked on, confused.

"Dad, what's sex and why does Sam have it with Mercedes?" Stacie asked innocently, causing Dwight's eyes to grow large.

"Yeah how come Sam gets to have it with her and we don't?" Stevie chimed in, making Sam's and Dwight's faces turn bright red.

"Oh dear God please go to sleep!" Dwight said to his two youngest kids who just gave him a questionable look before huffing and doing as they were told.

Dwight nodded for Sam to follow him outdoors. He winked at his two youngest before closing the door and letting out a deep sigh.

"You sure she's the one?"

"Am I too young to feel this way?" Sam asked, his face growing bright pink and his eyes watery.

"I knew the second I met your mother, so no but the only difference is your grandfather liked me. I have a strong feeling Mr. Jones does not like you at all and from what I heard about him catching you I can't say I wouldn't be too upset to see that either."

"I admit I was wrong for being careless... I didn't even-"

"Don't you dare say you didn't have any protection or I might just take his offer."

"What offer?" Sam asked, looking confused.

"Nothing you need to worry about but for now keep your visits PG and preferably here." Dwight said calmly before pulling his son into a tight hug.

"Don't ever forget to use protection again. I know you love her but that kind of love results in little people." He added, making them both laugh.

End Flashback

Sam ran hand over his face feeling tired mentally, he wanted so badly to call her back but he didn't know what to say... he asked her to marry him and it wasn't on a whim, he'd wanted to ask her that when they graduated high school.

He walked into his bathroom feeling weird because he knew he'd turn the light off before he left for work and when he looked at the counter he saw a small piece of paper with his name written on it and he immediately recognized the handwriting.

She had been there. He felt his heart flip and a slow smile spread across his face as he smooth a finger over the note before opening it.

Baby.

He flipped it over but didn't see anything else he read it again feeling even more confused than last time before noticing the paper towel and pulling it open. He froze, he saw the three test sitting there with three blazing positives and he understood what she was telling him.

He quickly ran out of the bathroom grabbing his phone quickly dialing her number and waited patiently for her to answer.

"Sammy?"

"Come home, come home baby!" He said and could sense her smiling making him smile too.

"I can only stay-"

"I don't care, just come home baby."

"Open the door." She said before hanging up as he rushed to open the door, he didn't wait a second before pulling her into a hug and kissing her all over her face.

"God I missed you so much! I missed you so much baby!" He said kissing her lovingly.

"I missed you too. Sam I'm so sorry about all this me-." Her words were cut off by him kissing her tenderly. When he pulled away he just shook his head and walked them over to his couch where he sat down before pulling her onto his lap.

"We're going to figure this out... today." He said after a short moment of just holding her.

"Sam I'm just going to tell him I'm pregnant and it's yours. He can't force me to get..." She stopped thinking about how her father would find a way to do just that.

"We need to get it confirmed first okay? We can set up an appointment out of town so he doesn't know." Sam said, ignoring the anger growing at the thought of her father trying to make her get rid of their baby.

"I'm not free until Wednesday... the day before-"

"Then we'll go now. We have to make sure so you can have all the things you need to take care of our baby."

"Our baby..." She said, smiling down at him before kissing him gently.

"How much time do you have?"

"We're supposed to be having dinner but I can get it canceled by saying I'm sick... just as long as I'm home before they notice." She said just as her phone began to ring, she looked down and saw it was her mother and answered.

"Get out of there now." Yvonne said before hanging up.

"I gotta go!" Mercedes said, jumping out of his lap. "I'll call you okay? I love you so much." She added before rushing out of his house.

Sam was so used to it that he didn't even move. He just sat there waiting for the loud bang at his door and sure enough thirty minutes later there it was and he let out a sigh.

"It's open!" He shouted, not even bothering to get up. Nathan and Shane both burst through his door looking around only to be disappointed when they hadn't found what they were looking for yet again.

"Where is she?"

"I haven't spoken or seen your daughter in a long time. She stopped talking when she agreed to marry him." Sam lied looking at both men waiting for them to leave.

"As she should, she's my fiancé and she'll need to be kept in place." Shane said with a smirk trying to get a reaction out of Sam but frowned with all he got was a bored look.

"Good luck, can you please leave now, I have plans."

"You should come to the wedding, it's going to be the talk of the town and I'm sure seeing how in love she is will help you move on." Shane said, looking intensely at Sam only to receive a shrug.

"Maybe I will, Good night." Sam replied, getting up and walking to the door, opening it and waiting for them to leave. Shane walked out first shooting him a mean look and Sam just looked back at him blankly before Nathan came and stopped looking at him hard with dark eyes.

"You've lost, she will never be yours and I wish you could've heard her gushing over how beautiful her wedding dress is today… you will never get to be the man at the other end of the altar." Nathan said with a smirk and Sam forced himself not to say that he won because she was carrying their child so instead he returned the smirk and held her father's dark glare until he finally left.
