A Texas Town 2019-
Hey! I'm Preston. I'm your average American highschooler.
"Damn it, I'm late!"
Who is also very late for school.
Now I know this isn't a great first impression. Who is this 14 year old kid who is running late? Well I have a reason.
Last Night-
"Preston! Make sure you're not up all night playing games again. You'll be late for school again."
"Yeah, yeah. Don't worry Mom I won't."
Present-
Well I didn't say a good reason.
Now here I am sprinting down the street hoping I don't miss too much of first period. I actually like school, believe it or not. I'm some two bit slacker, or delinquent. I just lose track of time sometimes. But still I like learning, especially math and science. Now I know some of you hear that and roll your eyes, but I look at it like I'm learning how the universe works. If you think about it everywhere you look there is some mathematical or scientific problem playing out before your eyes. Everything has a formula, an equation. I find that just so fascinating. Shame I'm missing algebra right.
Anyways, that's enough about me and ramblings, I got a class to get to.
I continue my run to the school. Just as I round the corner I see something that catches my eye. A giant hole. Look I know a hole may not seem interesting to most, hell even I would be hard pressed to spare it a second glance, but this thing was huge and also had no visible bottom. I have walked this route a thousand times it feels like, and never once have I seen this hole. It wasn't here yesterday, and there is no way a person could have dug it that deep in just one night. So yeah, sue me for being confused as shit.
I walk up to it and look down into it, and it is completely dark. A little ominous looking if you ask me. I really take in the size, and I notice it is probably 7 feet in diameter. What's even weirder is that this hole is in the middle of the street, and no one else is inspecting it.
It's already past 9 so I know someone had to have driven down this street and yet not a car or person in sight. Officially weirded out by this whole situation *Pun Intended* I back away from the edge so as not to fall into the seemingly bottomless pit in front of me.
Though God had a different plan for me. And the ground beneath me gave way and sent me plummeting into said pit.
"Oh SSSHHHHIIIIIITTTTTTTTT!"
The hole instantly closes never to be reopened and for no one to ever know what happened to me.
Soon the light from the sun fades as I reach faster, and faster speeds. The wind rushed past me violently. My mind is racing trying so desperately to find a solution in which I can live. Then the dark walls surrounding soon began to glow into a dazzling array of lights and color, and the noise sounded like a hundred freight trains surrounding me. I shut my eyes in hopes to block out the sensory overload of the lights. I scream but my voice overpowered by the ensuing chaos around me.
Then suddenly it got quiet, and slowly I opened my eyes to see the sky.
'The sky?'
I just fell into the Earth, but there's the sky, the clouds, and the sun. I looked down to see some city I didn't recognize.
"What the fuck?"
Yeah I'm lost but my confusion is immediately overshadowed by my realization.
I'm still falling.
"AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Musutafu, Japan-
"DETROIT SMASH!"
All Might threw his punch towards the vile sludge villain instantly decimating him into tiny chunks. Deciding to check on the two teens he just saved he turns to them.
"Are you both-/ AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!/- What the hell!"
All Might looked up to see someone falling at tremendous speeds, with a sheer look of terror on their face.
"Shit! I have to act fast!"
Wasting no All might jumps up to catch the falling Juvenile.
'So this is how I die. Honestly not what I expected. Just goes to show life's unpredictability.'
Just when I say my prayers and wait. I feel myself hit something, not hard like the ground, no like someone caught/ But that's ridiculous who could catch me up he-
I then look up to see a literal giant with a big grin and sunken black.
I proceed to go bug eyed and pass the fuck out. But before I do, I do hear the man ask if I'm alright.
5 Hours Later-
"Ugh, where am I?"
I say to really no one. I sit up and look around and see that I'm in the hospital.
'Ok maybe I'm not crazy and just hit my head, and had a batshit dream'
I then look over to the door to see a man real FUCKING cat ears and proceed to ask me how I'm feeling.
'No I'm crazy.'
"Young man, did you hear me?"
"Yeah I heard ya. Um it's just you have ears on your head. You know that right?"
The man looked mildly offended but answered nonetheless.
"Yes I'm well aware it's my quirk."
I slowly blink processing that.
"Your what?"
"My wha- What do you mean? You know quirk."
"What the fuck are you talking about man."
"Look, I just need some basic information for your doctor. Alright?"
I just nodded not knowing what else to do in this situation.
"Ok, Name?"
"Preston White"
"Foreigner I see"
'What, Foreigner?'
"Age, and place of residency?"
"Um, 14 and I live in Sherman Texas."
"And why are you here in Japan?"
"Wait I'm in Japan, how the HELL! Did I get here? I was just in Texas!"
Ok now it's time to freak out. Playback time, I fall into a giant ass hole, said hole leads to me falling out of the sky for some reason, get caught by a giant and now I'm being questioned by a cat guy nurse in a Japanese hospital.
Wait how the fuck am I speaking Japnese!
"None of this makes sense!"
The nurse now a little startled by my outburst says he's gonna go fetch my doctor. I sit there for a couple minutes and then the door slides open revealing a normal dude.
"Hi, I'm doctor Yuji."
"Um, H-hi sir."
He seems normal enough but who can tell anymore.
"You seem to be in a lively mood if my ears were correct."
"Um yeah sorry I was just given some kinda big news."
"It's no worries. I understand waking up in a foreign country can be concerning. Though I was hoping you could tell me how you got here?"
"Sir, I don't even really know myself and if I told you what I did know you wouldn't believe."
"Don't worry I have somebody who can help with that. Tsukauchi!"
In walked a man in a brown trench coat and black hair, who also looked relatively normal.
"Hello, I'm Detective Tsukauchi, and I'm here to help sort out what led to you being here."
"Yeah how's? I don't mean to sound rude but you weren't there."
"With my quirk. With it I can discern if what being said to me is a truth or lie. I'm kinda like a human lie detector."
I barked a laugh.
"Ha ha, very funny. Super powers aren't real. I would expect more professionalism from a cop."
"Um what do you mean quirks are owned by 80 percent of the population."
The doctor spoke up again mentioning those quirks again.
"That's another thing. What are these quirks you keep mentioning? I have no idea what ya'll are talking about."
"Young pretending you don't know what qu-"
"He's not lying. He doesn't know"
"What do you mean he has to be pretending, right?"
"He's not, my quirk is never wrong. Ok Listen kid a quirk is a special ability humans have evolved to have over the last few centuries. 80 percent of humans now possess one. Mine is lie detector."
"And mine is X-ray vision."
"This is crazy. Humans don't have powers. I think I would be in the know on that. Ok y'all are wanting to push it fine. Tell me if I'm telling the truth or not."
"I was running late to school this morning."
"True."
Lucky guess, I thought.
"I have 2 sisters and one brother."
"True."
"When I was 11 I had a bike accident that left me with a scar"
"True"
OK I'm starting to sweat a little because if what I'm thinking is true, then I'm royally fucked.
"Uh um my Mom died."
"False"
"My Grandfather died."
"True"
"Ok, OK. I believe you."
"Good, will you now tell me how you ended up here?"
I sigh if this really is true, and it's kinda hard to say it's not, then that hole was more than a hole. Some kind of wormhole or time vortex or something. But I should probably tell him because he is a police officer and he'll know I'm telling the truth.
"OK fine, but for warning this'll be hard to take in."
A world shattering explanation later-
"Oh my God, wormholes, time travel? KId what the hell."
"Hey I didn't ask for this. I'm telling you that hole was gunning for me. Look I know this is hard to believe but it's true."
"Still if you're not certain, then do like a bio scan on me or something. If I am in the future then and I'm pretty this what this is then my biology should be different from y'alls."
"Doctor can you?"
"Yes, just give me a moment."
He leaves, and after a few minutes he returns with a tablet of some kind.
"Hold still while it scans"
"Cool, future tech."
I see the police smirk at that.
"Scan Complete"
It's even got a robot voice that's cool.
"Ok, let's see here. Holy-"
He's silent for a moment, clearly taking it in.
"Detective, I got our proof. These readings detail a human pre quirk evolution. Like his bone structure, his bone density is only a quarter of that of current humans, he's got two joints in his pinky toe, his skiing is much less thick than our own, and his cranium is about a quarter bigger."
"Haha at least I got a bigger brain."
"Detective, this means that this boy cannot have come from parents of this era. He has to have been born before quirks."
"Young man, when did you say you were born?"
"2003. What year is it?"
I'm now very nervous. The future can I go back? Will I never see my family again? What will I do!?
"The year is currently 2378. That would make you 375 years old."
Oh there's panic. I was wondering when you'd return. I'm beginning to hyperventilate, I'm a person out of time lost with no identity, no family, nothing. What should I do? I feel helpless, lost, trapped, scared.
Tsukauchi clearly sees the distress on my face.
"Kid! Calm down."
I look at him.
"I get you're scared, and confused, and feeling totally alone. But don't worry I'm gonna make sure you are taken care of."
"But I'm stuck here! My family, my friends, my whole life gone! On top of that I'm gonna go into some childcare system, and have to deal with people who can very easily maim or kill me if they're not careful, because how much weaker I am!"
"Kid, I know I'm not much of a comfort right now, but I'm gonna help you in any way I can."
"I-I'm sorry. I know you're trying to help. I'm just scared."
"I know and I would be to. But you're not alone now."
"Thank you officer."
"Kid, just call Tsukauchi."
"O-ok"
"I gotta go make some calls and start figuring out this mess kid. I let you rest and I'll see you tomorrow."
"Bye Tsukauchi, and thanks"
"No problem kid."
With that he left with the doctor getting ready to leave as well.
"Doctor, before you leave, was my backpack with me when I arrived?"
"Oh yes it's in this closet here. Would you like me to bring it to you."
I nod.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. Now please try and rest."
With that he left. I grab my bag and look through it to find my phone. I pull it out and open it up to the photo app.
'Mom, Dad, Sarah, Gina, Clinton. I hope y'all were ok when I disappeared. Sorry I did, but guess God had plans for me. I hope you all lived good lives, and I'll try and live mine.'
I put down my phone starting to tear up. The more I sit the more I wanna cry and the dam is bursting. So I let it.
After what felt like an hour of sobbing I get a hold of myself. I put my phone away and pulled something else out.
' Well what is it that Dad always said? "When you don't know the answers read the Bible" *sigh* I miss you Dad.'
I don't know what this world holds in store for me, but I know to get through I need to put my faith in God. He will provide and I'm sure I am here for a purpose. Just what that is I don't really know, but I'm sure it is a good reason.
