(AUTHOR'S NOTE: March 3, 2022 update - this chapter and the following chapter are only considered trailers and are not fully canon.)
Hey guys. I'm back with a special first look at the fic. Now most of the dialog has been cut, leaving mostly only the Duel portion. This is when Kurumu comes into the story, which is not long after Moka does. This chapter is merely to help you understand how the fic will go, and how the monsters of the RV universe will factor in the Yu-Gi-Oh one. I'd rather save the story element as a surprise, but lets take a look at what the hell is going on in this corner of the RV/Yu-Gi-Oh universe. Enjoy!
Oh, and I usually don't do this, but this is how certain lines are spoke in case anyone gets confused with dialog:
"This" - is normal talking, back and forth to whomever is present.
(This) - is actions or events during dialog.
*This* - is sounds during dialog.
*This* - is someone is speaking to themselves or in their thoughts. This includes Yami/Atem and Ura Moka. The only difference is, depending on the context, their other halves can also hear them.
Joey LP: 4000
Ty LP: 4000
Both players draw their starting Hands.
Joey: Alright, tough guy. I'm going first! (Takes his first Draw) I Summon Alligator's Sword in Attack Mode!
One of Joey's standard monsters', Alligator's Sword, takes to the field once the card holographic image was summoned. The reptilian warrior is released to the field.
Alligator's Sword - Attribute: EARTH, Type: Beast, Level: 4, ATK: 1500, DEF: 1200
(AN: A monster's current Battle Position will be in BOLD print, unless they are Set.)
Joey: Den I'll put deez two face-down fer later. (He sets 2 cards before ending his turn)
Ty: (Is unimpressed) Wow... that's your opening move? Expected more from the guy who beat my sister. (Draws a card) I Summon Octiclops.
Octiclops: (Gives a roar akin to most fiend-types once he's released from his card) Roar!
Octiclops - Attribute: DARK, Type: Fiend, Level: 4, ATK: 1800, DEF: 1700
Ty: Yo, Octi. Shatter that gator's skull with your horn, will ya? (His monster roars in response to the command before executing the order, running as fast as it can to destroy the opposing monster)
Joey: Shattering skulls? How's about we roll one instead? Go, Skull Dice! (Reveals one of his face-down cards, which happens to be Skull Dice)
Skull Dice: Ha-ha-ha! (Drops the dice block its holding. After rolling a few times, it lands on a 6, weakening Octiclops severely)
Joey: Too bad. Looks like yer monsta' loses a huge sum of ATK points.
Octiclops - Attribute: DARK, Type: Fiend, Level: 4, ATK: 1800 - 300, DEF: 1700
Unable to stop, Octiclops felt its power weaken as it continued to rush forward. Once it got into range of Alligator's Sword, the Beast-Type swung its mighty blade, cutting the orges horn completely off! The Fiend-Type roared, grabbing its head with both hands in pain. Alligator's Sword counterattacked once again, slicing across the DARK monster's chest, destroying it as it roared in pain some more before being sent to the Graveyard.
Joey LP: 4000
Ty LP: 4000 - 2800
Joey: How's that, pal? Now yer Life Points are wide open.
Ty: (Still unimpressed) Humph. This cards all I'll need. (Sets one card face-down in his Spell/Trap Zone)
Joey: (Draws a card) Now I Summon Little-Winguard! And nooooooow... Alligator's Sword and Little-Winguard, attack!
Little-Winguard - Attribute: WIND, Type: Warrior, Level: 4, ATK: 1400, DEF: 1800
Both Joey's monsters' go to attack Ty's LP directly, but the moment they get close...
DONG! DONG! DONG! DONG! DONG!
A sudden loud dinging sound erupts from Ty's side of the field, with rings of sound waves emitting that forced both monster and human (aside from Ty himself) to moan and cover their ears from the loud unexpected sound.
Tristan: I thought school was out for another 3 weeks!
Téa: Where is that even coming from?
The sound slowly but surely reduced in volume before stopping.
Ty: That would be a handy monster known as Battle Fader. (Sure enough, somehow a monster that looked like a bell from a Grandfather Clock was on the field in front of him, surprising everyone else) Think of it as an upgrade to Kuriboh. When I'm attacked, this DARK monster automatically Summons itself to the field, and stops your attack as soon as the bell tolls. And to top it off, it skips over the Battle Phase completely.
Battle Fader - Attribute: DARK, Type: Fiend, Level: 1, ATK: 0, DEF: 0
Joey: (Is a little annoyed his attack didn't connect, but doesn't let it bother him too badly) Eh, whatever shorty. I'll just switch Winguard to Defense Mode an' end my turn. (Puts Little-Winguard in Defense Position via its Effect.)
Ty: (Draws a card, looks at it, then activates it) ... I think I'll activate the Magic Card, Allure of Darkness. This card lets me draw 2 more cards, but then I have to remove 1 DARK monster from the game in order to keep my Hand. (He goes to put one monster into his pocket after drawing his new cards, as there is no 'removed from play' slot; but then stops and places it back in his Hand) Thankfully, this triggers Guard Ghosts Special Ability, returning it to my Hand automatically. And I think I'll Summon it right now.
Ty then Summoned the Guard Ghost, a monster that none of the group had seen before. It looked like some kind of troll or ogre with blue skin and long blonde hair, with a matching beard. It also carried a large club with spikes on it.
Ghost Guard - Attribute: DARK, Type: Zombie, Level: 4, ATK: 1800, DEF: 100
Ty: So, Wheeler; can your Lizard's Sword block this?
With the indirect order to attack, Guard Ghost rushes forward after Alligator's Sword with a troll/ogre-like battle cry. After approaching the gator, while the reptile did take an offense stance to protect itself, Guard Ghost brought its club down hard on the weaker monster, and ultimately destroyed it.
Ty: For all the cards lore about "da speed a sound", huh?
Joey LP: 4000 - 3700
Ty LP: 2800
Moka: *Now Joey lost some points.*
Yugi: *It's ok. He's still in the lead by a large margin.*
Joey: (Is a little sour, but draws his next card. He feels better with the monster he just drew, smiling upon seeing what it was) Uh oh… yer in trouble now, kid. I sacrifice my Little-Winguard… in order ta Summon: Giltia the D. Knight!
With Little-Winguard going to the Graveyard, Giltia the D. Knight arrives to take its place.
Joey: I also play da Magic Card, Monster Reborn to bring back my Alligator's Sword! (Once Joey played Monster Reborn, Alligator's Sword came out of said Spell, having been revived from the Graveyard)
Giltia the D. Knight - Attribute: LIGHT, Type: Warrior, Level: 6, ATK: 1850, DEF: 1500
Alligator's Sword - Attribute: EARTH, Type: Beast, Level: 4, ATK: 1500, DEF: 1200
Joey: Light that troll up, Giltia! Soul Spear! As fer Alligator's Sword, ring dat Fader's bell!
Both of Joey's monsters' go on the offensive. First, Giltia attacks and destroys Guard Ghost with one blast, then Alligator's Sword sliced Battle Fader in half with one slash.
Joey LP: 3700
Ty LP: 2800 - 2750
Ty: (Still not impressed by Joey's moves at all, and draws) You feel pretty good about yourself, don't you? (Upon seeing the next card in his Hand, he does smile) But lets see how you deal with my sister's waifu… the Harpie Lady!
The group was surprised to hear that card name but sure enough, Mai's ionic monster was Summoned to the field, appearing in a flash of swirling feathers with its wings closed on itself, then she opened them to reveal herself in all her glory.
Harpie Lady: SCREEEEEEECH!
Harpie Lady - Attribute: WIND, Type: Winged Beast, Level: 4, ATK: 1300, DEF: 1400
Ty then places a card face-down in his Spell/Trap Zone before ending his turn in silence as Joey speaks again.
Joey: Well… yer definitely her brother. (Draws a card) I now Summon, Rocket Warrior!
Summoned from its card, Rocket Warrior flies around a bit while in Rocket Mode/Invincible Mode before stopping and opening itself up.
Rocket Warrior - Attribute: LIGHT, Type: Warrior, Level: 4, ATK: 1500, DEF: 1300
Joey: (Looks at Harpie Lady and immediately sees a transparent Mai over it, her happy laugh echoing in his mind, causing him to hesitate for a few seconds) *Hate to do dis to ya card, Mai. But I gotta win dis Duel*... Alright! Giltia, attack Harpie Lady!
Giltia charges energy into his spear, but before he could fire...
Ty: You just triggered, Mirror Wall! (Reveals the powerful Trap Card)
Joey: (Has humorously wide eyes and gritted teeth) NRGH!
The rest of the gang is also surprised to see Ty unleash such a powerful card, knowing exactly what it does, but it was too late. Once the Mirror Wall was activated, crystal-like glass grew in front of Harpie Lady from the ground before hardening into an impenetrable barrier. That happened quickly, and at the exact same time Gilita finally launched its attack, hitting the wall in question. The attack rebounded back to its owner, the magical knight being hit by its own power right in its chest. It slumped to the ground, grunting, its power weakening as Mirror Wall took effect.
Ty: Not exactly the knight he used to be, eh?
Giltia the D. Knight - Attribute: LIGHT, Type: Warrior, Level: 6, ATK: 1850 - 925, DEF: 1500
If that wasn't bad enough, the battle between those 2 monsters was also still in effect. Harpie Lady, screeching as she flew over the protection of Mirror Wall, swooped down and slashed at the Dark Knight with her claws. With one swipe, Giltia moaned loudly in pain before being destroyed. Joey growled lowly as his Life Points took a decent hit, while Ty had a grin on his face.
Joey LP: 3700 - 2775
Ty LP: 2750
Ura Moka: *He really is an idiot, attacking a Harpie blindly like that. (Her transparent form glances at Yami, whom is also transparent next to Yugi) This is why I said you should have gone in instead.*
Yami Yugi: (Glances back to Ura Moka) *He'll pull through, just wat-…*
Ura Moka: (Cuts Yami off rather rudely, answering with heavy dry sarcasm) *Because the Heart of a Childs Card Game is on his side?… Yeah. That makes sense.*
Yami couldn't help but scowl and growl at Ura Moka's response. She has been this way since the moment she arrived unlike her other half, whom was more friendlier. Of course, she wasn't exactly wrong with her statement; however blunt it was. Both Yugi and Outer Moka just sweatdropped at their alter-egos argument, with embarrassed smiles.
Ura Moka: *Though I do have to admit, this brat uses a strange combination.*
This got the mentally-connected groups attention. She was right again.
Yami Yugi: *That is a good point. (His answer gets both Outer Moka and Yugi to look at him) First Ty uses DARK themed cards, now he switches to WIND ones.*
Ura Moka: *I might not be well versed in this game, but even we monsters' know that WIND and DARK are completely unrelated.*
Yami Yugi: *Not to mention differing battle styles, as well as strategies.*
It appeared the tougher halves of the King of Games and Vampire Princess finally agreed on something, which in a way both the softer sides were thankful for.
Yugi: *Yeah… that doesn't make any sense!*
As a player of the game himself, Yugi agreed 100% on the point just made. Of course, mixing Attributes wasn't entirely unheard of. LIGHT and DARK monsters, even an unlikely combo of WATER and FIRE, were highly effective combinations… but WIND and DARK?… Why would someone mix those two utterly different styles together? It seemed to make playing the game that much harder.
Joey: (Although annoyed, he continues his turn by Setting a card) I end my turn! *Alright… so he's got a powerful Trap Card, big deal. As long as I don't attack, its affect won't activate, right? I jus gotta bide my time and figure out a way around it.*
Ty: Looks like its my move. (Draws his next card) Ya know, Mirror Wall's a powerful card, but its new ruling forces me to pay 2000 Life Points if I wanna keep it on the field.
Some of the group blinked, not realizing that bit of information. Of course, cards and rulings were updated all the time, hence the reason sometimes the same card used at one point will have a different effect later on. But to hear Mirror Wall had gotten one as well was surprising. Then again, it seemed way too powerful on its own, so it didn't seem out of the realm of possibility either.
Ty: (Remains silent for a few seconds, keeping his grin) … I'm not.
SHATTER!
The Mirror Wall Trap Card expired due to not receiving the proper payment. As a result, the crystal barrier also began to crack before breaking down into tiny pieces, leaving Ty's Harpie Lady unprotected and vulnerable. It seemed like a stupid move, as Ty had enough LP for at least one more turn.
Joey: (Is confused) Wait… why would ya do that? Ya had plenty'a Life Points.
Ty: I'm getting rid of it because I don't need it. Me and Mai might use similar cards, but our styles are quite different. Speaking of which (holds up a card in front of him), what's a sister with her brothers support? Meet Harpie's Brother!
Ty plays a monster none of them recognized, but it did have a similar appearance to Harpie Lady. It flew out of the card at almost supersonic speed, rivaling the loops Rocket Warrior did earlier before it landed and posed just like its card art. This monster had wings like Harpie Lady, but they were not attached to his arms. Instead, they were on his back, like an angel, but red in color. He also appeared to be wearing some kind of red mask like a superhero. The shirt he wore was cut around his shoulders, showing off impressive muscles, and he also had a blade-like weapon on his right arm.
Ty: Not a bad-looking monster, right? He's also known as Sky Scout, and thanks to higher ATK power; he can cut deeper than a Harpie Lady can.
Harpie's Brother/Sky Scout - Attribute: WIND, Type: Winged Beast, Level: 4, ATK: 1800, DEF: 600
Ty: Of course, the families not quite complete just yet. There's 3 more (holds up another card, its back facing Joey)… "elegant" members of the squad waiting in the wings.
Joey and the other high schoolers now got concerned, fearing what Ty was implying.
Joey: Wait… you don't mean…
Ty: Bingo. Presenting the Magic Card (reveals the card by flipping it around): Elegant Egotist!
Upon activation of his Spell Card, Ty's deck glows. After a few seconds; three lights in the colors of red, blue and orange fly out of his deck. They then form into humanoid shapes as they take to the field. It was shown to be 3 Harpie Ladies at once, better known as Harpie Lady Sisters.
Harpie Lady Sister (Blue): SCREECH!
Harpie Lady Sister (Orange): SCREECH!
Harpie Lady Sister (Red): SCREEEEEEECH!
Harpie Lady Sisters - Attribute: WIND, Type: Winged Beast, Level: 6, ATK: 1950, DEF: 2100
Ty: Finally, what's a girl without her accessories? (Plays his face-down card, which is also a Spell) I'm giving my lone Harpie Lady the power of Cyber Shield!
Harpie Lady: (The magic of Cyber Shield forms around her before giving her a suit of armor, increasing her ATK strength) SCREEEEEEECH!
Harpie Lady - Attribute: WIND, Type: Winged Beast, Level: 4, ATK: 1300 - 1800, DEF: 1400
Ty: Harpie Lady! Blow his Alligator back to the swamp in the Graveyard!
Harpie Lady: SCREEEEEEECH! (Folds her arms over her body, then spreads them out, creating a fierce gust wind)
Alligator's Sword stood its ground, bracing and trying to stand tall against the wind threatening to blow him over. After grunting for a few seconds, and his feet dragging along the ground as he was blown backward slightly; he was unfortunately unable to withstand the Harpie's higher ATK power and lost his balance, getting knocked back off his feet in the process and shattered into pieces, being destroyed by game mechanics.
Ty: Now Sky Scout; attack his Rocket Warrior!
Harpie's Brother/Sky Scout spread his wings and took off to attack Rocket Warrior. In response, Rocker Warrior closed up and rocketed away, but the male Harpie continued after him. Flying around, Rocket Warrior tried to shake the attacker off, but it was slowly gaining on machine-Warrior. Getting above, Sky Scout lifted its right arm, and slashed his bladed appendage into Rocket Warrior's back, damaging it. As a result, Rocket Warrior started losing control and fell out of the sky, smoke coming out where it was struck. Joey's monster crash landed back to the field with a small explosion, going to the Graveyard soon after.
Joey: (Growls from both losing his monsters and the fact he was wide open for an obvious incoming direct attack) Grrrrrr…
Ty: But it'd be rude to not let my trio have some fun too, so my Harpie Ladies will attack your Life Points, directly!
Harpie Lady Sisters (3x): SCREEEEEEECH!
Joey braces himself for the inevitable blow as all 3 Harpie Sisters attacked him at the same time. 2 (Blue and Orange) kicked his chest with their clawed feet, and the final one (Red) slashed with a clawed hand near the same location. He feels blowback and pain as the attack took effect.
Joey: Nrgh… AAAAAAAARGH!
Once the attack was complete, the Sisters returned to their side of the field as Joey's LP adjusted from taking a huge hit. Although he slumped over a bit, he slowly recovers.
Joey LP: 2775 - 225
Ty LP: 2750
Ty: I think that's enough damage for one turn, so I'll just play one final card, Card of Sanctity, letting us draw 6 new ones (draws his new hand, and notices Joey still feeling the effects of the last attack)... heh. Whenever your good and ready.
Ura Moka: *So; how's that Heart coming along?* (Her question was never answered, though Yami did look annoyed at her question)
Tristan: Hang in there, man!
Téa: (Although concerned, she gives encouragement) Keep going! You can still win this!
Ura Moka: *There's no way. He has barely 200 Points left, along with no monsters to protect him. He might as well do that Surrender thing and save whatever pride he has left.*
Yami Yugi: (Was scowling at Ura Moka's "encouragement", but even he couldn't deny this looked bad. Despite this, he still refused to believe the Duel was over) *Joey CAN win… I KNOW he will.*
Ura Moka: *This coming from the king who doesn't even know himself…* (gets growled at by Yami, but ignores it)
Ty: How does it feel? You've got no one to blame but yourself, Wheeler! Your the one who chased my sister away! (Starts tearing up a bit, but shakes most of it off) She was the only family I had left… all we had was each other… (recovers, becoming angry, yet still emotional) If it wasn't for you, she'd still be here! Here with me!
Joey: Ugh… I already told ya kid (slowly draws his new cards due to Card of Sanctity's effect at once from his deck, but without looking at them yet)… ya got it all wrong.
Ty: (Joey's response and tone gets his attention) Huh?
Joey: Mai didn't leave… because of me… (stands at his full height) she left cuz of herself.
Ty: (Is shocked at Joey's answer) Wh-… what?
Joey: Don't get me wrong, pal; Mai's a tough girl… (has flashbacks while talking, the first one was his debut battle with her in Duelist Kingdom) probably da toughest girl I've ever met (another flashback was when they were trapped in a certain virtual world and Mai was the champion of a tournament)… but she's made allot'a bad choices… (a third flashback showed her when she appeared to be working for Dartz, then during that Duel she kept saying she 'won't go back there') she was lost, scared; and sometimes in pain. She was in a really dark place (the final flashback was her and his Duel after he defeated Valon, when she ordered the final attack ruthlessly, but then stopped herself before running to his side as the Orichalcos was claiming him as a price for 'losing')… that's why she left. She had ta go find herself. An I know, wherever she is, she's fighting hard to do just dat. To return ta us… return ta you…
Ty: (Shows more emotion upon hearing such praise for his sister, but then shakes it off, in denial of everything Joey said) Grrrrrrrrr… I've had enough of your lies! Stop talking like you know her!
Joey: But I do, kid. I knew her all too well.
Ty: (Though still angry, you can hear the sadness in his cracking voice) NO! YOUR LYING! Mai was the strongest Duelist in the world, wining tournament after tournament until you came along! She wasn't afraid of anyone or anything!
Joey: Your wrong… she was afraid… of what she became. (Sees Ty react again to his words, looking shocked at what is being told, but continues) She couldn't take it, so she had to cut loose and ride off. Think about it. Mai's a strong person. She doesn't want anyone ta see her like dat… least of all; you. Her little brotha…
Ty: (Joey's words clearly have some effect on him, but he appears to be as stubborn as Mai can be because he looks away with gritted teeth, refusing to meet his opponent's gaze) Grrrrrr… what do you know? You don't know me! You'll never understand.
Joey: Believe it or not… I do… Yer family, and family always sticks togeth'a. They do anything for each other (has a flashback of Serenity when she was in the middle of her eye operation, then how happy she was when she could finally see again thanks to the prize money from Duelist Kingdom). I really get where ya comin' from, buddy. Brothers like us would do anything for out sisters'… older or younger. Siblings like dat share a special bon-…
Ty: I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT! (Realizes he blurted out, and calms himself down)
Moka, and even Ura to a degree, couldn't help but feel sorry for the younger of the two Duelists'. He reminded them a bit of their human friend, with how emotional he can be at times, especially when a friend was involved.
Ty: … Ahem. Once I win this Duel, I can move on with my life, so just take your turn… not that it'll be much longer.
Even though Joey almost got through to Ty, the shorter Duelist also seemed to inherit Mai's pride. It did take Mai some time to warm up to the group before calling them 'friends', so the same must apply to him too.
Joey: Alright, kid; but jus so ya know… I thrive unda pressure. (Looks down as his deck before drawing) *Alright Heart of da Cards… could use a little help here.* (Places fingers on top of his deck) Here goes… (draws his next card with gusto) LOOK OUT! (Looks at the card he just drew, and slightly widens his eyes) *Da Flame Swordsman… (happens to see a certain Spell Card that wasn't in his hand before, as he must have drawn it due to Card of Sanctity) and a Legendary Sword card, dis is perfect! If I use deez cards togetha, I can take out any one of doze Harpies!… Aw, but I need a monsta' ta sacrifice in order to Summon 'em. I do got a face-down card dat could help… guess I'll have ta play dis and hope for the best.* (Sets a card) I'll lay one card face-down, an den I'll Summon my Grappler of Landstar!
One of the weakest Warrior-Types in the game takes to the field, armed with a small dagger.
Grappler of Landstar - Attribute: EARTH, Type: Warrior, Level: 3, ATK: 1000, DEF: 500
Moka: *Aw! Its so cute!*
Bakura: That's odd. Why would Joey place that monster in Attack Mode?
Tristan: I don't know. Maybe he's getting desperate out there.
Ura Moka: (Is rendered speechless at Joey's choice of monster, then looks toward Yami) *… Please tell me he's screwing around… (she gets no answer) You've got to be kidding! The only monsters weaker than Landstars' are Slimes and Madslugs! What is this idiot thinking?!*
Again, she wasn't wrong. Even if Joey put that monster in the opposite Position, that was still hardly enough to protect him from beasts as powerful as Harpies'.
Moka: *Oh… so he's giving up?*
Yugi: I don't think so, guys. (His response gets attention from not just his transparent friends, but the physical ones too) Joey's got a plan… I can feel it.
Ty: (Unlike Ura Moka, he doesn't seem care that Joey used such a weak monster. He then draws his next card) Well, I'd say its been fun, Joey… but that would be a lie. Harpie's Brother! Attack that wannabe superhero and end this Duel!
Harpie's Brother, who was standing with folded arms, unfolded them and took flight before flying towards the Warrior-Type on the opposing field. He also draws his bladed arm, ready to use it as he closed in for the kill…
Joey: (Grins) Like a bird takin' da worm bait. I activate (reveals his face-down Trap Card), Magical Arm Shield!
Ty: No! Not that!
It was too late. Upon activation, Grappler of Landstar's unarmed hand gained Magical Arm Shield.
Joey: When one of my monsters is attacked, dis card lets me target one of your monsters', and change the attack target to it instead.
Joey's Grappler activates the Magical Arm Shield. It springs forward past Sky Scout, and grabs the single Harpie Lady. She looks in surprise at what's going on, then screeches and struggles to free herself once she gets caught by the Trap, but the machines grip was too tight. It brings her past the flying male bird quickly, and in front of the small Warrior like a humanoid shield. Comically, the speeding male Harpie tries to slow down, but was going too fast. The Harpie Lady struggled quicker and harder as the male version closed in, but both ultimately destroyed each other after crashing into each other and shattered into pieces via game mechanics, due to having equal ATK points at the time.
Ty: (Is stunned at what just happened. He then mutters,) … S… Sis… (sees a transparent image of Mai before it fades away along with the destroyed Harpies. This causes him to growl in anger) Grrrrrrrr! Harpie Lady Sisters! Slice that fair soldier to ribbons!
Harpie Lady Sisters (3x): SCREEEEEEECH! (Upon the attack being declared, they to fly at Grappler of Landstar)
Joey: Hey? Member what ya said about a girl and her accessories?
Ty: Huh?
Joey: Boys are kinda da same, so I took your advice. I now play (reveals a second Trap), Kunai with Chain!
Just like with Magical Arm Shield, Grappler of Landstar gained a new item, only this time it was his dagger being replaced. Spinning his new weapon like a lasso, he spun it above his head before letting it go at the incoming Sisters. The effect of Kunai with Chain takes affect, circling around the Harpies', surprising them, then tightened them together as they crashed into each other and fall to the ground. They give bird-like groans before trying to get free, but are completely immobilized by the Traps Effect.
Joey: Dis accessory stops yer monsta's attack by switching it ta Defense Mode. It also boosts my little buddies power by 500 more points.
Harpie Lady Sisters - Attribute: WIND, Type: Winged Beast, Level: 6, ATK: 1950, DEF: 2100
Grappler of Landstar - Attribute: EARTH, Type: Warrior, Level: 3, ATK: 1000 - 1500, DEF: 500
Ty: (Growls again, getting aggravated) GRRRRRR!... Fine! Go! (Sets a card and ends his turn)
Téa: Great job, Joey!
Tristan: Knew ya could to it, man. Never doubted ya for a second!
Both Moka twins were impressed at this, even though one wasn't willing to verbally admit it. It looked like Joey, just like Yugi and Yami, was a pretty strong Duelist; but in his own way.
Moka: *That was pretty cool. Joey turned the tables on Ty and got rid of 2 monsters in one move.*
Ura Moka: (Has her arms folded) *... ok. Using a weaker monster to bait Ty into attacking was a decent play... but his monster still isn't strong enough to take out a Harpie Lady, let alone three.*
Joey: (Draws his next card, but plays a different card from his hand) Now I play, da magic of Shield & Sword! Now all monsters currently on da field get their ATK and DEF points swapped with the other.
As Shield & Sword takes affect, the values if both Grappler of Landstar and Harpie Lady Sisters appear, then they flip to show their point totals have swapped. However, because Landstar was equipped with Kunai with Chain, his own ATK decreased as a result of the new values.
Harpie Lady Sisters - Attribute: WIND, Type: Winged Beast, Level: 6, ATK: 2100, DEF: 1950
Grappler of Landstar - Attribute: EARTH, Type: Warrior, Level: 3, ATK: 1000, DEF: 1000
Bakura: Hold on... Doesn't Joey realize playing that also reduced his own monsters strength?
Tristan: I don't know. He's used that card so many times, can't imagine how he'd screw up with it.
Ura Moka: (Is dumbfounded by Joey's next move. If she gained any respect for Joey, it was gone. She rolls her eyes and looks away) *... I rest my case.*
Moka: (Leans down toward Yugi, as he is slightly shorter than her. Joey's move didn't make sense to her or her other half, as wasn't the point of Duel Monsters to make your monsters stronger than your opponents?) *Yugi? Why would Joey weaken his own monster? Isn't strengthening them how your supposed to win?*
Yugi: *Not necessarily. Just watch. The Heart of the Cards won't let him down.*
Ura Moka: *Even if you both were the first to Summon Exodia, I'll believe that when there's actual substance to that claim.*
Joey: Now I sacrifice my Grappler of Landstar... in order ta turn up da heat, with Flame Swordsman!
Both Grappler of Landstar and the Kunai Trap go to the Graveyard. Then, in a burst of flames; one of Joey's favorite monsters erupted to the field, swinging his huge sword to show off his strength. As he did, streams of flames left his sword before he struck a pose, said sword also glowing with heat and power to match.
Flame Swordsman - Attribute: FIRE, Type: Warrior, Level: 5, ATK: 1800, DEF: 1600
Yami Yugi: (Looks over to Ura Moka with a sly grin) *How's that for substance?*
Ura Moka: (Retains her normal expression, but obviously annoyed at the Nameless Pharaoh's smart response) *Big deal. Sure he's got a stronger monster, but not strong enough to fry any of those pigeons.*
Ty: So you used Kunai with Chain on a weaker monster, only to Summon a stronger one and waste it? You should've saved it for your swordsman. He really could've used it.
Ty wasn't wrong. While Flame Swordsman was indeed a strong monster, he barely had enough power to destroy Harpie Lady Sisters even if Shield & Sword wasn't used prior. It was seriously looking like Joey miscalculated in his strategy.
Joey: Your right about one thing… he could use anotha pick-me-up.
Ty: Eh?
Joey: So how's about da Magic Card, Legendary Sword!
Flame Swordsman's orange blade morphed into a yellow one instead, only it was slightly less bulky than his original one, yet didn't seem to lack raw power.
Joey: Thanks to dis new blade, it'll boost my Flame Swordsman's ATK and DEF points by 300 apiece!
Flame Swordsman - Attribute: FIRE, Type: Warrior, Level: 5, ATK: 1800 - 2100, DEF: 1600 -1900
Upon seeing the move, NOW it was clear as to why Joey used Shield & Sword the way he did. Thanks to Joey's planning, Flame Swordsman was now strong enough to destroy Harpie Lady Sisters, as he never would have had enough strength to do so while they were in Defense Mode. Then again, his friends shouldn't be too surprised. This was Joey after all, using cards in unorthodox ways. Even if he didn't have access to really powerful cards, he knew how to use his own really well. Heck, he's able to keep Kaiba on his toes for a bit, and he did get his Red-Eyes back from Yugi. He also would have beaten Marik during the Battle City Finals if he hadn't passed out, anyone could have seen that.
Moka: *Oh, now I get it. Joey swapped their values BEFORE Summoning his fire knight on purpose!*
Yugi: *That's right. Ty's Harpie Ladies had a Defense strength equal to Flame Swordman's current ATK points, so if Joey activated Shield & Sword while Flame Swordsman was on the field, then he would have been weakened too. He waited until AFTER the card took effect to not only Summon him, but make him just strong enough to take them out with Legendary Sword.*
Yami Yugi continues to smirk in Ura Moka's direction, silently saying: "I told you so". She didn't give a verbal response, but even she couldn't deny the play Joey made was a stroke of genius. Of course, it would spare Ty's LP, but at least his strongest monster would be in the Graveyard.
Joey: (Sniffs the air a few times) Smell dat, buddy?… It smells like a barbecue; and ya Harpies are da main course! (Ty growls at his jab, but Joey continues his turn) Light'em up, Flame Swordsman! Flaming Sword of Battle!
With the attack declared, Flame Swordsman carried out the order. While his original blade was replaced, he was still able to set the Equip Spell one ablaze. Raising the sword and releasing a battle cry, Joey's iconic Warrior rushed up towards the trio of Harpies and slashed his mighty blade across them. Due to the effect of Shield & Sword, the Harpie Sisters were too weak to stand against the flames, let alone the attack itself; so all they could do was cry in pain as they were destroyed.
Ty is also beyond furious at this point, his face showing it all, but says nothing.
Joey: I'll put down two cards, an call it a turn. (Sets two cards on the field)
Ty: … I draw… (draws his next card, and smiles an evil-like grin upon seeing what it is.) *Heh… perfect! Just the card I was waiting for. With this, Joey Wheeler is gonna pay for forcing my sister away.*
Moka: (Suddenly reacts to something, her eyes widening the moment Ty drew his card) *Eep.*
Both Yugi and his ancient Egyptian counterpart notice Moka's reaction immediately, craning their necks to see her. They notice her expression, and her body was trembling.
Yugi: *Moka? What's wrong?*
She didn't answer. Both Yugi twins were stumped, not understanding why Moka was suddenly acting this way. Sure this form of her wasn't exactly willing to battle, as shown when she appeared in their deck completely by accident, but this reaction seemed far worse. She just continued to tremble. Surprisingly, even Ura Moka appeared to react, but to a lesser extent. She looked at Ty also with widened eyes for a brief moment before recovering, minus the body shaking.
Ura Moka: (Looks over to the stumped duo) *The card, you idiots.*
Both Yugis' looked back and, upon a closer inspection, noticed a dark aura around the card in question. It was the same aura that surrounded both Mokas' cards, albeit not as potent as Ura's, but was still there.
(AN: This will be established during the main story, but to give you guys context; Yugi and Yami/Atem are currently the only non-monsters who can see this aura, which is the monster girls' Yoki/Monster Energy.)
Yami Yugi: *Is that card what I think it is…?*
Yugi agreed with the Pharaoh. Moka told them that there was a mix up in the monster world, and some monsters in her school were transformed into cards just like she was; including her friends… then was that card…?
Ty: (Does not play the card he just drew, but instead places it in his hand and chooses a different one. He holds it out before placing it in the Duel Disk) I play the Magic Card, Monster Reborn. And I'm using it to bring back our favorite trio!
Once the card was played, Harpie Lady Sisters emerged from the card with a trio of screeches.
Harpie Lady Sisters - Attribute: WIND, Type: Winged Beast, Level: 6, ATK: 1950, DEF: 2100
Ty: Joey. I want you to see this… (holds up a card, but not the aura-filled one, and flips it around to show he was holding a second Cyber Shield Equip Spell)
The group reacts accordingly, seeing what Ty was implying he was gonna do.
Téa: (Gasps) Another Cyber Shield!
Bakura: If Ty plays that card, his Harpies' ATK points will exceed Joey's swordsman. And when they attack, he'll lose the Duel!
As Bakura spoke, a fantasy played of what he described. First; it showed Ty activating Cyber Shield, which equipped itself to Harpie Lady Sisters. Then, upon the Spell taking effect; their ATK points increased accordingly, becoming just powerful enough to overpower Flame Swordsman even with his own Equip Spell. Finally; the fantasy showed the trio attacking and destroying one of Joey's strongest Warrior-Types, and as he took the damage, he lost the Duel as his LP dropped to zero. Reality then returns to normal, with Joey gritting his teeth. If Ty does what Bakura said, he was finished.
Ty: But I'm not gonna do that.
Ty's response made everyone pause. He wasn't going to use Cyber Shield? He had to be toying with them, right? Joey then questions him to confirm this.
Joey: Y… Your not?
Ty: Cross my heart. Mainly cause, I have another plan in mind.
Joey: And what would that be?
Ty: This card. (Holds up the card he drew, the one with the aura) A card so powerful, its helped me win 7 tournaments in a row with ease. Some of them even Mai struggled with; even with her Harpies and Amazoness cards.
Now, the group was well aware of how strong a Duelist Mai was; able to force Yugi on the defensive once (granted, he was in a dark place at the time), and even stand up to Marik for an extended period of time. To hear she had struggled with some tournaments, especially with the combined strength of her Harpie/Amazoness combo, was stunning. This included the claim that the card Ty currently had in his hand was the key to his success where his sister failed.
Joey: (Is a little skeptical) Dat card?
Ty: Let me be clear… I know I play with a seemingly dumb strategy. DARK and WIND monsters' together? In what world does that make sense?
Ura Moka: *At least he's self-aware.*
Ty: But thanks to this card, it makes executing it so much easier. But even on her own, this cards power is unmatched. I bet not even all 3 of Kaiba's Blue-Eyes' could stand up to this!
Once again, the claim struck a cord in the group, not to mention with how confident Ty sounded upon saying it. Was it really true? Did he seriously have an all-powerful card, one that can even go head-to-head with the destructive force of Kaiba and his 3 Blue-Eyes White Dragons?
Joey: No way. Ya gotta be bluffing!
Ty: Trust me, I was surprised too. I never saw the card in my deck before, but I guess I never had the chance to use her. Drew her during a Duel just about a week ago, and no one I've Dueled has ever seen such a card before, making her a valuable asset to my deck ever since.
Now Yugi's group was getting concerned. A card that no ones seen before? One that randomly appeared in someone's deck?… Sounded awfully like more ancient magic stuff but more importantly, it was similar to what happened to Yugi and Yami just a few days ago when Moka first popped up. Less than a week ago also seemed to collaborate with Moka's story as well, the timeframe equaling her tale of being turned into a card.
The most damning piece of evidence, however… Ty called the card a "her". Several times.
Tristan: (Looks to everyone not involved in the Duel) Yo, guys? You don't think that card is…?
Téa: (Thinks back to what Yugi said about Moka's card, it having an aura yet none of them could see it. She then looks over to Yugi) Yugi? Is that card…?
Yugi kept a focused eye on Ty, but didn't get to answer Téa due to Ty continuing his turn. Regardless, they were about to find out…
Ty: I sacrifice my Harpie Lady Sisters…!
The moment he said that and removed the monster card from the Duel Disk, the Harpies' eyes' widened in a very similar way as Moka did. In addition to that, upon the Tribute being applied; the Harpies' screeched in pain, grabbing their heads in agony as their bodies began to glow. Now, monsters making noises wasn't uncommon. That's what the technology was programed to do… but that was mostly upon Summoning or attacking. When's the last time Tributing a monster caused the Tributes in question visible pain? The most noticeable time something like this occurred was when Guardian Eatos was possessed by the Orichalcos. The Harpie Lady Sisters then became lights, the same colors as when they were Summoned the first time, and they zoomed into the back of the card Ty was trying to Summon.
Ty: So I can play, THIS! (Slams the card into the Duel Disk) Kurumu Kurono - The Charming Succubus!
When Ty played his new monster, it had a similar effect on the Duel Disk when a powerful monster was Summoned. It wasn't the sparking an Egyptian God Card caused, but it did cause the Duel Disk to light up brighter than its normally supposed too. When the card was revealed, the group didn't get a chance to see or observe its card art because it lit up immediately. They watched in anticipation at what power was about to be unleashed from that card.
What came out was… unexpected, yet made the humans in the group look in awe.
The "monster" that appeared was like nothing they had seen before, but looked to be just a normal teen girl. However, she was wearing an almost identical uniform to Moka, with a few differences. For starters, she had the exact same skirt as Moka, but a different top. It appeared to be a yellow vest with a white shirt underneath, and a red bowtie on the collar, though it all still complemented the rest of the outfit nicely. Unlike either version of Moka, this girl had short blue hair with a ponytail tied in the back by a purple headband, letting the rest fall down naturally. Each side of the headband also had a gold star hanging where her ears would be (though they were covered by her hair), and she had deep purple eyes unlike Pink-haired Moka's soft green or the Silver-haired versions intimating blood-red ones. She also wore different socks and shoes from Moka, her socks being baggy and shoes being flat and dressy. She was also quite short, being only 5 five tall, maybe a few inches shorter than Moka herself.
Lastly, yet caught every boys attention (even Yami's and Yugi's) for a spilt second… was the difference in chest size. Despite her short stature, and being as drop-dead gorgeous as Moka was.… they bounced with every tiny movement the "monster" made. And they thought Ura's were big…
Regardless, if there was any doubt to the vampires story, its all gone now.
Moka: (Clasps her hands together in worry) Kurumu…
Ty: (Enjoys the fact everyone is rendered speechless at his new monster) What do ya think? Isn't she a beauty?
No one could deny that. Kurumu was indeed well-dressed for a monster, and she did look very pretty and cute. They had a feeling that, if there was a poll held; she'd probably give popular female monsters, even Dark Magician Girl, a run for their money. Moka had become quite popular herself even during her short time in their world.
Joey: (Does mentally agree due to him still staring in awe at Kurumu, but recovers) Eh, beauty or not, you should've just attacked me with ya Harpies. Cuz she just triggered my Trap Hole! (Reveals a card he just Set last turn, being Trap Hole) Sorry, kid; but yer schoolgirls going straight down my Hole, right to Detention!
Ty did not look the least bit concerned. In fact, he grinned evilly and chuckled to himself. With Trap Hole triggered, a small hole formed below Kurumu, and slowly began to open. She looked down, noticing what was going on. Just before the Trap Hole become large enough to send her down to the Graveyard…
WHOOSH!
Joey: (Is taken aback) HAAAAAAAAAA?!
The entire group was shocked by what just happened, keeping their eyes on Kurumu the whole time. The "schoolgirl" had just jumped inhumanly high into the air, avoiding the Trap Hole. She floated there for a few seconds, before shocking the group again…
FLAP!
One wing.
FLAP!
Two wings… purple bat-like wings… had sprouted from her back, allowing her to fly in the air… but that was just the beginning.
Next her ears, which were previously covered by her hair, poked out from both sides of her head one-by-one, being elf-like in appearance. Finally, and most shocking of all, was a purple tail poked out from underneath her skirt, clearly of demonic origin since it had a triangle-shaped tip like an arrow. The girl had transformed before their very eyes! So that's what Kurumu REALLY looked like, and with her true appearance revealed, her stats were as well.
Kurumu Kurono - Attribute: WIND, Type: Winged Beast, Level: 6, ATK: 1900, DEF: 1500
As Kurumu floated back down to ground level, she hovered over the still active Trap Hole.
Joey: How'd she do that?
Ty: As you can see, Kurumu isn't just any monster. She's a succubus.
Joey: … So ya monsta' can fly, doesn't matter! Trap Hole destroys any monster that's Summoned to your side of da field.
Ty: (Chuckles again) Right. Your the slow one… You see, Kurumu isn't a Normal monster. She has a Special Ability. When she's Summoned to the field, she can't be destroyed or removed from the field by even the most powerful Trap Effects, so I guess your Hole's gonna have to be closed up.
With Joey's Trap Hole effect resolving, the Trap Card itself fades away, and Trap Hole begins to close up before disappearing completely. Kurumu then landed on the field once the effect of both her Ability and the Trap expired.
Joey: (Grits his teeth upon his move failing, but recovers) So what? Yer monsta's weaker than mine. You try attacking with her, my swordsman's gonna burn her to a crisp.
This was not wrong. Kurumu was indeed a monster with decently high ATK, but was weaker in both values in comparison to Harpie Lady Sisters and Flame Swordsman armed with Legendary Sword. Their stats were brought up to confirm this, but this also brought up another good question…
Tristan: That is a good point. Why would Ty waste his Harpie Ladies for a weaker monster?
Bakura: Unless his succubus can also use Cyber Shield somehow, I can't see why he would.
This was a good point as well, as only Harpies can utilize the power of Cyber Shield, but Kurumu was a succubus and therefore, couldn't equip it. If Ty's unusual combo of WIND and DARK wasn't confusing enough, his current move made absolutely no sense under any circumstance.
Yami Yugi: (Has his arms folded, thinking upon what had transpired) *That IS strange indeed.*
Yugi: He's gotta be up to something.
Ty: (Chuckles a third time) Kurumu doesn't need HER points to beat your knight in burning armor.
Joey: (Is perplexed by Ty's statement) Huh?… What are ya talkin' about?
Moka: (Taps Yugi's shoulder) *Um… Yugi? Mister Pharaoh?*
Yugi: (He and Yami turn to face her, except Yami craned his neck and Yugi turned his body around halfway) *What's wrong now?*
Moka: *Well… (glances away with her eyes for a second before looking back) I'm not sure if it applies to your game, but Kurumu…*
Just as Joey asked his question and Moka was about to tell Yugi and Yami something important, Flame Swordsman was keeping his eyes on Kurumu in case she tried to attack. As he did, a close-up of Kurmu's deep beautiful eyes were shown, and several waves of invisible energy left them. They then made contact with Flame Swordsman, causing him to sway side to side as if under a spell or under confusion, groaning as this occurred. Joey and the rest his friends noticed this, but are unsure why.
Joey: (Notices Flame Swordsman's current state) Eh?… Flame Swordsman? What's wrong?
Flame Swordsman continues to moan for a few seconds before he finally stopped, now he wasn't moving, just standing still. A few seconds after that, he took small steps froward, AWAY from Joey's side of the field.
Joey: Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! Where ya going? Get back here! (It was no use. Joey's FIRE Warrior wasn't responding to his commands, he just continued to walk over to Ty's field until he was standing next to Kurumu. Joey was beyond confused) What's going on? Why's my swordsman on your side of da field?
Ty: Weren't you listening? Kurumu is a succubus. And as such, she's like a living Change of Heart. She can take control of 1 monster on the field, and will remain in control of it as long as she's on the field.
Ura Moka: *Can't say I'm surprised. Kurumu has the ability to bewitch men to her whim, which has also apparently now carried over into your game.*
Ty: See my brilliant plan now? I didn't have to attack you... I can destroy you, with your own monster! (Joey growls again, as Flame Swordsman was the only monster on his field, now he was defenseless) Now Flame Swordsman! Burn away the rest of Joey's Life Points!
At first, Flame Swordsman was still unresponsive. But after a 2-second delay, he moved and raised his sword, charging at his former master at full speed and giving a battle cry to carry out the attack order, his sword bursting into flames.
Joey: Wrong! Go! Da Magic Card, Scapegoat!
Just as Flame Swordsman had gotten into range, one of Joey's Set cards raised up. Upon activation, 4 sheep in 4 different colors appeared in the field, each one "Baaaa"-ing upon being Summoned.
Sheep Token (4x) - Attribute: EARTH, Type: Beast, Level: 1, ATK: 0, DEF: 0
Despite gaining 4 new monsters', replay occurred and the crazed Flame Swordsman chose to continue its assault, slicing one Sheep Token in half before both halves burst into flames and a small explosion followed afterword upon its destruction. One was down, but at least Joey's last few hundred points were safe.
Joey: Nice try, Ty. But I'm safe! Now neither of yer monstas' can get ta my Life Points!
Ty: (Despite Joey's last-ditch effort of a save, he doesn't seem concerned at all. He just smiles like before) Are you sure about that?
Joey looks on in confusion, but that's when Kurumu began to move her arms up, holding them sideways in front of her. Was she gonna attack too? Probably, but his LP will be spared while his Tokens were in Defense.
SNIKT! SNIKT!
Joey: (Has wide open eyes and wide mouth of gritted teeth, and then releases a high-pitched sound) GEEEEEEEEEE!
Joey and the others jumped at what just happened, clearly not expecting it (though him and Tristan were the most dramatic. The only ones who didn't react were the Moka twins). With a sound reminiscent of Wolverine's claws unveiling themselves, all five of Kurmu's pink fingernails extended, one set after the other. They looked to be at least 5 inches long, and were deadly sharp; looking like they can easily slice metal, let alone flesh from bone… AND the bone itself. If the wings and tail weren't proof enough of her monster status, there was no denying it now.
Téa: As a healthy woman, I take pride in my nails too, but whoa…
Joey: I think your monsta' needs a manicure for doze…
Ty: Oh-ho, your funny. (As he spoke that sentence, Kurumu takes a fighting stance with her new armed nails) This is actually Kurumu's second Ability.
Joey: Her second?
Ty: Yes. Her second… Ya know how some monsters have the unique Ability to inflict damage to a player, even while the target is in Defense Mode?… Well like them, Kurumu can too but unlike others, she can actually choose when and where to apply it!
Once again, the group was surprised. It was one thing that Piercing Damage wasn't exactly common, but that there was a monster out there… er, scratch that, in front of them (and that was a badly timed analogy); who can turn the ability on and off on command like that was incredible. They didn't think such a thing was possible. It would appear that just like Moka, who had her own special and unique powers, Kurmu had some tricks of her own as well. And chances are, so did the rest of their friends, wherever they were.
Unfortunately for the group, THIS friend spawned in an opposing deck.
Yami Yugi: *It would appear Kurumu IS in fact a unique monster. Causing damage even in Defense is rare enough, but to be able to choose when opens the door to even more strategies that are normally impossible.*
Yugi: *I know! She's just like Moka!*
Ura Moka: *Are you both seriously that surprised?* (Her question got the Yugis' to look back her)
Moka: *Inner Me, can you be a bit nicer please? They haven't seen monsters' like us before.*
Ura Moka: *That's not what I meant… (to Yugi and Yami) Don't you two find it odd that your precious Dark Magician, one of strongest wizards in history; doesn't have ANY Abilities on his own, despite being "The Ultimate Wizard"? Why he has to rely on other cards for additional Effects?*
Both Yugi and Yami pondered on that. That WAS a good point. Why did some monsters have Abilities and others didn't? Taking Ura's comment into perspective, some cards could only be used by certain monsters. Ty's and Mai's Harpie cards were perfect examples, they can use a variety of cards that only they can use such as Cyber Shield and Elegant Egotist. The boys thought maybe some monsters simply had none but if what Ura was saying was true… was there another reason?
Ura Moka: *It's the same reason Exodia's in 5 pieces… Think about it. If monsters' were given access to all their powers in a single card in your game, a large majority of them would be unstoppable. Dark Magician, Harpie Ladies, Red-Eyes Black Dragon, Blue-Eyes White Dragon… even monsters as weak as a Larvae Moth… nothing… would be able to take them down.*
Yugi and Yami were left speechless at Ura's bombshell. So THAT'S why other types of cards like Traps and Spells were created. Not just for the sake of a game… but to condense the powers of monsters on purpose! It actually made allot of sense and filled in the blanks of what they already knew. Some visions of the past that the group have all experienced, in all of them, not a single "Duelist" back then appeared to use ANY Spells or Traps. They just Summoned powerful creatures from giant stone tablets.
Ura Moka: *So Industrial Illusions, in addition to basing cards on us, created support cards to condense our powers while crossing into your world. That's why we need to graduate BEFORE having the option to become cards in your stupid game in the first place. However; we DIDN'T graduate, and were turned into cards without Pegasus' knowledge or through his company so as a result: we arrived in your world, and became cards in your game, with ALL our powers.*
Ura's explanation explained allot. Now it made sense why the Gods erupted from Yugi's deck out of nowhere and attacked her during their first Duel together… why her, her pink-haired cohort, and now succubus friend Kurumu had that dark aura around their cards… Because they weren't processed properly, they were simply too powerful! And had access to all their Abilities without any restrictions!
Ty: So, by doing some quick maths here; your Tokens have a big fat Zero in Defense points, and my Kurumu has 1900 ATK points… so where do you think that leaves your tiny 225 Life Points?
Joey gets nervous now with a scowl, knowing what that means.
Moka: (Tries to figure it out despite not knowing all the rules so well as of yet, counting on her fingers) *Wait. So if Kurumu destroys his Scapegoats…*
Ura Moka: (While also not too familiar with the rules, she answers bluntly with folded arms and eyes closed, also catching her softer sides attention) *It means he lost.*
Ty: Go, Kurumu! Slice those Sheep Tokens into a mattress!
Upon given the order to attack, Kurumu flapped her wings once to get off the ground, then flew forward at incredible speed towards Joey's Tokens, her hair also waving around due to have fast she was going. It didn't matter which one she attacked because due to her Piercing Damage, Joey'll lose the Duel.
Tristan: Oh no!
Téa: Joey!
Kurumu got closer and closer with each passing second. Joey was panicking. If he didn't do something now, its over!
Joey: NRRRRRRRRRRRR! (Comically scrambles, but presses a button on his Duel Disk) I activate anotha' Magic Card, (his last Set card rises up) Token Thanksgiving!
Upon activation, a goblin with a picnic basket comes out of the card, looking around as if browsing.
Token Thanksgiving Goblin: (Makes deep-sounding grunts and groans) Oooooh? Hmmmmm?… oh? (Notices the 3 remaining Sheep Tokens out of the corner of his eye, and then focuses in that direction)... OOOOOH-HOHOHOHO! (Skips over happily to one of the Tokens, then picks one up in the same fashion as the card art shows)
Joey: Dis card destroys every Token monsta' on da field, but in return, it boosts my Life Points by 800 fer each one.
Token Thanksgiving Goblin: (Holds his position, then quickly whips the Sheep Token into his mouth with a flick of his wrist, chewing on it as he ate it. Once he finished, he then inhaled a deep breath, creating a vacuum-like effect so strong that it also sucked in the other 2 Tokens with a whistling sound as they too entered his mouth, then repeated the eating process.) *Gulp!*... HMMMM! (His cheeks puff up and he covered his mouth with his free hand, as if he ate too much) *BUUUUUUUUUUUURP!* (Hits his chest a few times with a fist, then covers his mouth with one hand with a silly smile and giggle, as if saying "excuse me") Ho-ho... (with a 'poof', he disappeared in a puff of smoke)
Joey LP: 225 - 2625
Ty LP: 2750
Despite the 2400 point increase from Token Thanksgiving, there was nothing standing in Kurumu's way now. So once she got close enough, she attacked Joey with a swipe of her nails. Joey of course, grunted loudly in pain with gritted teeth due to the attack, and he did take quite a bit of damage from it... but at least he survived for another turn.
Joey LP: 2625 - 725
Ty LP: 2750
The others (excluding Ura Moka) sighed in relief. That was too close for comfort. Another second, and Joey's Life Points would've been slashed away by Kurumu's sharp nails.
Joey: Uggggh… Eh? (For some reason, he felt wetness in his school uniform where Kurumu had just struck. Looking over to it, which was his arm, he noticed something odd… his jacket and shirt underneath was physically slashed… and the marks left behind were bleeding! Thankfully not profusely, but it was still quite noticeable. He looked down at it in shock) *The heck… my arm's bleeding?… How's dat possible…?*
This new development made the former bully confused and scared. Don't get him wrong, from what he experienced and understood, the technology of the Duel Disk stimulated nerves in the body so the damage feels real, making the game more authentic and engaging… but usually when something physical happens is the result of a Shadow Game; and there was no swirling energy of dark mass anywhere that he could see.
Because of Joey's position, his friends could not see the damaged uniform.
Ty: (Blinks a few times, as if surprised himself at what happened to Joey) … wow. I mean, this is first time I had Kurumu attack someone directly, but this holographic imagery looks realer than usual. (Glances down at his Duel Disk) This thing get an update?
Moka: (After a moment of processing what just happened, she breathes) *… He's ok…*
Ura Moka: *Barely.*
Tristan: (Grabs his chest in relief) Pheeeeeeew… that was a close one.
Bakura: Luckily Joey had those Magic Cards on the field, or he would have lost the Duel.
Téa: (Groans as she catches her breath)… I think my heart stopped.
Yami Yugi: *Playing both Scapegoat and Token Thanksgiving saved him.*
Yugi: *Yeah. If he waited any longer, Kurumu's attack would cost him the Duel.* (To Joey) JOEY! You okay out there?
Joey: (Slowly begins to recover) Ugh… (looks back at the group with a smile, ignoring the condition of his arm) Don't sweat it, Yuge! (Gives a thumbs-up despite the situation) Joey's stilling kicking. (Upon giving that gesture, THAT's when the group saw the state of his clothes, and just stared. Joey then realized what they were staring at, and quickly waved it off with a nervous grin and laugh) Hehe, ya know… gonna love deez intense Duels, eh? Hehehehe…
Upon looking back towards the Duel, Joey was for another surprise from Kurumu but its not because of another Ability… it was her expression. Most of the time, monsters rush back to their controllers side of the field after an attack without a second thought… but she didn't move from her position at all! She was just floating there, looking at the man she just injured with concern on her face. Dare one say: regret? Joey looked at her in bewilderment, as this normally doesn't happen. He had to admit though; for a monster, like either side of Moka, Kurumu was the definition of a knockout.
Ty: Uh, Kurumu? (Looks down at his Duel Disk again and taps a side of it three times with one finger, looking over the object in question) This thing glitching out again? Tall, rich, and snobby said: (mimics Kaiba's normal tone to the best of his ability) 'our state of the art technology is working perfectly'.
Kurumu reacted upon hearing Ty call her name, and with another single flap of her wings, she went back to his field quickly, taking a normal stance once she returned and landed. Ty did not see this occur since the kid was fiddling with his Duel Disk, thinking it was busted.
Joey: Eh? *… oh yeah… dat's right. Moka said she was looking fer her friends and a way out of her card, so dis Kurumu's not a hologram… she's a real monsta'.*
-FLASHBACK-
Joey: So… monsta's go ta school too?
Téa: And you learn how to interact with humans once you graduate and turn into cards?
Moka: We do. But me and friends got here by a total mistake, weren't not supposed to be here!… (sighs) I know how unbelievable my story must sound, but I have to find them all! If we don't get back soon, we could be stuck like this forever!
-END FLASHBACK-
Joey: *If she stays in Ty's deck, den there's a chance she'll neva find a way outta dat card, or back home. I mean, sure she stole my swordsman… and ruined my favorite shirt… but if she's friends wit Moka, then she can't be that bad, right?*
Ty: (Still fiddles with Duel Disk, but then noticed Kurumu was back on his field) … Oh. It fixed itself. (Continues where he left off and picks a card from his hand) You got in a lucky play, Wheelie; (Sets the card he picked) take your turn.
Joey continued to look across the field at the strange succubus. He decided he was going to go with his gut. If Kurumu was just an average monster, she would have just went back to her field without delay. But she appeared to stay behind to check on the human she just attacked. No monster had ever done that before; and if this was a girl, trapped with no way out, then just like his final Duel with Mai… he was gonna save her.
Joey: Hey, Ty; how's about we raise da stakes of dis Duel? (That got Ty's attention, as well as everyone else's) Whatcha say to a little wager?
Ty: (Cocks an eyebrow) A wager?
Joey: You heard me. How's about da winner of dis Duel, ALSO gets a card from da losers deck. Just like Battle City.
Aside from the self-aware monsters, who looked to have no idea what the term Battle City meant, this surprised the humans. Battle City was over, so that rule no longer applied. Why was Joey bringing it up though?
Téa: (Is calm, speaking in a monotone tone) What is he doing?
Tristan: No idea.
Ura Moka: *Something stupid?* (Was more of a blunt statement than a genuine question)
Joey: (Overhears what his friends say, but chooses to ignore it) You wanted to embarrass me, right? Well, what better way to do dat, than take a card from my deck? I'll give ya whatever ya want… Jinzo, Red-Eyes, Gilford... heck! I'll give ya all 3 of 'em!
Ty's eyes seemed to gleam for a second upon that promise, and the group just stared in disbelief at what Joey said, but he wasn't done just yet.
Joey: But da card I want (points to Ty's side of the field, and the camera pans to reveal what he's pointing at)... is your Kurumu Kurono!
Again, Kurumu reacted with a surprised look, proving to Joey she was NOT a hologram… she was real. A real girl, trapped in piece of printed paper, from a multi-billion yen corporation, owned by a guy who lost a magic eye. To say his friends were shocked was a major understatement... but it wasn't at Kurumu's expression, as that wasn't what they paid attention too...
Téa: Has he lost his mind?!
Bakura: He's giving up 3 of his best cards for one?
Tristan: I think that succubus also sliced out half his brain...
Joey just kept a poker face as he looked directly at Ty, waiting for the younger Duelists response. The Duelist in question thought about Joey's offer.
Ty: *Hmm... three cards for the price of one, eh?... I mean, I didn't challenge the dog for his cards; just to make him feel the same pain he inflicted on me. Plus, Kurumu's the monster I need to make my deck invincible… It's quite the tempting offer, though. Those cards aren't exactly easy to come by... I guess my deck could use a bit of a tune-up.* (He thinks upon it for a few more seconds before giving his official answer by pointing back) Alright Wheelie, you've got a deal! Once I win this Duel, your three best monsters are making a new home in MY deck! (The camera shifts to Kurumu) Buuuuut... if you SOMEHOW manage to pull off a win; then Kurumu's yours.
Kurumu reacted a third time, showing confusion towards Ty's words as if she was thinking: "What are they saying?" or "He's giving me up?". Joey felt relief upon Ty's confirmation. Once again, Ty took the bait... only now he had to actually win before the monster high schooler could be saved, and it looked easier said than done. And if he loses... well... his deck'll be 3 monsters lighter.
Ura Moka: (Is silent for a moment before speaking to the Yugis' again) *... For all that talk about Heart in your Cards, you sure give them away like 8-year-olds and Pocket Monsters.*
Moka: *So... why would Joey bet his cards like that?*
Yugi: *Well, before you guys came around, there was a special tournament that allowed the winner to take a powerful card from the opponents deck. That's how me and the Pharaoh got back the God Cards.*
Yami Yugi: (Finishes Yugi's sentence) *And Joey's doing the same thing now; to win Kurumu back.*
Ura Moka: (Rolls eyes) *Please. Even if he does win, she's not even worth HALF a card.*
Joey: *Alright… all I gotta do now is win dis Duel, an get dat girl outta there. (Kurumu is shown again for a second with Flame Swordsman next to her, with both their values popping up beside them) I just need a monsta' strong enough ta get through dem.*
Ty: (Grows impatient) Let's go, puppy-dog. It's your turn.
Joey: (Growls at the analogy, but takes his turn) Alright, here goes. (Draws his next card) I'm gonna first activate Roll of Fate, letting me draw cards depending on what I roll. (Roll of Fate activates, and lands on a 6, the highest result) The results are in! And Joey draws 6 more of deez bad boys! (Draws again, and is surprised at what he got) *Panther Warrior. He's a Level 4 monsta', and he's got plenty of ATK points! Dis is just what I needed!* … Ok, Charmy. I'm gonna Set one card face-down (Sets a card). *If all else fails, dat card should help as a last resort. Hopefully, I won't have ta activate it too soon.* Next; I Summon, Panther Warrior!
Upon being Summoned, Panther Warrior released a cougar-like roar, armed with his long blade and shield.
Panther Warrior - Attribute: EARTH, Type: Beast-Warrior, Level: 4, ATK: 2000, DEF: 1600
Moka: *Oh, wow! That monsters got 2000 ATK points!*
Ura Moka: *But Panther Warriors' are known to be extremely hungry. They NEVER stop eating… (glances toward Yami) which I'm going to assume applies to his card counterpart?*
Yami Yugi: *If you mean Joey has to sacrifice a monster first, then unfortunately yes.*
Moka: (Is confused) *Wait… but he's a Level 4 monster, like me. I thought we don't need sacrifices.*
Yugi: *Well, yes… and no. You see, some monsters have side effects. Panther Warrior might be a strong monster that can be Summoned regularly, but he requires a sacrifice to launch an attack.*
Moka: *But I thought Effects were supposed to be a good thing.*
Yugi: *Not always. Some monster Abilities can also be their weaknesses, and Joey used up all his Scapegoats last turn so unless he Summons something else; Panther Warrior's not gonna be able to attack at all.*
It seemed like Joey screwed up, but Yugi believed Joey Summoned that purple feline for a reason. He HAD to be up to something…
Ty: Impressive choice, Wheeler. That's just enough to take out my Kurumu… pity you lost your pom-poms. He can't attack without having a snack.
Joey: (Despite knowing his own Beast-Warriors negative Effect, he's shown smiling) Ya right. He does look a little parched.
Ty: (Cocks eyebrow) Eh?
Joey: (Pulls another card from his Hand, and inserts it into the Spell/Trap slot) Here ya go, buddy. Have a sip!
The card that revealed itself had a girl or a maiden of some kind on its artwork drinking from a golden glass. When the card was activated, a small yet tall table rose up with that same single glass on it, appearing next to Panther Warrior. While the Beast-Warrior was a bit confused at first, he put his sword down on the table (as he has no scabbard for his blade), and picked up the glass and drank its contents. Upon finishing the beverage, he put the glass but down and nothing happened… at first. After a second or two passed, the purple panther snarled, then roared ferociously. He then grabbed his blade off the table, knocking it over with how quick he was, and appeared to enter a crazed state. He continued to roar and snarl even after the fact.
Panther Warrior - Attribute: EARTH, Type: Beast-Warrior, Level: 4, ATK: 2000 - 2400, DEF: 1600
Bakura: Panther Warrior's ATK strength just went up.
Téa: That's great and all, but it still can't attack unless Joey has a monster to give up.
Ty: So your purple Tigger's now a few hundred points stronger, big deal! It needs a sacrifice in order to attack!
Joey: (Still smiles) Don'tcha see? He already got one.
Ty: Hmm?
Ty and the gang were confused, even the 2 vampire halves. Joey didn't Tribute a monster for the Effect of Panther Warrior, so what was he talking about?
Joey: Dat last Magic Card I played is a little something called; Forbidden Chalice. Drinking it not only gives one monsta' on da field a power boost, but it also cancels out any Abilities they got til the end of the turn (his answer gets the gears in everyone elses' heads turning, and they slowly began to understand)… ya get it now? What was in dat cup WAS da sacrifice… which means my Panther Warrior can attack!… Plus, I figured out yer succubus' weakness.
Ty: What weakness?
Joey: Dat sure, she can keep hold of a monster while she's on the field, just like you said… so what do ya think'll happen when she leaves da field?
Ty frowns at Joey's observation, confirming he was correct.
Ura Moka: *… I take it back… he has some skills, I suppose.* (While she does acknowledge this, she still didn't fully respect this group of humans just yet.)
Bakura: So not only did Joey Summon a powerful monster and made it stronger, but by negating its Effect, he's now free to attack.
Téa: And once Kurumu's gone, Flame Swordsman will go back to Joey, leaving Ty defenseless!
Again, it was another stroke of genius on Joey's part. With Forbidden Chalice, he not only negated the side effect of his own monster; but also made it the strongest one on the field, allowing it to take out either one of Ty's. Even if he used it on Kurumu, sure it would have negated her control over Flame Swordsman, but then SHE'D be too strong for either monster to overcome and waste the turn. And the moment she was sent to the Graveyard, her control over Flame Swordsman will expire anyway, allowing Joey a second strike!
Moka: (Realizes what was probably going to happen and gets worried) *Wait… he really has to destroy her?*
Ura Moka: *He has no choice. The longer Kurumu's on the field, the longer she and Joey's monster will protect Ty's score number. Not to mention she can override the rules regarding Defensive monsters so when she's gone, his own score will be that much safer… if anything, she NEEDS some sense knocked into her.*
Kurumu looked as concerned as Moka did, further proof she wasn't just another holographic image of a monster. Joey could only look at her, mentally apologizing.
Joey: *Sorry, Kurumu; but if I'm gonna win dis Duel, I need YOU off da field…* Alright! Panther Warrior! Attack his Kurumu Kurono! Swift Panther Slash!
As Panther Warrior was already in a frenzied state thanks Forbidden Chalice negating its Effect, he was more than willing to get on with it. The second Joey gave the order, he was already on the move, roaring again and rushing towards his target as fast as his feet could carry him, closing in on the succubus.
…
…
…
ROOOOOOOOOOOOOAR!
A louder roar than the one Panther Warrior executed stopped the Beast-Warrior Type dead in its tracks, forcing it to brace from the loud roar from the opposite end of the field. In fact, the roar was so strong, wind was generated which got Joey and the spectators to brace too. When he looked back up, Panther Warrior was back in its original position.
Joey: No way. Why did Panther Warrior back off?
Everyone noticed Ty activated a Trap, its card now face-up.
Ty: In the wild, you always back off from a Threatening Roar. This Trap Card prevents your monsters from attacking this turn, so my Kurumu isn't going anywhere. And since the Effect of your Chalice expired, your purple panther's ATK points drop back down to its normal level.
With the Effect of Joey's card over, Panther Warrior gives a low exhausted growl as his points went back down and his Ability returned. Joey couldn't help but growl himself and slightly clench his fist. Darn it! He was so close!
Panther Warrior - Attribute: EARTH, Type: Beast-Warrior, Level: 4, ATK: 2400 - 2000, DEF: 1600
Tristan: He almost had her.
Bakura: If he didn't have that Trap Card, Joey could've gotten through.
Moka didn't know whether to feel happy that Kurumu wasn't gonna be harmed this turn, or feel bad that Joey's attack failed. She understood he now needed to win to get her back; but despite their rivalry, she still cared about her well-being.
Ty: Are you done now?
Joey: (Looks through his Hand quickly for another move he could make as it was his second Main Phase. He notices one card he could play) Grr… Not yet! I play, the Magic Card, Dark Hole! (The card appears on the field, but its Effect doesn't trigger just yet) This card opens up a black hole in the center of da field; and sure, it drags all my monstas' to the Graveyard... but so do yours!
Moka: *So... he's destroying all the monsters?*
Ura Moka: *It's his best chance to survive. (As she speaks her next sentence, all monsters appear with their values up. First was Panther Warrior) His Panther Warrior's now weaker than Flame Swordsman (next both Flame Swordsman and Kurumu are shown next to each other), so mostly likely Ty will attack with him next turn; then Kurumu immediately after. If Joey doesn't do this now, he'll lose otherwise.*
Joey: So, Ty; can ya bat-girl fly away from dis?
Upon making that challenge, the Dark Hole Spell activated, with a black hole swirling in the center of the field before it began to expand. That's when a vacuum-like force began pulling, affecting the monsters in play. Panther Warrior and Flame Swordsman tried standing their ground, but they were slowly pulled towards the powerful Spell Effect. Kurumu was too, even having to use her wings for stability, but even that wasn't working. It finally looked like she was going to the Graveyard, albeit the cost of both Duelists losing their other monsters.
Ty: She doesn't need to fly away. She'll just cast a Dark Illusion! (Reveals a Counter Trap that had a being in a robe in its card art. The being also had glowing eyes) Thanks to this Counter Trap, while I have a DARK monster in play; the Effect of any Magic, Trap or monster you activate is automatically negated!
Joey: Ya don't have a DARK monsta'! You only got a FIRE and WIND one!
Ty: (Looks entertained) You STILL haven't figured it out?
Joey: What are ya talking about?
Ty: (Chuckles) Look closer...
Joey and the rest of his friends did just that... that's when they noticed not only was the Counter Trap fully functioning, as it glowed to signal this... but an aura of energy surrounded Kurumu! Somehow... the Trap Card was activating!
Ty: NOW you see why Kurumu's the perfect card for my deck? Because not only is she a Winged Beast-Type WIND monster... she's ALSO a Fiend-Type DARK monster! Which means I'm plugging up yet another one of your giant Holes!
As Kurumu was in fact the correct corresponding monster for Dark Illusion, she released the energy given to her by folding her arms around herself along with her wings; then opened them to release that very same energy, spreading it across the playing field. Once that happened, the swirling Dark Hole suddenly slowly down, reached a complete stop... then went in the OTHER direction. This caused the black hole effect to close in and shrink on itself until there was only a dot left... until it vanished. The Dark Hole Spell card, had been successfully negated.
The group and Joey were in shock. Despite the odd combo Ty used, it appeared actually quite effective, making this Duel's outcome look grimmer by the second.
Ty: Are you quite finished now?
Joey: (Lowly snarls, but then stopped quickly. He picked one other card in his Hand and Set it in silence. When he speaks again, he almost sounds defeated) Yeah... I'm done.
Ty: Bout time (draws a card).
The very second Ty's new card was added to his Hand, the same waves of magic that left Kurumu's eyes before triggered again, and all of a sudden Panther Warrior was wobbling as Flame Swordsman was just before control was shifted. Of course, as those waves weren't visible, the Yugi team didn't realize this was the case as of yet.
Joey: Panther Warrior? (Is absolutely gobsmacked when the second he asked if his monster was ok, the next second it started slowly walking over to Ty's field)
Téa: Now Panther Warrior?!
Tristan: But Ty didn't activate any cards yet!
As Panther Warrior took its place in a new Zone, on another side of Kurumu ironically enough, Joey is pointing at Ty's side of field with a wide open mouth. The noise that came out can only be described as a dying turkey.
Joey: DAAAAAAAAAA…! (Recovers, though still used a somewhat high-pitched voice) Hey, you said you can only control 1 monsta'!
Ty: (Speaks calmly) And you thought that meant only once?
Joey: Hah?
While everyone dreaded what that implied, Ty explained it.
Ty: When I said Kurumu was like a living Change of Heart card; I meant it. She can emit her Succubus Charm on a target, which puts it under her complete control. And as long as she's on the field, she can continue to cast this Charm not just once… but once EVERY turn!
Joey: WHAAAAT?!
Tristan: Once every turn?!
Téa: Wait, how is that fair? If Ty can steal one monster per turn, how's Joey supposed to defend himself? He'll lose every monster he plays!
Now… even Yami and Yugi were concerned for Joey, and it was looking quite grim for the tallest Duelist of their group. If Ty continued that strategy and Joey couldn't figure out how to stop it… he'll run out of monsters! In fact, they'll all be turned against him! As for Joey himself, while his face had a scowl… his body was trembling, and his hands where shaking. He may have bitten off way more than he could chew.
Ty: You were a fool to challenge me, Joey! As long as I have Kurumu, you not only have to worry about my cards… but EVERY monster in YOUR deck! Ha, ha… ha, ha… HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!
As Ty's laugh seemed to echo, Joey continued to stare with uncertainty to his opponents field. In his own imagination, his monsters were allot bigger than they normally were, and behind them appeared Kurumu, surrounded by a dark aura and menacingly glowing eyes. As he continued to tremble, trying to come up with SOME kind of counter, he had one final thought…
Joey: (Kurumu was then shown as normally as he looked at her) *I wanna save ya, Kurumu. I really do… (the camera returns to his face, showing trembling eyes) but how do I get past a monsta'… dat can control all of mine!*
To Be Continued…
So yeah, cutting it off at the good part, just like the anime did 100's of times and left us screaming at the screen demanding more. This is only just a sneak peak, but at over 14000 words, its quite a generous one. And yes, I'm aware some Card Effects don't match their real counterparts... how many times has the franchise done that? To both real cards and anime ones?
If I get more viewership and comments, I'd be willing to give you guys the second part and the full context before the main story comes out. Sound good? Besides, I have yet to show the full extent of Kurmu's powers in this universe. She has allot more as Ura foreshadowed, which of course includes the other girls too. The second half of Kurumu's debut fight is probably gonna be Joey's toughest Duel in his life, rivaling his Duels with Kaiba.
I mentioned this to a few people from my PMs' but as for this crossover... the R+V characters Effects will be almost gamebreaking.
So until then, why not share this story around? Recommend it to friends. Give me a little more than the 3 follows I currently have, and part 2 is yours. In any case, hope you all enjoyed, and I'll see ya'll next time. ;)
