So its been since March since I last updated this, now its July… anyone still out there? Lol. So sorry about the long wait, but we're here now to continue the adventure. I have so much in store: a new archetype, returning characters, unique Shadow Games with unique rules the main series never tackled… gonna be great when we get there, trust me.
Also anyone ever heard of Staying in the Background? Such a great fic, lots of fun. I personally recommend it. Was written Emblemfan1, whom has commented a couple of times here, so he's not that hard to find.
However at the time of posting this, Kazuki Takahashi, the creator of our favorite franchise, has passed away, so a moment of silence for him out of respect. I think Joey in the English Dub said it best:
"Friends may be hard to leave, but their impossible to forget! And even though his stay wasn't as we would have liked… we're lucky we knew him at all… Your not going anywhere! Cuz everything you taught us stays right here in our hearts!"
As a refresher, last time the Rosario cast were turned into cards, and were sent into many Duelists Decks. What will happen now? That's were our story begins, and its Moka's Duel debut here. Can anyone guess her Ability/Effect? There's also a special section at the bottom of the page (let me know if its something you want me to keep), but lets respond to some reviews first:
From Emblemfan1:
So I quite enjoyed the last two chapters, I still find the concept to be quite interesting and I am looking forward to seeing where it is going. The Masked King's appearance was a surprise, although whether he is the same as he is in the manga is still to be seen. I don't know if this was on purpose but I noticed you've upgraded the effects of both A Rival Appears and Loop of Destruction. Will other real cards receive similar upgrades in future?
Bakuganman: Glad you like the direction I'm taking things. Yeah, Masked King is here as well. And yes, upgrading certain cards was on purpose. Its more of an anime route; where the card may differ from the actual TCG/OCG counterpart (you and me would be rich if we, including your Staying in the Background discord server, named all the times thats happened). One example is going to be a rematch between Kaiba and Tenmei not too long after this, where his opening move will be confusing at first.
From Guest:
Great chapter.
Glad to see u mention the ba
As monster energy.
Can't wait for the ka.
Mikogami drawing Kaiba. Lol. So something he would do.
The masked man. Doing bakura esc stuff. Awesome.
Question how would the other gods rank in.
Time lords (arch angels. Agents aka hyperion.(Greek titan.)
Aesir.(stronger in show)
Earthbound.
Orichalcos. (Leviathan)
Etc. How would they all rank to egyption gods.
Because like if horathky is created of light.
Zork darkness.
Christian God (timelords)
Is the world's creator.
U could weave a hell of a power structure here.
I would love to see more. And longer ch.
I'm going to assume that yugi will proly get tsukunes card as he has moka.
After all tsukune and moka are stronger together.
Also would the creatures the masked man summon actually have there full tilt powers or there game balanced
Nice ch. I'll be a little bit briefer here since. My other review may load. Hell hopefully this loads.
From Guest (same one as above):
Great ch.
Can deffinatly see mikogami acting like that in a duel with Kaiba.
So awesome.
The fight scene with the masked man( dracula-alucard)
Brilliant.
Question tho. When he summons a monster. Like jirai gumo.
Etc do they get summoned with there full power or only there balanced ability.
Also is he using pure yokai.
Also great to see the ba connection to yokai being dropped.
I can also see yugi getting tsukunes card. After all moka and tsukune are strongest together...
Also how do the other gods and power houses of yugioh fit in to the egyption God and yokai power structure.
I.e.
Aesir.
Zushin
Agents (hyperion) Greek titan
Timelords(heavens host)
Etc
Any who awesome ch.
Can't wait for more. Wish the chapters were a bit longer
Bakuganman: For the first review, they would all rank around the same, some slightly stronger or weaker than others. Now in RV, some Gods (though there are very few) are labeled S-Class. Everything you mentioned however, are going to be a fan-term known as Special Class, a little different from S-Class despite both beginning with an "S". Special Class monsters are still technically S-Class as thats the highest possible rank, and its honestly less cringe than "S-Class Ultra-Super Monster" the anime went with.
One example as already mentioned were Blue-Eyes and Red-Eyes, when Ura/Inner Moka claimed they were in a class all their own. Dark Magician will be the same, which I rank this by how much support the game provides these types of monsters, and also how powerful the monsters themselves are on their own, hence the reason Gaia the Fierce Knight in the official first chapter is also S-Class. One exception to this rule are monsters like Kuriboh. Despite all the support and retrains he has, he's a very Low-Class monster due to his low stats.
I'll save the answer for "are monsters summoned by Masked King stronger" for later, as that will also be answered in the eventual rematch between Kaiba and Tenmei. And don't worry, chapters will be longer. The last 2 were just intro-like, and are planned to be longer… especially when Duels involving Yokai students are declared as in the case with Joey before winning Kurumu in the trailers.
From Chronos0305:
Hey again, you know I remember about some Yugioh lore regarding vampires. Wonder how that abd Camula can fit into this story? And I am not expecting major involvement, just a passing mention at best
Bakuganman: Yeah, I do. While it might not be direct involvement, she may get a mention. That's also GX era if I'm not mistaken.
Chapter 1: The Curse Begins
LOCATION: Human World, Domino City
Yugi didn't understand what was going on. He was just walking down the streets of Domino City, and people were screaming and running away from something. He tried asking what was going on, but no one paid him any mind or just ignored him for the sake of their own safety.
STOMP!
That's when Yugi heard something behind him, but he got a very uneasy feeling. He slowly turned back around… and saw a giant monster of some kind. It was massive, easily as tall as a skyscraper! It roared at him (or if not at him, at the fleeing prey from earlier), before stomping towards him.
Yugi was frozen… he couldn't move…
Suddenly, Yugi's cards began glowing from his Deck from the Duel Disk on his arm. Before him appeared some of his best or iconic monsters: Kuriboh, Obnoxious Celtic Guardian, Kings Knight, Jacks Knight, Queen's Knight, Summoned Skull, Beast/Archfiend of Glifer, Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts, Berfomet, Gaia the Fierce Knight, Curse of Dragon, Dark Magician Girl and Dark Magician.
Kuriboh was a Low-Class Monster, with Celtic Guardian also pretty low on the monster Class totem pole, but was obviously much stronger. Gazelle and Berfomet were both A-Class monsters. The 3 Knights were a range between B and A-Class, but together they could take out an S-Class monster no problem. Summoned Skull and Glifer both being S-Class, and of course so were both Magicians.
With that many Monster Classes and each possessing unique abilities, anyone would have a hard time with an army like that.
Yugi's monsters stared in defiance at the creature attempting to harm their master, and a battle ensued. With another roar, the creature used some tentacles that sprouted from behind its back to attack the group of monsters. First the Knights and Obnoxious Celtic Guardian slashed all the tentacles coming they're way, Gazelle and Berfomet used their speed and claws to cut the tentacles with Berformet able to do so in a 360 manner due to his body type, Kuriboh Multiplied himself and crashed into these tentacles before he exploded, Summoned Skull zapped any tentacle that got too close, Curse of Dragon burned any tentacles with his fiery breathe and Glifer did the same by summoning a pillar of flame from the ground, Gaia and his horse jousted through any tentacles, and both Dark Magicians' blasted any away with magic.
Yugi felt safe at this point with his monsters protecting him, but he still questioned what exactly was going on here. What was that thing? And where did it come from?
That's when the tide turned for the worst. No matter how many tentacles were repelled back, they either appeared to regenerate or just more continued to come. Either way, Queen's Knight missed a slash due to this tentacle reeling itself back before the sword hit it. Now defenseless, it jabbed itself into the monster… but instead of destroying it, the tentacle appear to expand over the monster before swallowing it. She did struggle to break free, but was ultimately unsuccessful.
This caused the other Knights to lose focus and were ambushed from behind, both the remaining Knight's could do nothing as they too were absorbed. Celtic Guardian lasted a little longer, due to either willpower or his own Effect, but regardless he was attacked in the arm and while he was able to cut the attacker off, he was in pain and vulnerable to another strike from the opposite side, him being taken as well.
"GUYS!" Yugi said, worried for his monsters well-being. What was happening to them?
Glifer was taken next, but he appeared to trigger his own ability to weaken the creature so his sacrifice wouldn't be in vain… but when the soul of Glifer attempted to do so, it did not work for some reason. Curse of Dragon was flying around wildly, belching flames at the tentacles which appeared to increase in attack speed; but his right wing was struck, where he screeched in pain before his other wing and body was also attacked in the same fashion. Another tentacle attached to his skull, absorbing him from the head down. Gaia was taken a moment later, distracted by its fusion partners defeat when a tentacle absorbed his horse, which caused him to fly off before being wrapped up and eaten himself.
Even all the clones of Kuriboh and the real Kuriboh couldn't keep up with the rate the tentacles retaliated back, and each one was swallowed in a single bite. Even exploding after the fact didn't help.
Now a little stressed and a bit exhausted, both Magicians' combined their magic to create a strong barrier, with the tentacles unable to get through immediately. Taking desperate measures, Gazelle and Berfoment fused themselves to form Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast. With increased speed and power, going from A-Class monsters to an S-Class one, they drove back a large amount of tentacles and also evaded being eaten with they're combined speed.
Summoned Skull even unleashed a large amount power with a loud cry, striking every single tentacle which even flowed into the creature itself, who roared in pain. Despite this, more tentacles surrounded the Archfiend, and wrapped him up like a bunch of snakes coiling around a single prey. He did continue to fight back with electricity, but it was sadly not enough and he disappeared and his battle cry was cut off.
Chimera was impaled through the bottom of its belly to the top of its body by a lucky tentacle. Thankfully, their ability kicked in and both materials came back, but they were both in pain and tired. Gazelle was swallowed just before he landed on the ground floor, and while Berfoment attempted to fly away and fight back, he too was taken.
The barrier from the Magicians was also completely destroyed by all the tentacles attacking it at a single time. While both Magicians tried to keep it active, even their combined power was too weak of a defense. In fact, The force of the magical barrier breaking caused enough G-Force to send Yugi backwards. When he only recovered, he watched as two of his most famous monsters were slowly absorbed into the tentacles that caught them.
He was defenseless as the giant monster hissed and sent tentacles after him again, but Yugi's Side Deck belt glowed this time and the ground opened up, and up arose Obelisk the Tormentor. From the sky, with thunder clapping and sudden bright sunlight, appeared Slifer the Sky Dragon and The Winged Dragon of Ra in that order. The tentacles retreated upon their Summoning.
Obelisk attacked first, rushing forward with surprising speed for such a large God, attacking the creature directly with Fist of Fate. Giving an even louder roar of pain than the other monsters that fought it, the creature was pushed some distance back, but not too far as it appeared strong enough to resist the attack to some degree. Not only that, there was a large hole in the monster from said attack. Slifer and Ra attacked from above with Thunder Force and Blaze Cannon respectively. Both these attacks caused an explosion and dust cloud.
When it finally settled, the creature looked severely damaged, burn marks on its body as well as the aforementioned hole… until the hole slowly closed up.
After that, the burn marks healed instantaneously. After somehow regenerating his body, the creature gave a loud threatening roar towards the Egyptian Gods. It retaliated with more tentacles aimed at Obelisk, these small things were strong enough to puncture his chest and tough skin. The God groaned in pain, then even more tentacles struck him all over his body until eventually the God couldn't take it anymore and was destroyed.
Ra flew down towards the Monster that dared destroyed one of its brothers, entering its Phoenix Mode midway through the flight. It crashed into the creature, setting it ablaze (pained roars can be heard again) and causing another explosion…
WHIP! GRAB!
From the dust cloud, multiples of those tentacles managed to grab Ra's foot the moment he fly away and exited his Phoenix Form. In fact, it's grip was so strong, it held the mighty Sun God in place. The dust cleared again to show the creature had either had not taken any damage or it healed itself again. Ra attempted to fight it, but the Sun God was dragged down… scratch that, thrown down, making the Winged Dragon crash into the streets directly in front of the being that grabbed it.
Ra recovered and shot a Blaze Cannon at the creature, the scorching flames burning off one of the beings arms… until it almost immediately grew back, though at a much slower pace than before which was probably due to Ra's power. Once it healed itself again, the beast used its tentacles to lift up Ra by its wings, and the arm it grew back extended really sharp claws.
With a single slash, Ra was cut downward diagonally, then after a cry of pain, it was destroyed.
Slifer, enraged its brethren were easily wiped out, charged up a Lightning Blast in its upper mouth, and fired 3 of them. They all hit their intended target. The beast took damage, as well as the Effect of the Lightning Blasts severely weakening it. Taking this opportunity, the Sky Dragon flew down and wrapped its entire body up around the creature like a snake. It positioned its head directly in front of the creatures head, then shot a Thunder Force AND Lightning Blast at point blank range directly on the creatures head.
Just before the explosion occurred, Slifer released its grip, letting the enemy take all the damage… it was really quiet then… no sound was made for a good 5 seconds…
GRAB!
Slifer roared as a large hand erupted from the dust cloud, grabbing the Gods neck and pulling it down. Slifer struggled and thrashed about, its long body even damaging some buildings, but the grip of the opponent was too tight. Slifer had also pissed this thing off apparently, so instead of using tentacles or its claws this time…
CHOMP!
Slifer's roar of pain became very close to high-pitch, close to crying even. The monster had just bitten the Sky Dragon on the neck, its mouth enclosing perfectly and all around the serpent-like body of Slifer. This just caused Slifer to thrash about even more wildly, unleashing Thunder Force multiple times into the sky as a reaction. Eventually, the Sky Dragon held on for as long as it could before it too was destroyed after being bitten in half!
Yugi could only watch in horror… that was impossible… his best monsters, and even all 3 Egyptian Gods had fallen before this creature!
Before he could even react, those tentacles that either destroyed or swallowed his monsters caught him as well. However instead of absorbing him there, he was lifted up the the creature face-to-face, where it snarled at him. It then opened its mouth, were Yugi could see loads of sharp teeth, before guiding him towards them. And no matter how much he begged or struggled… he was dropped in…
XXX
Yugi sat up with a start, breathing rapidly… he looked around the dark area… he was in his room, safe in his bed… it was all a dream. He slowly began to calm down, seeing it wasn't real.
The transparent image of the Pharaoh exited him, standing by his bed and leaning down to his partner. 'Yugi? What's wrong?' He asked his host, asking his close friend what was wrong.
This confused Yugi… Pharaoh didn't see that? At all?! But they shared a mind… er, they shared each other's thoughts but could chose not too… it was really hard to explain to someone not in the bubble.
"Uh… yeah… just a nightmare, I guess." Yugi said.
Pharaoh seemed to know something was up, but it didn't feel right to pry. He could if he wanted to, but chose not too. 'Are you sure your ok, Yugi? You look really shaken.' Pharaoh offered.
"I am… just, kinda tired." Yugi said, which technically wasn't untrue. They literally just finished dealing with the Great Leviathan not too long ago, which was a very stressful adventure for a multitude of reasons. "I'll talk to you about it later. I promise." Yugi added.
Giving a simple nod, the Pharaoh returned to the recesses of Yugi's mind. After that, Yugi tried going back to sleep. It Took a few minutes, but he eventually drifted off. He never noticed that his Deck in his desk was faintly glowing before stopping a short while later…

A few days later…
In an undisclosed location, there was a large platform in the center of a large room which was large enough to hold an Egyptian God. On this platform was a creature, but it was floating inside of a transparent floating sphere of some sort. Kind of like The Winged Dragon of Ra's Sphere Mode, but you could actually see inside of it.
The creature struggled about, snarling and growling but it was stuck. While it was moving, it could not move out no matter how hard it tried. We could not see any facial features from this monster, but we could see it had a large fangs in an equally large mouth just like the one from Yugi's nightmare. It roared as it continued to struggle, then a second time, which sounded like a mix between anger and pain.
Computers, scanners, etc. were connected to this platform; people were monitoring the status and conditions of this massive monster. Beeping of the computers echoed in the room.
"It's still not enough." Said one operator.
"It needs more Duel Energy." Said another operator.
"Rerunning all Duel simulations again." Said a third. When this one spoke, the camera shifts focus from them to another part of the room. Ya know how in Yu-Gi-Oh GX there would be multiple Duels at once in one room, all next to each other and on separate playing fields? Thats the best description for what was happening here, many Duelists armed with Duel Disks were engaging in Duels with an opponent, but in a controlled environment.
For whatever reason, Dueling and the energy it provided was an essential part of this operation.
The Masked King was standing before the giant beast, having a Duel Disk of his own active along with a single card on it (most likely belonging to the creature itself). Unlike an actual or standard Duel Disk however, this one had a similar style to his walking stick. The Duel Disk was heavily customized to have the appearance of bones, and the slots that popped out were also connected to bones and wires that were also customized to look like blood veins that connected to the main centerpiece.
He put a hand over the egg-like transparent shell protecting/imprisoning the beast, as in an affectionate way. "Patience, my pet, patience…" The Masked King spoke in a soothing voice to the creature, which surprisingly seems to calm it down a little bit. "She can't keep you locked up forever… soon, you will be free once again." The King promised.
"This is a complete waste a time…" said a voice, this one female, and behind the Masked King. The female was shown to be a young woman with violet eyes, lightly tanned skin, and shoulder-length light-blonde hair. She looked to be in her 20's or early 30's, and quite attractive for her age. She was also wearing a short black dress with an empire halter, which showed off all of her curves, and a necklace with multiple cross-shaped pendants.
"While using Duels to generate energy to override the seal sounded like a good idea, this has gone on for months, and your no closer to breaking him out than when we started!" Said the woman, her voice sounding condescending and arrogant. "This is why I said we should capture that stepdaughter of mine before she frees herself again!" She added.
"Oh… she won't be a problem anymore…" Masked King said, eerily. This did cause the other woman to look at him as he was stepping away from petting the creature. "In fact, her or any of her friends wouldn't be troubling us for quite some time."
"… What did you do?" The woman asked.
"Lets just say we… played a little game..." The Masked King kept his point vague. "I assure you, Gyokuro; Moka Akashiya will no longer be an obstacle." He added, also calling the woman by her name.
Gyokuro continued to stare at the Masked King for a bit longer. "… Regardless. We still need ample energy to crack this seal open. Which is why we were going to use her rosary and reverse engineer it."
"True… that seal had been keeping him in check all these years. Bloodriver spared no expense in its design," Masked King said. "But by using the natural energy monsters generate, and especially the kind when they fight alongside humans, we'll have no need for her or her necklace." He added.
When monsters fight or use their abilities or any forms of magic, they generate energy. Although it hasn't been seen for a long time until the recent popularity of the Duel Monsters game, they create a different form of this energy when involved in Duels and Shadow Games. It wasn't fully Yoki, and only manifested during said events with humans involved, so it was given a special term known as Duel Energy.
Basically, they were using Duel Energy as a workaround to break whatever seal was sealing the creature before them.
Gyokuro appeared to think for a moment on that. "… then why didn't we just snag that necklace from that human child?" She asked. "Why not just charm him, along with the spirit of the one who separated our worlds 5000 years ago?"
"Have you forgotten who that spirit is?" Asked Masked King, a little rudely. "Even without his memories, the magic of his Millennium Puzzle makes him a formidable adversary. In fact, his power alone sealed away the Dark One… something even the Dark Lords or the Egyptian Gods themselves couldn't do…" He added in a more serious tone, leading to a thoughtful silence between them. "Furthermore, any attempt to charm or enter his mind will result in even the strongest monster being lost, and forced to traverse the endless labyrinth of the puzzle itself. Brute force is out of the question, as many poor souls had fallen before the Pharaohs mighty power when trying to harm him or his host."
Gyokuro just continued to look at the Masked King. She didn't appear afraid at what he said, mainly just annoyed that it wasn't simple as 'bring person to them and use their power for their own benefit'.
Masked King then took a breath in. "But if you want to attempt to seduce him and get Mind Crushed, by all means…" He said in a tone that was heavily sarcastic, yet silly at the same time. Even behind that mask, Gyokuro could sense his face was giving her a mocking smile.
The creature behind them then began growling… that's also when a few alarms started going off, getting the attention of both individuals. Not only that, for some reason, the creature began roaring again.
"What's happening?" Asked Gyokuro. When she asked this, some of the operators began clicking away at keys to try and figure it out.
"A huge spike of Duel Energy has been detected." Said one operator. But seeing as none of the controlled Duels in the same building had that much of an impact, it was coming from somewhere outside.
"Pulling up Kaiba Corp's security network." Said another operator, already knowing what to do in this situation, and hacked or had access to Kaiba's security system.
"Data incoming. Putting on screen now." Said a third operator, directing everyone at their monitors to see what was going on.

Meanwhile, a few minutes earlier…
Yugi and Yami (Yami was currently in control) had to admit, this was one tough Duelist. They haven't Dueled since the Orichcalcos incident and while that did nothing to hinder their skills, this Duelist was still a formidable opponent.
"Now I'll discard 1 card to activate Raigeki Break!" Said the Duelist. He did as he said and upon discarding, he also activated a powerful Trap that may be weaker than the regular Raigeki, but it could target ANY card instead of just monsters. "Which will shatter your Swords of Revealing Light!" Thunder crackled around the card as its Effect activated, and a thunderbolt shot out of the Trap Card and struck Yami's Spell Card, destroying it. This now left his monsters vulnerable, and he gritted his teeth knowing an attack was coming.
"That one card I discarded happened to be Beiige, Vanguard of Dark World; who is automatically Summoned when its discarded to the Graveyard for any reason!" The Duelist explained and sure enough, a monster was Special Summoned to his side of the field. It was definitely a Fiend, having blue skin that looks like a muscles and seemed to wear bones. The spear it was carrying also appeared to be made from bone as well.
Seriously. There have been a lot of cards lately that were not only powerful, but cards most people have never seen before. It's almost like they came out of nowhere or everyone just happened to miss the advertisement from Industrial Illusions.
"Now Beiige! Attack his Obnoxious Keebler Swordsman!" The Duelist gave the order to attack, which the monster charged forward with its spear and attacked Obnoxious Celtic Guardian. Since Beiige had less than 1900 ATK points, it was able to bypass the Elfs 'cannot be destroyed by battle' immunity. Celtic was also in Attack Position at the time, so Yami did take a bit of damage.
"Don't forget about my Cracking Magic Card! When a monster is destroyed, that monsters owner takes 800 points of damage!" The Effect of the Duelists powerful Spell Card activates, for once per turn when a monster or monsters are sent to the Graveyard upon destruction, the owner of those monsters takes damage for each one. The cards art had what looked like tiny fish-like rockets, which exited the card and shot in a volley at Yami Yugi, dealing him even more damage. As a reaction, the Pharaoh covered his body with his arm, which did nothing to stop the effect.
The current Life Points were 1800 for the Unnamed Duelist, but now Yami Yugi had 1000. It was a very close game. One mistake could cost the other player the Duel if they weren't careful.
"Luckily for you, my Vorse Raider can't get over your Stone Solider, so I'll end my turn." The Duelist concluded his turn, giving Yami Yugi a chance to counter. For context, this person randomly challenged Yugi to a Duel. He was quite rude and cocky about it, which caused a crowd to form and was now watching the Duelists duke it out.
All Yugi had left was his Giant Solider of Stone and no other cards in play. He needed to draw something good. Believing in the Heart of the Cards like he usually does, Yami Yugi takes his Draw Phase…
Then, he freezes.
You know how the background goes negative sometimes when something involving magic happens? That's pretty much exactly what happened here, the exact moment the Pharaoh merely touched the next card he was about to draw next. He retracted his hand away, staring down at his Deck…
And whats up with that strange aura around the card?
'Wh… What is this?… This… power I feel?' Yami thought to himself. It was so bizarre. No, this was not him pulling a game changing single draw, that's a totally different feeling. This… he couldn't describe it in words.
'Pharaoh?' Yugi asked his counterpart, seeing him appear to hesitate.
"What's the deal with the Pharaoh?" Asked Tristan, making sure to keep his voice down so the crowd could not hear their conversation. But even if someone did, they probably wouldn't make much sense of it.
"Don't know… hate ta say he's breaking a sweat, but dis jerk has been playing a pretty good strategy." Said Joey. Téa didn't say anything but did look concerned.
"What's the holdup? Draw your card already!" The Duelist said, rudely and impatiently. Snapping out of it, Yami Yugi finally drew the top card from his Deck.
It was a Spell Card… but a very strange Spell Card, that both Yugi's couldn't help but stare at it. It was so odd to them as they've never seen this card in their Deck before, nor a card like it. For starters, its art appeared to look like some kind of rosary, its card name reflecting this with the name: Rosario Seal. It had a gemstone in the center of it, sort of reminiscent to the eye on Millennium Items.
But the strangest part… there was no text. No written lore or effect in the corresponding large text box. So what was the card even supposed to do?
Before they could question this card, both Yugi's saw a transparent image of a large head with fangs roar at them… it was that same monster again! The smaller Yugi couldn't believe it! He thought that was just a weird dream. This sudden action surprised the Pharaoh, causing him to drop the card…
In a slow-mo free fall, the card fell due to gravity… and ended up perfectly in Yami's Yugi's Duel Disk. Despite the fact it wasn't played in the correct spot, it still activated. This is where the holographic lights the Duel Disk emits got brighter than usual, and the holographic image of said card had appeared to the field, where it glowed and unlike most cards played this way… changed shape.
The card appeared to mold itself, the ends of it shrinking into a humanoid shape. The lights flashed to first show a short skirt of a school uniform; long, slender legs flashing into existence. The upper body did mostly the same thing, but with really long hair extending down the beings back. Finally, a red light appeared in the center of its chest, growing slightly brighter than the rest of the body before the very same rosary on the card appeared around the light-beings neck.
The lights exploded away… to reveal a certain pink-haired girl (Moka) had taken the place of the Spell Card, but had appeared with her eyes closed as if she was asleep. Everyone was in shock at the new monster the King of Games had Summoned, so where his friends, including the Kings themselves!
"What… monster is that?" Téa finally spoke up. Now she's seen some weird stuff for the longest time… a schoolgirl in a card game as a game piece that wasn't a dragon, magical girl, fairy, bug, bird, robot, undead, dinosaur, etc?… That was new.
"What kind of monster wears a school uniform?" Tristan answered a question with a question.
"I mean, Yuge uses a lotta monsta's, and… no clue." Joey said in an attempt to justify what had happened, but he was as stumped as everyone else. Although, it didn't bother any of them to admit; this monster girl was kind of cute.
The girl appeared to finally regain consciousness a bit, or had felt the breeze or smelled the fresh air or something, before slowly opening her eyes… what happened? Oh right, she had 'lost' a silly game from a masked man that came to their school; though that also made her recall the monsters that were running amok back then too. It made her worry for her friends, especially Tsukune.
'Wha… What happened?' She asked herself, which is also when the blurriness in her eyes disappeared, now seeing her new environment. The first things she saw were 2 monsters in front if her, Vorse Raider and Beiige, being A-Class and B-Class respectively.
That would be relatively normal if it wasn't for…
'Humans?' She asked herself, seeing the crowd of people that have gathered around the Duel to watch. It was here she panicked, knowing for an absolute fact there were no humans in the monster realm… well, there USED to be a full one, but he didn't count as he was technically half now.
Looking around, there were humans everywhere. Now she panicked further, as it was a violation of monster law to be in the human world unless you graduated or had a special pass… unfortunately, while Moka had a pass but it was left behind in her bag, she had neither of those things.
"Oh no… no. No, no, no, no, no!" Moka said out loud, frantically looking around some more mainly out of shock, which admittedly did get the crowd to react a bit.
"Wait what?"
"A talking monster?"
"That's cool!"
"She's pretty cute! Where'd he get her?"
Those were just a few things Moka heard, some positive to her appearance and some negative. She really wasn't paying any attention to that however, she was mainly trying to understand what the hell was going on. How did she get to the human world? Where was everyone else? Are they okay? Who was that Masked Man?
That's when she happened to look behind her… and noticed him. The King of Games himself! Yugi Muto! She could not believe her luck! If how he was in the video was true and also what Yukari had told them, then he'd probably be the best person to help her out.
However, due to his position and his active Duel Disk, it looked like she had appeared in the middle of one of his Duels, the spikey haired teen looking just as surprised to see her as everyone else, not that she blamed him. She didn't normally want to be rude, but had a feeling time was of the essence.
Though… why was there 2 of them? And one was transparent?
"Uh… Mister Yugi…" Moka said, ignoring that and trying to remain a little bit calm as she walked over to him. "… hi." She said a little awkwardly, though Yugi and a transparent one continued to look in shock at her. "Sorry to interrupt your Duel, but…" As she got closer, she notes something on his Duel Disk which made her freeze and widen her eyes.
Her… A card of herself was on the Duel Disk… just like Gin, Fang Fang and Haiji…
…
…
…
She could barely think straight… this wasn't happening… it couldn't be true. Looking around again, she eyed the crowd again, the field, and both Duelists… she came to the harsh truth and only logical conclusion:
She didn't just appear before a Duel… she was a part of it.
She didn't know how, but she was… she was a monster… in the game of Duel Monsters. "This can't be… I'm a…?" She asked herself out of shock, also looking down at herself. "And… why are there two of you?…" She added.
Both Yugis' still continued to look at her. Now a talking monster or one that attempted to communicate with them wasn't too shocking to them, its the fact she didn't seem aware she was a monster in the first place or at the very least had no idea how she got here. She was also able to see Yugi? Did that mean she could even see the Pharaoh when the roles reversed?
That's not all… they also felt another presence about her…
Moka shook her head. While she was very concerned and very confused, she'll worry about all that later. "Listen… there's been a huge mistake. I shouldn't be here! I haven't graduated with the others, our school was attacked, this guy in a mask…" Moka attempted to explain and while the boys listened closely and attempted to make sense of it, there was still a ton of questions.
Who was this girl? Obviously she was a real monster though strangely dressed in very human-like clothing, but a school? The school itself was under attack? A man in a mask?… That's not even mentioning that beast from the dream and now when he drew Rosario Seal!
The information was coming ridiculously quickly, but along with more questions. However at the moment, they were currently in a Duel, so the Yugis' couldn't help her right away until it was over. Plus, it wasn't like either Yugi would forfeit.
The Pharaoh looked down at the Monster Card that was a Spell a second ago… Moka Akashiya?… Was that her name? She was a Level 4 Monster, Zombie and DARK, and had an even stat line of 1800 for each value; very high-ranking for a Level 4 monster. She also had the frame of an Effect Monster, but just like the Spell that Summoned her, it was blank.
"Moka Akashiya?" Yami addressed her, which she looked right at him, confirming that was in fact her name. "… I'm not exactly sure what's going on either. But it does sound like you need help." Moka could feel her heart swell… it was just like the video! He actually wanted to help her, help monsters out, just like Tsukune! "But for now, I'm going to need your help to win this Duel." Yami continued.
Moka's face changed from still-somewhat nervous and concerned, to one that showed some resolve. That's probably how this works, and it only seemed fair. Since she was technically played, she had to be apart of the game.
Now while she has sacrificed her own well-being several times, Moka wasn't as much as a fighter as her counterpart, nor did she know of the actual rules of this game… but she will still try.
Yami figured he could at least beat over Beiige with Moka, as she still had more ATK points than it. He may not know her abilities at the moment, but her decent stats did put him in a good position. Before he could even declare his attack however, the other Duelist makes a play. Maybe a little too quickly, but he felt it was the right decision.
"I play my face-down Magic Card, Extra Boost!" The Duelist reveals his last face-down he had played a while before Moka showed up, which was a Quick-Play Spell. Its art had a warrior swinging his sword, but said weapon had an aura around it as it was swinging to strike. "Now for the reminder of this turn, all monsters on my side of the field gain ATK points equal to their DEF points!"
The Effect of the Quick-Play kicked in, all the unnamed Duelists monsters' glowed as their power increased far beyond Moka's. If she did attack right now, she'd be defeated. With a growl, Yami then Set 2 cards and ended his turn, unable to make another play. At least that last Spell Effect wore off by now.
"Alright! Vorse Raider, attack that pink-haired monster!" After drawing his next card, the unnamed Duelist enters the Battle Phase and tries to attack Moka. She dodges the first swipe, then its shown her and Vorse behind her running in circles, still slashing at the vampire. She was crying as well… it was kinda silly.
The Yugis' and their friends sweatdropped at this. "… yeah… real cute." Téa said. This new monster was a little weird. However as Moka kept running, she tripped and that's when Vorse Raider lunged at her, the poor vampire girl screaming in terror.
"I reveal my Trap! Dark Renewal!" Yami gets back into the game and flips up one of the cards he Set, and as he does, a coffin appears. Some kind of energy leaves the coffin as it opens up, targeting Vorse Raider as its in midair and stopping it's attack in its tracks. Moka sees she's no longer in danger with the attacker now frozen, but she got up slowly due to the fear of almost dying. The other Duelist grits his teeth, seeing his attack fail.
"It's automatically triggered when you attack, or Summon a monster," Yami explained. "Now I can sacrifice one of your monsters in addition to mine!" As he said this, his Giant Solider of Stone was also affected by Dark Renewal, then both monsters were sealed inside the coffin as it closed. "This will allow me to Summon a Spellcaster from my Deck or Graveyard. And I choose Dark Magician Girl!"
The coffin reopens and as if by magic, Dark Magician Girl appeared from it. She flew out and did a slow twirl, which did cause her hat to fall over her face, but she repositioned it with her hand, then tapped her forehead with her wand, posing and giving her giggle upon being Summoned.
Due to her mild stats, she normally would fall into the A-Class category; but as a student of Dark Magician and even learning a lot of things from him as well which included her own unique Spells and attacks, not to mention the bond they both share (referenced by her Effect); she was labeled as S-Class.
"But there's more; thanks to the Dark Magician you destroyed earlier on, she gains 300 extra ATK points!" Yami declared, which was very true. Dark Magician Girl was much stronger than she was normally. Moka was very surprised to see a fellow S-Class monster, and she was really beautiful in person.
"Grr… I switch Beiige to Defense Mode, and place one more card face-down." Said the Duelist. With no way to attack over Moka or the boosted Dark Magician Girl, he had to end his turn.
It was back to Yami Yugi, and it looked this could be the final turn of the Duel. After drawing his next card, he makes his next move. "Now! Dark Magician Girl, attack his Vanguard!"
Upon giving the order, Dark Magician Girl charges magical energy in her wand, and giving her battle cry, she attacks with a blast of magic that could in fact rival Ruby's. The Dark World monster stood no chance against the magical girls power and was defeated.
"And don't forget your Cracking Magic Card! Since you lost a monster, YOUR the one who takes the damage!" Yami pointed out. Sure enough, the Spell Card backfires and inflicts further damage to the opponent.
The unnamed Duelist had 1000 LP now, just like Yami so it was tied up, but he also ran out monsters to protect him. "NRGH! I activate Dark Wall of Wind!" In desperation, the unnamed Duelist activates his face-down. This card prevents damage from direct attacks, meaning if Yugi even tried to attack with Moka, the damage would simply be repelled.
Yami Yugi ended his own turn here. Even if he gave the order, Moka wasn't sure she'd be comfortable with attacking a human, especially how one in particular had treated her with nothing but respect.
When the Duelist drew his next card, he looked desperate to win like how Yami and Yugi do just before they beat the odds and draw the very card they need. Upon seeing what it was, he laughed out loud. "This Duel's over, Yugi! They'll be calling ME the King of Games!" He said. "I Summon Destiny Hero - Drilldark!"
Again, another monster Yami Yugi or his friends had never seen before. This monster looked sort of like Marik's Drillago, but more humanoid than machine, its right hand having a larger single drill than its other hand which had a drill for each finger. It even had the same ATK points funnily enough.
"And this monster has a very Special Ability indeed. When it gets Summoned, it allows me to Summon another Destiny Hero monster to join him, so here's another Drilldark!" The Duelist said, using the Effect of Drilldark to Summon a second one. "Oh; and this applies to my new Drilldark too, letting me Summon a third monster, which will be Destiny Hero - Celestial!" The Duelist now Summoned his third monster, which had the same ATK as both Drilldarks.
Celestial had a much different design. It was humanoid like Drilldark, but having normal hands and having a pair of wings modeled after a star constellation (hence the monsters name). Moka recognized them from study material regarding monsters beyond the stars, but haven't seen them in person until now. All 3 of these monsters were A-Class, and were rumored to not only have elemental counterparts, but could combine with others of its kind to form even stronger monsters, some even S-Class levels.
"Aw, no way!" Joey said.
"He just Summoned 3 new monsters at one time!" Bakura said.
"And now for my trump card!" The Duelist had 3 face-downs left, and the one on the left opened up to reveal an Equip Spell thats art consisted of two hands gripping each other in a handshake-like fashion, showing energy spark between them. "United We Stand!" This was yet another never-before-seen card. It wasn't just monsters apparently, even new Spells and Traps seemed to be popping out of nowhere. "This card is actually much like your Mage Power Magic Card. However instead of boosting a monster by each Magic or Trap I have, it increases my Celestials ATK by 800 points... for every monster I have out on the field!"
With the Duelist's explanation of his card, United We Stand took affect by targeting Celestial, it gaining 2400 extra ATK points from a single activation, making it the strongest monster on the field at 4000! If it attacks and it's a successful strike on either of Yami Yugi's monsters'... the King was going to lose his title.
"Attack, Celestial!" The Duelist ordered, but it wasn't clear whom he was targeting with this attack. Thankfully, Yami did have a face-down Mirror Force type card that was Set a few turns prior to Moka's appearance that could save him by clearing the board, but before he could activate it...
Celestial began glowing again, but it was for a different reason. "Huh? Celestial, why's your Ability activating?" For some reason, Celestials Effect triggered, which is when it attacks, a face-up Spell the opponent has would be destroyed and said opponent takes burn damage. But from what he could tell, Yami had no face-up Spells at the moment, so the Effect should not have a target.
Regardless, black energy shot out of the Destiny Hero, and it's target was Moka as the Effect targeted her from its POV and said vampire could only watch as it went toward her...
With a metallic snapping sound... her rosary came off. She was shocked at this and it showed in her widened eyes, as the only one who could physically take it off was her close friend and herself at one point (though that almost killed her). The Rosario clanged a few times on the ground as it was knocked off, where it simply stayed there.
Time seemed to slow down with Celestial still continuing its attack... and the Rosario's gem flashed to an open eye...
FLAAAAAAAAAASH!
The moment Moka's rosary was removed, a HUGE column of dark energy erupted from where she stood (this is also when the Masked King's cronies detected the energy spike from). The energy was so thick, no one could see the vampire anymore; the attacking Destiny Hero even stopped its advance as if in shock.
That's not all… bats also flew down from seemingly nowhere around her, surrounding the monster as well.
When the light finally died down, Moka appeared… different. Her hair was no longer pink, but sliver. Her nails also slightly grew, but that was only noticeable to those closer to her. Her body portions also changed; her hips, butt and bust also having increased. Finally, her green eyes had changed to blood-red with slits in them, giving her an intimidating yet also sensational appearance.
This was her transformed, much stronger half. Whom will only "awaken" when her Rosario is removed… Ura Moka.
The entire crowd, the unnamed Duelist, even Yami Yugi and the original Yugi were all completely taken aback. Not only that, the Yugi twins and even Bakura felt some kind of dark power coming from her. Yami happened to look down at the card that Summoned Moka originally, only to see it had changed a second time. Now it was more accurate to the new Moka standing on the field but like before, it had no written lore.
"What the…? How did…?" The Duelist asked, questioning what just happened to the monster he was attacking. Yami didn't use any cards or anything, so he wasn't sure what had just happened. However, the new Moka's stats popped up: 2500 ATK/DEF, and she was a Level 8 monster now.
'Hmm… 2500 ATK points?… Whatever! I can still beat him!' He thought to himself, then figured it was nothing to worry about. As his monster now had 4000 points, that can still beat over this stronger Moka. "Celestial! Finish her off!" He ordered his monster to continued its attack since replay occurred. Celestial flew towards its target, but its master saw no reason not to go for game.
The new Moka did not move at all…
POW!
…
…
…
Once again, everyone was in shock. When the Destiny Hero attacked by throwing a punch, Moka stopped it by raising her hand at blinding speed and catching the attack in her palm, the attacker visibly struggling to finish the attack or get free of the hold. Moka herself wasn't even flinching or appeared to have any trouble holding back the attack either.
"That's it?" Ura Moka asked, but she asked it in a very dry and sarcastic way like how Kaiba would. "You need to learn your place…" With that, Ura simply gave the opposing monster a hard kick, shattering it by game mechanics almost instantaneously. You could even see the shock in her eyes for a brief moment, but she ultimately didn't dwell on it. As she destroyed the opponent monster, new stats appeared…
Somehow… her ATK became 4900… Higher than Celestial's.
"No way…" said Tristan.
"Her ATK strength had gone up." Said Bakura, though there was currently no explanation for this. Of course, this left the Duelist with only 100 LP left… but that's not all, as his own Spell started to trigger again. If that hits, he'll lose.
"NRGH! I send Clear Kuriboh to my Graveyard which negates all non-battle damage!" The Duelist panicked, sending one of the last 2 cards in his hand to the discard pile. When he did this, a Kuriboh monster took the incoming Spell Effect for him, saving himself by the skin of his teeth for one extra turn. With no other plays, the remaining card in his hand being a monster, which he could not play since he had already Normal Summoned this turn, he ended his turn. "I… end my turn…"
Once the Battle Phase ended however, Ura's ATK strength went back to its original value, so however she got that boost only lasted one turn.
Yami Yugi drew his next card, and it looked like this was the final turn of the Duel. He honestly couldn't believe how powerful Moka was, out-classing a monster with such an impressive amount of ATK. Sure the other Duelist saved himself but if he didn't have that Kuriboh, Yami could have won.
However, before he could say or do anything else… he felt a disturbance…
The pouch on Yami's/Yugi's belt began to feel hot to him. Very hot. It was where he kept his best cards, which also doubled as his Side Deck. And after a few seconds; blinding lights of blue, red and yellow burst out of this pouch. All 3 Egyptian Gods appeared at the exact same time, giving their respective Summoning cries when released, and towered over the other monsters as well as the crowd.
The only difference was, they appeared on the center of the field rather than the Pharaohs side, apparently on neither side. It was an impressive sight to behold, the 3 most powerful monsters in one spot. Even Ura looked very intimidated. She was confident in her own abilities, which was also a personality trait of most vampires, but these were literal Gods.
'The God Cards!' Said Yugi in a surprised tone, now starting to feel a very creepy sense of déjà vu. Yugi's friends weren't sure… that was so unlike Yugi or the Pharaoh. Neither of them would even think to use the God Cards unless absolutely necessary, let alone against an opponent like this!
What followed was Ra charging a Blaze Cannon… aimed directly at Ura! Seeing this coming, she immediately jumped back to avoid the attack, but even then she still felt the scorching heat from flames that were as hot as the sun, and have been known to disintegrate absolutely anything they touch. Ura took a breath, adrenaline pumping through her veins.
"Look! I know I shouldn't be here, b-!" She tried to reason with them, which was a first from her as she usually just kick first (or after throwing a few insults) then ask questions later. Again… literal Gods.
Obelisk then attacked by pulling back his fist and slammed a powerful Fist of Fate, which sent REAL shockwaves upon impact, and the attack itself Ura barely avoided with another jump due to the Gods massive bulk and surprising speed for something his size. The sheer power of the Tormentor made the ground shake. Obviously, the Gods weren't in the mood to negotiate.
With a roar, Slifer was third to attack with his Thunder Force. Seeing the crackling electricity, Ura's eyes widened and she twisted her body to get out of the way, the Sky Dragon too missing his target. Instead, his attack blasted THROUGH a building, electricity sparking around the circumference of the hole it created, rubble also falling off… hopefully no one was in there…
People at this point started panicking. This was getting a bit too realistic for them, and they started getting away. "So Yuge Summons da God cards an attacks blindly?" Asked Joey, just repeating what his eyes were seeing, even if it seemed out of Yugi's/Yami's character.
"I don't think so." Téa said, unsure if that was entirely the case. Call it a hunch, but they've been through some crazy stuff.
Both Yami and Yugi were surprised. The Gods never acted like this before, least not without a good reason but even then, they never Summoned themselves and went on a rampage either. 'What's going on with them? Why are they attacking her?' Yugi asked, as this was very bizarre.
The Nameless Pharaoh was speechless. "… I… don't know…" He said.
The attacks didn't stop there, as when Ura landed safely from the last attack, Ra roared before getting a few extra feet backward into the air before entering it's unstoppable Phoenix Mode, speeding towards to vampire a few seconds after preparing the attack. As he rocketed forward, Ura Moka used her own speed again to evade as Ra continued onward. Once again she felt the intense heat that could very easily kill her even with her healing factor as a vampire and an S-Class monster.
Ra happened to fly over the face-down cards on the opponents field. Since he's completely immortal to other cards and effects in this state game-wise, those very same cards were set aflame before dissolving. It was an absolute miracle the opponents monsters weren't within striking range either.
Ura Moka had never looked so terrified, which she'd probably deny if she was ever confronted about it.
"STOP! STOP ATTACKING!" Yami Yugi ordered the God Cards, but they didn't listen at all.
Slifer then charged up a Lightning Blast in his upper mouth, and fired consecutive blasts one after another. Once again, Ura was able to dodge barely because of her speed from the Sky Dragon's deadly accuracy; but some balls of electricity ended up striking an opponent monster instead, destroying them by game mechanics due to Lightning Blasts Effect (as they had less than 2000 ATK/DEF points). One even hit Dark Magician Girl, but she was thankfully not destroyed thanks to the power boost she received from her teacher in the Graveyard.
That wasn't all… since he lost a monster(s) again, Cracking took affect again on the opponent, only this time its owner had no way to stop it. He was blasted by his own Spell, and sent him backward since 1600 compared to a tiny 100 was overkill.
The Gods continued to attack/try to destroy her with various attacks, but she barely evaded them and was clearly getting exhausted. Obelisk tried attacking her again, and would have gotten hit if Dark Magician Girl didn't take the blow for her. She unfortunately was not strong enough to overcome Obelisk, and was destroyed.
Yami couldn't allow this to go on, for someone could get seriously hurt. He had a face-down that could help, and it was still technically his turn.
"I switch Moka Akashiya to Defense Mode!" He announced out loud, turning Moka's card sideways. The very second he did, Ura (who was in the middle of running) widened her eyes and gritted her teeth. Her body began to shake for some reason, but despite that, she then quickly dropped down on one leg as if in a defensive position. It appeared she was fighting something before she inevitably complied with the order.
"Grrrr!…" Ura didn't understand what was going on, only now that a hologram of a card of herself was below her for some reason. She forced her head to look up, only to see the Gods before her. She attempted to move her body again, but for some reason her muscles would not respond. It couldn't have been fear, as she had been evading attack out of said emotion the entire time.
Regardless of that, the Gods saw she was now vulnerable, and all 3 of them began to attack at the same time. Again, Ura tried moving but it was still no good.
"I activate my Trap Card, Drowning Mirror Force!" Yami's last Set card revealed itself to show a type of Mirror Force card, its art having a beam (most likely an attack) being negated by a wave of water. "Now all monsters in Attack Mode are removed from the field, returning them BACK to their owners Decks!"
Once Slifer, Obelisk and Ra launched their combined power, a wall of water swirled in front of Ura Moka, but it was also shown water was directly on the battlefield as well. That's when the current got stronger and washed over the God Cards, pulling them down into a swirling vortex of water. Because Moka was in Defense Position, with her holographic card acting as a platform, she was unaffected, plus this Trap doesn't target a card, meaning it gets around the protection the Gods had.
The Gods attempted to fight the current, but it was technically fueled by their own power, so it was successfully activated and resolving itself. Obelisk was pulled down first, then Ra, then finally Slifer though due it his body length, he was still visible for a few extra seconds until he "drowned" with the other Gods.
The Duel was over… Ura felt herself panting… its been awhile since she has been backed into a corner like that. However before she could do anything else, her body began to glow and then she turned into a beam of light that was the same color as her Yoki, before zooming back into her card on the Duel Disk. Yami Yugi and his friends were the only ones to notice this happen as everyone else had already fled, and the opponent was unconscious.
Although, a card was shown in the Graveyard slot of the other Duelists Duel Disk… a Damage Eater, which negates all the damage one would take that turn when banished from the game while in the grave. It wasn't clear if it activated or not, or it had simply fallen out, meaning the outcome of the Duel could have gone either way had the Gods not interrupted when they did.
Yami Yugi took Ura Moka's card off the Duel Disk to take a closer look at it… just who was this Moka girl?
XXX
Back with Gyokuro and the Masked King, they were staring at what just occurred at what the screen had just shown them: all 3 Gods… Ura being attacked… everything. When the Duel ended however, the creature calmed down which only Masked King noted. Everyone else's attentions was on that Duel.
"…. You said… they wouldn't… be a PROBLEM!" Gyokuro was calm at first, but then yelled at him, more concerned her step-daughter was still around. "NOW! She's unsealed again! You know what's gonna happen that rosary's off her neck for too long! THAT'S why we needed it in the first place!" The older woman continued to rant, but the Masked King appeared to pay her no mind. "GRRRRRRR!… YOU! Where'd that stupid game take place?!" She singled out an operator by pointing to him after growling out loud.
Not wanting to see her anymore angry than she already was, the technician complied and quickly typed in stuff. "I-I-Its in D-Domino City." He said rather nervously.
Gyokuro calmed down slightly, but still looked ticked off. "… Find them… find those cards; rip them, burn them, I don't care." She gave a new order, then turned to leave. "I've have enough waiting arou-…"
She was cut off by Masked Kings hand grabbing her shoulder. She craned her neck back to him and while she could not see his face behind his mask… he appeared almost intrigued.
"… no… let them go…" he said, slowly walking towards the edge of the platform to see the giant monitor screen more closely after letting the woman go, knowing she would not do anything. "It works… better this way…" He added… he couldn't believe it. Why didn't he think of this before! This was perfect!
"In fact… it'll turn out better than either of us could have ever expected…" He added once more, before the camera ends on the computer screen, showing Yami Yugi staring down at Moka's card…
END OF CHAPTER.
Rosario Monster Card of the Day - Kurumu Kurono:
Full Card Name: Kurumu Kurono - The Charming Succubus
Status: Limited (one copy allowed per Deck. Is also the only copy to exist.)
Archetype: Yokai/Rosario
Monster Class: A
Type: Winged Beast
Attribute: Wind
Level: 6
ATK: 1900
DEF: 1500
Known Lore/Effect(s):
Is also a DARK Fiend-type monster (even in the Hand, Deck, GY or Banished Cards). You can only control 1 "Kurumu Kurono". Cannot be destroyed or removed from field by Trap Effects during the turn its Summoned. If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, you can inflict piercing battle damage. Once per turn, you can target 1 non Machine-type monster except this card: put 1 "Succubus Counter" on it (max: 1. If the target is face-down, flip it face-up. Flip Effects are not activated). If you do and that target was controlled by your opponent and had a Level less than or equal to this card, take control of it while you control this card, even if either card(s) gets flipped face-down ("Succubus Counters" remain on targeted cards even when flipped face-down). If you use this Effect and gain control of an opponents monster, you can choose to use the Zone it's occupying (your opponent cannot use Zones occupied by monsters with "Succubus Counters"). If this card leaves the field, remove all "Succubus Counters" on the field. If monsters with "Succubus Counters" gain a higher Level than this card, you lose control of them. If control of this card switches, its new controller gains control of monsters you control with "Succubus Counters". While you control monsters with "Succubus Counters", you can activate the following Effects:
•Once per turn during your turn (except during the Battle Phase), target 1 monster you control with a "Succubus Counter": reduce that targets ATK or DEF (your choice) by any amount and if you do, this card gains ATK equal to that amount until the End Phase (this ATK/DEF loss is permanent while that target remains on the field, even if it becomes unaffected by Card Effects or flipped face-down). If either value is reduced to 0 as a result, send that target to the GY.
•(Quick Effect) If this card is targeted for an attack or an opponents card or Effect: change the target to 1 monster you control with a "Succubus Counter".
Special Notes: Although requiring 1 Tribute to bring out under normal circumstances, Kurumu is a difficult Monster to deal with, even to veteran Duelists. She has decent levels of protection during the turn she's Summoned, being almost entirely immune to Trap Cards during that time. In addition, she's both a dual-Type and dual-Attribute Monster, making her slightly more versatile than others of the Yokai/Rosario Archetype.
Unlike most cards that gain control of Monsters, her control over them goes on for extended periods of time (her ability "Love Charm") that doesn't have an immediate downside such as Change of Heart, which lasts only one turn, or Creature Swap, where both players must offer up Monsters of their choice. It even bypasses the rules when Monsters "reset" upon flipping face-down, making it that much harder to regain control of lost allies.
She can inflict piercing damage to players (via her nails), which in itself is quite rare, but can also decide when to apply this damage. And with 1900 ATK, she is quite reliable in combat. But even if she faces a high ATK Monster, she can increase her own power by absorbing the ATK or DEF of Monsters under her spell (sucking out their Life Energy. A "Succubus Kiss"), giving her potential to beat over any Beatstick. Even when she cannot use this ability or its power boost runs out, those Monsters unfortunate enough to be caught by her "Love Charm" will defend her when she's in danger, forcing opponents to fight their own before they can even think of attacking her.
Despite all these traits that make her almost untouchable, she does have a few weaknesses. The strength of her "Love Charm" is tied to her Level, being 6 normally, meaning she cannot control a Monster of a higher rank than herself. High-Level Monsters or Monsters that have increased beyond her Level will resist and the Effect itself will ultimately fail. Furthermore, her stronger abilities require her to have Monsters under her control beforehand to be offered as a cost to use them. Should the opponent clear the board of her resources, use certain cards that interfere with her influence, and/or continuously Summon High-Level Monsters… it'll leave her options quite limited.
