A helicopter was flying through a city in a vicious storm, the pilot's goal was to get this family of six dogs out of the city and back to their owners, who had been separated from the dogs during the storm.
But as the pilot focused on flying, a thunderbolt struck the rotor of the helicopter itself, sending it on a crash course to the ground as the pilot tried to stabilize their helicopter, but to no avail.
As the helicopter came crashing down, the pilot wanted to curse at themselves as they noticed that they were on a collision course with a large oak tree, which spelled certain disaster for him and the pups on board.
"SHIT! Everyone brace yourself, this landing is going to get rough." The pilot yelled as the six pups braced themselves and closed their eyes.
While their eyes were closed, the helicopter made contact with the tree and burst into flames as it exploded, causing the tree to begin to burn down and then fall over as what was left of the helicopter landed on the ground, the metal of the aircraft twisted and burned as it melted together.
"Little Skye! Where are you?" One of the older dog's in the group of six shouted. Skye was the youngest and most recent addition to the family, and the other five dogs were already out of the helicopter and on safer ground.
As for the pilot, he was already dead. His head was slammed into the dashboard of the helicopter as he bled out, with glass from the windows of the helicopter lodged in his body and scattered around the cockpit of the helicopter itself. There was no reason to call help for him, his life was over. The family's focus had to be on finding Skye.
The family of dogs exited the burning helicopter as they scanned the field that they had crash landed in, trying to find Skye, but to no avail. The small cockapoo with pink eyes was nowhere to be seen from their perspective.
But inside of the helicopter, that cockapoo with pink eyes was trapped underneath a burning piece of metal, trying to squirm out from underneath it as she felt her fur burning up as the heat rose.
"M-Mommy, daddy? I-I need help." Skye whimpered out as she limped out of the helicopter, having squirmed out from the metal she was trapped underneath as she fell out of what was left of the helicopter, looking around the field to try and see her family. But no one was there, only the fire and smoke around her, and a small town in the distance, the one that they lived in.
Skye limped through the field towards their hometown as she cried, looking behind herself as the helicopter that was supposed to reunite the family of dogs with their human owners exploded once more, anything left of the helicopter melting as Skye continued to cry.
She was alone, and her family abandoned her. She was fairly sure of that, why else would they leave her in a burning helicopter to die? At least, that's what her consciousness told her.
"I-I need to find help, I won't let this be the end of me." Skye cried out as she shook these thoughts off, beginning to let go of the memories she had shared with her family as the feeling of being betrayed by her own family washed over the cockapoo with pink eyes.
The cockapoo limped back into her hometown as she felt blood spilling out of the wound in her left hind leg, feeling her strength begin to fade as she continued limping, walking even slower than before.
She managed to enter back into the small town as she looked behind herself, seeing smoke rise into the night sky from the field that she had limped out of not too long ago tonight.
As Skye limped through the hometown, she realized how silent the streets of the usually bustling town were. She held so many memories of her few years of living in this town, ever since she was born, but now the future was a lot more uncertain than it had ever been.
Her human owners were somewhere out in the world, if they were still alive, and the family of Cocker Spaniel's and Poodles she was born to had more than likely abandoned her, leaving her to die in the burning helicopter that was supposed to reunite them with their human owners.
At the same time, Skye knew it wasn't a good idea for the pilot to begin flying their helicopter in a storm like this, but at this point, it didn't matter anymore. Saying anything like at this point would just be blaming the dead for the crucial mistakes that they made while they were alive. And after all, what's done is done.
Skye continued limping as she tried to recall all of the happy memories she had shared with her family, but every time she felt herself latching onto one of the many truly happy memories, her consciousness tore it away from her, reminding her of how they betrayed her. She didn't want to believe it, after all she loved her family, and she knew that they loved her, but each and every time that her consciousness reminded her of how she was left in the burning helicopter, she found herself believing it more and more.
And after a few long minutes more of limping through the town, which felt like hours with her limp, Skye was only left with the trauma that was beginning to dig itself into her from what had happened, the happy memories of her and her family were gone, all but ash in her brain as she continued limping, unsure and uncaring of where she was going. Besides after everything she had just been through, what did she truly have left to live for?
That question was one that Skye didn't know the answer to, but surely there was something left in the world for her to live for, right? She also didn't want to think about that question right now, her mind was focused on getting her hind leg the medical attention it needed badly so that she wouldn't be limping everywhere.
Skye noticed a building on the side of the road that she was on, an automatic door opening in front of someone as they walked in front of them, giving Skye the idea of following them, she wasn't sure why, but she had a feeling that these people could help her and get her leg healed.
Walking behind the human, Skye tried to stay silent before the person turned around, noticing over as they put one of their knees on the ground, carefully petting Skye before noticing her limping leg.
"Oh no! You're injured, one second, I'll get help." The human said as they called for someone inside of the building, the two people picked the cockapoo up carefully as they brought her into an emergency room.
"H-Hey, easy, easy. You're going to be okay." Another human said as they rubbed Skye's back, carefully looking at her limping leg as Skye calmed down, allowing them to do what they had to do.
Skye felt the people near her continue to rub her fur as she yawned, her body closing her eyes as she rested on the small table, feeling that she was safe now.
"This one's really badly injured. Do you think she's orphaned? A lot of them have been turning up during this storm." One of the humans said as they noticed that the pup had fallen asleep, clearly exhausted.
"No idea, but one thing is for sure. They've been through a lot, do you see these burn marks near the cuts in the fur? This was caused by some kind of a crash more than likely." Another human said as they began to bandage up Skye's body.
"Wasn't there some kind of a helicopter crash nearby around thirty minutes ago?" Another one of the people tending to Skye's injuries asked as they rubbed the fur on the cockapoo's neck, keeping her calm as she began to kick in her sleep.
"There was, with the injuries this pup has sustained, I think they were involved in that helicopter crash. But where's this pup's family if that's the case?" One of the humans asked out loud as they finished bandaging Skye's wounds up.
Almost immediately after the three humans were done tending to Skye, the cockapoo woke up and stretched, she was still limping, but it was less than before thanks to the time she was able to rest it while being helped by the three humans.
And as Skye jumped off of the small table in the emergency room, she landed safely and began walking out, even with her limp, she wanted to look around the building.
"C-Can I go and look around?" Skye asked nervously as she looked up to the three humans, unsure if they would let her or not.
"Go right ahead, just be safe and take it slow, okay? We don't want that limp to get worse." One of the humans said softly as they rubbed Skye's head and ears.
Skye nodded as she left the emergency room, seeing a group of dogs laying down right outside of it, maybe they could all be new friends?
Deciding that she wanted to find out, Skye walked up to the group and laid down next to them, hoping that they'd accept her as one of them.
"H-Hi, I'm Skye. Is it okay if I lay down here, next to all of you?" The Cockapoo asked as she laid down, nervously expecting to not be allowed to lay down near them, even if that didn't make sense logically.
"Of course it is, Skye. Don't worry about it." One Border Collie said as they curled up next to the cockapoo, making sure they helped Skye stay comfortable in the animal shelter.
"I appreciate that." Skye said as she felt herself closing her eyes, relaxing next to the Border Collie and the other dogs as she yawned, her body was exhausted with everything that had happened, and the kind humans and animals at the shelter made her feel like she had something to live for now.
Meanwhile, Skye's family were desperately trying to find Skye in the area of the wreckage, but there was no such luck. And even more unfortunately, due to the rain, no tracks were left behind by Skye, so they had no idea where she had gone to, if she was still alive after the vicious crash.
"D-Dad, what should we do?" One of the pups asked as the family cried, they couldn't even pick up Skye's scent, and there was nothing substantial left of the helicopter that the family of pups had been in, at least not in one piece.
"We need to find shelter for this storm. We'll have to find little Skye later." The father of the family said as the other dogs nodded and ran away from the burning helicopter with heavy hearts and sad expressions on their faces. They could only hope that somewhere out there, Skye was okay and safe from this violent storm.
The remains of the helicopter continued to burn as the smoke and fire rose higher into the air as rain began to pour down, drenching the group of five dogs as they shook their fur dry and ran away, continuing to seek shelter from the storm with their fur messed up beyond belief with the mud, burn marks, blood stains, cuts, and more scattered around their once perfect fur coats. But that was by no means their focus right now, their focus had to be on finding shelter, and then trying to find Skye after the storm, their brains running solely on their survival instincts.
Fairly quickly, the five dogs found the house that they lived in with their owners and got in, finding that their owners had made their way back to the house from the other side of town, bringing a brief feeling of happiness before the humans gave them a confused look, realizing that the youngest pup of the six, Skye, was nowhere to be seen.
"Pups! You're all safe, but where's little Skye?" One of the humans asked, saying what both were thinking as they looked at the group of Cocker Spaniels and Poodles.
Rosie, the mother of the six pups responded to their owners, crying as she did so. "Our helicopter crashed, and little Skye went missing. We have no idea where she is now." Mabel said, crying as she shook her head, looking out one of the windows on the house as she wondered where little Skye was.
As the family was wondering where Skye was, that same Cockapoo was waking up from a small nap next to the other dogs in the shelter.
She didn't know what to do at the moment, as her brain was still trying to process everything gone, but she wanted to do something to make this terrible day at least somewhat more bearable.
But to the surprise of the Cockapoo, the humans that had brought her into this building suddenly came running in, holding a Dalmatian puppy with light blue eyes as they ran straight into the emergency room that they had treated her in as well.
For some reason however, Skye was finding herself staring at the Dalmatian, feeling things she had never felt before as she did so as she tried to snap herself back to reality. It doesn't matter if that Dalmatian is cute, we'll both just get adopted and we'll never see each other again. Skye thought to herself as she laid back down, deciding that just continuing to get some rest was the best thing she could do for herself. Until her stomach began to rumble. She hadn't actually eaten for an entire day, as the humans that were the owners of their family of dogs had been separated from them only around two hours after this storm that had been going on for two days now started.
"H-Hey, I'm hungry. Where do we go to get some food?" Skye asked the Border Collie near her, the same one who had told her it was okay to rest with the other dogs.
"It should be dinner time in around fifteen minutes, actually." The Border Collie answered as the door to the emergency room closed shut.
Skye looked over to the emergency room doors as she listened to the Border Collie talking, why was she feeling things she had never felt before in life when she looked at this Dalmatian. When she first locked eyes with his light blue eyes, she began to sweat in her paws, but didn't know why. She had never seen this Dalmatian before, and maybe never would again after he's eventually adopted from the shelter, just like all the other dogs here.
Around fifteen minutes later, a small bell began to sound off and each and every dog besides the Dalmatian in the emergency room was seen standing up and walking somewhere as a human opened the door for them.
As Skye walked through the door with the other pups, she realized that this was where they got food. The door was left open as they all went to their food bowls, Skye following suit as she went to a pink bowl with small helicopters on it before her eyes locked eyes on the small helicopters on the bowl, triggering a panic attack as she remembered the helicopter crash that had started all of this.
Skye brought herself down onto the tile floor of the room they were in, all of the fire and explosions running through her head once more as she remembered all of the blood that spilled out of her inside of the helicopter and the injuries that she sustained in general, and her consciousness continued to scream that she was abandoned as she laid down on the ground, placing her head in her front paws as she kept crying, panting as she tried to calm herself down.
Deciding that she would be better off not eating for now, having lost her appetite due to the panic attack, Skye walked out of the room as she just laid back down, wanting this day to be over.
She wanted nothing more than all of this to be a bad nightmare, and that she'd wake up next to her entire family in a comfortable bed, but that would be the case if life was actually fair. It isn't, so many people and pups go through similar things to what Skye has every single day of every single year, and does the world care? Absolutely not. The world kicks them while they're down, just in case it hasn't made their entire life and everything they held close in life goes up in smoke.
