Chapter 20: The Chamber of Hell
No Way Out 2008: Thomas & Mack Center - Las Vegas, Nevada, February 17, 2008
Sheree-Louise Huxley smiled as she walked into the main part of the arena, finding herself standing high in the stands at the top of the long stair-case, that went all the way down towards the floor-seats. It was hours before the Pay-Per-View started. The fans hadn't even arrived yet, and Sheree, like always, wanted to check out the scenery.
The young woman was wearing a plain black zipper hoodie, a white tank top and denim shorts. Calf-high boots covered her legs, exposing her slim thighs.
The stage had a very Las Vegas vibe, with the infamous 'Welcome to Las Vegas' sign suspended above the minitron. Except the words now said;
No Way Out
Las Vegas
Nevada
2008
Beside the minitron was the titantron, surrounded by light fixtures that resembled the demonic entity that resided inside the No Way Out Pay-Per-View.
On the other side of the arena, suspended high above in the air, was the large WrestleMania 24 sign in all its glory. But the main thing that caught Sheree's attention was the large, over 10 tons of steel monstrosity that was the Elimination Chamber, the black metal structure surrounding the ring like it had just swallowed it hole.
Sheree smirked at the sight of it and began to make her way down the stairs. As she got closer to the structure, she noticed Paul Levesque, Charlotte and her twin sister standing inside the ring, exploring the structure. Her goofy twin was standing inside one of the pods, laughing with Charlotte and one of WWE's senior officials Charles Robinson.
Sheree climbed over the barricade and looked up at the massive structure. A shiver ran down her spine as she lightly brushed her fingers against the black steel chain-link. Every time she saw this circular structure, she could never suppress the cold tingle that crawled all over her body. It both excited and terrified her.
"Hey! Sheree!"
Sheree lifted her head to see Jenna smiling at her from inside the chamber, now out of the pod. "Get in here!"
Her twin sibling was wearing a black 'Texas Venom' long-sleeved top, jeans, and a pair of black Chuck Taylors.
Charlotte was sitting on top of the turnbuckles opposite the timekeepers area, wearing a black leather fur jacket, a white low-cut tank top, black skinny jeans and black ankle-high heeled boots that was decorated and fastened by gold chains.
Sheree walked up the steps, looking around in curious wonder as she stepped into the chamber, her calf-high boots clicking noisily against the steel chain-link flooring.
Paul waved at the young brunette as she stepped through the ropes and into the ring. "You ready for tonight?"
"You bet!" Sheree replied with a bright grin.
"She's been unable to sit still all day," Jenna commented with amusement.
Paul leaned his muscular frame against the ring ropes, his long dirty blonde hair held up in a single ponytail, a grin of amusement on his face. "You would be the same way too when you have a big match with high-stakes like Sheree does."
Jenna chuckled. "I guess you're right."
Paul studied Sheree silently, watching as her blue eyes took in every inch of the chamber with child-like nervous wonder. "It's intimidating isn't it?"
Sheree looked at Paul and nodded with a smile as she glanced around. "Yeah... but I can't help but feel a rush of excitement whenever I see this thing."
"I hear ya," Charlotte commented with a grin. "When this thing first came out all I wanted to do was wrestle in it. It's a chamber of hell. It's frightening and evil. But that just makes it even more enticing!"
"You're crazy," Jenna retorted flatly, making Charlotte laugh.
Sheree looked back at Paul with an excited gleam in her blue eyes that made him frown. He knew what she was going to ask. And he hoped she didn't. But knowing the kind of woman Sheree was, he knew she was going to ask him anyway. And he knew she wasn't going to like his answer.
"Do you think us women will be allowed to wrestle inside Elimination Chamber someday?"
"No."
Paul sighed at the look of disappointment that split Sheree's previously excited facial features. He didn't want to say that. But it was something she had to hear.
Charlotte threw her hands up in irritation, rolling her eyes, as if she had heard this reply before. "Oh come on Paul!"
"No," Paul repeated, a sterner edge to his voice. "It's too dangerous."
"Are you saying we can't handle it?" Sheree questioned, a look of hurt on her face.
Paul sighed heavily. "No... girls... this thing hurts. I mean really really hurts."
All three women fell silent as Paul ran his hand through his hair. "I nearly killed myself wrestling in this thing. The roof is so low we can hardly jump off the pods. That's how RVD crushed my throat. And it's bad enough that we take bumps on mats with very little give. But solid steel?!"
The 6-Time WWE Champion shook his head. "Sometimes I regret creating this monstrosity. We wanna entertain the people, but not at the risk of our own safety. Nothing is safe in this hellhole of a chamber. Every year we do this, and every year we come out in pain."
"And yet, you're about to compete in your fourth Elimination Chamber Match."
Paul looked towards the entrance, frowning as Jay glared at him, entering the demonic structure.
The young redhead from Atlanta wore a black and white flat-brim 'Minutes to Midnight' Linkin Park snapback, a black 'Metallica' muscle top, cut-off denim shorts, and black knee-high criss-cross lace heeled boots.
"Hey, I wanted WarGames," Paul replied defensively, rolling his eyes. " But the old man was adamant on 'not copying WCW.'
Charlotte chuckled at his reaction. It was obvious he still wanted to do WarGames, and was still a bit miffed that he couldn't do it.
"Don't worry buddy. You'll get your WarGames someday," Charlotte commented, patting his shoulder in mock reassurance. Paul simply grumbled in response.
"You wanna talk about safety..."
Paul lifted his head, frowning as Jay glared at him. From the look in her light brown eyes, Paul could tell she wasn't backing down from this.
"... Yet you're still blading, as well as giving and receiving unprotected chair shots to the head, like that ain't gonna impact your health in the long run."
The chamber fell silent as Triple H flinched, before glaring at Jay, who didn't back down, glaring right back at him. Sheree and Jenna exchanged nervous glances, suddenly feeling incredibly awkward, while Charlotte released a small sigh.
Triple H stood up straighter, his eyes narrowed as he stared down the woman. "Jay-"
"Save it," Jay cut him off, her tone cold and icy. "Don't preach to us about safety whilst doing the exact same things that has put others in permanent retirement or worse."
Charlotte winced visibly, watching as her close-friend stormed out of the chamber. Paul watched the redhead leave with an emotionless mask on his face. It was rare for Jay to lose her cool or get angry, but when she did she really didn't hold back with her words.
"I'll... err... I'll just see if she's okay," Jenna said, before taking her leave, chasing after the redhead.
"She has a point," Charlotte couldn't help but say. Jay was unnecessarily harsh, but still... Paul sighed and looked at a silent Sheree.
"I'm not saying that you can't handle it," he said. "I just don't want you girls going through the same pain us guys have to go through every year."
Sheree frowned at that, restraining herself from retorting to that comment, knowing he meant well. We already do though.
With that, Paul made his way towards the entrance, Sheree and Charlotte watching as he stepped through the ropes and out of the ring. He paused as his heavy boots clicked against the chain-link floor. "I'm not saying it won't happen."
Charlotte and Sheree perked up at this. Paul looked back at them, a small smirk on his face.
"Maybe when the old man finally decides to make this thing safer for ALL of us. But for now... no, women won't be competing inside the Elimination Chamber."
. . . .
Later that evening: No Way Out ON AIR
Earlier today: No Way Out Exclusive
Mike Adamle rushed to the entrance of the parking lot with a cameraman following behind him, hastily speed-walking towards Sheree Louise, who was walking down the entrance ramp that led to the underground car park, pulling along her black suitcase.
"Sheree! Sheree do you have a moment?!"
The Headstrong Diva slowly came to a stop, a look of faint annoyance on her face. A look that went completely unnoticed by the interviewer.
"Sheree, we are just a few hours away from your huge match against Victoria. We were wondering if you have heard Victoria's recent comments about you on-"
"Comments?" Sheree replied with an icy smile that made Mike stiffen a bit, having never seen that kind of look on the woman's face. "Comments huh? Is that what that little tantrum on WWE .com was?"
"Are you talking about when she said, I don't have what it takes to be a champion?" Sheree questioned rhetorically. "That I'll never be champion? That I don't have killer instinct? That I'm just like everybody else. A cheap plastic barbie doll, chasing her 15 minutes of fame."
Sheree's blue eyes blazed with anger, looking away from the man for a moment.
"You know what?" she growled through her teeth. Sheree ran a hand through her shoulder-length brunette locks and leveled Mike with a glare, the wild gleam in her blue eyes making Mike gulp. "I'm sick and tired of hearing everyone's meaningless opinions!"
Mike jumped at Sheree's outburst, eyes wide. Her outburst roused the crowd, getting a large round of applause from the Las Vegas fans.
"I'm done being taken advantage of!" Sheree growled. "All the crap I've had to put up with for two years, all the bullcrap, it ENDS tonight!"
Sheree paused to collect herself, breathing heavily in barely-restrained anger as the fans applauded her fire and new-found aggressiveness.
"If Victoria really wants to be champion that badly... if Victoria wants what I have earned, wants what I've sacrificed my own body for!" the brunette snapped, a deep angry frown on her face. "Then I dare her to come try and take it from me!"
"Care to elaborate?" Mike asked, gulping as Sheree glowered at him with a fiery gaze of determination and rage.
"After everything that... that woman has put me through," the brunette Bostonian growled through her teeth, curling her fingers into a tight fist of anger, a wild gleam in her blue eyes. "I don't think I could look any of the women in that locker room in the eye, if I was to lose to Victoria here tonight."
The Headstrong Diva stared a hole through the interviewer, pinning him down and forcing him to stare into her intense blue eyes. "If I lose to Victoria tonight, then I don't deserve to face Melina or Tara for the WWE Women's Title at WrestleMania!"
"So if Victoria really believes she deserves this more than me, then I'll put my championship match on the line against her tonight!"
"W-What?!" Jim Ross exclaimed in shock, the fans crying out in surprise at Sheree's bold challenge.
"IS SHE SERIOUS?!" Jerry "The King" Lawler added.
"No, Sheree no!" Jenna groaned in despair.
"Now we'll see who wants it more," Sheree spat, stern conviction in her tone. "Me... or her."
With that Sheree took her leave, storming through the underground parking lot, Mike watching her leave with wide eyes, speechless and shocked by her challenge.
"Sheree has laid down the gauntlet!" JR cried out. "The stakes has just been raised, with a lot on the line!"
"What is she thinking?!" King exclaimed. "She may have just- whoa, uh-oh..."
The crowd booed at the sight of Victoria standing backstage, staring at a tv monitor with a huge smirk on her face, shaking her head in amusement.
"Victoria..."
The short-haired woman snapped her head in Mike's direction, making him incredibly nervous as her smirk widened viciously.
"Later, you will go one-on-one with Sheree Louise," the interviewer noted. "And as we just saw, Sheree has raised the stakes. It was made official by RAW General Manager William Regal a bit ago. The WWE Women's Championship Match at WrestleMania, is now on the line. Your thoughts?"
A sneer spread across Victoria's face, a low evil chuckle escaping past her lips as the fans in attendance gasped at the announcement. "This is why I said this kid doesn't have what it takes to be a champion. Only a fool would put something this important on the line."
The veteran shook her head, a grin of amusement on her face.
"She should just forfeit her title match to me right now." Her grin was suddenly replaced by a frown. "Because if she thinks I am losing to her now, she is in for a rude awakening!"
The woman yanked Mike's microphone out of his hand and glowered into the camera, a dark snarl curling along her lips.
"Do you hear me brat?!" Victoria snapped into the microphone, a wild gleam in her eyes as she ran her hands through her two-tone short-length locks, pulling on them. "You step into that ring tonight and I will destroy you!"
With that, Victoria shoved the microphone back into Mike's hand and stormed away.
"Wow," King breathed. "Victoria is crazed! Sheree is all kinds of fired up! These women ain't messing around. Something's got to give tonight!"
"And it certainly will," Jenna replied. "I still can't believe Sheree is taking such a big risk!"
"Well we'll see that match later on tonight," JR added as the titantron showed Melina walking down the corridor with a dark look on her face, her Women's Title tied securely around her waist.
"Cuz up next, another pair of women are about to do battle. Melina defends the WWE Women's Championship against Tara Stone for the third time, but this time No Disqualifications, no count outs, anything goes!"
And there you have it! The first chapter back, and we are starting off with NO WAY OUT! I'm so excited for this! I'm ahead on chapters so that's a plus too! I'm glad to be uploading chapters for this story again. And I hope you're all excited for it too!
