What I think actually happened to make the story of Shadow the Hedgehog more compatible with epilogue?

After the defeat of the Meterax, Sonic and his friends return home, relieved to finally be back where they belong. However, their respite is short-lived as new adventures beckon. With peace restored, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and the rest of the gang find themselves facing fresh challenges and foes. Sonic's back in style! So watch out... For Sonic X!

Whisper and Tangle head to one of Eggman's old defunct bases, and Tangle accidentally activates an old artifact, sending Whisper alone sometime into the future. She has to rely on her wits, her wisps, and the echoes of the Restoration to try to make it back to the past, and right what once went wrong.

From one team to the next it feels like. But will it ever end?
