The Gathering: Wolves from Other Worlds

Reality is composed of many universes and dimensions which fill up the vast void of non-existence, an endless ocean of darkness.

No matter how many times he had entered this space before, he felt the coldness, the frost that settled on his purple cloak.

He looked up, seeing the faint sources of light, which seemed to appear as fireflies would in the night sky. They represent the universes under his protection… the reason he was taking this gamble.

He extended his hands, which glowed in ethereal silver light, radiating power and magic in this soulless void. His cloak blew backwards, revealing his true form, which was identical to the very threat he was trying to stop… the evil warrior in purple armour, the Knight Wolf.

In his universe, he was one of the original mystics, who never betrayed his team despite the Master trying to coerce him with promises of power and threats of destruction. After his death in the mortal plane, he ascended to the Morphin Grid and was given the choice to carry on his duties on a grander scale, to protect all worlds instead of just one realm… to be a Morphin Master.

He got abilities beyond compare and looked into other worlds, surprised to find that his universe was an anomaly. In most worlds, his counterparts turned to the darkness and in their lust for immortality, became everything they had once stood against and eventually became little more than demonic spirits, before being destroyed by the Power Rangers.

He might share his armour, powers and even his name, but he was the only Koragg who did not submit to the darkness.

And seeing the threat unleashed by one of his counterparts, he felt responsible to put an end to it before it devoured that world and many others, even if it meant subtly going against the codes the other Masters had established.

He asked the warriors of the Spirit Worlds to send message to the ones who could stand up, but it wasn't enough. They needed more help… an entire pack.

With his staff, he could have easily brought forth the wolf warriors from other worlds, but that would have surely caught the attention of his colleagues and worse, his cosmic powers might have caused a fracture in the time space continuum, which was why instead of using his own powers, he was channeling the powerful yet mortal magic of the Gatekeeper.

Master Koragg watched as the light shot out like comets, blazing through the darkness, seeking out the champions and smiled underneath his helmet.

His work was done and he promptly disappeared from the void, returning to the Grid.

Year 2023

Mumbai

A battle raged on as a lone pink ranger fought against demon hordes.

Her helmet was modelled after that of the wolf. A golden medallion of the creature was sewn in her suit, over her sternum. She wielded a pair of golden gauntlets and a matching ribbon across her waist.

Her suit resembled the kurtas worn by those of Indian heritage. Her pink robe extended past her waist and was followed by a pair of white pants, giving the semblance of a skirt.

Claws of steel protruded from her gauntlet as she slashed through her enemies. She sped through the armies of Ashura foot soldiers, her claws tearing them apart in bursts of pink light.

She heaved a sigh after the last one fell and the civilians who were hiding behind rubble burst into spontaneous cheer.

However, she felt a sudden alarm as a jet of silver light burst out of nowhere and slammed into her chest. It was not painful but at the same time, she felt herself being forcefully whisked away to another place.

Earth 1

Year 2029

In a different time, the battle against the forces of evil continued.

As a lupine monster appeared in front of the Ocean Bluff Zoo, families who had been looking to spend the Sunday with their kids broke into panic, either quickly fleeing into the museum or running the opposite direction. Amidst the chaos, a group of five people ran out of the building and faced the monster.

As the last of the civilians vanished, they activated their wrist held morphers and raised their arms to the skies, letting the power wash over them.

"It's Morphin Time!"

"Red Shark!"

"Grey Wolf!"

"Brown Hawk!"

"Green Deer!"

"Orange Tiger!"

In a flash of coloured lights, they transformed into the Feral Fury Rangers and charged at the monster, who snapped his fingers and an army of white skinned muscular creatures with green crystals jutting out of their bodies at various places appeared between them.

He laughed as the rangers were overwhelmed by his minions, and turned his gaze on his target – the grey ranger, who was fighting in a different style than the others. She lashed out with a flurry of quick punches and kicks, easily fending off the creatures before meeting his eyes and charging at him, while he did the same but seconds before they clashed against each other, a beam of silver light grazed past him and enveloped the ranger, teleporting her away and once again, taking away his chance at glory.

He let out a howl of rage, quickly teleporting away himself, while the other rangers looked at each other, baffled at the strange turn of events and the disappearance of their friend.

In most universes, Tommy Oliver became the greatest force of good to ever exist but in some, he became the villainous Drakkon who razed the planet to the ground. Earth D-12 was one of those dimensions, where despite the defeat of Drakkon and his master Lord Zedd by the Resistance, many parts of the world were still under the control of monsters and human soldiers and loyalists who had sworn allegiance to the United Alliance of Evil and moreover, these forces still maintained a stronghold on the Citadel that held the generator that harnessed the energies of the stolen power coins to empower the ranger sentries.

Armies of warriors wore militaristic armour derived from those of the original power rangers and powered by their stolen power coins marched through the city of Stone Canyon. Pedestrians and vehicles alike stood still like figurines, paralyzed by fear while those in home peeked through the curtains.

While their city was nearest to Angel Grove, for the most part, they had escaped the conflict by surrendering to the new regime, but the presence of the Ranger Sentries in broad daylight meant that things were about to change.

Their leader, a red sentry fired their blaster to the air.

"We have reports that the Resistance has set up base in this city!" He declared; his voice magnified. "By order of Lord Drakkon, we will search every inch of this city, every home, every alley, and every corner of every building till the perpetrators are found. Citizens are encouraged to comply, if they resist, they will be arrested for treason."

A wave of fear blanketed the city.

A city-wide raid.

Similar "investigations" had been conducted in other cities like Charterville and Crossworld City, an excuse to loot the people of their valuables, trash their homes.

It was a declaration that they had no freedom… that they were not safe, even in their own homes… that they belonged to Lord Drakkon.

"Stop right there!" Everyone looked up to see a team of three rangers standing on the rooftop of a building. It was difficult to see who they were, but they wore red, blue, and yellow.

There had been rumors of new rangers being part of the Resistance but none had believed it to be true.

This was bad… Worse than if they had been raided.

Even if these rangers succeeded in defeating these troops, Drakkon's forces would obliterate them to send a message.

The sentries armed their long-range rifles at the rangers, only for a dagger to roll out of nowhere and slice through their weapons.

"Not so fast." A blue ranger said from behind them, catching the dagger.

He wore an armour like the original rangers of Earth much like the sentries themselves, but his helmet resembled that of a wolf instead of a triceratops.

"Drakkon's regime ends today." He declared.

"You… Traitor!" A black sentry yelled, recognizing him as a former high-level sentry, Ritchie Mendoza, who had betrayed them and contributed heavily to the destruction of both Zedd and Drakkon.

He snapped his fingers, and the rangers on the rooftop vanished in a puff of smoke.

"Illusions!" One of the sentries called.

Another smirked.

"Less work for us. Our master will be highly pleased when we gift him a new power coin." He said, taking out his lance.

The blue wolf ranger chuckled, as if he knew something they did not.

At that very moment, their armour and weapons vanished, leaving them in grey military uniforms.

"Not so smug now, are we?" The blue ranger asked.

The sentries looked at each other in bafflement.

"What sort of trickery is this?" They asked, before the ranger lunged at them, becoming a blue blur, as he used his ninja streak ability, quickly knocking them out with punches and kicks.

The citizens watched in amazement and hope as the blue ranger stood before a heap of unconscious bodies.

"We are liberating our home. If their powers went out, it means that our mission to retrieve the stolen power coins was successful." He announced, motioning to the other civilians. "Drakkon's forces can't hurt any of us anymore."

A couple of police officers exited out of a van and headed towards him, unsure of what to do. Under Drakkon's regime, any ranger was to be arrested or gunned down at sight and while the cops left those duties to the sentries, any transgression on their parts could mean death not just for them but their families as well.

"Are you sure?" One of them asked.

"I am." He assured them. "If you do not believe me, you can contact other cities. The Resistance has been planning this for months. While the sentries were busy tracking down false leads in different cities, the Resistance struck Drakkon's citadel, reclaiming the power coins and taking down the Sentries as well as hopefully take out Drakkon himself."

"That's unbelievable…" The cop gasped.

"Officers, maybe you can take care of things from here and arrest these former sentries." He told them. "I have to see if my teammates need help."

The officers nodded.

The blue ranger pressed his communicator and was whisked away by a beam of blue light, though mid transport, he felt something collide against him.

He saw his body rematerialize in someplace else. All around him was darkness… It was as if he was in outer space, except there were no planets or stars. In the distance, he saw a purple figure flying in the distance and other figures, all in different colours, hovering near him like planets around a sun, but what perplexed him was that all their bodies had a silver outline.

Were these people other rangers?

He looked down to see a layer of silver energy outlining his body as well.

Before he could decide what to do, he saw all the other rangers vanish one by one in a flash of silver and soon felt himself being enveloped by the silver light as well.

Earth 217

Year 2017

A duo of rangers with crystalline armour and a pale purle diamonds emblazoned on their chests fought against the armies of golems that swarmed all over the city.

"You will not win, rangers! The Zeo Crystal will finally be mine!" Their opponent, a woman in brown armour gloated victoriously.

Above them, a giant golden gargoyle towered over them, fighting a similarly sized robotic being.

"You really need to come up with a new catchphrase!" The pink ranger shook her head, smashing a golem to pieces with her elbow before executing a flip and obliterating another two with powerful kicks.

The blue ranger charged past her, the crystalline armour extending from his arms to form long blades, which he used to cut through the golems.

"Whoa, way to go, Blue!" The pink ranger cheered, before leaping at the golems charging at her, crystals shooting out from her body like darts, piercing through the golems' heads. She watched with grim satisfaction as the golems promptly collapsed.

"Ready to give up, Rita?" She asked the villain, who glowered at the two rangers, after seeing how easily they took out her army.

"Never!" She vowed. There was a crash and she saw the golden giant on the ground and the megazord pummeling it with its fists before raising its sword for the killing blow.

She snapped her fingers and the gargoyle vanished in a shower of golden sparks.

Rita turned to the rangers.

"We know, you will be back. This is not over. We got the memo the last twenty times you told us." The pink ranger snarked.

The witch huffed before slamming her staff on the ground and teleporting away.

The other rangers teleported besides them as their zords returned to the holding bay.

Before they could celebrate another victory, a silver beam streaked past them and struck the blue ranger.

"Billy!" The red ranger yelled as the other rangers ran at him right before he disappeared in a silver flash.

Earth V-23

Year 2023

The last thing Adam had expected when he had signed up for being a ranger again was finding love. Well, the second last thing at least. His new ranger form being the size of a small puppy and looking like a Chibi figurine would be the most bizarre thing that ever happened to him in his entire life.

But being with Maya and of course, saving the world made it worth the jokes his former teammates pelleted him with on seeing his new ranger form.

It was not all that bad. He could use his morpher to take on the forms of the black rangers that preceded him, not unlike the Super Megaforce team, though his powers were far more ancient and primal than the 'legendary' ranger keys forged by Gosei. Dr. Zaskin theorized that the avatar gears could have been the prototype for the ranger keys used by the self-proclaimed disciple of Zordon.

Till now, their team was not complete. It was just him, Maya, and Justin.

While their research team had uncovered another ranger gear and Dr Zaskin and the other scientists at Silver Guardians HQ had forged Morphin Blaster for it, the gears were tuned to the energy signatures of specific individuals, a more extreme case than what was seen in the dino gems… The power had literally chosen who was to wield them.

With help from Billy, Hayley Ziktor and other scientists including Solon, the mysterious cyborg dinosaur that aided Tommy and the other Dino Thunder rangers against Mesagog years ago along with the Red Dino Fury ranger, they had been able to develop a software that used the Morphin Grid to scan for those who were to wield the last two gears. When the scans came negative all over the planet, Adam had asked the scientists to conduct the scan over a wider range… all over the universe.

After all, Maya had been on Mirinoi when she received her gear.

The results came out to be surprising, to say the least…

The energy signature of a man he had met in his early days as a ranger several decades ago, popped on the screen… Prince Dex of Edenoi. After his adventures on Earth as the Masked Rider, he had returned to his own planet as its rightful king and helped in its restoration, later abolishing the title of king, and setting up a monarchy as well as passing on his Masked Rider powers to one of his protégés. He was the one destined for the pink gear.

That was where Tommy came in, going on a mission to recruit Dex to their cause and something told Adam it will not be long till the fifth gear would also unveil itself and his team would be complete.

They had very little idea of the threat they were supposed to face but considering that their powers would easily surpass that of any other ranger, despite the disadvantage that they could only hold their morph for certain amount of time, it was obvious that their enemy would not be easy to beat.

Adam felt Maya squeeze his arm as if she sensed his worry. In their short time together, he discovered that she had a knack for knowing almost everything though she was certainly not a telepath.

They continued their stroll down the Angel Grove Park, one of the few places with enough greenery in the city to remind Maya of her home. Adam knew what they had could not last forever.

After their mission was over, Maya would return to her home and Adam would stay on Earth. He could have boarded Terra Venture years ago but he had chosen to stay behind. He had visited Edenoi and even gone on a few missions off planet, but he would never leave Earth… not permanently.

Maya deserved someone who would devote their entire life to her, and that could not be him, no matter how much he wanted it.

He had found a peace in his relationship with her, which was unlike any of his previous relationships. She understood him even when he stayed quiet, especially when…

Furthermore, she was a warrior and a ranger like him and did not ask him to leave the ranger life behind.

His relationship with Tanya had soured because he could never say no to any mission. They had fallen in love when they had been in high school but they had become different people over the years. Adam had tried his best… Both had tried to deny the fact somewhere down the line, they had fallen out of love also.

They still stayed in touch and remained good friends but it did not make it any less painful.

Adam knew what he was… Unlike others, being a ranger was not a phase he grew out of after passing the torch to the next team… It was his calling… his identity.

Sometimes, he wished it was not, but in the end, nothing felt as right as being a ranger did.

Maya rested her chin on her shoulder, as if telling him it was okay.

And in a way, it was.

They might not be together forever… But they were together now and Adam would be damned if he didn't treasure every minute of it.

Just then, Maya stopped walking and her grip on his arm tightened.

"What's wrong?" He asked.

"I feel something…" She murmured, looking up at him, her eyes wary.

Just then, the wind stopped blowing and the air in front of them shimmered.

Adam was ready to take out his morpher, but before he could, a portal opened before them in a burst of silver energy.

"It's here for you." Maya said strangely. "The spirits… they need your help."

"What do you mean?" he asked bewildered.

Before he could reply, he felt his legs leave the ground as if he was weightless and his body seemed to be drawn to the portal, the only thing stopping him from being sucked into it was Maya's grip on his arm.

"It will be okay." She smiled at him, before giving him a quick yet passionate kiss on the lips and letting go. "I am there on the other side."

"What the-" Adam blurted and he drifted backwards into the portal. The last thing he saw before everything became covered in a blinding silver light was Maya smile at him as if she knew something he did not.

Earth 195

Year 1995

Billy winced, wriggling his fingers off the purple ooze after he punched the oozeling that had tried to sneak up on him from behind.

He sighed, taking a fighting pose as he saw the group of Z-putties, tengus and oozelings that surrounded him. After Ooze's defeat, Rita and Zedd had sent Goldar and Mordant to collect the discarded bottles of "Ivan's Ooze" scattered across all the dumpsters and junkyards in Angel Grove as part of their punishment for betraying their overlords. Though they carried only a silver of Ivan Ooze's magic and powers, it carried enough of the morphological being's essence for the space sorcerers to use it as a fuel for the creation of a new army of Oozelings and tengu warriors, who were all subservient to them, much to the rangers' dismay, since they thought that they would never have to fight the disgusting purple creatures ever again.

Billy quickly scouted his surroundings and breathed a sigh of relief. The civilians had thankfully deserted the area after the appearance of the alien foot soldiers.

"Ninjetti – the Wolf!" He shouted, donning his blue Ninjetti robes, though this time, it was also equipped with a hood and a facemask to protect his identity.

He beckoned the creatures, knowing his new found ninja abilities were more than enough to take them on, without the need for him to morph.

Suddenly, a silver light shot out of the sky and struck him, before he had a time to react.

"What?" He looked down to see his body glow with the silver energy, which did not seem to hurt him.

Billy saw the evil minions creep away in shock, which made it unlikely that Rita or Zedd was behind this.

The best choice to proceed was to teleport back to the Command Center and analyze this strange energy, but before he could do so, he felt the energy take a grip around him. It was like the feeling he got right before he teleported.

"Oh no!" He muttered, seconds before he disappeared in a flash of silver light, leaving the small squadron of alien foot-soldiers baffled.

Earth 111

Angel Grove

A young black woman wearing a blue jumpsuit and goggles, with her curly hair tinkered with her newest invention in her garage, which had been turned into a makeshift laboratory.

"Billie, are you sure about this?" Her friend, an Asian girl with long smooth hair that reached to her waist and wearing a black shirt and a matching frock with a green floral pattern imprinted on them. "It doesn't feel right doing this without Zordnia or Alpha's supervision."

"I know what I am doing Eve." Billie reassured her. "Besides I had Tristan look over the schematics and so did you."

"Yes but-" Eve sighed, knowing she wouldn't be able to change her friend's mind.

Billie sighed, lowering her instruments and lifted her goggles, turning to face her friend.

"I know what you are thinking. You guys have the Zeo powers, but you know that you can't use those powers forever. The crystal is insanely powerful but there was a reason it was hidden instead of being used to energise ranger teams." She said grimly. "We need a more stable power source."

"I am just saying we can ask Zordnia for help…" Eve grumbled.

"I don't trust her. She keeps her secrets. She didn't tell us about the Power Chamber or the fact that she had an entire arsenal of ranger suits and zords ready to be powered by the Zeo Crystal." She snapped. "I know her longer than you, Eve. And in the end, as much as we owe the planet's survival to her intervention, she is an alien. We can do more. We want to do more but…"

Eve touched her shoulder. "Billie, we can't play Gods. We can't interfere in human history or stop wars…"

"I am not saying we take over the world, Eve. Even if we can't stop wars, we can save innocent lives from being gunned down. We can help in natural disasters, save lives… Tristan, Jessica, Taylor, Karan and Asher… they all agree with me. They all left to help the world in other ways because Zordnia's rules made it clear that the ranger powers are not to save lives, only to fight evil."

Eve paused.

"I know you understand, that's why I let you know about all this…" Billie said softly. "We are not superheroes despite what the world thinks. Zordon's rules doesn't let us be that…"

"We are just soldiers." Eve finished somberly.

The other girl nodded.

"That's why I must do this." Billie told her, returning to look at her project, what appeared to be a prototype morpher. "So, we can actually be heroes."

Eve nodded.

Suddenly, a silver beam shot out of nowhere and collided with Billie, the girl letting out a yelp as the silver energies wrapped around her body.

"What?" Eve asked, trying to touch her only for the light to encase Billie in a bubble of silver light. Tendrils of silver light shot out from it and wrapped around her arms, changing colour into blue on touching her.

"What is happening!" Eve yelled, pounding her fists against the bubble.

"It is not hurting me…" Billie said as the blue light enveloped her like a cocoon before it shattered to reveal her in her blue Ninjetti robes, the golden medallion of the wolf in the center of her chest.

"Billie!" Eve gasped.

"My Ninjetti powers!" She gasped. "They returned."

Another tiny glowing silver orb coalesced from the bubble and dropped into her arms and the orb shattered to reveal her old power coin… the same one that had been destroyed nearly a year ago.

"Billie Cranston of Earth 111, in return for your assistance in saving a different world from imminent destruction, I have returned your powers to you." A booming voice spoke. "Do you agree to join this mission?"

"Who are you?" Eve asked, looking around them to spot the speaker.

"Yes." Billie said, feeling a strange sort of kindred with the voice.

"What?" Eve turned to him, baffled.

"Eve, don't let Zordnia or the others know about this and don't let them find out about our project." Billie told her.

"Billie, you can't just go to another world!" Eve protested incredulously.

"If someone needs help and I can help, I should. That is what real heroes do." Billie smiled at her before looking up. "I am ready."

"So be it. May the Power Protect you." The voice said as the bubble vanished in a flash of silver light leaving the green zeo ranger alone in the garage.

Earth U-94

Year 2018

"It's Morphin Time!" No matter how many times Matthew Cook morphed, the sensation of pure power rushing through his body never failed to fill him with a feeling of infallibility. "Blue Wolf!"

His life had changed the moment Zordon had chose him and his friends to be Earth's defenders. Sure, it came with the threat of losing their lives but it also opened their eyes to a much wider universe.

He leapt at the tengus, swinging his power lance, but right before his lance could hit the avian foot-soldier, a silver beam shot out from the distance, grazing the tenga and struck him in the chest, sending him staggering back. It did not hurt him, but he looked down to see the silver light form a layer over his body, like a second suit over his armour.

The tengas were giving him a wide berth, the energy having scared them. Then he looked at a pile of ashes in front of him… The beam had barely touched that tenga and yet, had destroyed them completely. Yet it hung on to his body and did not even cause him any discomfort. Before he could contact Zordon, he felt himself being teleported away in a silver light.

Earth B-83

Year 1995

Aisha Campbell may have graduated from a Ninja Academy but the Ninja powers Ninjor granted them was unlike anything she had seen before. If anything, it resembled the animal spirit techniques used by the Pai Zhua Academy.

When she and her friends came to Angel Grove for the Ninja Tournament, they had not expected to encounter the Power Rangers or be friends with them, and later join their ranks. When Billy, Kim and Tommy decided to leave for the Peace Conference, they chose her, Adam, and Rocky to replace them and soon afterwards, they journeyed to Ninjor's temple to get their new power coins.

Through everything they had been through with her new friends, they had not told them that they were actual ninjas, just like they had not informed Sensei Omino or other contacts in the Thunder Ninja Academy that they were now Power Rangers, part of the same group they had been sent to investigate.

The secrets were not easy to keep but the satisfaction of saving the world made it worth it. As ninjas, they were obligated to remain in the shadows and while they could act in the open as rangers, they could not use their ninja powers even if doing so would have made their missions far easier.

They had chosen to keep their two worlds separate.

Though with the ninja powers Ninjor had given them, it became a bit easier to sneak in some of the techniques they had learnt in the Academy and disguise it as part of the abilities Ninjor's new coins had given them.

Jason, Zack, and Trini often tried to shelter them, to ease them into the world of aliens and magic… If only they knew that they had known of its existence longer than them and were trained in the way of elemental magics.

She pushed those stray thoughts from her mind, as she glared at the tengas that surrounded her and her friends from all sides as a huge sand monster towered over them. A fun day at the beach ruined by Rita and Zedd's pettiness.

It was so tempting to use her lightning bolts and fry the tengas to a crisp and end it right now.

Instead, she followed Jason's lead as they raised the morphers to the skies.

"It's Morphin Time!" He yelled. "Red Ape!"

"Yellow Bear!" Trini followed.

"Black Frog!" Zack was next, his face making the same frown it did everytime he had to call out his totem's name.

"White Falcon!" Rocky said.

"Pink Crane!" Adam shouted.

"Blue Wolf!" Aisha finished, as they completed the morph. While their helmets retained the dinosaur motifs, they could feel the power of animal spirits empower their being.

She saw the other run at the creatures.

Adam leapt gracefully, executing a series of flips that would have made Kimberly proud as he dodged the attacks by the tengas every time before he spun around, summoned his power bow, and fired at them midair. By the time he landed, his arrows had sent them all staggering to the ground.

Rocky was next, fending off the creatures with the help of Saba.

Jason sliced through the sand monster with his power sword while Zack and Trini did the same with their own weapons.

Aisha summoned her power lance, and jumped to aid the three. She dug her lance to the creature and channeled her thunder elemental through it into the creature. To the other three, it looked like the blue cackles of electricity that jolted out of the lance and through the monster, quickly turning the sand into glass, was due to the energy of her power weapon but she knew was going to get an earful from Adam later.

She jumped back before swinging her lance in a wide arc, shattering the monster.

"That was awesome, Sha!" Zack whooped.

"Yeah, using electricity to turn sand to glass… Well, that was a total blue ranger move." Trini said, patting her in the back.

"Nice work, Aisha." Jason added in.

"Yeah, real nice." Adam said with forced cheer as he and Rocky joined them, after sending the tengas flying back to the Moon.

Aisha rolled her eyes underneath her helmet.

Before she could say something, a silver beam erupted from the skies and the rangers spread out thinking it was Rita and Zedd's energy jolt to revive and magnify their fallen monster, like usual.

Instead, the beam struck her, and the world around her vanished in a silver blaze.

Master Koragg sensed it happen from the Grid, seeing visions of many other warriors bearing the wolf spirit across the multiverse be whisked away by silver beams or sucked into portals, before appearing in the world that desperately needed their aid.

He had done what he could, the rest was in the hands of his champions and the Morphin Master had no doubt they would succeed.
