Chapter 1: A Dog's Blues

It was a humid night when Shaun, an 8-year-old boy, was in the car with his Step-Uncle Radley coming home from the movies to drop him off at his mom's house. Shaun was a bit of an introvert, he doesn't have many friends and is shy around new people but the few he does have he loves hanging out with them. His uncle and his parents were born in Brisbane Australia, he lived a normal childhood but after his dad passed away from lung cancer when he was 12 years old he and his mom moved to America where his mom remarried.

Rad looked back in the mirror and saw his nephew staring out of the window and decided to make the drive a little more lively. "Hey mate, did you enjoy the movie?" he asked.

"Oh yeah, it was awesome!" Shaun said happily.

the movie they watched was about a group of six colorful ponies trying to save everyone and their friends from the evil Storm King.

"I'm glad you enjoyed it, I also thought it was pretty good, I like that one pony, Songbird Seranade, she has a nice voice." Rad replied.

He looked back and still saw Shaun looking out with a blank expression so he asked him another question.

"Hey, how are you holding up since, well you know?" "Since my parents don't live together anymore?" Shaun said looking at his uncle with the rearview mirror. "I'm... Okay i guess, I'm glad i live with my mom though, she's strict but she loves me deeply and cares about me. "yep, that sounds like my step sister." Rad said with a smile on his face as they pulled into his step-sister's driveway.

As he began to pull into the driveway he saw something that threw him off and gave him a bad feeling in his gut, the front door was more than slightly pushed open. As Rad and Shaun unbuckled their belts he turned around and spoke to his nephew.

"Wait in the car Shaun." Shaun looked at his step-uncle with a confused look as he got out the car and sped-walked into the house. Shaun, curious as to why he had to wait, got out against what Rad had told him and also walked into the house.

Shaun slowly walked into the house, running his hands across the wall to find the light switch. He found it but after flipping the switch on and off several times he found the power has been turned off, because the clock on the microwave wasn't working, only the light of the full moon illuminating the inside of the rooms. He then carefully walked upstairs and headed to his mom's room and saw the door wide open with his uncle standing in the middle of the room, staring at the bed. Shaun stood in the doorframe and spoke softly.

"Uncle Rad? What are you lookin-" before Shaun could finish his sentence, he looked at the bed and began to feel the tears build up. His mom laid in the bed, her throat slashed and multiple stab wounds in her body, blood covering the sheets and blanket. Radley slightly jumped at the presence of his nephew who he thought he told to wait in the car.

"H-hey Bud, I thought I told you to wait in the car." he told Shaun while fighting back tears of his own.

Shaun began to cry as the tears overflowed his eyes and he ran into the trees behind his mother's house, Rad reached out a hand to grab him and shouted. "WAIT!" but he was too slow to grab his nephew.

Shaun would always play in the woods before his dad moved out so he knew how to navigate them but the dimly lit up night and the tears in his eyes made it impossible to see where he was going. When he wiped away enough tears he looked back at his house, his mind overflowed with emotion and questions. "Why did this happen? What did mom do to deserve this? What's going to happen now?" while looking back, he wasn't paying attention and tripped on a fallen branch and fell into a hole.

He closed his eyes and braced himself for impact with the ground, but it never came, instead he felt like he was still falling. He slowly opened his eyes and let out a gasp, he was inside some kind of tunnel, vibrant colors surrounded him and bright shining stars flashed around him. He was amazed by what he was seeing but then he saw an even brighter light coming towards him at a fast rate. He knew this time he was going hit something and once again shut his eyes and prepared himself for what was on the other side of the tunnel. Shaun hit the ground on his stomach and groaned, he rolled over on to his back and opened his eyes to see a blue sky with some clouds overhead and a felt a gentle wind go over his body. He stayed there for a bit, until he heard the sounds of people talking and children playing. He sat up and could not believe his eyes. He saw dogs talking and walking around on two legs. That was when he realized something was off, he looked down at himself and didn't see a human boy, but a dog's body! He touched his arms and legs and felt the soft fur, he reached up and felt his snout and grabbed his new ears. He was in complete shock, he had became a Siberian Husky. Not knowing how to process what had happened to him, he curled up into a ball and started to cry. After a few moments of silently weeping his ears twitched as he heard the sound of footsteps of two dogs walking up to him.
