Author's Foreword:

Please, miss several moments of this experiment.

Well, this will be my first attempt at both a Bluey and a slice of life fic...

How could this possibly go wrong? We shall find out together.

Since the creation of the universe, there have always been strange phenomena that rationality can't quite explain. Creatures harnessing the elements of this world have gone by many names depending on the region where they've come from. Shamans in Africa, druids in Ireland, Jadoo wallah in India, to more fantastical terms like magicians, wizards, witches and warlocks in various other cultures. The one thing binding all of these together is that they all wield magic. Whether or not one gets their magic through intense spiritual training (not unlike the cultivators popularized in Chinese manhua) or forming a contract with a supernatural creature (just like in Dungeons and Dragons), all that matters is that they are able to use magic.

And now, this universe shows us an intricately woven narrative of one of these magic users. It is a tale of legacy, introspection and most importantly of all, family. Now let us see what the universe has in store for them…

[After hearing that explanation from an omniscient narrator, we are treated to a panning shot of this universe, zooming into the Milky Way galaxy, then to our solar system, Earth; Then the scene transitions into a spinning globe, which lands on Australia, then Queensland, Brisbane and finally on a quite sizable looking house in the Brisbane suburbs. It is here where the story begins.]

We are treated to a scene of what appears to be a family of 4 playing on the front garden of their house. The mum appears to be acting as a sort of umbrella for some game she is playing with her 2 daughters while the dad seems to be putting oil into their motor, an orange looking one.

The older daughter stops playing as she heads toward the car after their dad finished oiling it.

"See you mum, see you, Bingo."

As she enters the car, the younger daughter, apparently known as Bingo, explains what is going on

"Can you play with me until Bluey gets back from Chloe's house?" Bingo asks her mum

Unfortunately for her, mum responds that their main can won't flush, whether or not it was clogged due to her daughters' games or husband's diet, or it won't flush due to a mechanical error has yet to be determined. But she did advise her daughter to play a game that only needs a single person to play. And so, while mum is on bathroom duty, Bingo sets off in search of a game that she can play by herself.

(This episode of Bingo is called "Bingo")

Before Bingo leaves the bathroom, she realizes one critical error.

"I don't know how to play by myself."

"Yeah, you do, sweetie. You're just not used to it. Give it a go."

With her mum's encouragement, Bingo goes off in search of a solo game. Her first idea was to play doctor…but doctors need patients to take care of, so this idea quickly falls through. Perhaps she could have "operated" on a plush toy?

Next, she tries "I Spy", but this fails too, because one needs at least two people to play I spy. Although something strange did happen…Bingo said that the object that she spied was the kiwi rug (it was something colored green) but who was she saying it to?

Bingo's next idea was to play a "railings game" and instead of sliding down the banister, which should be the only thing that could even be remotely considered fun with the word "railing", she instead decides to do…something with the balcony railing. All that happened was that her "plan" somehow got her leg stuck in the railing. After her mum got her leg unstuck, she thinks that Bingo might just be hungry.

After heading to the kitchen, Bingo opens the fridge, agonizing over whether or not to eat raspberries or blueberries. And yes, their fridge does contain the sacred spread (Vegemite) that confirms that yes, this is indeed Australia. Eventually, after letting all the heat into the fridge several times, she decides to eat the blueberries. Why she couldn't have both is beyond us.

After cutely eating a few blueberries, Bingo decides that her fourth attempt at a solo game would be hide and seek…a game that is known for requiring at least 2 or more people. She only realizes this after picking a hiding spot.

It seems that Bingo has been having a problem getting started. So, as a song from the future foretold, her mum gives her a nudge, suggesting that maybe her daughter doesn't need a game, but a problem. At this point, the dad has arrived back home after dropping her daughter at one of her friend's houses.

After asking whether or not he has a problem for Bingo, he recalls that on the way to Chloe's house, Bluey wanted to know what color kiwis were. Bingo says green, after all, they have a kiwi rug in their playroom and she knows that they're green. But their dad clarifies that she meant the "furry animal that lives in New Zealand".

Bingo doesn't know what color kiwis are (even though the fruit has only two colors, green and brown) but she knows how to find out. Getting out a world map puzzle, she attempts to solve it, surely the New Zealand piece would have the symbol of one of their most recognizable icons! After nearly solving the 18-piece puzzle, she is only missing one piece. That piece, however, is New Zealand.

So, she decides to put up missing posters of New Zealand…by using a picture of a kiwi bird and not a picture of the actual island nation…well, let's give her some slack, she is only 4 years old after all.

Meanwhile…

A plane is seen flying over the ocean, as it passes over where New Zealand appears to be, some passengers of the flight happen to be glancing over the patch of ocean where New Zealand should be and of course, it's there…kind of.

New Zealand appears to be flickering in and out of reality, simultaneously existing and not existing at the same time like some sort of quantum conundrum. Naturally, concerned people post this all-over social media and it isn't long until some governments get a hold of this.

"How is this possible?"

"New Zealand is missing again?"

"No, it's still there."

"Is something wrong with New Zealand?"

"What the hell is going on?"

Contacting the New Zealand prime minister reveals that nothing strange is happening in New Zealand, it is just business as usual for the country. None of the New Zealanders even realize something might be happening.

Some paranormal enthusiasts also have heard of the disappearing New Zealand, and one famous paranormal enthusiast thinks he may have seen something like this before. His name is Jared. Now, Jared here has his own YouTube channel, discussing paranormal events that may or may not be real. One of his most famous series discusses about things phasing in and out of reality and Jared believes that this is happening for real life.

But the Backrooms is just a fake 4chan post on the /x/ paranormal board! It is just some users trolling on the forums!

It can't be real, right?

Well…most likely not, but something similar is happening and Jared is on the case. As the foremost researcher into Backrooms like phenomena, he is a specialized expert in this sort of thing. Searching for answers, he tries to rally any of his New Zealand viewers to discuss the phenomenon…

Back to the main story…

After some time passes, the older daughter, Bluey, has returned from her little trip to Chloe's house and sees one of the New Zealand posters outside. She knows what this means and goes to her sister, who confirms that she is missing the New Zealand puzzle piece. The piece was apparently on Bingo's bum. After slotting in the last piece, they all see that the kiwi bird is, in fact, brown. While this was going on, mum was busy repairing the flush valve mechanism within the can and has just flushed it and…

"It works!"

As 2 problems were solved this day, we are finished watching this little snippet of their lives. And as for New Zealand, just as Jared has just finished questioning the locals about the phenomena, it stopped.

New Zealand stopped flickering.

It is back right where it belongs, with the kiwis none the wiser.

Satellite imaging from multiple countries have confirmed the abnormality has ceased.

Could this be a glitch in the fabric of the universe?

As this oddity resolved itself, Jared notes his experience down in a YouTube video and descends back into the depths of the Backrooms content, as his namesake was prophesized to do.

And the world is back to normal…at least, for now.

Why are we attracted to the paranormal? Is it because it is intrinsic nature for us to attempt to rationalize that which has no discernable explanation? The readers of this document should have a vague idea of what I'm talking about. Seemingly bizarre phenomena such as the Triangles, cryptids, extraterrestrials, supernatural creatures and the like. Another such phenomenon would be harnessing abilities that some would consider to be unnatural. Devoutly religious people seem to perform what some would be considered miracles (whether or not this ability was bestowed by a patron deity is yet to be ascertained). To this end, we have made a group of people that are attempting to explain the unexplainable. I think some Canuk that had sought the stars once before has also been compiling the eyewitness reports and disseminating them to the general public. These events have been happening since before our existence, so my entry is new compared to the vastness of time; But remember, dear reader…

The truth is out there, somewhere…

Author's Note:

Backstory chapter events may or may not presented be in the correct order, temporally speaking.

Since the Bluey-verse is a parallel world to real life it would stand to reason that some things in our world would be similar to things in theirs.

Right, since this is a Bluey fic, I will be attempting to switch out some words for their British counterparts, as the Australian show utilizes British English.

The story is currently in the backstory arc (technically a prologue?); The writing of the backstory chapters should be near identical to the original episodes they were based off of, with some minor alterations.

Attempting to add a piece of world building, the last section of each chapter will contain an excerpt from different members of the Phenomena Research Organization. These will usually be the members' thoughts to a particular subject tangentially related to the chapter or knowledge of a specific magic spell that was used in the corresponding chapter.
