Collaborated by my awesome user pal, Alvaxerox. I only own Lea Thompson aka Midnight Hope, the Gotham Grimtales (shared with my user friends), and the Fitzpatrick Sisters. The rest belong to their respected owners of the DC Comics universe. Whether Green Lantern Animated or Batman Brave and Bold. Please, enjoy.
Just a heads up, there are a few stories that may or may not be referenced that can be found in GoldGuardian2418's page in FanFiction only. She and I have collaborated some stories, too, yet she mostly does a lot where I appreciate her hard work. If interested, check out the following stories in this order:
'Hopeful Speed', 'A Blue Generation', 'Counting Bunnies', 'Compromise Equals Great Teamwork', 'A Meaningful Gift', and 'Good Friends Can Raise Hope'.
And a reminder for users that keep commercializing their junk in the comments that have nothing to do with this story? KNOCK IT OFF! I may not completely get rid of all the dumb comments (don't know why isn't handling it), but I can still block you from doing it again! So, for the love of all thing's comics, QUIT BOTHERING ME!
That is all. Now, on with the new story!
Enjoy and no flamed reviews nor fake advertised ones, please.
At the Thompson family home, Hal Jordan, also known as the Green Lantern, took notice of his niece in arms, Lea Thompson, also known as the Blue Lantern Midnight Hope, walking furiously towards her dad's study room with some papers in her hands. So he walked towards her, and catches her in the hallway.
"Lea, what's wrong? Why are you so mad?" Hal asked.
"I wanna put this assignment to the shredder, burn it, and throw what's left in a blackhole!" Lea yelled in anger; her hands clenched very hard on her new school project that's getting mangled. "Whoever came up with this option for the topic is a complete fool!"
"I take it that it's really bad, too?" Hal guessed.
"Oh, you don't know the half of it," Lea scoffed. "My class was assigned to do a report on what it means to be a hero. We each randomly get a known hero on Earth and write about his or her qualities that match the word."
Hal was confused. "That doesn't sound bad. If anything, it sounds very interesting and fun." He said.
"Yeah. It would have been a fun assignment...if I didn't get stuck with the one hero that's impossible to match those qualities!" Lea explained in frustration. "I can handle writing about Heroes like Superman, Batman, and or Wonder Woman. Even Plastic Man, Booster Gold, and Huntress I would have be fine with. But THIS specific hero I got stuck with in writing a paper about is impossible!"
Hal scratched his head. "Who?"
"Ugh! Who do you think?!" Lea exclaimed, groaning before covering her face. "The one hero that's got a major ego problem worse than Guy Gardner and Booster Gold combined! Not to mention sees other heroes with no powers as useless weaklings!"
Hal tries to think of who Lea was talking about. Someone who has a bigger ego than Guy Gardner and Booster Gold? He then remembered there was one like that. "I think I know who you mean. You're talking about Captain Atom, right?"
"Yes, Captain Atom! He's the absolute worst!" Lea stated. "You'd think that after having his powers removed would have made him realize how important it is to be human where you don't need superpowers to be a superhero. But nooooo, that nuclear brain cell learned nothing! He doesn't deserve the title 'hero'. More like ego-tyrant bully!"
"Yeah, I know how much you loathe him." Hal said.
"There's no way I'm talking to that asinine guy in helping me with this assignment," Lea stated, folding her arms. "His literal commercial slogan was 'Be a hero by remembering you're not.'. That is a complete insult to people. Handling dangerous missions in protecting the innocent is one thing, but heroes don't belittle civilians nor vigilante heroes that never needed powers in getting the job done. Not only that, but the last time I saw Captain Atom was when I told the truth to his face through that rage toxin planted by the Gotham Grimtales. As if he'd be eager to see my face again after that. And I don't mind if he didn't as much as I don't want to see his."
Hal knows how much Lea hates Captain Atom. But sometimes her hatred is a bit much, even for her. "No offense, Lea, I get it. You hate Captain Atom. But don't you think you're going a little bit overboard on the grudge? You talk like you want to strangle him for real and you look like you're going to snap," He explained with caution.
"I know. It's not like me to throw in the towel involving an assignment," Lea sighed, knowing she doesn't have any other choices here. "Whether I like it or not, this needs to be done where my feelings on Captain Atom need to be pushed aside."
Hal agreed. "Exactly. If you don't want to fail this assignment, then you're going to have to put aside your grudge against Captain Atom. At least, until you complete it." He advised.
Lea groaned, putting her hands on her face. "This is going to be annoying. And you want to know what else is going to be annoying? The only way for me to risk asking these questions in front of Captain Atom is that I go as myself without the mask and powers!"
"That sounds like a good start." Hal said. "Just try not to give Captain Atom any suspicions that you're Midnight Hope."
Let's be real. I was not pleased by what Hal said yet did not deny that fact. Last thing I wanted was Captain Atom knowing my secret identity to most likely harass me for being pathetic and weak.
Soon, Lea as Midnight Hope was making her way to find the hero she's looking for while still communicating to her colleague/friend with an earpiece. Even had her backpack with important stuff for emergencies.
"All right. Based on what I gathered from Batman, his real name is Nathaniel Christopher Adams," Lea/Hope explained, bringing out the file from her ring while flying. "Also called Allen Adams and Cameron Scott. He's a former United States Air Force Captain who was atomized in a scientific experiment that went south. Because of that, he gained the abilities of super strength, flight, and energy projection. In summary, he used to be a soldier who is now a cocky hero that treats regular people like dirt."
"Sounds about right." Hal said, in the earpiece. "You sure you don't want me to tag along in case you burst and Kash out on him again?"
"No, I can handle this on my own," Lea/Hope assured, landing down near an alleyway of a town before de-transforming into her civilian form. "All I need to do is find the adoring fans cheering for that nutjob and go from there. If this area is anything like the other cities with known heroes yet a little different, it should have citizens blindly worshipping Captain Atom."
"All right, then. I'll keep in touch. Good luck." Hal said.
The blonde teen kept walking around town in search of Captain Atom. Last she heard from Batman, he was last seen in staying at his home turf for almost a few weeks or month and hasn't been heard from back in the Watchtower since...well, since Midnight Hope told him off when she was under a rage toxin. Although not herself, Lea didn't deny what she said about him. The guy never stayed after she was cured and recovered a few hours later.
While I know I should apologize to him, I highly doubt he would accept or even return the same apology. Still, deep down, I felt a little guilty over what happened. Not only that, but a true hero, especially a Blue Lantern of Hope, needs to forgive and accept others without hate no matter what. I just wanted to get this over with and go back home quicker. Just another mundane day...or so I thought.
Just then, Lea came across a shocking sight where billboards of Captain Atom were vandalized. Even a group of civilians going on a riot in destroying a giant statue of the hero.
"Okay...maybe these people are not short-sighted as a thought," Lea responded, having mixed emotions about this. "But even I know these actions on the guy are excessive."
"Down with Captain Atom!" The group of civilian said, breaking every billboard with Captain Atom's smug face.
"Liar!"
"Fraud!"
She then noticed the chaos getting worse when one of the electric poles came down with live broken wires about to hit two boys. Acting fast, Lea jumped into action and tackle the young kids away from the danger.
"Whoa! Are you all okay?" Lea asked, getting up and recognizing the kids. "Hey, I've seen you two before. From the news. Doesn't Captain Atom save you guys?"
"Yeah, he does. But, to be honest, he's not our favorite." The first kid said.
"Especially when he's been a no show for weeks now," the second kid stated.
Lea blinked in complete surprise. "Wait...You don't like Captain Atom and he is missing? But I was under the impression that you looked up to him after helping you from getting hurt."
"Not really. He mostly just used us for his public service announcement to keep his image fresh," The second kid said. "But his last one where we are weak because we don't have powers kinda hurted us. So, we quit."
"Plus, ever since that updated announcement recently out, no one has seen Captain Atom nor bothered to ask where he is," The first kid added. "Although I don't mind Captain Atom getting some Karma, even I got to admit this is a bit too far. We gotta get to our homes. Take care of yourself, miss."
The boys then walked away.
After seeing the two boys leave, the blonde teen started contemplating over this discovery.
A whole town dedicated to Captain Atom on where he lives suddenly turns their back on him to a point of causing pandemonium? As much as this would make me happy in seeing how right I was about Captain Atom not as heroic as he claims, I knew that something was not right here.
"Forget the assignment. It looks like Captain Atom is not only MIA but also in big trouble," Lea stated, deciding to find a place to transform again and start her search. "That, or he is going to be when I see him again."
Lea transforms into Midnight Hope and flies up and creates a blue construct of binoculars where she tries to use them to find Captain Atom.
"All right. If I were a self-proclaimed superhero coward who is completely fool of himself, where would I hide?" Midnight Hope asked herself, searching around the area for anything out of the ordinary. "The guy must have some high-quality base or headquarters to rub it in the face of his lower beings."
It didn't take her long to notice something off with her binoculars. There was red glowing energy around what appears to be an abandoned broadcasting station for television or radio news.
"Something tells me what I'm looking for is in there," Midnight Hope stated, ending her construct before flying over to the source. "I should proceed with caution and check what's going on before calling for backup. Last thing I need is to summon the heroes over a false alarm."
Suddenly, the station suddenly blasted a red wave that knocked the Blue Lantern from the air.
"WHOOOAAAAHHHHH!"
To be continued…
