Athena, Diana, and Faith opened the car doors and jumped out as a massive claw slammed down cutting the car in half longways! The three women rolled to their feet and faced their foe warily.
It was a giant praying mantis, but somehow mutated, with spines and growths all over it. It was nearly thirty feet tall! The insect's compound eyes watched them closely, and its mouth closed and opened repeatedly.
"Jesus Christ! A giant bug! Where the hell did it come from?!" Faith cried, staring in disbelief.
The mantis raised one claw and slashed at them, causing them to duck!
"Questions later, murder now!" Athena answered.
"Works for me!" Faith responded. All of them drew their blades, Faith with a knife, Diana and Athena with short swords.
The mantis lowered itself and attempted to snap at Faith with its mouth, but the Slayer evaded the bite gracefully and landed a side kick to its head, staggering it. Athena and Diana took advantage of its vulnerability, slashing and stabbing with their swords. Their arthropod enemy screeched in pain and retaliated with its scythe-like claws, but found its attacks parried. Faith leapt onto its back and attacked with her knife, but the mantis bucked violently and threw her off. She fell hard to the ground, stunning her.
Turning towards her, the angry insect was intercepted by a furious Athena, who jumped into its path and bringing her curved blade around, chopped off one of its legs. Screaming in agony, it raised its claws only for Diana to slice off both of its arms with one fluid motion. Falling to the ground, and before it could do more, Athena beheaded the injured monster with a vicious swipe, ending the battle. The praying mantis shuddered and lay still.
"You okay, hon?" Athena asked as she picked Faith up.
"Yeah...are there any more of the fuckers?" Faith wondered.
They all looked around carefully.
"It would seem not." Diana replied.
Then they regarded their ruined vehicle.
"Anyone feel like a hike? Well, too bad, we're going to have to do it anyway." Athena observed, bemused.
