"Alright, gym badge six, let's do this!" Ash cheered, rushing into the Olivine City gym.
"Ash, it's good to see you, I hope your training yesterday went well." Jasmine said.
"It sure did, and now I have a plan for whichever type you throw at me." Ash said confidently.
"We'll see about that." Jasmine said. "Just so you know, helping Amphy won't give you any ease in this battle, I will still be fighting you as if you were any other trainer."
"That's what I like to hear!" Ash said.
"This will be a four on four match between the gym leader Jasmine of Olivine City, and the challenger Ash from Pallet Town. Only the challenger may switch Pokemon at any time and the battle will be over when either side is out of Pokemon that are able to battle." The gym judge said. "Are these rules clear to the both of you?"
"Yes." Both Ash and Jasmine said in response.
"Very well then gym leader Jasmine, send out your first Pokemon." The judge called, stepping out of the arena.
"Magneton come on out!" Jasmine said.
"Perfect, I had a feeling you'd start with that. Gligar I choose you!"
"Magneton use Sonic Boom!"
"Gligar counter with Poison Sting!"
Gligar fired a flurry of needles at Magneton, missing the Sonic boom, but tinging off of Magneton's body as Gligar was struck by the electric types attack.
"Wait, that should have done something, the attack hit perfectly!" Ash exclaimed in shock.
"Check again." Jasmine said.
'Magneton, the Magnet Pokemon, a Steel and Electric type.' Ash's Pokedex confirmed.
"Wait, but that means Poison Sting won't hurt Magneton at all." Molly said in surprise.
"I wonder." Brock said in thought. "I know a while back Jasmine's ace was an Onix, just like me, but then she discovered something and that changed her gym's typing."
"Do you think she knows something about Onix that we don't?" Molly asked.
"I'm not sure, but I don't think this will be as easy of a fight as Ash had hoped.". Brock said, watching Ash recall Gligar.
"Houndoom come on out and use Flamethrower!"
"Magneton use Lock On!"
Houndoom sent out a stream of flames that engulfed Magneton before it brushed off the intense heat, setting their sights on Houndoom.
"Houndoom use Flamethrower again!" Ash called out.
"Magneton use Zap Cannon!"
Both streams of elemental attacks hit their target simultaneously, the damage causing Magneton to drop and Houndoom to stumble for a moment.
"Magneton is unable to battle, the winner is Houndoom." The judge declared.
"That's great, now all Ash has to do is figure out what the rest of her team is." Misty said excitedly at first before realizing they still didn't know what specialty Jasmine was.
"Magneton you did great, take a long, well deserved rest." Jasmine said. "Now Skarmory take to the skies!"
"Steel types." Casey said in realization.
"Houndoom take a break from that last attack." Ash said, recalling his fire type. "Croconaw I choose you!"
"Croco!" Croconaw cheered, with a light flex before noticing the armored bird heading straight for him.
"Croconaw use Hydro Pump!"
"Skarmory use Drill Peck!"
Skarmory dove at Croconaw, spinning into his Hydro Pump to send water flying before striking the water type, knocking him backwards onto his back.
"Croconaw get up!"
"Skarmory use Steel Wing!"
Skarmory got in close, diving right at Croconaw again.
"Use Ice Punch!"
Croconaw got up at the last second, slamming his fist into Skarmory's wing, freezing it and sending the flying type crashing to the ground.
"Skarmory use Sky Attack!"
"Croconaw hit them with another Ice Punch!"
Croconaw rushed forward as Skarmory was engulfed in light, the ice chipping off of their wing as they rose into the air., Croconaw just barely missing his attack.
"Croconaw use Hydro Pump!"
"Skarmory now!"
Skarmory launched at Croconaw, resulting in a double knockout from the two attacks colliding.
"Both Croconaw and Skarmory are unable to battle." The gym judge declared. "Trainers send out your next Pokemon!"
"Pi!" Pikachu exclaimed, wanting in.
"Hold on, we still don't know what's up next. Gligar come on out!" Ash called out.
"Steelix I choose you!" Jasmine exclaimed.
The large metal snake landed on the field with a resounding thud that sent everyone but Jasmine falling off of their feet.
"That thing is huge!" Casey shouted.
"It must be the evolved form of Onix." Brock said in surprise.
'Steelix, the Iron Snake Pokemon, a Steel and Ground type, and the evolved form of Onix. It is said that if an Onix lives for over 100 years, its composition changes to become diamond like.' Molly's Pokedex explained.
"That is not very helpful information." Misty pointed out.
"Gligar use Double Team!" Ash exclaimed.
"Steelix use Iron Tail!" Jasmine commanded.
Steelix swatted their tail around, breaking through the after images of Gligar and striking the real one all in one blow.
"Gligar use Sand Attack!"
"Steelix use Rock Throw!"
Steelix launched some of the boulders in the gym at Gligar to no avail as the small Pokemon was to fast and agile, before swatting sand into the steel types eyes.
"Steelix use Strength!"
Steelix rushed forward, pushing against Gligar as the scorpion bat did everything in his power to push back but in the end was defeated from the powerful rush.
"Gligar is unable to battle, the winner is Steelix." The gym judge declared.
"Gligar return!" Ash called out. "Houndoom, I'm counting on you!" Ash exclaimed, sending his fire type back out. "Use Flamethrower!"
"Steelix use Strength!"
Steelix rushed forward once more, being stopped by the stream of flames coming from Houndoom, until both attacks fizzled out.
"Steelix use Earthquake!"
"Houndoom climb onto Steelix and use Solar Beam!" Ash called out, bracing himself as the arena shook and Houndoom climbed to safety.
"Steelix shake him off with Iron Tail!"
Steelix swatted their tail, sending Houndoom flying into the air before the fire type countered with their Solar Beam for damage.
"Steelix now use Earthquake!"
"Houndoom use Flamethrower!"
Houndoom tried producing a flame but was too exhausted from the last one as he was tossed about like a ragdoll, defeating him.
"Houndoom is unable to battle, the winner is Steelix." The gym judge declared.
"Pika Pi!" Pikachu begged, wanting to fight.
"I'm sorry Pikachu but against a steel and ground type, I don't think you can do much." Ash admitted. "And Sudowoodo won't last five seconds before he;s knocked flat. So come on out Scyther!"
"Steelix use Rock Throw!"
"Scyther dodge it and use Fury Cutter!"
Scyther flew across the arena, striking Steelix with their blades before quickly moving back.
"Steelix use Strength!"
"Scyther use Fury Cutter again!"
"I don't get it, Fury Cutter shouldn't be doing much against Steelix." Misty said.
"Normally you're right, but Fury Cutter gets stronger over consecutive uses." Molly pointed out.
"Hey Misty, aren't you afraid of bugs?" Brock realized.
"I'm fine from a distance, it's only when they get close that it's an issue." Misty said with a huff.
"Scyther keep up the Fury Cutters!"
"Steelix knock them out of the skies with Iron Tail!"
Steelix tried to keep up with Scyther to no avail as the bug type struck time and time again, slowly whittling away Steelix before it finally fell, however leaving Scyther in an exhausted state.
"You did well Ash, but this is one fight you won't win today. Scizor come on out!" Jasmine exclaimed.
"She has a Scizor too?!" Casey exclaimed, checking her own Pokedex. 'Scizor the Pincer Pokemon, a Bug and Steel type and the evolved form of Scyther. This Pokemon's pincers, which contain steel, can crush any hard object it gets a hold of into bits.'
"What do you mean too?" Misty asked.
"Back in Azalea Town Ash fought Bugsy the gym leader there who had a Scizor, and when we first arrived in Olivine we met back up with Gary who also has a Scizor." Molly listed off.
"And with Scyther being the unevolved form, Ash is at a disadvantage, even if we don't count the long fight against Steelix it just had." Brock pointed out.
"Scizor use Wing Attack!"
"Scyther use Wing Attack!"
The two bugs rose into the air, with Scyther hitting more rapidly, but Scizor hitting harder.
"Scizor use Metal Claw!"
"Scyther use Fury Cutter!"
The two pokemon slammed their appendages against one another with Scyther getting knocked away.
"Scizor use Slash!"
"Scyther use Fury Cutter!"
The two clashed with their claws and scythes once more before Scyther was knocked to the ground.
"Scyther is unable to battle, the winner is Scizor." The gym judge declared.
"Ash, it was a good battle, if I can offer you some advice. You and your Pokemon need to be as tough as steel if you hope to stand up to us." Jasmine offered.
"Thank you Jasmine, I'll take that into consideration." Ash said with a bow, before leaving for more training.
