Same Day: The Triskelion

S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters

Inside: Nathan's Office

Steven/Captain Universe and Mabel are having a meeting with Nathan. They're all sitting down on two separate couches: Nathan on one, Steven/Captain Universe, and Mabel on another.

Steven/Captain Universe, and Mabel look behind them, and they all look at the big wall screen. Footage of Hector being interrogated comes to the screen.

The SHIELD agent interrogator's voice asks Hector, who sits and looks down, cuffed to the table in front of him, "Who hired you, Hector?"

Mabel asks Nathan curiously, "Is that live?"

Nathan answers Mabel as he looks at the screen, "Yeah, they picked him up last night in a not-so-safe house in Algiers."

Steven/Captain Universe asks Nathan as he looks at the big screen, "Are you saying he's a suspect?" He states knowingly, "Assassination isn't Hector's line." He watches the footage of Hector being interrogated, who is being very quiet.

Nathan says to Steven/Captain Universe, "No, no. It's more complicated than that. Hector was hired anonymously to attack the Lemurian Star. And he was contacted by email and paid by wire transfer, and then the money was run through 17 fictitious accounts." Steven/Captain Universe and Mabel look back at Nathan, "The last one going to a holding company that was registered to a Jacob Veech." He hands Steven/Captain Universe the file he was holding earlier.

Steven/Captain Universe asks Nathan as he grabs the file, "Are we supposed to know who that is?"

Nathan tells them, "Not likely. Veech died six years ago." Steven/Captain Universe opens the file, and Mabel leans over to look, "His last address was 1435 Elmhurst Drive. When I first met Rick, his mother lived at 1437."

Steven/Captain Universe looks at Nathan, "Are you saying Rick hired the pirates?"

Mabel adds in confusion, "Why?"

Nathan tells them, "The prevailing theory was that the hijacking was a cover for the acquisition and sale of classified intelligence." Steven/Captain Universe looks down, sighing. Mabel sighed as she looked away, "The sale went sour, and that led to Rick's death."

Looking at him with no emotion, Mabel tells Nathan, "If you really knew Rick Sanchez, you know that's not true." Steven looks at him.

Nathan nods faintly as he looks between the two, "Why do you think we're talking?" Nathan stands up and walks over to the window. Steven/Captain Universe and Mabel stand up as he says, "See, I took a seat on the Council not because I wanted to, but because Rick asked me to, because we were both realists." He stops in front of the window, puts his left hand in his pocket, and leans his right hand on the window. He continues, "We knew that, despite all the diplomacy and the handshaking and the rhetoric, that to build a really better world sometimes means having to tear the old one down." He looks back at Steven/Captain Universe and Mabel, "And that makes enemies." He puts his right arm down and turns to face Steven/Captain Universe, who has his hands on his belt, and Mabel, who has her arms crossed. Nathan slowly walks towards the two and says, "Those people that call you dirty because you got the guts to stick your hands in the mud and try to build something better." He stops a few feet away from them, "And the idea that those people could be happy today makes me really, really angry." He hesitates momentarily, "Captain, Ms. Pines, you were both the last ones to see Rick alive. I don't think that's an accident. And I don't think you do, either. So, I'm gonna ask again. Why was he there?"

Steven/Captain Universe tells Nathan truthfully, "He told us to not trust anyone."

Nathan says a bit questioningly, "I wonder if that included him."

Steven/Captain Universe glances at Mabel before replying, "I'm sorry. Those were his last words. Excuse us."

Steven/Captain Universe nudges Mabel forward as they turn to leave, and they start to walk. Steven/Captain Universe picks up his shield and places it on his back, following Mabel towards the exit of the office. Nathan sits/leans against the corner of his desk.

Nathan calls out, "Captain,-" Steven/Captain Universe and Mabel stop and look at Nathan, who tells them seriously, "-somebody murdered my friend, and I'm gonna find out why. Anyone gets in my way, they're gonna regret it." He gives them a look, "Anyone."

Steven/Captain Universe and Mabel nod, and Steven says, "Understood." He puts his left hand on Mabel's lower back as they turn around and leave Nathan's office, who watches them go.

Hallway

Mabel and Steven/Captain Universe walk down the hallway. Mabel tells Steven, "I have to grab a few things. I'll meet you later."

Steven/Captain Universe tells Mabel, his mind still thinking about the conversation in Nathan's office, "Yeah, sure." Mabel lightly grabs Steven's left wrist, squeezing it comfortably, making Steven give her a light smile. She returns it before turning around and walking away while Steven/Captain Universe continues forward, and his smile slowly disappears as he continues to think about the conversation.

A few minutes later, Steven/Captain Universe stands beside a window while waiting for the elevator. After a moment, the elevator arrives, and Steven/Captain Universe walks in.

Elevator

Steven/Captain Universe steps into the elevator, walks up to the window, and leans his hands on the railing in front of him. He looks down as he commands the floor he wants, "Operations control."

The SHIELD computer voice responds, "Confirmed." Just as the elevator doors are about to close, Jasper comes and puts her hands between the doors, making the elevator sensors stop before it closes and opens to let Jasper and two other strike agents in.

Jasper tells the two agents, "Keep all STRIKE personnel on-site."

STRIKE Agent 1 nods, "Understood." Jasper looks at Steven.

STRIKE Agent 2 responds, "Yes, ma'am."

Jasper commands the elevator computer, "Forensics."

SHIELD computer beeps, "Confirmed."

Jasper greets, "Cap."

Steven/Captain Universe turns around and greets back, "Jasper." Jasper looks away and nods. The three agents stay in a corner while Steven/Captain Universe stands in the back with his hands clasped in front of him, patiently as the elevator doors close and they ride down.

Jasper looks at Steven/Captain Universe as she informs him, "Evidence Response found some fibers on the roof they want us to see." Steven looks at her, "You want me to get the tac team ready?"

Steven/Captain Universe tells Jasper as he keeps his head straight but looks down, "No, let's wait and see what it is first."

Jasper nods, "Right."

Steven/Captain Universe looks up and notices one of the agents touching his weapon. Steven/Captain Universe narrows his eyes suspiciously, then looks up at Agent 1 and sees him purposely not looking in Steven's direction, dramatically looking up and around.

The elevator stops on a floor, the doors open and 4 more SHIELD and STRIKE agents enter the elevator.

SHIELD Agent 3 asks Agent 4, "What's the status so far?" The man answers him quietly.

SHIELD Agent 5 commands the SHIELD computer, "Administrations level."

SHIELD computer beeps, "Confirmed." Steven/Captain Universe watch the 4 agents come in.

SHIELD Agent 3 says to Steven, "Excuse me." Steven/Captain Universe nods and moves toward the center of the elevator as the two agents continue to converse quietly.

Jasper, facing the doors, turns her head a bit to her left to Steven/Captain Universe, telling him, "Um... I'm sorry about what happened with Rick." She turns her head forward as Steven tensely looks at Jasper's head, "It's messed up what happened to him."

Steven/Captain Universe nods, "Thank you." Jasper nods. Steven/Captain Universe looks around suspiciously, feeling that something is off.

Steven/Captain Universe turns his head to the left to Agent 3, who's still talking to another agent. Steven/Captain Universe notices sweat running down his temple as if saying he's nervous about something.

The elevator stops again and 2 strike agents enter with agent Jack Rollins.

STRIKE agent Rollins commands the shield computer, "Records."

SHIELD computer beeps, "Confirmed."

As the elevator doors close, Steven/Captain Universe looks around at the crowded elevator and realizes he's been threateningly surrounded by agents.

After a moment, Steven/Captain Universe says loudly, breaking the awkward silence and tension, "Before we get started, does anyone want to get out?"

Nobody says or does anything for a moment before suddenly, SHIELD agent Rollins extends and turns on an electric rod in his hand, turning around to shock Steven/Captain Universe. Steven quickly blocks it, pushing Agent Rollins's arm away, making him drop it as the 3 other agents grab Steven.

Jasper lightly punches the tap screen for the SHIELD computer to stop the elevator, making the screen red. The elevator stops abruptly.

Agent 7 stands behind Steven/Captain Universe, pulling him into a chokehold as Agent 8 grabs Steven's shield, takes it off his back, and then grabs his right wrist while Agent 3 grabs his left wrist. Steven grunts as he struggles.

Agent 2 holds his electric rod to Steven's chest to keep him weak. Agent 4 unhooks the handle of his briefcase with one hand, and Agent 3 does the same. However, Agent 4 successfully hooks a magnetic cuff on Steven's right wrist while Agent 8 holds his arm up as Agent 3 struggles.

The cuff magnetizes to the metal bar in the elevator behind Steven/Captain Universe. He grunts as he fights it, grabbing all his strength. He swings his right arm down and kicks Agent 2's knee, hitting Agent 8 in the neck. Then he swings his left elbow and hits Agent 3 in the face, making him let go of the magnetic cuff. The cuff flies up and attaches to the metal wall.

Steven/Captain Universe kicks Agent 4 away. Agent Rollins comes closer, and Steven/Captain Universe hits him in the neck, then punches Agent 2. He head-butts back to Agent 7 in the face, then grabs his arm that's around his neck and flips him over his shoulder to the floor but also hits the window, making it crack.

Jasper kicks up and hits Steven's cuffed wrist, making Steven's hand magnetize behind him to the metal bar above his head. Steven/Captain Universe goes to detach, but quickly looks at Jasper as she stands up, turning on her electric rod.

Jasper steps forward, swings the electric rod at Steven/Captain Universe who holds his free left arm up and blocks Jaspers arm with his, Jasper quickly recovers and hits Steven/Captain Universe with the electric rod, holding it to the back of Steven's shoulders who grunts in pain from the shocks.

Steven/Captain Universe then elbows Jasper back. Agent 5 goes to punch Steven/Captain Universe, who leans back and backhand-punches him back, making him hit the elevator camera.

Controls Monitoring Room

Gunnar is standing beside an agent tech specialist named Cameron Klein, who is sitting at his computer monitor in a control room, watching Steven/Captain Universe being attacked in the elevator from the elevator cameras on the monitor in front of them.

Gunnar orders in his small wire radio in his left hand, "Mobilize STRIKE units, 25th floor."
