Hello everyone! I want to say that it feels good to be back home after vacation. It was great but man, does Florida have alot of toll roads. Anyway, welcome to chapter six of Hazbin Potluck! Today we are looking at what Husk has planned for the potluck. I wonder what it could be. Anyway, I also want to say thank you for the nice reviews that you have left so far and to tontheoffbalance, that was definitely a fun fact. I didn't know that about Niffty. So, enough rambling from me, enjoy the chapter and I do not own any of the Hazbin hotel characters or the recipe in today's chapter. The characters belong to Vivzepop. Enjoy!
Husk's Porcupine Meatballs
Husk went back to the bar, grumbling about the potluck. "How does she expect me to come up with something when I don't even remember last week?" he said to himself. He cleaned the bar and counted the inventory before pulling out a deck of cards. After shuffling them, he laid them out in a game of solitaire. While he played, he tried to think of a recipe from when he was alive. "What would be good?" Husk asked himself as he placed three diamonds over a four of hearts. He continued to think while he finished his game. "Ah, it may not be much, but at least it's something." Husk said, finally remembering a recipe. "I can see how they'll like Aunt Betty's porcupine meatballs."
Husk put the cards away and took out the notebook that he uses to keep count of the inventory. "Alright Aunt Betty, let's see if I can remember what your recipe is." Husk said, starting to write. He wrote down that he needs one can of condensed tomato soup, ½ cup of water, 1 ½ lbs of ground meat, one cup of uncooked rice, one tablespoon of minced onion, one teaspoon of salt, and a dash of black pepper. While he looked over the recipe, he recalled flashes of a cozy Las Vegas home. "Annd, is this your card?" a young boy asked, holding up a random card. "Yes, that is my card. I say, you are getting very good at this card trick Misha." Aunt Betty said, before opening the can of tomato soup and mixing it with the water. "Thanks Aunt Betty! Do you think mom will let me come show the other magicians?" Misha asked. "Maybe, now put the cards down and come help me." Aunt Betty said.
"Heh, good ol' Aunt Betty. Glad that she was able to help Ma. Now Let's see. After she mixed the soup, she mixed the ground beef, rice, onion, salt, pepper and half a cup of the soup mixture before shaping them into balls. Jesus, Angel's going to get a laugh out of this." Husk said as he thought back. "Aunt Betty, do you think that I'll be a great magician one day?" Misha asked as he watched his aunt put the prepared meatballs in a large skillet over medium heat. "I'm sure that you'll be the greatest magician that Vegas has ever seen. But here is some advice, don't forget to practice. Even when you get to the top, practice so you can't be knocked off." Aunt Betty said as she added the remaining soup mixture to the pan and brought it to a boil.
Husk looked down at what he wrote and grimaced. "Damn, I didn't mean to write that down." He said to himself when he wrote down the advice that he was given so long ago. "Sorry Aunt Betty. I tried to follow your advice, but it didn't work out so great." "Boo, get off the stage! You're washed up! Some old hasbin!" the audience heckled as Misha walked off the stage in one of the casino show rooms. "Damn, this is getting ridiculous. Maybe I'll try doing card tricks in the lobby instead. At least that'll entertain the kids." Misha thought as he took his stage costume off.
"At least I'm still good at cards, heh." Thought Husk as he wrote down about simmering the meal for twenty minutes until the rice cooked and the meatballs were thoroughly browned. "Damn, how did you pull that off?" one poker player asked as Misha revealed his hand. "Lots of practice man. Lots of practice and luck." Misha said as he pulled the pot towards him. "Damn, what am I going to do now?" the player asked, "My wife is going to kill me for losing the kids college funds." "Well," Misha said, grinning as he played with a poker chip, "I'll play another round with you. Give you a chance to win at least some of it back."
"And look where it got me. Got me landed here in hell." Husk grumbled as he put the pencil down. He reached under the bar and grabbed his favorite bottle of cheap booze. Taking the lid off, he drank on it as he thought back to the last time, he saw his aunt alive. "Misha, why did you quit performing?" Aunt Betty asked, trying to take a sip of her tea. "Times changed Aunt Betty. I'm still doing card tricks for in lobbies. The kids get a real kick out of it." Misha said, helping his aunt. "I'm glad that you are still doing something that you love my dear boy. I have something for you." Aunt Betty said, pointing to a bag on the table next to the hospital bed. "I'm sorry that I missed your birthday, but better late than never huh?" she laughed. Misha grabbed the bag and opened it, pulling out a deck of sleek playing cards. "I had these made special. Each one has a picture of where you were when you were traveling." Aunt Betty said, smiling.
"Aunt Betty, you shouldn't have done this. This had to have cost you all your savings." Misha said, looking at each card. He saw on the back of each card had a picture of where he had traveled to and wrote to her from. "Nonsense, every card player deserves a special deck of cards." Aunt Betty said, before coughing. "That was the last time I ever saw her." Husk said, pulling his deck back out. The cards were worn, but he could still make out the pictures. "Hope you are doing ok in heaven Aunt Betty. Maybe Uncle Harvey is up there too." Husk said before finishing the bottle and getting out another.
What Husk didn't know was, Dazzle was hovering above the bar and saw Husk writing his recipe down. He then flew off to tell Charlie what he had heard. "Really?" Charlie asked, looking at Dazzle surprised. Dazzle nodded before flying off to find Razzle. "Hmm, I think I have an idea of what dessert I can make for him." Charlie said, smiling. "Oh I can't wait!" Charlie thought, smiling bigger.
Hello everyone! I hope you enjoyed the chapter! I know that we don't know much about Husk yet, *fingers crossed for more backstory in season two* but I took what I looked up about him on the fanwiki page to help write this chapter. I know that deck of cards that are mentioned in this chapter don't look like what he uses in the show, but I figured since Husk is a card player, he would have multiple decks of cards. Anyway, if you like this chapter feel free to leave a review and I'll see you all next week when we get to see what Alastor has planned. Until then!
