The Magic Within

Prologue

Wonder Woman looked on at a local high school in San Francisco as she saw a group of cheerleaders walk down the halls, preparing for the annual pep rally. She was dressed to blend in with the rest of the school crowd, not willing to bring out attention.

She looked on at the crowd in the hallways. So far, the students appeared to be normal. The cheerleaders seemed to be okay as other students were staring at them with awe.

"Those girls are so ready for the pep rally tonight!" one boy exclaimed.

"I totally wanna party with them!" another boy added.

Wonder Woman couldn't help but to sigh and roll her eyes. She perked up as she observed the two teenage boys were making there way to another room and decided to follow them as she was starting to suspect something with those two boys. Maybe it was her imagination, but she still had to remain on guard for this mission.

Wonder Woman followed the boys to what appeared to be a janitor's closet.

"Got a spare dollar?" the first boy asked.

"Sure," the second boy answered as he gave the boy the dollar, "Help yourself."

"Thanks."

Wonder Woman sighed with relief. The teens were just buying soda.

"There was nothing to worry about here," Wonder Woman said to herself as she left the closet, "I just hope those boys are not trespassing by being..."

She was interrupted when she heard a loud scream coming from the hallway. Wonder Woman hurried to the scene to find the red headed cheerleader screaming in terror as the rest of the cheerleaders were on the floor, appearing to be having seizures.

"Seizures." Wonder Woman gasped.

"Help!" the red head screamed, "Help us! Somebody, help!"

Wonder Woman looked up and saw a boy with sandy blonde hair wearing a gray shirt. That boy was suspicious as he appeared to be dressed like one of the cult members the Justice League had been hearing about.

Metropolis

Superman, dressed as a civilian, looked on as he was at the local library observing a blonde teenage girl and a raven haired teenage boy talking to a heavyset teenage girl.

"Give me a break, Erica!" the raven haired boy exclaimed, "you knew where that missing boy scout was and you didn't say anything!"

"Also," the blonde girl added, "you and Harold aren't really dating."

"Yes, we are," Erica insisted, "We're in love."

"No, you were playing a game," the blonde girl insisted, "Role-playing."

"That's what you don't get, Max and Allison," Erica retorted, "it was more real than you would ever understand."

"Come on now, Erica," Allison replied, "we're only trying to help you, but you have to stop lying about everything."

"I'm not lying." Erica insisted.

"All right then," Max replied, annoyed, "why don't we take a little trip to the sheriff's office to put that truth on record, if you insist this is true."

"No!" Erica stood up, "If we tell any authority figures about this, he is going to get very angry."

Superman glanced on in confusion as Max and Allison were also confused.

"Who?" Max asked.

"What happened to James...he tried to explain what happened, and..." Erica answered before suddenly stopping mid sentence.

"Erica?" Allison tried calling her name. No response.

"Erica?" Max tried this time. Again, no response.

"Oh my god!" Allison exclaimed as Erica lifted her left hand up.

"She's having a seizure!" Max exclaimed in shock.

"Call an ambulance!" Allison stated in worry, "I'll stick with her!"

"Help!" Max yelled in panic as he grabbed his cellphone to call an ambulance.

Superman quickly followed the glance that Allison was making and noticed a strange looking young woman with sandy brown hair wearing a gray shirt. That girl seemed to be suspicious, one of the cult members the Justice League had been tracking for some time.

"She's one of them." Superman muttered.

Gotham

Batman observed a woman walking down the streets talking on the phone.

"Of course I will be there for my niece's party next week," the woman said on the phone, "I know what she is wanting, of course. Just..."

The woman shrieked upon seeing a homeless man suddenly approaching her.

"I'll call you back!" the woman told the person on the phone before hanging up, before facing the homeless man, "What do you want?!"

"Uh, nothing," the man answered nervously, "Just some change, ma'am."

The woman suddenly gasped and started to back away from the unsuspecting man, "Get away from me! Get away!"

Batman perked up, "She must be hallucinating."

"Follow her," Oracle ordered, "Something is happening to her."

He followed the woman, who was running to her car. She stopped just before she approached the door to her car, appearing to have frozen in place.

Batman looked on in surprise, "Just like before."

"Just like with Nightwing, and Spoiler." Oracle said, "Rick and Kshin as well."

"Only Rick didn't have the seizures they had." Batman replied.

"That's besides the point."

Moments later, the woman fell backwards to the ground and started convulsing. Batman rushed to the woman's side and placed her on her side.

"An ambulance is being called right away." Oracle informed Batman, "Stay with the woman until they arrive."

"Will do, Oracle." Batman replied. He looked at the convulsing woman and assured her, "Don't worry. It's going to be okay."

-The-Magic-Within-

Batman watched the screens of all the recent events of people hallucinating and having seizures. With him were Superman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman, John Stewart's Green Lantern, The Flash, Martian Manhunter, and Hawkman.

"These events that you see before you happened to law abiding citizens," Superman explained.

"Most victims of the seizures claimed to have seen nightmare visions beforehand." Wonder Woman added.

"Any clue what's causing it?" John asked.

"No idea." Superman answered, "It's suspected to be this mysterious cult involved, Cult X. That's all we know so far."

Wonder Woman pressed a button on the control and revealed, "This pattern is repeating all around the world, given that it is a supernatural cult involved. We just need to figure out what the purpose of Cult X is and how we can stop it."

"Are you talking about a magical cult?" Batman asked.

"We've come up against magic before, Batman," Wonder Woman interjected, "Xerxes, Trigon, Felix Faust."

"Even Shazam's powers are based on magic." Superman added, "with as much as you seen, can you rule it out?"

"The criminally insane don't need magic as an excuse," Batman replied as he stood up from his seat, "I recommend spending more time on the streets instead of flying over them."

-The-Magic-Within-

"How's the rest of the Bat Family?" Bruce asked Alfred and Barbara.

"Tim, Jason, Kate, Cassandra and I are looking deep within who is behind Cult X." Barbara explained.

"And what about Dick and Stephanie?" Bruce asked, "they were affected with the seizures like Rick and Kshin."

"They are recovering quite well and should be back on duty soon." Alfred answered, "Master Dick tried to get back up after he came to, but I would not allow it."

"Good man." Bruce replied, "I'm going to clean up."

Bruce walked to the bathroom mirror as he proceeded to shave his face. Suddenly, the mirror was fogging and there was a mysterious chill in the air.

He looked around the room for a moment before looking back at the mirror, which now read the words, CONSTANTINE.

Bruce hurried to his bedroom which also had the words Constantine all over the room. He realized what he had to do now.
