Sawyer's Vicious Past.

As she scrubbed her overalls, wiping away the blood and bits of skin - if she had been alone then she would have tried to use a cleaning spell, but since her unsavoury job as a cleaner in Roanapur meant more than one client would visit her, she did not want to run the risk. Oh sure, there was a hidden runic cluster embedded in the ceiling just outside the door to give her an added early warning, but the less risks she took, the better off she would be.
As a reincarnated witch, Sawyer knew she could wipe the memories of anyone who came in, but after what happened in her original incarnation…
No.
It was just not worth the risk.
On that occasion, she had been lucky to escape before the Aurors in the MACUSA, at the behest of Dumbledore before he was ousted by the ICW when his crimes because of his association with Grindelwald had come to light, and his inner desires for controlling people like her made him sound more like a control freak and a prison warden more than a statesman.
By then, it was too late.
At the time she had been travelling the world, minding her own business, on the move all the time when she used a spell in America. There was nobody about at the time, and there was nobody and nothing witnessing her actions before a full force of Aurors just appeared out of nowhere. Aurors, dark wizard catchers.
Okay, so she didn't have a clue right now if the magical world was still chasing after her like they had before, it had been a long time since anyone had sighted her previous incarnation and she wanted to keep it that way, but there were times where she would like nothing better than to jump into a different body, and just erase her memories of the magical world forever, just to get some peace.
Sawyer continued her scrubbing, turning a quick glance at the cut-up pile of gore in the dark, filthy metallic space she had been given to work in. What a life this was for her. Sometimes she wondered if fate had deliberately decided to ensure she grew up in a living nightmare, especially in this incarnation of hers.
In her original life, she had been a boy. She was also born a wizard, making her a witch in her new life, her current one. Her real name had been Harry Potter. Her parents were murdered by a Dark Lord known as Lord Voldemort. The magical world had been fighting a long war against Voldemort at the time, and her parents had been on the wrong side, so much so they had stubbornly refused to leave the side they had followed since leaving Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry and they had joined a group run by their former Headmaster. Their heads had been swelled by their headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, the same Dumbledore who had spent so long hunting her down in other countries before things went too far.
They didn't even run away or change sides when a prophecy was made before her original birth, something Sawyer would have done in a heartbeat for her own kids. They were murdered, paying the price for their stupidity while their child was dumped on an abusive doorstep. Over the years, as Harry Potter, she was forced to cook, garden, and clean the house. She was unpaid free labour.
Her relatives were more than aware of the magical world but instead of being logical and realising the danger inherent in attacking a wizard, they stupidly starved and beat her. By the time she was 11, she was jaded and cynical of the world, and she was extremely sceptical of Hogwarts when she learnt of it. She had learnt a lot from her first visit to a magical shopping alley, although she had needed to return by herself to do it, since one of Dumbledore's lackeys had taken her there, and watched her every move, even restricting her collection of knowledge.
As she had walked through the street with the lackey, Harry Potter had made the decision to try to leave Hogwarts as soon as she could. She had learnt enough of the school to find out where to find information; when she had lived with her muggle relatives, they had come close to killing her more than once, and it was only blind luck - she still was not a hundred percent certain if it were her magic that saved her, or if there was outside intervention saving her; she had discovered a long while back before going to Hogwarts the existence of the magical world and how some had made sure she stayed with her relatives, even wiping her memories every time she tried to escape them.
In secret, she explored the castle of Hogwarts. She learnt more about the secret history of Lord Voldemort. She discovered that while he had gone insane, he had originally planned on making a bigger mark on the magical world; it was only because of the fact he had split his soul to become immortal himself that he went mad, and went on a genocidal rampage.
Sawyer had gone through her first two years at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry; thanks to the goblins, she had stopped herself from being controlled by potions and spells, so she was more or less immune, but the idea of being mind controlled and brainwashed by the teachers was terrifying, especially since any of them could be paedophiles. Well, one of them was; even now, secretly killing Lockhart was a pleasure.
Sawyer changed her name after she left Hogwarts after her second year. She had also had her appearance changed and the magic in her scar was removed so then Dumbledore couldn't track her down. She'd had more than enough of the school, and she had gone to a different magical school. She had decided to attend Castelobruxo in Brazil; she had been tempted to go to Ilvermorny in America, but the school just had too many similarities to Hogwarts for her liking.
She had left armed with tonnes of stolen magical knowledge. And for years, Dumbledore and his associates, which soon included her own godfather, Sirius Black, tried hunting her down. Sawyer truly didn't understand why; sure, her goblin contacts had discovered and removed a piece of Voldemort's soul from her head and actually drained it, rendering his followers dead and the Dark Lord gone for good, but even when they had revealed what Voldemort had done without mentioning exactly how he'd done it, Dumbledore still came after her.
The old man constantly came up with scheme after scheme to have her brought back to Hogwarts, and even when she turned 17, she couldn't get away from him. Even when she travelled the world, Dumbledore kept putting out feelers for her. In the end, she decided she'd had enough, and her decision to use essence transfer to jump to a new body couldn't have come at a better time because Dumbledore was sending out wave after wave of Hit Wizards after her; the old man's excuse was that she, as Harry Potter, was too powerful and that kind of power would turn him dark, and since he had left Britain, it was inevitable.
Even her godfather agreed with the stance, and they hadn't even met!
Sawyer frowned as she remembered those grim days as she travelled the world, and those even grimmer days when she had emerged in her new incarnation, this time as a girl. She'd had a relatively happy childhood, and she had been down for Hogwarts, but she had brainwashed her muggle parents to send her to Beauxbatons in France instead. Too many bad memories. After leaving school, she'd lost her voice in a 'mistake of love' to a so-called lover, who had cut her throat. She'd killed the sonovabitch, but by that point, it was too late. She could have used essence transfer again, but she decided to let herself adapt to her new circumstances.
Becoming an assassin/cleaner/disposal of corpses was not what she had envisioned of her new incarnation; she had wondered if she would be…an artist, a musician, an author, whatever. She had come to Roanapur, and she had quickly gotten work here, and while it was well paying she hadn't really enjoyed it at first, not until recently.
Sawyer knew this would not last, this life. And a part of her could not wait.
