Jamie looked up when Doctor Jacobson entered the room with a grim look on his face. Eddie was running a hand over Patrick's tiny head and watched him sleep. He'd been kept in a separate room away from the other babies in case he had something serious or contagious.
"Just came to check and see how he's doing."
Eddie didn't even look up. She was so focused on Patrick she hadn't even noticed Doctor Jacobson come in. Jamie looked Doctor Jacobson in the eye.
"Any news on what's going on doc?"
Doctor Jacobson rolled up a stool next to the open and heated bassinet and sat down on it.
"He doesn't have diabetes. His glucose levels are normal. We are screening his blood to see about other possible metabolic disorders. Could also be a virus."
Jamie nodded and made sure Patrick was still snuggled into his blanket in his heated bassinet.
"So, you're saying this could just be a virus?"
Doctor Jacobson nodded seriously.
"It's possible. Did he have any issues when he was born?"
Jamie tried to reach back into his memory and shook his head.
"No. He was born by C-section. Could that have been an issue?"
Doctor Jacobson shook his head.
"No unless he was in distress when he came out of the womb."
Jamie shook his head no.
"He came out of the womb screaming. I was the one that delivered him."
Doctor Jacobson looked at Jamie for a moment with a slight surprised look on his face.
"You delivered him?"
Jamie gave a nod and smiled.
"I did. As police officers we're trained for any and all scenarios that may come up. Although, I don't think a C-section is on the list."
Jamie immediately felt his defenses go up as Doctor Jacobson gave him a look.
"I heard about Doctor Lancaster. What a shame. She was the be OBGYN in this hospital. So many children. So much money. How could anyone say no to that?"
Jamie felt his defenses going up further and he immediately placed himself in front of Patrick and Eddie. Eddie leaned over the heated bassinet in protective mama bear mode. Looking up, she looked Doctor Jacobson in the eye.
"We would like to see another doctor. Please leave."
Doctor Jacobson left the room and Jamie; Eddie and Patrick were now alone. Eddie felt her hands shaking as they hovered over Patrick's bassinet.
"Jamie? What was that? We need to find a doctor we can trust. Do you think he did this to him?"
The wheels in Jamie's head were turning and the pit in his stomach returned.
"The puzzle pieces seem to fit Ed. He might be poisoned with Aconite. The same poisonous flower you were poisoned with."
Jamie pulled out his phone and dialed a number. Eddie gave Jamie a puzzled look for a minute.
"Who are you calling?"
Giving Eddie an apprehensive look, he put a hand over his phone and spoke.
"Getting some other uniforms down here to guard the door and this floor. We need to protect Patrick."
It was about half an hour before some uniforms showed up outside Patrick's room. He hadn't expected his father to knock and enter the room.
"Son? I heard about what happened to Patrick. What's going on?"
Jamie took a breath and took a seat on the stool that Doctor Jacobson vacated half an hour earlier.
"I have reason to believe that Doctor Jacobson may have poisoned Patrick with Aconite."
As Frank was about to say something, Danny walked into the room.
"Aconite is a type of flower that messes with your heart and lungs. I looked up Doctor Jacobson kid. He's not a doctor in this hospital or in any other hospital in the city or the entire country. In fact, he's not even a doctor at all. He's a car salesman from Jersey. He's one of Rolanil's personal hitmen. Number 2 to be exact. His rap sheet goes back nearly 3 decades. I've got him back at the precinct sweatin' in the box right now. I'll crack him. In the meantime, I'll find the two of you a new doctor for my nephew. Don't worry, we'll make sure their a real doctor and not some fake trying to off one of our family."
Jamie gave Danny a look.
"Don't worry kid, I'm all over this. No one messes with our family and gets away with it."
