Summary: "Don't keep me waiting, time manipulator." Those words were full of spite, a threat left hovering in the air as she walked off. Takemichi knew the dangers the ex-yakuza possessed, especially when she recalled both present and past. Though, with her ties to Izana, he had no choice but to test his luck. By some miracle, she seemed more benevolent in the past despite her status.

Pairing: Izana/Kagome

Chapter One

"You can't deny that there's something strange about 'em…"

Gleaming blue eyes remained focused on the figure that seemed entirely unaware of the attention placed upon him over the distance. Kagome folded her arms across her chest, the jacket resting across her shoulders swaying some. She shifted her weight on her feet, swapping to have one foot behind the other as she leaned her weight against the brick wall behind her. She kept her gaze glued to the dark-haired man. He didn't look that much younger than herself. Something in his aura made her eyes narrow.

"Wouldn't you agree, Mother?" He'd leaned a bit closer upon uttering those words, his tone straying to a whispered murmur. It wasn't long before her silence broke.

"He's meddling with time," she responded, her eyes fluttering closed as she huffed. Her grip on her own arms tightened just a bit more in frustration. It wasn't apparent on her face, but it was noticeable in the way her posture stiffened. "But… more than that…-" she trailed off, her eyes once more narrowing as she returned her attention to the boy with dark hair. "I feel as though I've met him before."

That comment caused the auburn-haired demon to glance at her. He titled his head to the side in mock innocence, his smile hiding the lethal temptation that always seemed to rear its ugly head when it came to men and them knowing her. "Huh?" Shippo hummed. "Are you sure?"

"That's not an incentive for you to push him," she responded in a flat tone. A mock pout pulled at his lips as he mirrored her stance in folding his arms across his chest as she chided him. Either way, he wasn't swayed from the temptation entirely. It was only a minute or two later when she noticed him now on his own, the other man with him seemingly going into a building to talk with someone. With that, she took her chance.

She moved, her steps precise and sure as she made her way down the sidewalk. It was late at night, and most of the nightlife could be found in the bars on the walk. Those who loitered outside were unaware of anything happening around them. She wasn't surprised when Shippo fell into pace immediately behind her.

Her heavy combat boots thudded against the ground, swiftly alerting him to her presence. Soon enough he'd glanced at her, and her eyes matched his own blue. Though both were blue, their eyes differed vastly. He was wide-eyed and naive, while she was calculating and perspicacious. It was clear when he was startled by her presence, but her porcelain expression didn't so much as crack as she matched his gaze with her own icy one. She saw recognition flash through his eyes just as she felt a familiar burning ache from the jewel draped around her neck to rest beneath the collar of her shirt.

"I…- You…-"

Kagome didn't say a word as she let him work through his own state of bewilderment. She was well aware that the glares from Shippo didn't help his notably demure personality, but she opted to entertain the reaction it got out of him for a while longer.

Despite her shorter stature, she took a step closer until she'd more than gotten into his personal space. He tried to backtrack a step, but the wall behind him got in his way. She craned her head to the side as she silently waited for him to say something, anything more. When it seemed the gall had left him, an icy smirk broke across her face as a snide laugh got snagged in her throat.

"No, now I remember," she mused softly, getting a better look at his face and a better read on his aura. "Yo, time-traveler," Kagome remarked, lifting a hand in a casual wave. Her tone, however, was enough to freeze him to his spot. "What a nice surprise it is to run into you here finally." It was clear what she meant- that it was nice to finally run into him in the present.

Takemichi froze, hating how a tremble had started in his knees already by her presence alone.

"Here you had me thinking there was another one of you," she remarked, her smile far from friendly as she reached a hand up to tuck a long lock of raven hair back behind her shoulder. The crescent moon mark seared into her skin along the side of her neck became visible. Her grin was wide, her teeth sharp and gleaming.

"..."

Kagome craned her head to the side, neat brow arched. "Awfully silent, aren't you?" she mused. "You know who I am," she stated in a decisive tone. "I can see it in your eyes, just like I can feel it seeping from your pores." Her smile shifted some, an air of arrogance sweeping around her. "Hmm? What's wrong? Cat got your tongue?"

She felt the aura of the other man in the distance. He was coming back out, but she didn't let it frazzle her any. She heard her phone chime with her message tone- each one preselected to fit a specific person. She knew he wouldn't mind waiting a minute or two before she'd answer, and if he did, oh well.

The door beside them opened, and out walked the dark-haired man that'd been with him moments ago. He was surprised to see them, immediately falling on edge when Takemichi looked at him with anxiousness in his eyes.

"Oh, you must be his friend," she purred, swapping focus to the other. "You see, we're really good friends here," she continued. "We have quite a bit in common, one could say."

"Who are you…-?"

She laughed under her breath, letting her gaze sweep back over to the other, as if inviting him to be the one to say something. "You're awfully silent," she mused. "Would you like to do the honors?" There was a lingering threat in her tone, her eyes seeming to shine a bit more silver under the moonlight. Just like the mark on her neck, the moon in the sky was a perfect crescent.

"Y-Yakuza…-" The word was shaky, and it was almost as if he was hesitant to say it at all. Kagome clicked her tongue and shook her head.

"Don't get ahead of it now," she remarked. "Formally I was, but not any more. Although my Aniki is…-" she trailed off, tapping at her chin a bit in a faux thoughtful manner. "I have other… affairs that I'm far more caught up in."

Once more, her phone went off. An impending sign of developing impatience. Shippo recognized the tone, and he folded his arms across his chest with a huff.

"Izana's a bit too clingy with you, don't you think?"

Kagome arched a brow and glanced at him. "That's awfully funny coming from the likes of you, you know."

He wasn't fazed by the remark. Instead, it only brought a grin to his face. "Yeah, but it's cuter when I'm clingy. He's just annoying at this point."

"Y-You said Izana just now, didn't you?" Takemichi asked, catching both of their attention. Kagome glanced at him with a composed expression, silently judging him. "You need to tell me more about him, please….- Listen I'll…-"

"Pass," Kagome cut him off before he could even prepare to make pleas and wagers to her in exchange for petty information. Her smile returned to her face. "What kind of a girl do you take me for here? Did I ever seem like the type to offer favors to my enemies?"

"You're aware you're hindering police investigation if you choose to refuse." That comment came from his companion, and Kagome glanced at him with a half-entertained expression. A second later, she laughed. It was a harsh, sharp sound.

"Is that supposed to frighten me?" she remarked, blue eyes gleaming with amusement. "There's nothing you can do to me that'll make me change my mind." Her comment was snide and reprimanding, almost as if she was chastising a child for acting out. With another short laugh, she turned on her heel, flicking her hand in a wave as she met Takemichi's gaze one more time.

"W-Wait…-!" He reached for her, only to end up knocked swiftly to the ground by Shippo. He hadn't even made contact with her, but he'd ended up knocked against the wall as he gasped for breath. Shippo glowered at him with emerald eyes that seemed a bit too inhuman. Kagome remained unfazed as she turned once more and started walking off, unbothered by what'd happened.

"Hmph." She flicked her hair back over her shoulder, the locks falling to the bend of her knees. "I can't wait to cross paths with you again in the past. Don't keep me waiting, time manipulator."

It was full of spite, the way those words slipped free. There was anger seared into them, blue eyes clouding over. There was a lingering threat to those words, a promise of danger spelled out.

She, just like he, would recall this moment either way.

She wasn't sure why she'd decided to entertain the idea, but now that she had, she couldn't exactly go back. Not when she was already there. She came to a halt on the rooftop, blue eyes landing on the figure seated with his back to her. At first glance, she noticed he looked different, even if she had yet to see his face.

At least… his hair was shorter than the last time she saw him.

Her footsteps were heavy, black boots thudding against the ground under her. It acted as an alert for him to know she was there, but it still had a limited reaction.

"Ne, Izana, what's the meaning of this?" Kagome asked, jutting her hip to the side as she folded her arms over her chest. It'd been a few years since she'd last seen him, and they'd both changed a lot, surely. Her probably more than him, but did it really matter?

She watched as he climbed up onto his feet. When he turned to face her, she found herself recognizing him well. On the inside, she found herself wondering if he had the same ease in recognizing her, as she did him.

"I'm surprised you agreed so easily," he stated as he approached her. "You're usually more stubborn to submit."

"You're just lucky I was able to come alone, or else you'd be dealing with someone you'd rather not. You caught me in a good mood," she remarked. "That might not be the case for much longer, however."

He wasn't fazed by her comment. If anything, it made his smile widen a bit more as his amethyst eyes found her sapphire ones. "I have an offer for you," he stated. Something in his tone caught her interest, and she hummed softly, almost as if she were encouraging him to say more.

"Well, in that case, let's chat," Kagome remarked, clasping her hands back behind her.

After all, she couldn't help but be a little fascinated.

Auroua-chan: Ngl the title of this story is in reference to the Halsey song. It suits Kagome and Izana's relationship rather well, anyway.

Anyway, gonna end this here. Thank you all for reading and I hope you all enjoyed. Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.
