Thrawn had been briefing the Emperor regarding pirates, rebels, and planetary compliance. Once Palpatine was satisfied, he pivoted the discussion toward his main reason for summoning Thrawn.

"I have been developing a weapon that will be tested aboard the Chimaera," Palpatine said as Thrawn stood rigidly with his hands clasped behind his back.

"I look forward to reviewing the specifications," Thrawn responded.

"Yes," Papatine paused, seemingly lost in thought for a moment, "Lord Vader informs me that you are progressing in your understanding of the Force."

"I merely seek to understand the tactical implications."

Darth Vader entered the room along with a human woman wearing the red uniform of an imperial guard with her helmet held under her arm. She was carrying tension in her back and shoulders with downcast eyes. As she approached, Palpatine slid his hand around her shoulders in a familial manner as poorly veiled repulsion crept across her face.

"Ah, Dolya, this is Grand Admiral Thrawn. You will be serving him for the foreseeable future. Grand Admiral, this is Dolya. A unique station for her is being installed on the Chimaera's bridge." Thrawn looked puzzled for a moment. Palpatine took a long slow breath, "There is an ancient technique referred to by some as battle meditation. Dolya has been trained to influence the minds of your allies and enemies on the battlefield, touch your mind to see your vision for a battle, or aid your pilots in executing difficult maneuvers."

Thrawn took a thoughtful moment, "Optimizing the use of a new weapon requires time for understanding and testing."

"Of course, of course," Palpatine replied, "I encourage you to experiment as you see fit. Dolya has been instructed to obey you as she would me. I'm sure that you will find her useful." Palpatine held up a hand, "Now Lord Vader and I have matters to discuss. Your shuttle is waiting to take you back to hangar 3."

With that, Palpatine turned and left the room. Vader stared at Thrawn for a breath, gave a slow nod to Dolya, and followed behind. Dolya's body relaxed as the room emptied.

Thrawn was used to eyes moving across his alien features when meeting someone in lesser space, but he couldn't quite gauge the way he was currently being examined.
