Today was the day. Today marked 12 weeks in the pregnancy of the littlest Ruzek. And while the team had their suspicions no one had verbally confirmed it. They would confirm it today with the team but they still weren't sure how to tell the kids. Luckily it had been a very easy pregnancy, no morning sickness, just some queasiness and some headaches but nothing else. The little one was growing strong and measuring the right size. Kim had awoken first full of nervous energy. Under all the nerves was pure excitement and love. She couldn't wait to tell all their friends about the baby. Even if she was scared to tell Eric, she was beyond thrilled with the baby. After all the shock wore off the excitement rose by leaps and bounds. She watched Adam sleeping but needed him to wake. She needed to talk about the nerves and excitement. It was too much to hold inside much longer.
Wanting to wake him sweetly she decided to start with sweet feather like kisses all over his face. She loved kissing him, loved how comfortable she felt with him. It was beyond her wildest imagination. Though this was her and Adam, always had been. After his face was throughly loved she moved to his neck. She could see his body coming alive under her lips. She smirked before continuing her mission. By the time she reached his pecs he was groaning softly. Not sure if he was actually awake or not she moved to his abs. Running her fingers over them while kissing the skin. His hands moved grabbing her and pulling her closer. Kim squealed with surprise but got her desired results, he was awake. "Morning!" She smiled wide. "Well good morning to you too! I assume you are excited this morning." He could see the happiness in her eyes, it was almost blinding. "Excited but also nervous. I know they will all be excited but until we actually say it I'm nervous. Sounds silly I'm sure." She snuggled closer loving the feeling of his fingers running up and down her spine.
"I'm excited too. I love that I'm a part of this. I love that you wanted to go through this again. And I love the pure joy shining in your eyes right now. You are literally stunning!" He kissed her head but pulled back feeling tears on his chest. "Why the tears?" He asked unsure. "I'm just so happy! This is how I wanted a pregnancy to go. When I feel loved and supported. Even when I cry for no reason you just take it and don't complain. You've even stepped it up more with the kids so I don't have to do as much. It's been amazing, you have been amazing. I just love you so much!" Kim crashed her lips on his. "I love you too! More than I can ever say. Serious question though. Were you serious about getting married right away or was that the shock? You haven't mentioned it since." They had a lot to figure out, he knew that. They found a new house and were moving in less than 2 weeks. It was insane lately.
"Um I mean I would like to be married before this little one comes. But at the same time I don't want to look like a whale in a wedding dress. So I'm conflicted." Kim shrugged. "Well I'm fine either way. But you could never look like a whale. I saw your photos in Allie's book. You looked beautiful. Even at nine months pregnant. I promise whatever you decide I'm good with. I know where our hearts lay so I'm not concerned about waiting. Just let me know what you decide. I support it fully." He kissed her lovingly, pouring all emotion into the kiss. He moved their bodies so she was under his body. He was determined to repay the favor from this morning by kissing her whole body. Her body humming with excitement, coming alive under his lips. Kims fingers grabbing onto his arms loving how they flexed as he moved. He loved on her fully breasts before spending time loving her belly. It was only a very small swell. But he loved touching it. Loved caressing it. Loved kissing it. Kim moaning with pleasure.
Once her body was loved he thrusted inside her. Both groaning at the feeling of being connected. Making love to her, the mother of his children, his soon to be wife. He loved her thoroughly till they came together. It was a beautiful way to start the morning. The couple remained snuggled together till their breathing calmed. "We should shower the kids will be up soon." Kim sighed heavily. "I know. I love being like this with you. But you are right. Let's go." He slid out from her hearing her sigh at the loss of contact. She wasn't alone long before he scooped her up carrying her to the bathroom. "You know I can walk right?" She asked laughing. "Oh I know but I love having you like this. Wrapped in my arms, naked, pregnant with our child." He whispered lovingly. "Good to know." She winked in response. "Alright little sassy pants let's get you clean before the kids wake up." He laughed placing her in the shower.
They both washed off quickly so they could get the kids moving for the day. Adam got out faster, drying off before cleaning up his beard. After Kim exited the shower Adam headed out to get dressed. The bathroom was small, two people getting ready was a tight fit. Their new bathroom was larger with two sinks. He couldn't wait. Once dressed he headed into Riley's room seeing he was starting to wake on his own. "Hey buddy. Good morning!" He picked up his son letting him rest against his chest. It was their favorite way to wake in the morning. He left the room shortly after still holding his son. They headed in to Allie's room seeing her awake and getting dressed for the day already. "Morning Allie cat!" He whispered trying not to startle her. "Morning daddy Adam! Morning Ry!" She all but yelled. "Are you ready for breakfast sweetheart?" He asked. "Yes! I'm starving!" She let out a dramatic sigh. "Okay let's get you some food!" He laughed at the dramatic nature of his daughter.
They headed down the stairs, Riley starting to wake more. "Buddy you ready to eat some?" Adam asked quietly. "Yes please!" Riley cheered. "Oh so that's all you needed to wake up was food?" He laughed seeing his son nodding happily. "Alright. Let's get you some food." He placed him in his high chair and went to make food for the kids. Once Kim entered the room both kids were excited to see her. Allie had been feeding Tiger while Adam cooked. She really had been a big help with the kitten. "Well good morning babies! Thank you for caring for Tiger. I appreciate you being so helpful." Kim kissed her daughter's forehead before kissing Riley's forehead. Both kids giggling. "Eat up darling! Breakfast is ready!" Adam placed plates in front of the kids before placing one in front of Kim. He served himself last. "Thanks baby! I appreciate this so much!" The couple shared a quick kiss before eating their breakfast.
"Hey kids. Daddy and I have something we would like to tell you." Kim waited till both kids were looking at her. "Okay so daddy and I are very excited to let you know that we are having a baby." Kim paused waiting to see reactions from the kids. "Really?" Allie asked almost excited but also very curious. "Yes sweetheart. You are going to be a big sister again. Are you excited?" Kim asked scared to hear her answer. "It's cool I guess. As long as we still get to hang out." Allie sassed. "You know that won't change. It didn't change when Adam and Riley came into our lives and it won't change when this little one arrives." Kim could only hold back the laughter so long at Allie's sassiness. It was adorable at this age but they feared the teenage years. "Okay then it's cool. Is it a boy or a girl?" She asked. "We don't know yet." Kim answered honestly. Truth be told she wasn't sure she wanted to find out. "Riley what do you think?" Adam asked softly. "I don't know. Scary lose you and mommy." He whispered. "Buddy." Adam pulled him into his arms. "You will not lose anything. Mommy and daddy and Allie will always be here. The only change is we are adding another child. I promise nothing bad is going to happen okay?" Adam felt Riley nod but he still held on. "I know buddy. Change is scary for you but you love mommy and Allie. This will be no different okay?" Adam watched as he nodded again and reached for his food.
The couple smiled softly. The kid never handled change well so between this and the new house it seemed too much. Once the kids finished eating Adam took Riley to his room to get him changed. "Are you sure you are happy about this?" Adam asked again. "Yeah. It's okay. It's a lot." Riley sat down looking at his toys. "I know. But in the new house you will have a bigger room. And you can pick the colors. And we will have a bigger yard to play in. It's a good change. We are also closer to Erin, Jay and Drew. So you can play more often okay?" Adam tried to explain but Riley was not even 3. It was hard to explain some things. "Okay." He smiled and moved closer to get hugs and ready for the day. When they returned downstairs he was laughing again which made Kim relax a bit more. After dropping the kids at school they headed to the district to make the formal announcement.
As they entered the district Kim was bursting at the seams and Adam was giddy with excitement. Platt knew right away what was going on and followed them to the bullpen. "Good Morning!" Adam called out when they entered the room hand and hand. No one commented just started cheering, hooting and hollering. The couple was hugged over and over. Well wishes flowed as well as tears. The couple knew the team would be happy but they never expected it to be this joyous. "Okay so how far along are you and when is your due date?" Erin asked as she tried to calm her tears. "Officially 12 weeks and mid November." Adam answered as Kim was still crying happy tears. "Wait 12 weeks? Weren't you guys away 12 weeks ago?" Kevin asked. "Yes!" Adam laughed knowing everyone was figuring it out. "Oh man! Seems like that place is your lucky spot. Congratulations!" Jay hugged them both again. "Thank you! We are both so very excited even if the kids aren't totally on board." Adam pulled Kim into his arms rubbing her back trying to soothe her tears.
"Alright let's get you cleaned up and headed to work okay." Platt took over trying to calm Kim. Kim just laughed wiping her tears before kissing Adam and heading to work. Everyone knew Kim had desk duty going forward and Platt was not going to let her hang out too long. "So man tell us how does it feel being a part of it this time?" Antonio asked knowing it must have been heart breaking not to be a part of it the first time. "Once the shock wore off, it's been better than anything I could imagine. Seeing the positive test, seeing the first sonogram in person, hearings its heart beating. It's been unreal. I'm so thankful she gave me this opportunity. That she was willing to go through this again. I heard how hard the first time was so I was surprised she was willing." He admitted smiling wide. "How's it going so far?" Jay asked knowing how bad Kim had it the first time around. "Great. Just some queasiness. And a few headaches but nothing else. It's been so easy, perfect. We've been lucky that's for sure." He explained. "Sounds great. I'm so happy for you both. I haven't seen Kim this happy since the first time you guys were together. This is amazing!" Erin hugged Adam again. "I know. I'm so proud of her for how far she has come. It's been months again with no nightmares, no Xanax, no flashbacks, no panic attacks. I'm so damn proud of her. She is truly my miracle!" Adam wiped his tears as he spoke.
"That's great man really. We are all so very happy for you both, your family. It's amazing, really." Voight patted him on the back. "Thank you! We are so very happy with our family expanding. Also moving in two weeks into the new house. It's a lot but we are thrilled. Riley is afraid he is going to lose me and Kim. And Allie thinks it's cool as long as she doesn't lose time with Kim. It's been interesting for sure. We are both concerned for Eric's reaction. But we will manage just like always." Adam shrugged a bit. "The kids will come around. Probably just a shock to them and Riley probably doesn't understand what it really means. Just give it some time. It will all work out." Al knew they would make it work but knew they would both over think the situation. "Yeah I know. Just surprised how they reacted. I had hoped they would be excited. Allie's sassiness was cute this morning but lord help us when she becomes a teenager. It's going to be rough!" Adam shuddered thinking about it.
"Oh yeah Erin and Kim both super sassy in their teens. Good luck man!" Jay laughed walking away from the group. Ducking as Erin threw something at him. The team just laughed and headed back to work. As the day dragged on both Kim and Adam couldn't keep the smiles off their faces. Anyone who walked by either could tell immediately that they were pregnant. Even Upton and Rojas coming through the district couldn't break her spirit. "Hey Officer Burgess! You look great! Congratulations!" Rojas said as she walked to the locker room. Upton just hung her head low as she passed by. Kim just waved in response. She wasn't looking to invite drama in and wasn't looking to make friends with some who insulted her.
Intelligence had been out almost all day but Adam made a point to enter through the lobby just so he could see Kim. He saw her glowing behind the computer screen. She looked beautiful. "Hey darling!" Adam whispered trying not to scare her. "Hey! How's it going?" She asked her eyes still sparkling. "Good, busy but good. How are you doing?" He asked. "I'm okay. A little tired but I'm okay." Kim smiled up at him. "Glad to hear that. I have to get back. Love you both. Take care. Make sure you eat." Adam kissed her before running up the stairs. "Kev running into the locker room. Be right back." Adam headed through the bullpen to the locker room. He ran into the bathroom going pee before washing his hands to head back to work. He stopped when he heard two voices, two familiar voices. "Can you believe she's pregnant? The girl who didn't put out? It's ridiculous!" Upton stated getting changed out. "She didn't do anything to you. She's just living her life. She's happy, she's pregnant and none of that should bother you. Just leave her alone before you get fired." Rojas pushed back frustrated.
Adam left off shortly after heading to Voights office. "Hey Officer Upton is at it again. Can you handle this crap? And can we keep Kim out of it for now. I will tell her later at home but I don't need her breaking down, not today. She's so happy." Adam sighed. "Yeah no worries. I will handle it." Voight calked to Platt right away catching Upton before she left the district. "Upton a word please?" Platt was loud enough that Kim could hear. Upton followed into the back office waiting to hear what this was about. "You got a problem with Burgess again?" Platt asked knowing the answer already. "No I'm not sure what you are talking about." Upton tried to play dumb. "Well just so you are aware the locker room has ears. And it wasn't your partner. You said 'Can you believe she is pregnant? The girl that doesn't put out! It's ridiculous!'. You are once again suspended for one week without pay. When you come back you are on gun buy back duty. Enjoy your week off! You are dismissed!" Platt pointed to the door as Upton left shocked.
She sulked out of the district leaving Kim very confused especially when Platt nodded at her. She wondered if that was about her? She didn't know but she would find out. She saw Rojas leave next throwing a weary smile her way. Now she was convinced it had something to do with her. But it was handled so she wasn't going to freak out just yet. As her shift ended she left to pick up Riley and Allie from school. It was unseasonably warm day, the snow had melted, the ground was drying up. Kim decided a trip to the park was the perfect thing to do. The kids were excited to run around outside without all the snow. The three ran around for a good hour before heading home to get snacks and drinks. Once they were inside again Kim let them have a dance party till the snacks were ready. It was cute watching them create their own dance moves. She loved her little family, though it wasn't so little anymore.
The snacks were consumed over talk about the kids day. They loved school and loved playing with other kids so Kim was thrilled with how well they were doing. With the snacks gone the dance party resumed. Kim took videos of the kids to send to Adam knowing he was working a case and would need something to make him smile. He replied right away letting her know that the kids looked adorable and it made his day. And he was sharing the videos with the team. They could all use a cute video to cheer them up. Kim started dinner around 5:30 sure that Adam wasn't going to make it but the kids needed to eat and so did she. After dinner the kids were bathed and in bed ready for story time. Allie was awaiting the call from her father. "Allie when you talk to your daddy please don't mention the baby. I would like to tell him myself. I think that would be the best idea okay?" Kim begged hoping it didn't back fire. "Okay. I hope he's not mad, like his parents. That's no fun." Allie hated all the tension. While she had talked to his parents over the phone and it had gone better it wasn't fixed yet and it may never be fixed. "Oh sweetheart. He probably will be upset but that will never change the love he has for you. He will always love you and always be your daddy." Kim tried to smile the best she could but it was hard.
Kim handed the phone to Allie as it rang heading over to Riley's room to read him his story. He had already gone potty so this was the next step in his bed time routine. She got him all tucked in before reading the book he picked out. He was already asleep before she finished reading but that didn't stop her. She was stalling so this was the perfect way to kill time. As the book came to an end Kim kissed Riley good night whispering I love you before leaving the room. She saw Allie was under her covers listening to her father reading a book to her. That was not normal but he realized he needed to step it up again so he was making an effort. After he wished her good night Kim followed suit before leaving the room. He a,ready knew she wanted to talk and he sensed it was not a good thing so he stayed in the phone till she was back downstairs with Tiger in her lap.
"Okay so the reason I wanted to talk to you tonight was because we found out that we are pregnant. The new baby will be here in November. And I wanted you to hear it from me. It was the right thing to do." She heard him gasp loudly before sighing heavily. "Well I can't say that I'm happy about it. But I really need to move on. I guess I'm just having a hard time doing that. But I am happy for you both. I know you guys love each other. And I know you guys are happy. And I know this is on me to figure out how to move on. I just haven't been able to. I feel bad that I let you down all those years ago. I just didn't know how to support you. Honestly I wouldn't know how to handle the nightmares today either. I know I wasn't the right person for you but it doesn't hurt any less. Thank you for being honest with me. And thank you both for making this modern family thing work. I don't want to lose my daughter. I really don't. But you both kick my ass when I need it. So I do appreciate that. Um take care of yourself. I will call tomorrow to talk to Allie again. Good night Kim." With that he was gone. She imagined a tougher conversation. She also imagined he would get drunk after this. But that wasn't on her. She was living the life she was always meant to live. With the person she was meant to be with. It felt pretty darn perfect.
She laid with the cat for much longer staring at the tv blankly. It was even playing. But she was zoned out thinking about her conversation with Eric and how truly happy she was. She was sound asleep when Adam arrived home. He found her on the couch Tiger still in her lap. "Hey little dude. Let's get Kim to bed okay? I know she's tired." When Tiger didn't move he picked them both up and started to carry them to their room. Tiger jumped down before getting to the bed. He hadn't wanted to move but he was forced and made his feelings known. Adam placed her on the bed stripping her of her clothes before getting her under the covers. He headed to the bathroom to get cleaned up from the day. It had been crazy busy and he was beat. When he returned he found her still sound asleep. He smiled crawling in next to her holding her tight as he fell asleep. He felt her snuggle closer before he was out cold. Whispering I love you as he drifted off.
