"Wait...an earthquake?! But how?!" Ruby shouted, helping Purple pack the camera.
"Does it matter?! We gotta get out of here!" Lilac shouted back, already stuffing the guns into her bag. "Just finish packing up the tripod and let's go!"
Purple tossed the tripod stand back into the bag and zipped it shut. Ruby grabbed the bag and pulled Purple to his feet.
"Saffron, call your mom! None of us live close enough to take shelter!" Lilac screamed.
The ground cracked beneath them.
"Ruby, run!" Sage shouted.
Ruby and Purple continued chasing after them. "Come on, almost there!"
Another crack. This one opened the ground wider.
"Shit!"
"Ruby!" Purple jumped to grab her, but missed.
And fell.
"Purple!"
"Ruby, grab him!"
Ruby snagged onto Purple's bag, but lost her grip.
"Fuck!"
Ruby couldn't see him anymore.
All she could hear were police sirens as the ground stopped shaking.
Lilac didn't know what to say when they finally reached the police station to meet her and Purple's dads after the earthquake had stopped.
At least it hadn't been too remotely damaged. A couple of cracks meant nothing. The building was still standing.
Thank fuck.
But, she had to tell them something. She had to explain to him that by some weird circumstance, Purple fell through a hole and had gone off the radar.
How the fuck could she tell them that? They had nothing of Purple's to back up Ruby's failed attempt at catching him. Nothing but what they had witnessed.
And for all they knew, people would think they were insane.
She heard her dad's frustrated shout. "All these outrageous reports! People falling through cracks and they haven't been found! How the hell does that make sense?!"
Lilac held her tongue. How was she going to explain this?!
"Oh, Lilac! Good, you guys didn't fall victim to these outrageous reports the station is getting!"
"What reports?" Saffron asked.
"Well, we've been getting all these kinds of reports where people fall through the cracks that have shown up as a result of the earthquake that just occurred, and there is no trace of them."
Lilac opened her mouth to speak, but Cornflower spoke first.
"It's almost as if there's these random portals to another dimension opening completely out of nowhere and swallowing them!" He said sarcastically.
"Oh yes, a random hole to another dimension just kidnapped Purple completely out of nowhere." Ruby grumbled, not really getting the sarcasm coating Cornflower's tone.
Sage wanted to smack her for her response, before Cornflower stopped him.
"What now?"
"Oh yeah, Purple fell through the hole like all the reports and we literally cannot find him."
The room took on an eerie feeling.
"Fuck."
"So what your saying is your daughter fell through a hole, and there's no trace of her at all?" Cornflower asked.
"Yes! How can you people not understand that?!" The woman screamed in his face.
"Ma'am, relax. We've had numerous cases just like this, my daughter's friend is one of those missing people, so we're doing everything we can. Your daughter will be found, I promise."
Lilac watched from the police station as her father tried getting everyone to calm down with all the missing people that were being reported, over an earthquake.
"So much for a harmless history project." She said to herself.
