Chapter 3 – A New Kind Of Normal
Summary – Kurt Hummel was in a horrible car accident two years ago leaving him in a coma. For those two years he is yet to wake up and has no idea of what has become of his life, with his family seeing him as offend as possible. But when an old school friend finds out and goes to see him for the first time since high school could it change everything? Could it finally be Kurt's? Wake up call.
Important Information! – Hey all! Welcome back to my fanfiction page! Or if you're new here then welcome to my fanfic page! This is a new story I had a random idea about the other day and I'm excited to write it. I'm not sure how many chapters it will be yet or were it might go but hopefully you will all like it. I have to say I did some research on Coma's and medical things but I have no idea if this will be correct or right in anyway possible so please keep that in mind when reading and don't hate me for it. It is just a story. That being said lets being and thanks again for all the support and love – Emily!
Chapter Three – A New Kind Of Normal
The next morning at 8am sharp Dave was at the hospital ready to pick up Kurt. He had explained his suction to his boss and work and they were happy to let Dave have the time off that he needed. However David's day started much earlier before all of this.
He wanted everything to be perfect for Kurt; so that meant everything, and he means EVERYTHING had to be just right. So at 5am he woke up, had a quick breakfast and started cleaning his house from top to bottom, from the bedroom to the bathroom. When that was done he then did a quick food shop online and took a shower; after all he couldn't go to pick up Kurt smelling like crap.
At 8:20 he was walking to Kurt ward to find him not there. his bed was all packed up ready for the next person to use and Kurt's things that Burt had bought to the hospital from the start of the coma was all packed away in his travel bag.
Juliet turned the corner smiling seeing Dave "Good morning" she said to him smiling.
Dave turned to see her smiling back at her "Good morning, umm do you know where Kurt is?" he asked still smiling.
"Yes" she answered "We have a small garden in the hospital grounds where people can go to take some time out, she walked down there to have his breakfast" she smiled "It's the first door to your right"
David smiled again thanking her and walked down to the door to the garden, his smile got bigger seeing Kurt laying down on the grass looking up at the clouds.
He walked over to him smiling and looked down at him "Hi" he said
Kurt smiled friendly "Hi"
"What you doing on the floor?" Dave asked sitting down on the floor next to the laying boy.
Kurt sighed "I just, I wanted to see outside again. I feel like everything has changed so much since I have been here. I just wanted to make sure the sky was normal I guess" he explained giggling.
Dave giggled back "Yeah I get it. How is it?"
"The sky?" Kurt laughed
David laughed back with him "No. being outside again?"
Kurt smiled sitting up "It feels weird. Like it's the same but different somehow. I don't know maybe it's me. I just…I feel different I wish I could remember more about the past….about you" he blushed.
Dave smiled gently rubbing his hand "I understand. But in time you will, I promise and I can try to explain anything to you that you might need help with"
Kurt smiled holding his hand; it made him feel safer "Can I ask a question?"
Dave smiled; still blushing himself from holding Kurt hand in his own "Of course anything you want"
Kurt smiled "The baby steps thing….it felt…it felt like I had heard you say it to be before. But I'm not sure if it's true"
Dave smiled "Yeah we have said it to each other before. You were in a bar at Lima Ohio with your boyfriend Blaine, you were trying to prove something to Sebastian Smyth I think. Anyway you sore me at the bar and asked me how my new school was. And I said it was okay and that I was just trying to make it through high school at the moment. And then I said –
"Hears to baby steps" Kurt smiled "I remember that now, you had not long come to terms with being gay"
Dave smiled "That's right. But lucky things are different now"
Kurt smiled "A good different right?"
Dave giggled "A great different"
Kurt thanked Juliet and the hospital staff for everything they did for him while he was in there care, and then he got into Dave's car with him driving him to Dave's apartment.
Dave explained as much of his new life as possible to Kurt. Explaining his new job and what he did, some of the student he helped to teach and train and how happy it made him feel.
Kurt smiled as he listened to Dave's word. He was really happy to see that he was doing well and better than he did in high school "So what about boyfriends?"
Dave laughed "What about boyfriends?"
Kurt smirked "Do you have one?"
Dave laughed again "I hardly think that's any of your business to know" he answered back.
"Oh come on!" Kurt said laughing "I've been in a coma for two years, I feel like I have a right to know the gossip and the ins and outs of my friend's life"
Dave laughed "So you're using the coma card on me?"
Kurt laughed back "Is it working?"
Dave smirked "No"
"Dame it" Kurt laughed again.
20 minutes went by and Dave couldn't take Kurt smirking whiled staring at him any longer.
"Okay fine, you win I'll tell you" Dave said giggling.
"Yes!" Kurt smiled
Dave smiled back "No I'm single. I went on a couple of dates but nothing really worked out"
"Oh" Kurt said gulping "Well now I feel bad"
Dave smiled parking the car "No please don't feel bad. It's just how life goes, it will happen at some point with some luck" he said getting out of the car.
Kurt smiled getting out of the other side of the car walking around to get his bag from the boot "Yeah but you're a nice guy. Your kind and funny and good looking, you deserve to have a boyfriend now" he answered back.
David got his bag from out the back locking up the car and unlocking the door "Well thanks but I'm okay, I promise"
Kurt smiled following him inside "If you say so"
Kurt was then knocked over by a big furry animals getting on top of him and licking him to death.
Dave shouted calmly "Down Butterscotch, down!"
Kurt laughed as he carried on getting licked to death by the big dog.
Dave laughed getting Butterscotch back into the house. "Sorry he's just a very friendly guy"
Kurt smiled "its fine he's lovely"
Dave smiled back showing Kurt inside telling him where anything was and that he could help himself to everything he needed. And then handed him a little notebook and a pen.
"What's this for?" Kurt asked looking at it confused
Dave smiled "It's to write things down in. things you remember, you day or your mood. Anything really. Juliet and your dad thought it might be a good idea for you, and then at the end of each week you can see Juliet somewhere and talk about things with her"
Kurt carried on looking at it flicking through the blank pages.
"You don't have to use it if you don't want to though. There is no pressure at all" he added smiling.
Kurt smiled "No I'll use it, it's a good idea, thank you"
David smiled back "Your welcome. Umm I have to write a lesson plan for the students to do with the sub teacher, are you going to be okay a minute?"
Kurt smiled "Of course"
So while David sat in his room on his laptop writing out a lesson plan for the sub, Kurt looked around Dave's living room at his pictures and orderments.
He had so many, from football trophies to pictures of him and his dog. Even some pictures of him and his dad when he was younger. It was lovely.
He then sat down with Butterscotch and watched some Rupauls drag race on TV. It was on the final of season 8 now. When Kurt watched it before he was on season 4 it felt weird but good.
About an hour and a half later he feel to sleep, and two hours after that Dave came down the stairs.
"Sorry Kurt things took a bit longer then-" but he stopped midway through talking when he noticed that Kurt was asleep still cuddled up to the dog.
Dave smiled blushing; reasons like this made him remember why he was still in love with Kurt Hummel after all this time.
But right now he had to push the feelings to one side. He was just Kurt's friend and this was about making him feel better.
Beside, maybe he and Blaine would fix things. Dave though feeling himself turn green inside at the very thought of it.
30 minutes later Kurt woke up and had a phone call of his dad, asking how it was all going.
Kurt explained everything was fine and that Dave was the perfect host. After that Dave ordered some pizza for dinner.
And when it arrived the two ate it sitting on the sofa watching beauty and the beast; and of course sang along to all the songs.
Dave smiled the whole time watching him.
After that they both got ready for bed, Dave getting into his pyjamas, and Kurt taking a bath.
Dave had lend him an oversized shirt which was way too big on his small body to wear as a night dress as they forgot to go to Kurt's apartment to pick him up some clothes.
The two giggled when he came out with it on.
Kurt laughed blushing "It reminds me off my prom skirt"
Dave smiled "Well you look cute"
Kurt blushed. Dave just called him cute. "Thanks"
Dave smiled and led him to his bedroom showing him where anything was, and then headed for the door.
Kurt looked at him confused "Where are you going?"
Dave looked back at him and smiled "To the living room. I only have one bed" he explained "I'll sleep on the sofa"
Kurt smiled "What? No! We could just share"
Dave blushed a bright red "Are….are you sure?"
Kurt smiled also blushing "Oh course, I mean we are both dressed and were are both friends. I trust you"
"I trust you too" Dave smiled still blushing like an idot.
"Well then get in" Kurt smiled lifting up the duvet cover for him to get in.
With that Dave got in smiling. The two said goodnight to one another and Dave went to sleep.
Kurt smiled and made sure he was asleep grabbing his notebook and pen off the floor, opening it to the first blank page and began to write.

Diary or whatever this thing is
Today was my first day of freedom from the hospital and out of the coma I was in. I was nervous about being out of the hospital at first as it seems like everything around me has changed. But nurse Juliet, my dad and mostly David have all made me feel safe and welcome.
David has kindly let me stay at his home and has been helping me with my memory and other things.
He is really kind and wonderful for doing so; I will never be able to thank him enough for it all. He makes he feels so safe and welcome and somehow loved. 3
I know at some point I will also have to speak to Blaine about what happened and get to know more of our story there. but at the moment I just don't want to do that.
I much rather get to know more about David.
I think….I think I like him a bit more than a friend

Kurt smiled happy with what he had wrote and looked at David again sleeping peacefully; could he be falling for him? Maybe his brain was just playing with him. He couldn't really tell yet. All that he knew for sure was that he liked spending time with him today, and wanted more of it for as much time as possible.
He put his notebook on the drawers next to him, turning off the light and went to sleep.
Only time would tell.

Hey Guys! Sorry for the late update again this week, I went into town yertday and by the time I got back it was too late to write and I didn't want to rush it all and just put rubbish out there lol.
