Izuku Midoriya was training hard, or more specifically… he was slowly cleaning a beach like his mentor Toshinori Yagi aka All Might had told him too. Izuku was a thin boy with green curly hair and shining emerald eyes. He was only one month into his ten month 'training program' for his entrance into the most prestigious hero highschool in Japan, Yuuei. All his life Izuku had dreamed of being a hero, but he hadn't been born with a quirk. Quirks were powers that eighty percent of people developed by the age of four, and their emergence led to the current age, the Superpowered Age.
Regardless, Izuku still dreamed, and a month ago he had found a way to make it a reality. All Might, The Symbol of Peace and current number one hero chose him to be the successor of his quirk, One for All. So now Izuku was training in secret to prepare his body to receive the power.
Izuku was at the beach early to get started when a bit of garbage shifted, and his eyes widened in surprise and worry. Curled up shaking and hungry was a girl about his age. She was filthy with ragged clothes and long brown hair that despite the filth seemed to have a burning quality to the color of it. As Izuku approached he felt heat come off her in waves, but he pressed on. When he nudged her, the girl only whimpered quietly. Whether from pain or something else, Izuku didn't know, but he couldn't leave her alone. Gently Izuku reached down and scooped the girl up. Izuku expected her to be heavy and unwieldy since she was at least a few inches taller than him, but he was further horrified to find her surprisingly light, and he felt the girl's ribs and bones through her barely present rags. Feeling a strong determination burn within him, Izuku moved as quickly as he could to find All Might.
Yagi was just arriving at the beach in his depowered skeletal appearance when he saw his young ward rushing toward him with his arms full of… something. As soon as Izuku got close, Yagi immediately bulked up into his empowered form and bound away with them in his arms toward the nearest hospital. All thoughts of training had left both of their minds. All that mattered was getting this poor girl some help.
In truth they didn't do much training at all that week. Izuku and his mother Inko, spent long hours keeping an eye on the girl making sure that someone was always with her, but she didn't respond the first couple days. All Might used his status to make sure that the girl was being properly cared for while they looked for her family, but in the meantime Inko was acting In Loco Parentis. As such they were given a full description of what was wrong with the girl.
She was severely underweight and weak, and without a name, progress was slow on figuring out what happened to her. Thankfully after a day of medication and an IV drip the girl was getting stronger. When Izuku found her, the girl had been suffering from a fairly severe case of the flu and pneumonia, and the doctor made it clear… if Izuku hadn't found her when he did she would have had another day at best.
On the third day, Izuku was awoken by screams of terror and the wailing of fire alarms. When he rushed in, Izuku found the girl awake and trembling in fear as her eyes searched for anything familiar and he saw her beautiful blue eyes for the first time. They had rich caramel centers, and he was caught momentarily speechless by them, but with a kind smile Izuku held out his hand to reassure her, "Don't worry. You're safe now… I promise. My name is Izuku. I found you sick on the beach. Can you tell me your name?"
"Luzura, Luzura Noceda," whispered Luz, and as she trembled Izuku saw gold flames lick and roll around her. They didn't seem to hurt her, but they did singe and scorch everything else she touched, but luckily they didn't seem to spread. All the same Izuku continued to reach out slowly until he was tenderly holding the terrified taller girl's hand. It was warm, and a few flames did get close and singed his sleeve, but Izuku didn't even notice. He just sat down with Luzura and did his best to calm her down.
Unfortunately, that didn't matter much. Even in a world of quirks, finding a child immolating on the floor of a hospital room leads to a few freaked out hospital staff members, but with Izuku's help they managed to 'put her out', and start to get some basic information, until All Might arrived. The girl finally let go of Izuku's hand as she cringed away in abject fear as she returned to trembling and whimpering to not hurt her. For the Symbol of Peace, it was the most heartbreaking sight he had ever seen. So much so in fact, All Might left and returned a few minutes later in his depowered form, but somehow she still knew it was him, and that scared Yagi even worse. Sitting across the room with a friend of his named Tsukauchi, they slowly started to ask Luzura, or Luz as she preferred, some questions, and they were not prepared for what they were about to learn.
(Fifteen years ago)
Camila 'Red Wrath' Noceda was leaving a meeting she had been flown out for with the World Heroes Association. Camila was a shorter woman that hid a fiery temper and strength that most wouldn't expect from such an otherwise kind and sweet young woman. She had tan skin and brown hair, and outside her costume she could easily fade into the crowd if she wanted too. Normally she wouldn't come all of the way to Japan from the Dominican Republic, but this gave her an opportunity to visit her secret girlfriend and hopefully some day fiancee, Edalyne Clawthorne. Since Camila was a hero and Eda a vigilante they kept their relationship a secret, but Camila hoped someday she could convince her love to join her so they could settle down, and end all of the cloak and dagger meetings, even if she secretly found the sneaking kinda fun. It was late, but Camila wasn't afraid. Sure her quirk wasn't very powerful after the sun went down, but she was a formidable fighter. No random mugger could stand a chance against her. She wasn't ready for what happened soon after.
When Eda heard that Red Wrath was found attacked and in a coma the next morning, she immediately rushed over to check on her Dove, but she wasn't ready for what she found. Camila was severely burned over sixty percent of her body, primarily her chest, back, arms, and a good portion of her face and head, and that wasn't the worst thing her assailant did to her. The doctors managed to stabilize her, but they weren't hopeful that she would make it or ever wake up. All the same, Eda never left her side, and no matter how much she hated allowing it to happen, Eda knew Camila's opinions on a few important topics. Nine months later, Eda was crying as she held a frail little blue eyed girl that in the end proved too much of a strain for Camila's battered body. She had held out as long as she could, but as soon as little Luzura took her first breath… Camila took her last.
Eda made a vow though, she would find who was responsible, and she would protect her Dove's final gift with her life. Never once did Eda hold Luz responsible for the situation of her parentage, and she truly loved her with all of her heart. When Luz was only a month old she showed signs of her quirk. Eda was letting Luz play in the park when she suddenly saw a corona of light, and a flash of golden fire. When she went to investigate she found another woman looking slightly freaked out, but smiling with a napping Luz in her arms as she explained how she had seen Luz find a bird, injured and scared, and reach out to it. Flames had flickered from the toddlers finger tips, and for a moment the woman had been afraid that the bird had been roasted, but instead the bird flew past looking perfectly healed. Eda had been so proud of her little owlet.
Over the next few weeks, Eda and the doctors made a discovery and learned something both sweet and heartbreaking. Luz's quirk, Divine Flame, was both a powerful quirk capable of creating intense waves of scorching flame, but also a powerful healing quirk. The reason why Luz had been so weak and frail when she was born, and why Camila had passed away just after giving birth… it was because Luz's quirk was keeping her alive. The reason it took a month for them to see any signs of it again was simply because that was how long it took her little body to recover from months of severe strain. Luz had apparently tried to save her mother, but she just wasn't strong enough, and the fact that she was born at all was heralded as a miracle.
This news had two effects on Eda. If it were possible for her to love Luz anymore than she already had, she did so now, and it caused her promise to find the person who hurt the most precious girls in Eda's life to turn into an obsession. Eda cared for Luz first before anything else, but quickly that obsession became all consuming of everything else. Eda began to isolate herself more and more over the next six years, and it drove a wedge between her and the rest of her family. Then Eda went out one night, and never came home to Luz. Harpy, Eda's vigilante identity, apparently went mad and started attacking flame based hero's, seven by the end, until she finally got arrested after an intense confrontation with the number two hero of Japan, Endeavor.
That had started the darkest part of Luz's life. Her mama was imprisoned in Tartarus, and nobody could figure out why she had done what she did. Half way through her fight with Endeavor, Eda had suddenly turned into a wild owl-like beast, and nobody could figure out a way to turn her back, or question her. While she had been gone, some people broke into their home and kidnapped Luz. For the next couple years Luz was constantly moved about and forced to use her quirk to heal people for large amounts of cash or 'favors', and that was when the abuse began. Her quirk prevented any long term damage, but every strike still hurt. About two years later, Luz was 'bought' by an older gentleman to help his friend. The friend was nearly dead and most of his head was destroyed, but Luz 'was a good girl' and did what she could to avoid another beating. She succeeded in saving the tall man's life, but couldn't fully heal him.
Apparently that had been enough though, because she was given sweets and new clothes for her help, and a few months of peace, but then the tall man in the suit tried to do something to her. Luz remembered black and red lightning and a feeling like she was being torn apart from the inside, and her powers exploded.
She escaped a burned out mansion that night and had been running for her life ever since. Living off of garbage and whatever scraps she could find, and a few times… she got caught, but she always escaped again. Burning her way out through a concrete wall, blasting through a reinforced steel cage, and once she had simply burned down the whole building around her to escape, but each time the man taunted her. He would tell her that he would rip her power from her if he had too, and that the only place she would ever be safe would be with him. He promised her comfort and safety if she simply gave him her power, but Luz always refused. When that didn't work he would show her pictures and tell her about how the man shown, All Might, would kill her on sight for saving his life all those years ago.
By that point Luz was trembling and everyone watched as Izuku came over and held her, seemingly unafraid of the fire or able to feel the heat as Luz's 'cloak of flames' washed over both of them. In a quiet pleading tone Yagi asked the question he hoped he was wrong about, "Young Luz, do you know the tall man's name?"
Luz whimpered, but nodded as she started to cry, "He said his name… was All for One."
For the rest of the day, All Might and Detective Tsukauchi verified what information they could, and each felt their hearts drop further with each piece that fell into place. Some things were impossible for them to know for sure, but it all began coming together into a picture that nearly broke Yagi. In truth the only reason he didn't fall apart was the knowledge that she was safe now. Luz was safe and being cared for by Izuku, a boy he knew was purer than snow. If anyone was going to help this poor girl find some normalcy it would be his successor.
That was another thing Yagi had to consider, All for One wasn't dead like he had hoped, and that meant that Izuku would be in danger if they went through with their plan. In the end, Yagi came to the only decision he could, and still be able to sleep at night. On the fifth day after discovering Luz, Yagi asked to speak with Izuku privately, but in the end he settled for a private conversation with only himself, Izuku, and Luz in the room. Ever since she had woken up, Luz had gotten closer with Izuku, and his presence proved the only way to keep her night terrors away. Normally the hospital staff would have had an issue with two fourteen year old teens basically holding each other as they slept, but the amount of fire damage that occurred the one time they tried to separate them changed their minds.
With a sigh, Yagi started to speak, "Young Midoriya, things have changed, and because of that I need to make sure you know what you're getting yourself into." With that said, Yagi explained the history of 'The Ones', All for One and One for All. How they had struggled against each other until Yagi finally ended it, or so he thought. All Might didn't blame Luz for her part, but she clearly didn't trust him yet, so All Might didn't push. Once he was done, All Might gave Izuku a tired look, "This is your chance kid. I didn't want to send you off to fight this war without giving you the option to walk away. No matter what you choose, I will respect it."
Izuku sat for a long time and took in everything he was just told. He was scared. He wasn't sure he was strong enough to shoulder this burden, but then he looked into Luz's eyes, and he made his choice, "This doesn't change anything… Ok, it changes a lot, but not my dream, not my decision, and not my part of the plan." Izuku gave Luz's hand a squeeze, "Both of you are living testaments to why he has to be stopped. Even without your quirk, I'd still try to become a hero, and I would still protect Luz with my life. The way I see it, moving forward is the only way to make sure we have a chance. You don't have time to find a new successor, and if I'm going to protect Luz… I'm going to need your power."
Yagi gave Izuku a proud smile, while Luz started to cry, "No! It's too dangerous. Just… leave me behind, and hide. I don't want you to get hurt… I'm not worth it."
Izuku shook his head and to the surprise of everyone including himself he gave Luz a kiss on the forehead, "You are worth it, and… I don't want to leave you behind. I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow, but I don't think I'm ready to let go of your warm hand yet."
Luz sniffled, straightened her back, and for a moment she wasn't a scared traumatized girl. Izuku saw a radiant goddess that shined like the sun, and his heart started to race, "I'll do it with you then. They can't have you. Wherever you go… I'll follow."
Izuku chuckled, and flashed the warmest smile Yagi had ever seen, "No, we'll walk this road hand in hand."
Luz blushed and nodded, "You… won't leave me behind?"
Izuku wrapped her in a hug, "Never."
With that decided they all got to work. Izuku might have lost a week of training, but he returned to it with a new fervor that honestly terrified Yagi. Izuku didn't work hard, he pushed himself past the point that should have been possible. Every morning Izuku worked on that beach before school. While he was away, Luz focused on getting healthy and catching up on the school work she would need to join Izuku when he applied for Yuuei. After school Izuku started tutoring Luz as best he could, with Inko's help throughout. At night, Izuku and Luz would make sure that the other wasn't pushing themselves too hard, and more than once Yagi caught Luz using her flames to help Izuku recover more quickly.
After two weeks, Luz was allowed to leave the hospital and was fully released to Inko's care. Since Eda never actually adopted Luz, or was actually awarded any rights over her, and Camila never made arrangements for her, Luz was basically an orphan. They had tried to reach out to Lilith, but she couldn't be found, and Eda's parents were strangers to her. It took time, but after a couple months Luz got comfortable enough to start calling All Might 'Uncle Yagi', and when she started calling Inko, Aunt Inko, both adults had blushed slightly. It was weird at first, but since Izuku's dad had abandoned them over ten years ago, and… he noticed his mom was happier when Yagi was around… that was enough for Izuku. It made keeping Yagi's hero work secret interesting, but it worked. Luz even started training as well, not quite as hard as Izuku since she was still recovering to an extent, but she started out slow and gradually worked up to it under Yagi's watchful eye.
Izuku was adamant that Luz not help him with the actual training, but when he was sleeping Luz still periodically healed him a bit… just enough to prevent permanent damage and help with the soreness. Luz was surprisingly intelligent, if a bit odd in the way she approached some of her studies, but together they got Luz prepared for the big exam. She wouldn't ace it, but she only needed to pass, and that she could do.
With one month to go before the exam, Izuku finished his training, and All Might proudly prepared to pass on his quirk. "It is time, my young successor. Now… eat this hair."
Izuku looked at All Might in horror, but Luz just laughed with her freshly cut brown and crimson hair tied back into a ponytail, "Come on, Izu. It's not that bad. At least Uncle Yagi's hair is clean. I had to eat rats a few times." Luz stuck out her tongue in disgust, "Zero stars. Would not recommend."
Yagi looked horrified, but Izuku just sighed in surrender before he quickly swallowed the hair and stuck out his tongue. Giving Luz a cheeky wink, Izuku groaned, "I think I'd have preferred the rats. At least they weren't doused in hair spray." Luz snickered.
Yagi rolled his eyes, "Sorry, but it's not supposed to be pleasant. I remember when my mentor made me do the same thing, and I didn't make you wait till the end of the day like she did."
Izuku chuckled, "Whatever you say… dad."
Yagi blushed and his mouth gushed blood. When he recovered he gave Izuku a stern look, "Izuku, your mom and I are just friends. I'm honored, but I don't see that happening. I'm a broken, dying, old man. Your mother deserves much better than me."
Hearing that, Luz looked away awkwardly, "Izu, um, I was wondering. I know I'm not pretty or have much to offer, but… I've been thinking. I don't want any of those girls at Yuuei to get to you before I can so-"
Izuku gave Luz an irritated stare, "I don't ever want to hear you say anything like that again." Izuku took her hand in his and smiled, "You're not pretty… you're gorgeous, and you have plenty to offer, though I don't need anything except for what you already do. Luz, I've been thinking too, and I didn't want to pressure you in any way, but… I love you. You're sweet, kind, odd, and a thousand other things that I don't want to live without. Honestly, I'll never be worthy of you."
This time it was Luz's turn to be irritated, "No, you literally saved my life. If anyone isn't worthy, it's me, but… I don't want to fight with you. Do you want to give 'us' a try?"
Izuku smiled, "Nope if we're doing this… I'm doing it right." Izuku got on one knee with a smile, "Luzura Noceda, fire of my soul, would you be my girlfriend?"
Luz chuckled with a tear in her eyes before she cupped Izuku's cheek, "Izuku Midoriya, my hero, yes. Nothing would make me happier… well maybe one thing." Luz leaned down and gave Izuku a tender kiss. When they seperated, Luz gasped, "Zoinks… ugh, why did I say that?"
Izuku blushed, and pulled Luz into a warm embrace, "I think you took the words right out of my mouth. You're an oddball, but you're my oddball, and I wouldn't want it any other way."
Yagi cleared his throat, "Well I guess more congratulations are in order. I'm happy for you two."
Luz just winked, "Ya, I guess you got promoted from uncle to future father-in-law."
Yagi sputtered more blood, "Now, none of that. If you want to make jokes, I can still ground you." Yagi sighed, "I just wish your Mom was here to see this. I know she'd be proud."
Luz snickered and fake pouted, "Zuzu, honey, Daddy Yagi is being mean." Izuku blushed and nearly passed out, making Luz giggle before she smiled at Yagi, "For what it's worth… thanks. I kid, but… it actually means a lot to hear you say that about my mami, and in all seriousness… you shouldn't sell yourself short. You gave so much to bring smiles to so many people. You deserve to be with someone who can make you smile for whatever time you have left, and I think she cares about you a lot. Isn't it up to her if she wants to love you?"
That seemed to catch Yagi off guard, but he decided to not think about it right now. Giving Luz a smile, Yagi shrugged, "Why don't you scoop up the little hero, so we can go celebrate the right way. I'm thinking… katsudon and minty chocolate mochi?"
Luz beamed and started carrying Izuku away like a princess, "I think that sounds great."
The rest of the night was a dazzling experience, and when Inko found out about the change in their relationship she started to cry happy tears. In no time, Inko had declared that no matter what happened… Luz would always be her daughter, even if she never felt comfortable calling her 'mom'. Luz started crying with her, and soon Yagi was the only one not crying as the other three hugged each other. Yagi had never felt more content though.
The next morning, Luz and Izuku watched the sun rise hand in hand while they waited for Yagi to arrive for Izuku's first day of 'real training', and just took a moment to enjoy the quiet with the person that made them feel whole. Sadly, training didn't last long, because Izuku performed one punch and shattered his arm, making Luz scream in terror and start frantically healing him.
The rest of the day was taken up by all three of them researching proper forms and techniques, and Luz giving Yagi the dirtiest look either of her companions had ever seen from her. Yagi occasionally joked that Luz reminded him of his old friend, Camila, but for the first time he saw Red Wrath in her.
The rest of the month was spent making sure Izuku wouldn't kill himself if he flexed his muscles too hard… to limited success. Izuku could 'fight', but if he lost focus for a moment he'd end up with fractures crisscrossing whatever limb he tried to use. The night before the exam, Inko, Yagi, and Luz came together and presented Izuku with a pair of gifts. The adults gave him a set of braces to help take some of the stress off his all too often aching limbs. Luz on the other hand gave him a kiss, and a simple red gold pendant that contained a tiny flickering gold flame. He could hide in his shirt, so no matter where he was, he would have something to remind him that somebody loves him and wants to see him again.
Afterward, Luz was caught off guard when Izuku gave her a passionate kiss, and presented her a small box with an emerald ring inside, "It might not be an engagement ring, but it is a promise. As long as you wear this ring… you have my heart in your hands. I can't think of a safer place for it."
Luz started to tear up before she froze. Yagi came out of a side room with an old, red, well worn bat in his hands, and presented it to Luz. Yagi smiled, "It wasn't easy, but I found 'this' in a random scumbags trophy case. Even if I didn't know how important it is to you… I would have rescued it from that place. I have a collection of mementos that I've collected over the years to honor lost friends… but instead of allowing it to collect dust… I want you to have it. She was my friend, but-" Yagi needed a moment to take a breath to not start crying, "It belongs in the hands of her daughter. I hope it reminds you that you're the daughter of a true hero, and you make her proud just by being you, every day."
Luz closed her eyes and let a small amount of her power flow into her mothers bat, and she could have sworn she felt a warm loving hand on her shoulder. "Gracias Dios por librarme de la oscuridad y regresarme a la luz. Gracias por bendecirme con esta increíble familia. Mami, por favor debes saber que ahora estoy a salvo y que soy amada. Prometo hacer lo que tú harías y protegerlos con mi vida. Descansa en paz mami. Te extraño," Luz held the bat lovingly before she pulled everyone into a tight hug as she cried.
(Thank you, God, for delivering me from the darkness, and back into the light. Thank you for blessing me with this amazing family. Mami, please know that I am safe now, and I am loved. I promise to do as you would do, and protect them with my life. Rest in peace Mami. I miss you.)
The next day, Luz and Izuku walked through the front gates of Yuuei feeling confident and secure in each other's presence. Hand in hand they walked into the room where the practical exam would be explained. A few minutes later Present Mic, a well known pro hero, came striding out like the celebrity he was in his full costume. A black leather jacket, fingerless gloves, and pants with high heel boots. Around his neck were directional speakers for his quirk. Mic tipped his orange shades as he let out a warm welcome to all of the potential students preparing to demonstrate why they were Yuuei material. After a moment Mic moved on to explaining how the test would work.
Each applicant would be released into a testing site where they will compete to wreck robots that depending on difficulty will be worth one to three points. At some point a fourth type of robot will be released. It will be worth no points, and will be the hardest to beat. A natural disaster made of steel. Any attempt to directly attack another applicant would cause them to fail. For fairness people with pre-existing relationships would be seperated to prevent anyone from teaming up. With that, Mic wished them luck, and everyone started to move toward their testing site. Before they separated, Luz gave Izuku a flirty wink, "Whoever earns more points should get a reward… I have something special just for you… if you can beat me." Luz blew him a kiss and walked away leaving Izuku flustered and with a new desire to win.
When the gates opened Luz and Izuku immediately rushed in much to the confusion of the other applicants until they heard Mic start to laugh, "Hurry up, or there won't be any bots left to bust."
For the next few minutes, Luz and Izuku tried to find robots, but they kept getting distracted having to help free or heal other applicants who had rushed, and made a mistake. Near the end, both were disappointed that they had only racked up a few points a piece, but then they felt the ground rumble, and the skyscraper sized zero pointers took the field. Most people ran away, or simply moved out of the way, but not everyone. At Izuku's site a brunette girl with rosy cheeks got pinned beneath some rubble, and Izuku rushed to help her. While in Luz's, she spotted a thin mint haired girl trying to take the zero pointer down without success. Praying that Luz would forgive him, Izuku cocked back his right fist and slammed it into his zero's chin, shattering his arm, but allowing him to safely roll onto a nearby roof. Luz on the other hand focused her fire into a white hot spear of white flame and threw it as hard as she could, melting a hole through her zero, and frying its circuitry. When the buzzer sounded to signal the end both teens collapsed in exhaustion.
Once Luz heard how Izuku got hurt, she grumbled and healed his arm much to Recovery Girl's surprise, and when Luz passed out from the strain Izuku carried his girlfriend away, safe in his arms. In the end, both teens scored exactly twenty villain points much to their dismay. When they got home, Inko smiled at them, and they shared a meager meal. Neither teen felt like celebrating, and any excitement about 'rewards' had evaporated long ago. As they got ready for bed, both of them noticed Yagi hadn't come home, and they both felt like they had disappointed him and each other. As always they found peace in each other's embrace, but even then they still felt like failures.
Over the next week, Inko made excuse after excuse to explain Yagi's absence from their lives, but she noticed her kids just got more depressed by the day. They tried to train a bit the first few days, but after that they just wallowed in self pity. Inko tried to cheer them up, but they just seemed so defeated.
Finally, their Yuuei letter came in, and it was only one… addressed to both of them, a terrible sign in their minds. Together they opened the letter and a holo-recording disk fell out, and it immediately started to play with Yagi in his buff All Might persona up front and center.
"Congratulations, you have been accepted into Yuuei high school for Heroics." Clearing his throat, All Might began to laugh, "I'm sure you're wondering why I am the one letting you know. Well, starting this upcoming year, I will be joining the Yuuei staff in order to prepare all of you future heroes for the trials ahead. Congratulations once again, and I'm looking forward to getting to know you personally very soon." They watched as the image flicked, and a deflated Yagi was smiling a cheshire grin, "Sorry kids, but filming all of these recordings and getting set up to teach is exhausting. Inko told me how depressed you've been since the exam, but you had nothing to worry about." Yagi flicked his wrist and a scoreboard appeared. "You might have only scored twenty villain points a piece, but you more than made up for it with… rescue points. Rescue points were awarded by a panel of judges, that I wasn't on, and you both received the maximum. For the first time in years we have two top scores. You should be proud. I know I am."
As they looked at the scores they both smiled and teared up. It had been close, but they had each ended up earning a combined eighty points each. Third place was a girl named Amity Blight with seventy-eight villain points, and fourth was Katsuki Bakugo with seventy-seven villain points. Neither had earned a single rescue point though. It was at that point that Inko finally burst in, unable to handle the suspense any longer, and both teens happily hugged her as they showed her the leader board.
That night Yagi finally showed up again for dinner, but found himself nearly knocked over by a pair of overjoyed teens who cried happy tears into his sides. With a proud smile Yagi embraced them, and he saw Inko blush at the sight before her. Inko was in for one last surprise, after a lot of debate Yagi finally revealed his other persona, and Inko overheated making the teens roll with laughter as Yagi desperately tried to wake her up.
After that the teens said they were going to bed early, but instead they quietly spied on the adults. At first they were incredibly disappointed, but then things started to heat up. With a small blush, Inko whispered something into Yagi's ear, and he chuckled. The teens watched as Yagi bulked up before lifting Inko like a child and placing her on his lap, and earning an even deeper blush from her. Yagi laughed, and Inko pouted until she smirked and snuck a kiss on his squared jaw. Yagi immediately deflated and coughed up blood much to Inko's horror, and in their rush to separate they ended up with Inko laying on Yagi's chest. After a second they both started to laugh, and Yagi snuck a kiss on Inko's cheek. Yagi left shortly after that, but something felt different, and neither adult was about to complain.
Breakdown: So between work ruining my schedule and not wanting to get too deep into 'world details' yet this might end up being a shorter than usual section, but here we go.
So before anything else, yes, this is a Luz x Izuku story. Don't like it, I can't help you. They're cute, and I'm not sorry. Also, feel free to comment or review with guess's at who Luz's dad is. I'm ready to play Maury any time yall are. So, after careful research I'll give a number to Luz's abuse, 7.9. That would be her BMI at the time she was found, and for context at less that 14 someone can go into organ failure and less then 12 can be fatal. Girl had no body fat, and barely any muscle.
If Luz's quirk wasn't as strong as it is she'd be dead. Fun fact, if Camila had made it to meet up with Eda… well lets just say Luz is conceived that night in every reality, and thus Luz's birthday is a fixed point. Also I wrote a good portion of this chapter just before and on mother's day, and that's kind of messed up. No matter how many times I read this Luz's backstory, I get misty. I hope I'm not the only one. So yes, AFO tried to take Luz's quirk. Why he couldn't will be addressed later, but her quirk is incredibly rare. Also this is this universe's explanation for how AFO managed to survive getting the top of his head blown off, partially. AFO still has multiple healing and regenerative quirks, but Luz tipped the scale.
For clarification, Izuku started crushing on Luz from the time she woke up, but when he promised to protect her, he was doing so as a friend and nothing more. Guys a true hero. Luz on the other hand… it's hard to say when she really fell for him. From the moment she woke up, Izuku was never afraid of her, and was always there when she needed him. He made her feel safe, and for someone who went through what she did… that might be even more important.
As driven as Izuku was to be a hero in the show, we all know he's never more driven than when it's to help someone else. Sure the goal to get stronger and claim OFA led him to work hard, but now that he has a tangible reason to go beyond in the form of Luz and her protection… boy buckles down to a scary level. Why didn't they reach out to Camila's family? Easy, they're all dead. The only ones with any claim at all are Lilith (Luz's godmother) and her dad (who they can't identify). Why not a blood test? Fire quirks burn out the tests by being too unstable, so even if they could get a usable result from Luz, Daddy's isn't on file.
I debated Crikey, but that's Lumity's thing, so I went with Zoinks to be respectful. Also, technically Yagi is Luz's guardian atm. Inko acts as her caretaker, but Luz was never adopted by anyone officially. It'll matter later, potentially, but while she lives with Inko and Yagi acts as her guardian neither has any legal position over her. The only reason this works is because Luz is dating Izuku (which oddly matters in court) and Yagi is All Might, and nobody wants to argue with him about it.
The pendant Luz gives Izuku is called/based on an eternal flame, and in this case is a bit of her fire. I think thats about it except yes this is also a Toshiko story, cuz I think it's cute. Until next time, Shine on beautiful readers. Shine on.
