Y.A.R.N

Flying was always an amazing experience and Drakon loved to spread his wings, A few minutes into their flight he released Surya and the fire-type let out a excited puff of fire before swerving through the air. He smiled as Drakon let out an amused huff at the antics of the Charizard, they often raced with each other through the air over Umbal City and they loved exploring just as much as Noah did. He would've brought out Deadary, but the ghost didn't particularly enjoy flying since — for him — it was more of a function of his existence rather than an enjoyable activity. Noah turned his head and gazed at the mountain that they were circling around to reach cerulean as he remembered the texts he read about the region while deciding where he should go after he left Umbal City.

Even from the sky, Mt. Moon was an impressive specimen of a mountain. Rumors on it varied depending on who you wanted to believe. Some say that when THE Moon Stone fell to Earth, the mountain from the impact was made as the ground rose up to cover it like a regular person's skin covered scabs. Other's claim that it was an asteroid that was controlled by the Clefairy that was an attempt to wipe out all life but failed so when that didn't work they used metronome to create the mountain as a fortress to protect their vessel. A few claimed that ancient civilizations had called upon Arceus for a gift to prove their devotion and the Moon Stone was their reward before they entombed it in a mountain to keep it safe from outsiders. Dozen's of theories banded about, some outlandish and some plausible, but no one really cared so much about why or what caused the mountain to form in the way it did. Many only cared that there was a truly gigantic moon stone with an insane amount of energy that was protected by droves of the fairy pokemon or Alpha and Elder Nidokings and Nidoqueens that lived close to it.

The only reason that was a known fact was because every now and then some enterprising moron got it into their heads that they were going to be the ones who would use the power of The Moon Stone and even capture some of the Alpha pokemon that resided there. That or some researcher ached to know how The Moon Stone was able to exude that much power and somehow produce and create moon stones that weren't part of the original mass.

Few came back from those ventures.

Fewer had proof of what they had seen.

Either way, it didn't matter as Mt. Moon was not the focus of their current excursion, they were off to find a good fishing spot. He knew it would take a few tries, but Horesa was what he wanted and that's was the one he was going to get. Kindra was a badass pokemon and if trained appropriately they would be the storm of ice and hurricanes that would bring other pokemon low. He know that other water pokemon would fill the niche he needed quite well but he had easy access to Kingdra due to his stash of Dragon Scales if he caught a Horsea.

Donated from his own team no less.

He was bushed.

Well and truly tuckered out.

Yet his human had been there with a flavorful and juicy berry and water in hand, ready for eating. Now he was cradled against the human's chest as he and his new pack all relaxed for a bit after pulling up multiple opponents. None of the dragons had been interested in the small fry that he had been catching, but the Nidoran was eager to fight after he had been too tired to keep going. It had been difficult and his human had always inquired if he was sure he wanted to continue, but he pushed himself hard. He had to make sure he wouldn't be a liability if he wanted to fight, and training like this would only help in that regard.

Now, he was very satisfied at his progress under his human's watchful eye as he clashed with some of the water-types that were hauled out of the oceanside they were fishing at.

He had finally mastered his Thunder Shock to the point that it was no longer hurting him in any capacity or draining himself dry with a couple of uses while also increasing its power. Plus, he was getting much faster than he every thought he could get under the battling, learning Quick Attack and practicing with using it to do more than attack. In an leap of brilliance, he could use the speed of the move to evade blows and even propel himself through the air in short bursts, of course it was difficult to orient himself but he could do it. He could feel the evolution beginning to thrum in his bones and sing through his veins, whispering heights he could scale as soon as he was ready.

The words were soft and encouraging, always assuring him he was amazing and he could take as long as he needed but was already so close.

But what he really was hearing was his human's pride in his victories, the pleasant feeling of his hand running over he head and back, soothing as his mother's nuzzle. He was afraid that he would be ignored for his more developed pack mates, but this human never made him feel anything other than adored. The human could've been vindictive or violent, he could have roasted him and then forced him to fight, but he was spared from any retribution from his instinctive attack back in the forest. And when the human waited for him to calm and breathe again, he accepted everyone one of his pack with no reservation and let them scramble about and use him as an impromptu playground. He had seen the smile on the human's face and almost immediately, Stromm understood why Noah's firestorm of a Charizard was so devoted to the human. He rested his head against the human's chest, the steady thumping of his heart acting like a lullaby. He had always treasured the sound of a heartbeat, squirming into where he could hear his mother's heart best back in the pack. His human's heart was louder but slower, a soft drumbeat that made him want to do nothing but rest and surrender to sleep.

So he did.

Noah happily spent the next two days battling with Kezite and Stromm while fishing before he finally managed to pull up his preferred quarry.

That was great.

The obvious surprise and anger wasn't so great.

The Aurora Beam aimed at Noah's face was just downright bad.

Noah dove out of the way before a Flamethrower intercepted and overpowered the multicolored beam as the horsea cried out as it was hit with flames. Immediately a wave of stark horror and dark rage saturated the air as Deadary reacted with flaring his aura, orange licks of flames slipping out from his maw. He slithered through the air from Noah's shadow, eyes alight with rage as he zeroed in on the reeling horsea; he was ready to break its mind and leave it as a brain-dead snack to any opportune hunters. No one touched his trainer unchallenged and that Aurora Beam could've killed him if Noah's reflexes weren't so sharp and Deadary hadn't been paying attention. Deadary may be a mischievous troublemaker, but he loved no less fiercely than his teammates, and this insolent child dared harm his family?

A blur of purple rushed the horsea with a cry of rage as Kezite rammed into the water-type which still hadn't recovered from Deadary miasma of ghostly madness and the pain of the Flamethrower that hurt even despite his typing giving him a resistance.

He was no less incensed than the ghostly dragon and cursed himself for being sloppy about defending his trainer. Exhaustion was no excuse to be lax about the safety of his pack, no matter what the issue could be, he had to be ready. He slammed the water-type away — pumping a good dose of posion from his horn for good measure — from the sands and prepared to pepper the pokemon with poison.

"Enough." Noah said, standing from the crouch his roll had left him in, "He's beaten."

Which was quite true considering horsea was completely unconscious; Noah probably should have been a bit more alert. Wild pokemon tended to be a bit… unhappy that some human would try to catch them and imprison them so a fight was to be expected. It had been so long since he had a challenge to capture a pokemon that he completely forgot.

Kezite's last tackle had been the straw — or boulder — that broke the numel's back and Noah tossed an Ultra Ball at the defeated water-type.

A quick trip to the pokemon center and then it was time to parley.

When the horsea was released after getting the all clear from Nurse Joy, it warily watched as Stromm and Kezite were at Noah's side.

Interestingly, it seemed to have minor psychic abilities as it hovered in place, though it seemed far less comfortable being out of water.

Noah knew that its species could learn Agility and Rest, and those were technically Psychic-type moves, but it would never be something that could really utilize and rely on those in a pinch.

Noah's other teammates were all at his side and while they were in their balls, they were more than capable than erupting out to fight in a nanosecond. They had not been happy that a baby had tried to literally kill Noah, and were more than happy to crush it if it tried that again. Deadary in particular was excited to try to traumatize the water-type again, but Noah had nipped that grudge in the bud before it even started. Ghost-types held grudges like no other pokemon simply due to the fact that they were dead and literally thrived off the ambient emotions around them. Any strong emotions in particular stimulated them and while Deadary had long since overcame his cravings for negative emotions, his taste for them didn't go away with his self-control.

He would love Lavender Town if even half the stories about the place had a shred of truth to them.

"Hi there." Noah began, "I'm Noah, a pokemon trainer and I was hoping you would join my family. You know that I did catch you, so technically I am your trainer, but I don't want to force you into a life that you don't want. If you don't to be here, that's fine. But if you choose to join us, I will make sure you become the strongest pokemon you can be and maximize your potential. If you think I'm not able to do it, then let me know and I'll let you go."

The horsea cocked it's head as it considered his speech and narrowed his eyes at him, a challenge blazing in them.

Noah smiled, recognizing the look in his eyes from when he met most of his dragons who became his family.

"You want to see if I am worthy? If I can beat you with my team?" Noah chuckled, "Well… when you ask for a challenge like that… Let's do this."

Horsea tensed as he motioned to his Pichu and Nidoran, both of whom glared at the water-type, cheeks sparking and horn dripping poison.

"These are my newest members of my family, so they will be a good gauge of your strength, besides my oldest members are a bit much for you."

Suddenly a mass of light began to erupt from Noah's belt and his dragons all materialized and made some distance so they could prove Noah's claim. Horsea looked around nervously and realized this human wasn't some rookie and each of the dragons were his. The sheer weight of their presence as they watched on was choking, but if anything, it made Horsea feel the hunger that hadn't abated felt since he first hatched swell stronger than ever before.

A hunger for growth.

A hunger to be strong.

Noah smirked, "You want to stand with them? You have a long way to go, but I can help you scale those heights. But you don't want words to prove that, so let's fight. Stromm? You want to do this?"

Stromm chittered and darted to stand in front of Noah, ready to fight.

The horsea scoffed at the baby pokemon that Noah sent against him, was this baby all he really needed to prove his strength?

"Hey." Noah cautioned, voice calm but sharp, "Don't look down on him, you're a baby too. In fact, do you want to go to where you'll be at your best?"

Horsea's eyes narrowed and Stromm's cheeks sparked in anticipation.

In order to give Horsea the best possible chance and for Stromm to see what it was like to fight in an arena that didn't particularly favor him, the headed to one of the lakes in Cerulean. While he could use the ocean, there was a chance Horsea would just run away and leave him with an inert Ultra Ball. It wasn't like he didn't have the money to replace it — he still had his funds from his time in Umbal and from the bug catchers — but he'd rather avoid needlessly spending money. Plus this would work as a slight test run for when he would be fighting in the Water Gym of Cerulean City, if only to a limited degree.

Horsea seemed confident in his victory, but Noah knew that he would not have an easy time of it with Stromm. He was literally just about to evolve, and this push would probably be the last bit he needed to cross the threshold to his next stage. Noah wouldn't rely on mid-battle evolutions as while they were a powerful wild-card, they generally were only once-or-twice uses and wasn't something you could bust out like party-favors. Either way, Stromm had been working hard and he knew that while he wasn't the most seasoned battler or strongest electric-type around, Stromm was more than powerful enough to give as good as he got. He also needed to mention that Stromm was somewhat experienced in dealing with water-types as that was literally all he had been training against for the past two days.

As the water-type settled in the water, it gave Noah a nod and Stromm bounded forward, cheeks sparking.

Horsea immediately let out a blast of water, intent on downing Stromm immediately so he could prove too strong for Noah. One good hit would be all it took to show Noah that he was worth more than any of his 'new' pokemon.

But Noah didn't just let his pokemon take it.

"Bolt!"

After Stromm demonstrated the ability of Quick Attack to be used to outmaneuver foes and evade attacks as well, Noah had decided on using that command to indicate evading while using the speed aspect of Quick Attack to dodge. He was little more than a blur as he sped around the area, the slight glow of Quick Attack leaving shimmering trails as a indication of where he had been. Stromm may not have had this move long, but it was already paying off with how much he drilled in it, plus Stromm loved moving fast and to him this was just a way to make him better. Horsea was trying to tag him with blasts of water gun to no avail, growing increasingly more frustrated with each missed shot. He had expected an easy victory against the baby pokemon, but he hadn't expected the pichu to just up and vanish in a burst of white energy. He tried to even blast the ground with Aurora Beam to make Stromm slip, but the mouse avoided the swatches of white with leaping and using Blitz to propel him in any direction while still in the air.

One of the main pros of what made Pichu and Pikachu formidable pokemon wasn't power output — though that certainly was a way to make them stronger — but how they could out-speed their foes. Many trainers hurried down the path of evolution when it came to power as Raichu was a strong pokemon with powerful electrical capabilities and decent durability, but they often missed out on sheer speed that Pichu and Pikachu could utilize. Pikachu didn't lose any speed once it evolved, so making sure it could speed-blitz it's opponent and then evolving it was the best way to make sure once you had a fully evolved Raichu, it would be a nightmare to anything not able to keep up.

"Evade and Thundershock the water and horsea!" Noah called, "Don't lose your momentum!"

Stromm skidded to a stop — narrowly avoiding a gout of water — and fired off a discharge of electricity that hit the water-type and even arced into the lake. Horsea cried out as the super-effective move sent shocks of pain up and down its body and no matter where it tried to go the pain didn't abate. He launched himself into the air by blasting the pond with a water gun before immediately freezing the top of the water with an Aurora Beam. Landing on the ice floe it created, it flopped to face Stromm and fire another Aurora Beam at the startled mouse. Noah gave an approving nod despite the fact he was fighting the horsea, ice was not the best conductor of electricity and heavily negated the effect of the charged water.

"Clever, but it's not over yet. Intercept with Thundershock!" Noah commanded.

Stromm squeaked and launched an arc of electricity at the multicolored beam of light and collided, both attacks pushing until they detonated in a scatter of multicolored mist and flickers of dissipating electricity. Horsea seemed a bit surprised that Stromm was able to counter that attack at all given the fact that Aurora Beam was generally a stronger move, but Horsea was still thinking Stromm was a pushover who was getting lucky.

He was dead wrong.

Stromm punctuated the point by crashing into the horsea with Quick Attack, knocking it off its floe and discharging another bolt of electricity into the water before leaping off the floe and back onto solid ground. Horsea spasmed and twitched as it was once again assaulted by the electrical discharge that Stromm had fired into the lake. Horsea propelled itself with another Water Gun, only just avoiding another bolt of electricity hitting it as it pursed its mouth to alter its trajectory. Horsea then blasted the surface of the lake with Aurora Beams, making as many ice floes as possible and landed on the one beneath it, eyes narrowed at Stromm who slowed to a stop while its cheeks glowed from latent electricity it was holding onto.

As horsea reared its head back and a ball of multicolored light began to form, Noah called out, "Intercept with Thundershock!"

Stromm crouched to focus his electricity when he and horsea launched their attacks at each other, once again crashing and pushing against each other. This time, horsea seriously upped the power behind his Aurora Beam and it steadily pushed Stromm's Thundershock back towards him. Noah eyes narrowed and Stromm struggled to push more force behind his attack to keep from being overwhelmed. Noah didn't bother encouraging that, it wasn't that Stromm was weak in any way — he had trained on his capacity with Deadary as much as he could and his speed was still one of his best advantages — but as a Pichu, Stromm simply wasn't able to amass the power his later forms would be able to generate. As of now, he wasn't well suited to a battle style of pitting force against force, evasion would need to be his staple for now.

"Disengage and Bolt! Fire occasional shocks!" Noah commanded.

The two pokemon tossed attacks at each other, horsea now able to counter by raising walls of ice with a small blast of Aurora Beam or launching itself out of the way with a Water Gun while Stromm darted around on the shore to find better angles of attack and occasionally leaping across the ice floes that horsea had made earlier to goad the horsea to take a shot that Stromm could counter. Finally, the water-type overshot a water gun and Stromm blasted it off one of the ice floes into the water, and sent an arc of electricity into the area horsea had fallen into.

It was then that Stromm began to glow, and this time it wasn't just the outline of a Quick Attack, it was something more.

Noah couldn't help the massive grin as where Stromm was a Pichu, a Pikachu soon stood with latent electricity dancing across it's skin.

"Stromm? Finish it off this time."

Stromm eagerly complied.

Another trip to the Pokemon Center, and Horsea — now Rane — was ready to join.

"Gotta admit, your move spread is pretty typical, but that Aurora Beam was a pleasant surprise, you already have a good grasp on it to mitigate electricity." Noah commented, "Bubble won't be a helpful move against Brock, but Water Gun and Aurora Beam will come in handy. The biggest problem we need to work on is mobility since you need water to move fast and Brock will no doubt know that. Plus it's not like he has any pools for you to move in, the very field will be a disadvantage if you want to fight him."

Rane looked unhappy and frustrated at that, it had been taught exactly how that didn't really matter if you ran into an opponent who could practically shut down that advantage.

"Hey, no need to look like that, I already hammered out rough draft of what we can do and I think it just needed to be fine-tuned. Once we have a day of real training under our belt, we'll talk more about it them, okay?" Noah placated his newest family member.

Rane nodded.

Kezite and Stromm both waited patiently as Noah was also digging through his pack to pull out his battered and worn TM case. Now that Stromm had the tail for it, and Kezite was also quickly approaching his evolution, he was gonna double-down on training his family and he thinks that they are ready for some new moves.

"Let's get started."
