A/N: Written for this past Father's Day, because Deeks is finally a dad!
Deeks heard giggling as he walked down the short hall from the master bedroom to the kitchen Sunday morning. There'd been a lot of laughter in the last several weeks since Rosa joined the family, and it made Deeks nearly overflow with happiness. He just wondered what they were up to.
"Good morning, ladies—" he started to say as he reached the kitchen doorway and the scent of something savory wafted towards him.
"No, don't come in," Kensi told him, racing just in time to block him from entering.
"What's going on?" Deeks asked with a grin. Craning his neck, he tried to see beyond her but only caught a glimpse of Rosa by the stove before Kensi gently nudged him back.
"Ah, ah, no peeking."
"Go back to bed, Marty," Rosa called out.
"Alright, now you're just stoking my curiosity even more," Deeks said, but he didn't try to get past Kensi. "Seriously, what are you two doing in there and do I need to have the fire department on standby?"
"You're hilarious, baby, but I really need you to go away right now. We'll be done in a few minutes," Kensi informed him. She kissed softly, then gave him a light push towards the living room.
"Ok, but, next time you say I'm being weird, I'm totally mentioning this." As he turned around, Kensi didn't budge from the doorway, apparently determined to keep out of that kitchen.
Maybe Rosa had offered Kensi another cooking lesson—she was quite proficient and introduced a whole new set of dishes into their diet—and didn't want him to see the aftermath unless the results were positive.
Figuring he'd just have to wait and see, Deeks showered and flopped on the freshly made bed to watch a DIY shed tutorial. Halfway through, Kensi slipped through the door. She wore a combination of anticipation and nervousness that instantly made him suspicious.
"Oh good, you're already in bed," she said. He sat up, ruffling a hand through his hair.
"Why is that good?"
"Because it's essential for having breakfast in bed," Kensi explained just as Rosa walked in, carrying a large wooden, food laden tray. Several things clicked into place as she gave him a shy smile, laying the tray on the other side of the bed.
"Happy Father's Day."
"Oh my god, this is…" Deeks shook his head in mild disbelief at the array of foods in front of him. "You didn't have to do this."
"It was all Rosa's idea," Kensi shared. "And as usual, she did the majority of the cooking."
"I made your favorite crepes and huevos rancheros. Oh, and a vanilla latte," Rosa explained, folding her hands together. She shrugged, almost like it wasn't much. "I hope you like it."
Deeks felt his throat tighten, and an unexpected rush of tears fill his eyes. Theoretically, he'd realized it was Father's Day, but he'd long since disassociated the holiday form himself. Aside from the first few years, there's been little to celebrate about his own father, and as an adult, it seemed a far-off fantasy.
Swallowing harshly, he drew in a shaky breath, gripping the sides of the tray with equally shaky hands. He caught Rosa's eyes, unable to hide the emotion there.
"It's perfect," he whispered. "I, uh, I didn't expect anything like this. Thank you."
"In Guatemala, Father's Day is celebrated on the 17th, but I wanted to do it right for the first time here," Rosa said. She was smiling now and leaned over to hug him. Over her shoulder, he looked to Kensi who held her fingers pressed to her mouth, her own eyes shiny. She knew exactly how much this meant to him.
"I love it, Rosa. Thank you so much," he repeated, wiping at his cheeks once she'd pulled back.
"Happy first Father's Day," Kensi added, placing a small round object on the tray as she swooped in to kiss his forehead. It was a thin silver medallion on a simple chain with the words "Husband & Father" etched into the metal.
"Oh my god, you guys really are determined to have me cry." Deeks laughed shakily, reaching to kiss Kensi more firmly, pouring all his love and happiness into the gesture.
"The best first Father's Day ever," he confirmed, holding Kensi to his chest as he reached to squeeze Rosa's with his other.
A/N: This might all seem a bit fast given that Rosa's just moved in, but I feel like she'd want to celebrate Deeks in some way.
Also, in case you think it's unlikely that Deeks wouldn't realize it's Father's Day, I frequently forget about holidays that I don't tend to celebrate or having any vested interest in. Like Valentine's Day.
Hope you all enjoyed!
