I'm on a roll!

It's Raining Cauldrons! Hallelujah!
"I'm already exhausted from a full day of cleanin'. I can't believe we still gotta wash a hundred windows!" Grim belted in a raucous tone, as he flopped on sent. Haelth pats his head and laughs.
"You get used to it," She said as Scott passed her and Grim water bottles, "Mapa used to do the same thing to us." She explained. Grim groaned as he sat up and tried to open the bottle, which Haelth helped him open when he failed.
"Thanks," he said, sipping on the bottle. After a while, he wiped his muzzle with his paw, "So who is your Mapa?" He asked.
"Oh! That's my parent!" Haelth answered.
"But why don't ya call them da or ma like normal kids?" He asked.
"Because Mapa is nonbinary," Haelth answered him, "So they don't fit a dad or mom role. So I called them Mapa instead." She explained.
Grim tilted his head and hummed, "That makes sense." He said. Melody, Oliver, and Susie brought in the food and Grim gladly dug in. Haelth took one of the tacos and bit into it. Scott looks around and turns to Melody.
"Did you see Ace?" He asked.
Melody shook her head, "No." She narrows her eyes, "But he better show up."
Grim licked his paws, "You're tellin' me!"
Scott glared at them, "Don't start another fight, you idiots!
Melody rolled her eyes, "Fine." Scott narrowed his eyes at her and went back to eating. When Scott is listening to what Oliver and Susie have to say, Melody leans back and mouths the words to Grim that they are still going to beat up Ace if he is late. Grim nodded along. They finish their food and wait for Ace to come.
For a while now.
Waiting.
Waiting.
Waiting.
"... And now he's super late!" Grim exclaimed and jumped on the table, "I bet he up and bailed on us!"
Oliver frowned, "Sure, seems like it." He bites his thumb thinking what to do. Haelth slams her hands on the table.
"Let's go find him and give him a piece of our minds." She shouted and Grim nodded in agreement.
Scott frowns, "Remember, we already got in trouble once because of this guy." He pointed out, "He's not worth it."
Melody smirked, "So we should just let him off the hook even though Crowley said we need to wash all the windows," Scott looked over at her, "If we let him off the hook and Crowley finds out then we get in trouble." She pointed out, "So we do need his help." She smirked. Scott opened his mouth to argue but closed it, knowing she was right.
"Ok but we do this smartly," He said. Grim jumped down from his seat and ran to the door.
"Ain't no way am I doin' his punishment for him! C'mon, minions, I don't care if we gotta drag him kickin' and screamin', he's washin' those windows!" He ran out the door and the group followed.
The group finds themselves in hallways full of beautiful paintings on the wall. Grim and the others ask around for Ace but many of the students either dismiss them because they don't want to get involved or don't know.
"Hey! Ace! Get over here! Try to hide from me, will ya!" Grim shouted down the hallway as run down it on four legs. The group ran with him with Haelth in the lead.
"Grim!" Oliver called out to him as he was lagging, "If you announce that you are coming then there is no way Ace is just going to sit still! He'll run!" He reminds him.
Grim spot, "Good point." He thought it over, "How can we find him?" He wonders out loud as the group gathers around him.
"Maybe we can ask for someone," Susie suggests.
"Who? No one has seen him. Besides, there's no one here." Melody pointed out.
"Oh, I wouldn't say that, I'm here." An orotund voice said to them. Everyone stops and looks around. There is nothing here besides the painting on the walls.
"Who's there?" Susie asked, her darting all over the place. Was there another ghost?
"Over here!" The group turns and sees a painting. Just a normal-wait Susie looks closely. Is…is the painting's mouth moving?
"Bwaaah! That painting just talked!" Grim yelped in surprise.
The painting raises an eyebrow at them, "Yes, and...? Is a talking painting such an oddity at this school?" They asked them.
Scott shrugged, "Well to be fair this kind of stuff isn't common where we're from." He explained to them.
The painting waved him off, "Oh it's fine! You're not the first students to be shocked seeing painting talk. I'm not the only one, the lady in the portrait on that wall talks too. As does the gentleman in the portrait on this one." The group turns and sees the paintings that they were talking about waving at them.
Huh, neat.
"Now, you seem to be searching for someone." They said and Grim focused all his attention on the painting.
"We're lookin' for this guy called Ace. He's got messy hair and a heart drawn on his face." Grim asked the painting. The painting puts a finger in their chin in thought and snaps their fingers.
"Ah, I know the one. A new student, I believe? Today was his first day at school. I think he went back to his dorm a while ago." They explain. Grim smiles and rubs his paws together.
"Myaaah! So it's true! He's tryin' to ditch us! Do you know which way he went?" Grim asked them.
The painting points to the left hallway, "The door to the dorms is in the eastern building."
Grim grinned, "Let's go get them minions!" He rushes down the hallway.
"Wait up!" Susie said, following him with the rest of the group in tow.
The room they were in was special and was surprisingly bare. The smooth marble floor was green and blue, archways were decorated above the mirrors with each of the house's names and symbols in front. Heartslabyul, Savanaclaw, Octavinelle, Scarabia, Pomefiore, Ignihyde, and Diasomnia on golden plates, with candles as decoration lighting up with green flames.
There were a couple of students talking among themselves but Oliver heard a familiar voice talking.
"Yeah right, like I'm gonna was a hundred windows. I'm just gonna go back and-" Grim rushes forward to Ace who was talking to another but Oliver grabs him.
"Wait," He hissed but Oliver covered his mouth. The monster cat was about to give them away. Grim saw Haelth sneaking up on Ace who was talking to another student, and Grim smirked. Once she was close she tipped his shoulder.
"Mhm? What is it-" As Ace turns around Haelth punches him. Ace groaned as he fell and the student he was talking to backed off.
"That's for ditching us." She stomped toward him and lifted her leg over between his legs, "And this is for everything else." Ace's eyes widen and before Haelth can bring down her leg Scott pulls her back.
"Hey!" She shouted and tried to wiggle out his gasp.
"You idiot! You want us all to get into trouble again?" He hissed.
Ace wisely took this moment to run.
"Hey!" Grim growled and chased after him. Haelth bites Scott's hand who yelps, letting her go and Haelth follows Grim along.
"Stop right there, pal! No fair gettin' a head start! Wait!" The rest of the group chases after him. Through the hallways, outside, and courtyard.
"Who in their right mind would ever wait?! Seeya!" Ace shouted behind him.
"He's getting away!" Melody shouted.
Oliver looked around them and saw a blue-haired student with a black marking shaped like a spade symbol on his face. Ace quickly pushes him away, the student's eyes widen but stops himself from falling.
"Outta my way!" Ace shouted, "That kid is crazy!"
"Hey-" The student was about to shout but cut off as Haelth rushed past him.
"Get back here you rat!" She shouted
The student blinked in surprise and Oliver ran up to him.
"Yes! Hello, can you please stop that student over there?" He pointed at Ace, "He's running away from his responsibilities and my friend is going to kill him if he doesn't stop. So please stop that student."
The student's eyes widen, "That's not good! But how to stop them?" He watches the chase scene in front of him, "Like, freeze his legs? Or bind them with a rope? Or maybe I could... Hmm... No…" The student mumbled.
Oliver's eyes dart to Ace as he gets away from Haelth. Haelth growled and pushed herself harder to catch the taller teen. One way or another this was going to end badly for them if this kid couldn't do anything!
"Just think of something heavy!" He blunts out.
The student blinked, "Heavy?"
"Heavy!"
"Anything?! Anything, huh…" Student reaches into his pocket chest and pulls out a pen, "All right! Here goes anything! I summon thee... something heavy!" With a wave of his pen, a cauldron came from out of nowhere and crashed into where Ace and Haelth were, kicking up dust so that the group couldn't see them. Everyone was too stunned to talk.
"Did you just kill them?" Scott shouted at the student.
"W-well I umm…" The student stuttered, "I hope not." The group looked at him in disbelief that he said that.
"Bwaaah?! What?! A pot?!" They all turn to see Ace buried under the cauldron, while Haelth was a few feet behind, stunned and fallen on her butt but otherwise all right. She got up and walked to Ace's pinned form, but before she could beat him up Susie stopped her.
"Look we caught him. Everything is alright." She said as she held Haelth. The rest of the group caught up to them.
"Ah ha ha ha ha! That Ace guy got crushed beneath a giant cauldron! It squashed him flat! Aha ha ha!" Grim held his stomach and laughed, "That's what you get!"
Melody smirked, "Maybe you're learning your lesson."
"A cauldron?! I wasn't expecting that. I may have overdone it this time…" The student said as he walked up.
"Owwww!" Ace groans under the cauldron, "What are you bothering me for? You guys coulda just banged out the work yourself!" He glared at Melody and their group.
"Because you idiot, if we don't clean those windows then we all get into trouble!" Scott told him.
Ace gives him an unimpressed look, "And what you can't lie?" He replied dismissed.
"Hell no!" Haelth replied.
"You have to wash a hundred windows as punishment?" The other student turn to them with a of bewilderment, "What the heck did you do?!" He asked them.
"W-well…um," Susie tried to find the right answer but Ace answered him.
"I was just screwing with that furball a little…" Ace answered. The group gave an annoyed look while the student looked at him like he didn't believe.
"Come on Ace don't lie." Oliver said before grinning, "Or I let Haelth loose."
Haelth growled and beans of sweat dripped down at Ace's face.
"Okay, and the statue of the Queen of Hearts got a teeny bit charred. Sue me." Ace admits.
The student's eyes widen, "You damaged a statue of the Great Seven?! No wonder he flew off the handle at you!" Oliver wonders who the student referring to, "After you managed to get into THIS school, how could you get in trouble on the very first day?!"
Ace waved his hand and dismissed the other student, "Oh, shut up. Who are you, anyway?"
"My name is Deuce. Deuce Spade. Don't you remember your classmate? Ummm…" Deuce's eyebrow furrowed in confusion.
"You don't remember my name either, do you?" Ace pointed out as he crawled out of the cauldron. He dusted off his clothes as he was free.
"That's not the point! You shouldn't try to shirk an order from the headmage!" Deuce argued.
"Yeah, yeah, message received... Fine, let's bang out the windows already." He turned to the group and noticed one was missing, "...where is the cat?" The five turn and notice that Grim is missing.
"Oh, he's right there." Haelth pointed down the street.
"Ah ha ha ha! I'll let you two handle the rest! See ya, suckers!" Grim laughed as run down the street.
"HUH?!" Everyone chases after Grim.
"Why didn't you tell us he was leaving?!" Melody asked as she turned to Haelth.
Haelth flitch, "Sorry I was distracted." She said. In her defense it was funny watching Ace and Deuce argue back and forth in front of her.
"...Are they yaoi?" Oliver asked as he ran along with the group.
"...Oliver shut up," Scott replied as he shook his head.
They chase Grim down the courtyard to the hallway. They passed by other students to get the monster cat but he was too fast. Ace and Deuce aren't much help as they get in each other's way a lot. It took Scott hitting them on top of their heads to get them on track. They chase Grim into the cafeteria, where the monster cat climbs up a chandelier.
"Grim get back down!" Melody shouted.
Grim laughed, "Heh heh heh! Catch me if you can!"
Scott looked around for something to get him down but found nothing.
"Ahhh! How are we going to get him down?" He asked the group.
Susie thinks of something, "Let me talk to him."
Ace looked at her in disbelief, "You think just talking to him will get him down?" He said pointing at Grim, who pulled down his lower eyelid and stuck out his tongue at them, "He's menace!"
Susie shook her head, "Said the guy that started up a fight with him." She scolds Ace, who huffs, "If you hadn't teased him or Haelth, we wouldn't be in this mess." Ace looked away, pouting a bit. Knowing she got him.
"Just let me handle it," Susie said as walk up and talked to Grim.
"Ok, Grim," Grim looks down at Susie who has her hand behind her back "What will it take to get you down?"
"Hmmm," Grim put a paw under his chin, "Give me 200 tuna cans and Haelth to punch Ace again." He laughed.
Ace glared at the monster cat, "How about I come up there and kick you-" Scott covered his mouth.
"Well Haelth already beat him up and I can give 50 cans" Susie tried to reason with him.
"100."
"75."
They went back and forth while the rest of the group was watching. Oliver and Melody watch the exchange calmly while Scott's and Haelth's eyes go back and forth.
"This is taking forever!" Ace exclaimed.
Deuce looks at Grim, "I haven't learned flight magic yet...What could I summon to hold onto him...? Hmmm…" Deuce thought for a moment before a lightbulb went off in his head, "Oh! That's it!"
Ace turned to him, "Did you come up with somethi-" He cut off as Deuce pointed his pen at him, "Oh, hey! Stop! What are you doing?!" Ace took a couple of steps back but Deuce followed his movement and Ace started to float up, "Why are you pointing your pen at me?!"
"Because I'm going to launch you." Deuce simply answered. Everyone was on edge as he said that. All but Haelth who's eyes brighten.
"Um… Deuce I don't think that's a good idea," Oliver said.
Melody frowned, "You can seriously hurt someone, and besides," She looked at Ace, "I saw you and him chase Grim and you guys aren't quick enough to catch him."
Ace glared at her, "Hey!"
"This is true," Deuce said and thought about it for a moment before pointing his pen at Haelth, "Wow you're light!" He exclaimed.
"What are you doing?!" Scott looks at him in disbelief.
"Throwing him," Deuce said, and everyone who was Haelth's friend blinked in surprise. Did he think that Haelth was…
Haelth giggled, "Throw me!"
"Just make sure to grab Grim. I've got him in my sights, and…" Deuce said closing one eye to aim at Grim and lift Haelth with his magic. Scott moves to stop him.
"No! Wait you ido-"
But it was too late.
"Go!" Deuce throw Haelth.
"YEEEAH!" Haelth laughed as she sail in the air. She grabbed Grim who was still talking with Susie.
"MYAAAAAAAAH?!" Grim let a startled yelp as Haelth rolled in the air, keeping Grim close to her chest as done so. But as she did that, her foot hit the chain of the chandelier. There was a groan from the chandelier before much to the gang's horror a screw came loose and it was starting to fall.
"LOOK OUT!" Ace and Scott immediately grab Susie who was too stunned to move away from the falling chandelier.
Crash!
Everyone covers their eyes as a cloud of dust picks from the impact of the chandelier. When it cleared up the chandelier was destroyed.
"I cannot believe you just did that!" Ace looks at Deuce in shock.
Deuce looks sheepishly, "Oh, right! I probably should have come up with a way to soften his landing after Haelth caught him…"
Scott's jaw hangs loose in shock, "Are you serious? The landing part is what you think you mess up on?" He pointed at the wreaked chandelier, "You BROKE the chandelier! That stuff cost a lot of money!"
Deuce gulped and took a step back.
"W-well… um trying too-" He tried to devise an excuse but Ace cut him off.
"You complete and total moron! We got Grim, but we broke the chandelier! If the headmage finds out about this-"
"If I find out about... what, dear Ace?" Everyone is frozen when Crowley appears behind them. Everyone jumped and gulped at the sight of the Headmage, who looked around confused, then he saw the destroyed chandelier, gasped in shock, and gripped his cane so hard he shook.
"Ah! Headmage Crowley...!" Ace gulped.
"What have you done this time?!" Crowley glared at them. The teenagers all flitch and look down. He was even more mad than he was at the statue they burned.
"Myaaah... Everything's spinning…" Grim grunted as he led into Haelth's chest.
"Turning a statue to charcoal wasn't enough for you? Now you've destroyed a chandelier?!" Crowley looks at each one of the teens, who all refuse to meet his heated glare and try to make excuses. Crowlet slams the bottom of his cane to silence them, "Enough. All of you are expelled." That shook everyone in the group.
"B-but what about sending us home?!" Susie asked, "You promised!" She pointed out.
Crowley turns to her, "I can't have people breaking school property, regardless if they are students or staff. You only have yourself to blame for your foolish behavior." Susie flinched at that and his expression softened a bit, "I know some good friends that you can stay with until I can find you a way home. But you and your friends can't stay here." He told her. Susie flinched as, while nice, she didn't know who or where Crowlwy's friends were. Plus this world is still so new to them.
"Headmage, please! Give me a second chance! I can't get expelled from this school! I need to be here! I'll pay for the damages! However much it costs!" Deuce begged the Headmage.
Crowley scoffed, "That chandelier is no mere light fixture. It is a magical chandelier. Its candles are powered by a magical energy source, enchanted so that they will burn for eternity. It was created for us by a legendary artificer. Possibly their finest creation. It has been here since the school was established, and I imagined it would be here forevermore. Considering its historical value, I would estimate its worth to be no less than a billion thaumarks. And you intend to repay that sum?" He questioned them.
"A... A billion marks?!" Deuce coughed.
"Wait can't you just magic your way to fixing it?" Health asked him, raising an eyebrow.
Crowley shook his head, "Even magic has its limits." He kneels and picks up a stone from the broken chandelier that is also broken, "Furthermore, its magestone - the figurative heart of any magical artifact - is cracked. A magestone cannot easily be replaced. I fear the candles of this majestic chandelier will never burn again." He told them.
"This is bad…" Ace mumbled under his breath, sweating a bit.
"What am I going to do?! How am I going to tell my mother...?" Deuce looking down.
"Where can we go?" Melody asked looking worried at their group of friends. They all look down.
"Ah...! But there may be one way." Everyone's ears perk up as Crowley said, "One tiny sliver of a chance to repair this chandelier."
"What is it?" Scott asked him.
"The magestone that powered this chandelier was mined from the Dwarfs' Mine. If you can acquire a magestone with the same properties, it may be possible to repair it." He told them.
Deuce was the first one up, "Then I'll go find a magestone! With your permission, sir!"
"I should caution you that I cannot promise there yet remain magestones to find. The mines were closed quite some time ago. It is quite likely that all of the magestones have already been mined." Crowley warned him.
"We go regardless." Scott said stepping forward so he is side by side with Deuce, "We have no choice."
Crowley sighed, "Hmmm... Very well, then. I will suspend your expulsion for a single night. But if you fail to return with a magestone by morning, then all of you are expelled." He told and he walked away. Leaving the teens alone with each other.
"This is all your fault! You just had to skip window cleaning duty!" Melody hissed at Ace.
"What, you guys can't do it yourself!? There is more in your little group that you could do the job yourself! Besides you're the ones that let Grim loose." Ace glared right back at her.
"Yeah because you ran like a wimp!"
"Excuse me!"
"Enough!" Susie shouted and the two froze as she raised her voice, "We not going to solve anything! Let's just get the map of the place and get this over with." She yelled, her lips tightened.
"I agree," Oliver said, stepping forward, "What is done is done. Now let's fix up this mess."
Melody and Ace glare at each other before looking away.
"Fine."
The group went to the library to find a map of the Dwarfs' Mine. Susie turned to the group as they walked in the door and told them.
"We need to-"
"Shhh!" Susie blinked in surprise and turned to the librarian at the checkout desk shooting her an annoyed glare before going back to work.
Susie whispered to them, "We need to find a map and then get to the mine. So we split up and come back here."
"How would-"
"Shh!"
Ace shot the librarian an annoyed glare.
"How would we know if one of us found it?" He asked her.
Susie held up her magicam, "What's your number?" She asked them. Ace and Deuce pull out their phones and give her their number. And the rest of the five give the duo their number as well.
"Ok, who's going with who?" Deuce asked.
Ace glared at Haelth and Grim, "I'm not going anywhere those two are going." He said pointedly.
Grim hissed, his tail lashes out, "The feelin' is mutual." Haelth flips him off.
"Shh!"
Everyone flinches as the librarian glares them again.
"OK, OK. Haelth, Grim you're with Scott and Melody," Scott and Melody sigh so Susie leans in and whispers to them, "Just do this for me."
Scott rolled his eyes, "Fine." Susie smiles and he smiles too.
"Ace and Deuce are with me and Oliver," Susie told them. Deuce's eyes widened while Ace nodded.
Ace nodded, "Sound good enough for me."
"REAL-"
"SHHH!"
Deuce flinched as the librarian shushed him and glared, "There is no loud talking in liberty."
"Sorry," Deuce bowed and the librarian rolled her eyes before going back to her work.
"What's wrong with Susie?" Melody asked him, "She's like, the least threatening out of all of us."
"W-well she not! I j-just-what I mean to say is. Ummm…" Deuce is tripping over his words. Scott's eye twitched, Haelth huffed, and Melody's frown. Which didn't help with Deuce's nerves.
"Oh, I get it!" Oliver whispers and everyone turns to him, "You can't talk to a girl!"
Deuce blushed, "W-well ummm…" He took in a deep breath and nodded.
Ace grinned, "Really you?" He giggled and Deuce blushed furiously. Before he could yell Oliver covered their mouths.
"Before you start a lover's spat," The two boys glared and mumbled, "We already are in trouble and I don't want to get in trouble with the librarian." As if on cue the librarian glared at them. Deuce and Ace gulp.
"Good point," With that they all went they went their separate ways.
Melody, Scott, Haelth, and Grim check out the map selection. Scott looks for a map of the Isle and Melody is beside him on the bookshelf. Haelth and Grim went farther ahead.
"Guess who miscalculated one number and has to redo this whole problem again?" Someone said in a monotonous tone, behind the bookshelf, "Can I get RIP in chat?" The voice joked.
Without thinking Melody and Scott replied.
"RIP."
Just as they heard the voice let out a surprised yelp and the sound of books and tablets falling. The duo blink in surprise.
"Don't scare me like that!"
Haelth and Grim meanwhile were farther ahead. Haelth spotted a book on a high shelf. She narrowed her eyes and caught the title, 'History of the Isle of Sages', "I think I found it!" She walked up to it and reached up to get it. When she got to her tiptoes and her hand still couldn't reach it, she frowned.
"Dammit, it's too high for me to reach." Grim looked at how high the book was.
"I got an idea," Grim said then climbed on top of her head.
"Hey!"
"You get up as close as you can. And then I jump and get the book," Grim grinned down at her, "it's a good plan!"
Haelth thought of it for a moment, "This sounds like a great idea! Let's do this!" She got up close to the shelf and reached up as high as she could.
"I got this" Grin jumps up and clings to the shelf.
"Did you get it?" Haelth asked.
"Of course!" Grim puffs out his chest as he pulls out the book, "I, the great Grim can-Woah!" Grim lost his footing and fell.
"Sh-I got you, Grim!" Haelth moved back to catch him, but lost her balance and almost tripped. Then someone caught her and a gloved hand grabbed Grim before he hit the ground.
"You ok?" Haelth looks up to see a pair of slit green eyes looking down at her.
"Yep!" She got up on her feet, "Thank you um..?" She looked at him confused. To be fair not every day do you meet a tall, dark-haired stranger with horns on top of his head.
"So you two don't know my name?" He seems surprised at this.
"I and my friends just got here, so we are not from around here," Haelth explained to him.
The man farrowed his eyebrow in thought, "I see. By chance, are you a part of the group that caused a scene in the entrance ceremony?"
"You're not a cop right?" Haelth said cheekily.
The man's lips twitch upwards, "What are you doing here?" He asks her.
"Oh…well," Haelth looked at Grim who quickly bluntly replied.
"We need to get this magic stone because some idiot," Grim gave a pointed look in the direction where Ace was, "broke it. Now we all need to get it or face expulsion. So we are going to Dwarfs' Mine." Haelth could hear a sneeze going on in the background.
"Well if you want to go there. I suggest bringing some medicine, a flashlight, and a weapon." He suggested. That set off Haelth's alarm bells in her head.
"Is there any danger there?" She asks him.
"I heard there was a monster there but no one to confirm if that was true or not." He tells her. She tried to read the emotions on his face but she really couldn't make out what he was thinking. But the tone of his voice was a concerned one…
"Ok, I will! Than-"
"Haelth who are you talking to?" Scott appears in the doorway.
"Oh, som-" Haelth and Grim turned but the man was gone.
"Where did he go?" Grim's eyes dart around to find the horn man.
"Who?" Scott appears around the corner confused. Haelth ran toward him pointing at where the guy was last seen.
"There was this guy! He had horns on his head! He was tall, taller than even Melody!" Haelth explains. Grim leaned over her shoulder.
"Yeah, I saw him too!" He chimes in.
Scott looks between the both of them, "Yeah," He looked away, "Right. Anyhow, we got the map and we were about to head out. So you guys coming or going?" Haelth peeks up.
"Oh um…can we get some stuff?" Haelth asked.
Scott looks at her in confusion. "Why?"
"Because I heard that place is dangerous and we should be prepared." She pointed out.
Scott sighs. "Fine, fine. We'll stop at the shop."
