Is The Dark All Dark?
Chapter 5
Draco was silent as he sat at the Slytherin table watching the Goblet of Fire spit out the three champions names. Personally, he felt like anyone would have been better than the Hufflepuff that had been chosen to represent Hogwarts. He leaned his head against the palm of his hand, listening to Blaide and Theo debate on which school would win the tournament. He jerked his head up when the fire flared up again, blowing a fourth piece of parchment from the Goblet. Dumbledore stepped forward, catching the singed paper.
"Harry Potter." He announced, searching the Great Hall for any signs of the missing Boy Who Lived. Draco didn't fail to notice the furious looks on both of the visiting headmasters' faces, neither seeming happy about the announcement of another champion for Hogwarts. When missing Gryffindor didn't step forward Dumbledore turned and walked out of the Great Hall, pacing across room the other three champions were located in. Cedric watched his headmaster, confusion evident on his face as the older wizard muttered to
"Headmaster, sir, is everything alright?" the young Hufflepuff questioned, stepping forward.
"How did this happen? Why did the Goblet spit out another name? There are only supposed to be three champions, not four!" The headmaster of Durmstrang snapped, placing his hand on Viktor Krum's shoulder.
"I do not know Igor. I shouldn't have been possible unless someone charmed the Goblet to make it think there were four schools competing instead of three. But it is beside the point that Harry Potter has not returned to Hogwarts this year and it is still unknown where the boy currently is." Dumbledore attempted to explain, ignoring the furious looks he was receiving.
"Ze tournament cannot start without ze boy. Ze Goblet is an ancient artifact that binds anyone who is drawn." Headmistress Maxime stated, her tall stature causing her to tower over the other occupants in the room. Mister Crouch looked between the three Headmasters, clearly attempting to think of a way to start the tournament without needing to delay anything.
"Perhaps the Ministry could send Mr. Potter a letter if the ones from the Headmaster are not getting through? Most wards allow certain letters through." Percy Weasley stated from where he was standing at the back of the room. The four adults glanced at the recent Hogwarts graduate for a brief moment before returning to talk amongst themselves, clearly each figuring that would be the best course of action.
"Minister Fudge can personally send the boy a letter and if he doesn't attend the wand ceremony than it can be counted as a forfeit." Barty Crouch Sr. stated, nodding his head at his own statement. The three champions each shared a look, unsettled by the lack of care any of their teachers seemed to have at the thought of a child losing his magic.

Harry was silent as he sat at the table, enjoying his breakfast with a grin on his face as he watched Tonks shift her features around, clearly attempting to gain Remus' attention. Sirius couldn't help but roll his eyes at his little cousin's antics, a grin on his own face.
"Tonks, maybe you could start working with me on more defense training if you're not going to eat your breakfast?" Harry questioned, laughing when she released a startled squawk, nearly tumbling backwards out of her chair. Remus jerked his head up at the sudden noise, closing the book he had been so engrossed in to look at the pink haired woman.
"That would be an excellent idea Nymphadora. You can work with him on the physical defense for an hour or two than I can begin working with him on more advanced spell work." He stated, ignoring the way her hair flashed red at the use of her first name. Sirius and Harry both shared a laugh at the look on her face.
"Don't call me Nymphadora!" she growled, glaring at the werewolf for a moment before she stood up, stalking out of the room with a humph. Harry laughed, shaking his head for a moment before he got up from his chair, quickly chasing after her. He knew Remus honestly didn't see the problem with her name, having read many history books and such. He reached up to push the blonde hair out of his face once they'd reached the garden area that had been transfigured into an area suitable for sparring matches and practice duels.
Sirius leaned back against the wall, watching the two trade both spells and punches, figuring Harry needed training in defense in both muggle and magical. One never knew just what kind of tricks Albus was going to pull out of his hat for the 'sake of the greater good' meaning Harry always had to be prepared for anything. In the few short months since Harry had decided against returning to Hogwarts he'd seen a change in his godson, noticing how he was gaining some confidence and he smiled more. He seemed more sure of himself than he had been he'd met him at the end of last school year.
"He's coming a long way in just a few months." Sirius commented out loud, feeling his best friend's magical signature appear to his right.
"Yes but he's still got a long way to go. But he's a strong kid, Dumbledore and those muggles didn't manage to take that fiery spirit away from him." Remus stated, stopping to stand next to the Grimm animagus. They stood in silence, watching Harry and Tonks trade spells, neither willing to admit defeat. Each time one of them went down they hopped right back up, another attack already leaving their wands.
"Mister Siri sir." Izzy stated, popping into view beside the two older wizards, holding a letter in her hand. Sirius frowned, pushing off the wall when he recognized the seal on the front.
"Why is the Ministry of Magic writing Harry?" he muttered, taking the envelope from the kind house elf. Remus peered over his friend's shoulder as he read the parchment, a frown appearing on his face the further down he read.
"How is this possible? It clearly states that only a legal adult can enter the tournament. How did the Goblet even recognize Harry as a participant?" Remus questioned; annoyance clear in his tone.
"Because Harry and I went to the goblins a few weeks ago to have them file the paperwork needed to classify Harry as an adult. He freaked out when he saw Arthur and Molly in Diagon Alley a couple weeks ago and I wanted to give him that reassurance that they couldn't force him to go back to the Dursleys." Sirius groaned, leaning his head back with his eyes closed. He'd known it had been a rash decision, but he'd wanted to give Harry some for of reassurance that he couldn't be forced back.
"Putting that aside for later, Harry shouldn't have to participate. It can't be his magic that will be bound by the magical oath right? He didn't enter his name into that Goblet if he hasn't even been near Hogwarts." Remus objected. Tonks and Harry had already noticed their heated debate, making their way over.
"Who shouldn't have to participate in what?" Tonks questioned, wrapped the damp cloth around her neck as she stopped in front of them.
"Harry's been entered into the Triwizard tournament." Sirius stated, not failing to miss the panicked look on his godson's face. Remus quickly jerked forward, grabbing Harry's shoulders in an attempt to keep him from running. His green/silver eyes were clouded with anger and fear, thinking about how he just couldn't seem to get away from danger when it came to Hogwarts.
"But I never entered. I haven't left the grounds in months without at least one of you with me. I haven't set foot on Hogwarts grounds since the end of last year." Harry objected, frantically looking between the three of them. Tonks had an angered look on her own face, having grown protective of her little cousin in the span of the few months she'd known him. She'd stumbled upon them when she'd been making her rounds around Diagon Alley, having been drawn to the familiar magic that she later learned from her mother was family magic, magic that they both shared because of their blood. She carefully touched Remus' hand, hoping he would let Harry seek solitude inside the manor instead of nearly panicking standing with them. Once the teenager had disappeared inside with Izzy she turned her attention to them, a look of determination appearing on her face.
"What can I do to help?" she questioned.
Harry sat in the library; his knees drawn close to his chest as he stared at the fire. He knew Izzy was somewhere in the vast room, but she'd kept her distance to allow him to attempt to work out just what was going on. It felt like every year it was one thing after another, never having a moment of peace during his school years when all he wanted was to be a normal kid. Even when he wasn't attending Hogwarts somehow he'd been thrown straight into the middle of it all.
:3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3 :3
"Izzy...what am I going to do?" he questioned out loud, resting his head against his knees. Izzy popped into view in front of him, holding a mug of hot chocolate out to her young ward.
"You let Mister Siri and Mister Lupin worry. They figure out." She stated firmly, placing her hands on her hips as she watched him. Harry managed a small smile before he relaxed some, holding the hot drink between his hands in attempt to comfort. He knew that he shouldn't doubt Remus, Sirius, or Tonks since they had proven multiple times that they just wanted what was the best for him, none of them having cared much about whether he was the son of Lily and James Potter or Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. They cared that he was Harry, just Harry.
"Alright, so we have a plan. Tonks is going to sneak into the castle using the map to get to the room where they're holding the Goblet and hopefully have the names that had been drawn. She's going to test to see if it's your magicial signature. If it's not than problem solved, you won't compete. On the off chance it is than you have to compete, cause we're not betting your magic on if the oath took to you or not. But just know you will have all three of us right by your side the entire time." Sirius explained as he stepped into the room, followed by Remus.
"And if you have to compete you walk into that school with the confidence of the pureblooded wizard you are. Don't give any of them a reason to doubt what you're capable of doing." Remus added, offering a supportive smile.

Lucius was silent as he sat in the sitting room, currently sitting in his chair close to the fire reading over one of the recent reports of Malfoy Investments. He briefly glanced at his wife across the room, watching as she turned the page of whatever book had managed to grab her attention. Since they'd gotten the letter from Draco at the beginning of the recent school year they had both worried about the whereabouts of their youngest son, scared that they had once again lost him, but this time for good.
"Mother! Father! Are you here?" Draco's voice suddenly echoed through the room, causing them both to look up in confusion.
"Draco darling what are you doing here? Does Severus know you're hear?" Narcissa questioned when their eldest stepped into the room. She could seen the panicked look on his face, already dreading whatever it was he needed to tell them.
"Harry's name was entered into the Goblet of Fire, and he was chosen as one of the champions." Draco explained, clearly attempting to keep himself from rambling. Narcissa and Lucius shared shocked expressions, neither wanting to believe that one of their children had been entered into such a dangerous competition. Lucius had personally been against it when Fudge and Dumbledore had suggested brining to tournament back, stating they wanted to help build school relations. He'd feared something happening to one of the younger students even if Dumbledore said only of age students could enter.
"Lucius isn't there something we can do to stop this? Harry is still just a child. You're his father, his head of house. Can't you object to him competing?" Narcissa questioned, her pureblood mask falling at the worry she felt. She hadn't even gotten her child back and already she ran the risk of losing him for good.
"The goblet is a very strong magical artifact. There isn't anything I can do to stop it." Lucius stated, looking between his wife and son for a brief moment before turning his attention to the fireplace. Even if he couldn't stop it he'd be damned if he wasn't going to do everything in his power to help his son. Perhaps he'd even manage to convince him to return to Malfoy Manor once the tournament was over instead of wherever he was currently hiding. Draco looked between his parents, silently biting the inside of his lip at the thought of Harry either having to compete or risk losing his magic.
"Draco Malfoy. You can't just use my floo without at least telling me where you're going." Severus snapped, stepping into the room. He glanced at his best friend for a moment before turning his attention back to his godson. He'd seen the panicked expression that had briefly flashed across the young Slytherin's face for a moment when Harry's name had came out of the Goblet before he'd managed to school his expression. While he'd expected the boy to let his parents know he hadn't expected him to barge into his personal quarters and use his floo without asking. If Dumbledore found out than they were both going to be in a lot of trouble.
"Sorry Uncle Severus. I needed to let them know as soon as possible. I overheard a couple of the older students talking about the headmasters saying they were just going to attempt to send Harry a letter and if he didn't show up to the wand ceremony he would be disqualified. I didn't know what else to do. What if Harry loses his magic because the letter doesn't get to him?" Draco rambled, clearly falling deeper into a panic. Even though he was still against Harry being his twin, he didn't want to run the risk of him losing his magic because someone else entered him into the tournament.
"Draco we will handle this. Go ahead and return to Hogwarts while I have a quick talk with Severus." Lucius stated, banishing the paperwork to his office with a quick wave of his wand. Once his heir had stepped back through the floo he turned his attention to the potion master.
"Have you had a moment to speak with Marvolo? If it's his inside man that entered Harry into this godforsaken tournament, godfather, dark lord or not he will feel the fury of an angered father." Lucius stated.
"I don't know who the inside man is Lucius. Normally it would be easy for me to guess who it is but with so many visitors this year I don't have a clue where to even begin looking. You and I both know it was probably his insider that entered Harry. Dumbledore looked too panicked to have done it. He isn't that good of an actor when it comes to his golden boy." Severus sneered, ignoring the furious look on his friend's face. The potion master crossed his arms as he glanced between the two Malfoys, knowing they had hoped he would be able to get the message about Harry's true heritage before the Dark Lord enacted his plan to return and continue his plans.
"I need to get back to Hogwarts before Dumbledore realizes that Draco left the grounds or that I left. I've got enough on my plate dealing with all the idiotic children in my classes that can't seem to get a potion right to save their lives, I don't need the headmaster breathing down my neck anymore than he already is." Severus stated, turning away.

Draco couldn't help pacing across the Slytherin common room, his mind wandering to whether or not Harry would make an appearance before the wand ceremony. He already figured from Dumbledore's reaction that they wouldn't delay the tournament if Harry didn't show up. He couldn't help thinking that if the whole mess with the tournament had happened before finding out that Potter was his younger twin brother he wouldn't have cared what the reckless Gryffindor did. However, now he couldn't help worrying about him.
"Draco you have to calm down. You are starting to freak Crabbe and Goyle out. They think that something is bothering you and are worried you're going to start throwing hexes at them if they so much as say anything." Daphne stated, the blonde witch walking over to him. He couldn't help but glare at her for a brief moment before moving to sit on the couch that he had claimed. None of the other Slytherins had dared to interrupt his temper, even the older students fearing his father's wrath. The girl sat down next to him, staying silent as she waited for him to say whatever was bothering him. He didn't fail to miss the feeling of her magic weaving around them as she silently cast a privacy charm around them.
"I told you, Blaise, and Theo what my family discovered over the summer...about Potter. Well now even though I still hate him I can't help but worry about what could happen if he actually shows up and enters this blasted tournament. I heard mother and father talking about the last tournament the week before I got my Hogwarts letter. Father said one of the champions died." Draco ranted, throwing himself back on the couch.
"You have to have a little faith in Potter. You have heard the stories over the last three years. Maybe there is some truth to them in which case I'm sure he can take care of himself." Daphne stated, her blue gaze steady as she watched him.
"And of course you hate him. Potter has been your rival since we started school. But that doesn't mean you can't care about him as a brother too. Look and me and Astoria. She's my little sister but there are times she makes me so angry I want to hex her. It's part of having a sibling." She continued, standing up. Draco watched her step out of the common room before he released a groan.
At breakfast, the blonde haired Slytherin barely listened to the conversations going on around him, glancing around the Great Hall for any signs of Harry or the other champions. He spotted Cedric sitting among the Hufflepuffs having a conversation with one of the other seventh years. The Beauxbatons champion was sitting at the end of the Ravenclaw table, and he had seen Viktor Krum sitting at the other end of the Slytherin table. His mind wandered to the ceremony and interviews that would be happening just after breakfast when he failed to see any signs of Harry.
The Great Hall fell silent when three people and a dog stopped in the doorway. All of the students recognized their old Defense Professor, Professor Lupin, quickly growing curious about the two people that were standing with him. Tonks had allowed her hair to settle into a more normal shade of brown similar to her father's, knowing she needed to be serious if she was going to be helping Harry during this tournament.
The one that caused the students to lean back in an attempt to get a better look was the boy standing between the two adults. He stood tall, giving off a sense of nobility and power. His blonde hair had been dyed a bright blue at the tips and he wore black robes that had the Potter Crest both on the right side of his chest and on the back. His gaze briefly swept across the Great Hall before settling on Headmaster Dumbledore as he took a step forward.
"How is it I'm not even attending school at Hogwarts and my name still gets drawn from a stupid cup?" Harry demanded; the anger evident in his voice.
