The next day after Kelly had already gone to work, Alex walked out of the house after hearing a thud. In her bushes, she found a toy helicopter with the Brainiac three-dot symbol on it. "What the fuck?" Alex wondered, looking it over.
"Well, look at you, Alex, you're the star of the show," Eliza said out of nowhere.
"Holy shit," Alex said startled.
"You ready to meet Queen Cul de Sac and her Merry Homemakers?" Eliza asked.
"They can't be as threatening as you say," Alex said dismissively.
"Alex, can I give you some motherly advice?" Eliza asked delicately.
"Is it the way I'm dressed?" Alex figured. She was all-black as usual.
"Yes, but it's too late for that," Eliza frowned. "Kara is key to this town, country club memberships, parties, and school admissions. You get in with Kara and it will be smooth sailing from here on out."
"Or maybe, just maybe, fuck Kara, and I'll just be myself," Alex refused.
Eliza simply gave her a blank look and then chuckled as if Alex had told a joke. "Oh, Alex, that's good." Kara then exited her house with a string of women behind her with baked goods.
"Hey, Kara, your roses are divine," Eliza complimented.
"I know, thank you," Kara said arrogantly. "Hurry the fuck up," she said to her train of women.
Outside the barrier, Brainiac 5 briefed the situation to the real Kara, Mon, and concerned Martian representatives. "We have successfully identified two humans within the anomaly," Brainiac 5 said, showing a photo of Alex and Kelly on the screen. "The rest of the cast of characters are long dead. They include Jeremiah and Eliza Danvers, Lloyd and Kenny Li, Jake Howell, and Vicki Donaghue. I believe these characters are being portrayed by Martians forced to use their shape-shifting ability within the barrier."
"The source of this barrier must be these two humans," a Martian chief suspected.
"Perhaps," Brainiac 5 admitted.
"All of these characters come from Midvale. It must be Alex's memory," Kara said. "She's either doing this on her own or someone is controlling her mind."
"I hold the Supreme Leader responsible for this," the Martian chief said boldly.
"No one knows, including Barney, what the fuck is going on. So, until we do, no one is to point fingers," Kara said as she pointed a finger at the chief.
"So, what is this shit? An alternate universe, time travel, some kind of social experiment?" Mon asked impatiently.
"It's a 1950s sitcom," Kara identified.
"I'm going to send a signal through the barrier that will mimic the barrier. I will target one of the radios inside the barrier. With this, I might be able to make contact with Alex," Brainiac 5 theorized.
"What's been happening to the drones you've sent in?" Mon asked.
"I have identified one of them. Upon entering the barrier, it became a toy helicopter," Brainiac 5 said, showing a picture on screen of the toy helicopter with the Brainiac logo on it.
"To go with the production design," Kara assumed.
"And to render it useless," Mon figured.
Once the radio came into view, Brainiac 5 took to the mic. "Alex, can you read me, over? Alex, who is doing this to you? Alex, can you hear me? I'm from the government and I'm here to help. Please give us a chance."
The radio then became deactivated ending the signal.
Inside the barrier, Alex and Eliza made their way to the Midvale Country Club. There, Kara ran the meeting with an iron fist. "The Rotary Club is finishing the stage set-up as we speak. They will be installing the final decorations all through the town square," Vicki Donaghue began. "You'll notice the coffee is supplied by my Talon store."
"And the chairs?" Kara asked.
"I'm sorry, Kara, I didn't ask about the chairs," Vicki admitted.
"Then, you better not ask me if you can chair any committees in the future," Kara said pissed off. "The devil's in the details, Vicki. You're fired." Kara then addressed the group. "As you all know, the talent show is the sole fundraiser for Midvale Elementary. In the last seven years, I have made this fundraiser bigger and better every year."
Vicki sat down next to Alex and started chatting with her as Kara was still talking. "Those pants are keen," Vicki said to Alex's black pants that clashed violently with the sunny day.
"You think so? The other ladies were in skirts, so I was worried," Alex said slightly concerned.
"It's perfectly alright. Lesbians always wear pants," Vicki said knowingly.
"We have a couple of hours until showtime so the people chatting in the background need to shut the fuck up and focus more," Kara scolded. "Those little boys and girls are counting on us. All of this is for the children."
"This is such bullshit," Alex said under her breath as she ate a cookie.
"For the children," all the other women said together except Alex.
"Alex, is there something you want to contribute to this meeting?" Kara asked.
"I'm just thinking we could get down to some serious business here," Alex said dismissively.
"Oh, really? I don't like your insolent tone," Kara said peeved.
"I meant nothing by it," Alex backtracked.
"You want to run things around here? You want to be mommy here? You want to wear the mommy pants?" Kara mocked. "You're going to have to be a mommy first."
"That goes too far," Alex said becoming visibly upset.
"Oh, you going to cry, Alex? You going to squirt some? Yeah, you're going to start crying. You're a big girl now. Yeah, thought so," Kara shut her down with her usual savagery.
Kara then refocused herself. "Tickets are completely sold out. That means, in the spirit of capitalism, we raise prices a shit-ton next year."
"I need a drink," Alex said completely distressed.
Once the meeting was over, Kara confronted Alex on her negative disposition. "I can't help but wonder if we've gotten off on the wrong foot, Alex. And I would like to correct that if I can," Kara said with false sincerity.
"And how would you do that?" Alex asked scornfully.
"I've heard queer things about you, Alex. You...and your wife," Kara sneered.
"Like what?" Alex scoffed. "I don't mean to create any harm by us."
"Yeah, bullshit," Kara doubted.
The two of them heard the radio suddenly turn to something else. "Alex...Alex, who's doing this to you?" Brainiac 5's voice could be heard on the other end. Alex and Kara gave the radio an odd look. Suddenly, the radio caught on fire and became disabled.
"Well, that was weird," Alex said befuddled.
Alex went over to the bar and found a dozen men at a table discussing town security. Jeremiah Danvers, Pete Ross, Jake Howell, Lloyd Li, and Kenny Li. "Is this...the neighborhood watch meeting?" Alex wondered.
"Oh, hi, Alex...well, we did expect you at the bar at some point," Pete smirked. "This is a members-only meeting."
"Then, I'll wait for new business," Alex replied.
"In truth, we were just getting to new business," Jeremiah admitted.
"Good, how often do you rotate security patrols? Do you interface directly with law enforcement? What are your protocols for threats, burglaries, graffiti, reckless driving, and alien teenage girls that commit murder?" Alex asked, getting to business.
"Raspberry or cheese-filled," Kenny said helpfully as he passed around the doughnut box.
"Neither for me, I'm trying not to get fat. I've seen what doughnuts have done to my father," Alex declined.
"Listen up, Alex has a point for once. I got some top-secret shit here," Jeremiah announced.
"Excellent," Alex said pleased.
"You know how Johnson has been bragging about that tree fortress he made for his kids? It's a prefab job. That man couldn't swing a hammer to save his life," Jeremiah reported.
"I can do one better. You know the bowling trophies Arthur is always polishing. He bought them all at a yard sale," Pete reported.
"I knew it. That motherfucker is never at the lanes," Jeremiah nodded.
"What the fuck is this? Some kind of gossip committee?" Alex asked shocked and appalled.
"Don't be such a square, Alex," Jake rolled his eyes.
"Midvale doesn't need protocols and security patrols. We haven't had anyone murdered in Midvale in the last thousand years," Kenny said dismissively.
That night, inside the barrier, Salu (Shrinking Violet) blew off a sewer cap and reached the surface as she regained normal size. She was still in her protective suit. As she looked around, Alex was immediately on her. "Yeah, no," Alex said to her.
The next morning, in the barrier, Alex and Kelly went for ice cream with Salu acting as a clerk in an ice cream store. Upon coming home, Alex had a doctor's appointment with Dr. Helen Bryce. "Yep, definitely pregnant," she confirmed.
"Kind of figured that," Alex rolled her eyes.
"It's just taken me by surprise," Kelly admitted. "I mean, it just happened practically overnight. How did this happen?"
"You see, when a woman and another woman love each other very much...actually, I have no fucking idea," Dr. Bryce admitted. "Did you have an affair with someone?"
"Well, we're just tickled pink," Alex said pleased as she stood up from the couch.
"You're about four months along now," Dr. Bryce figured.
"Sure," Alex humored her.
"At four months the fetus is as big as a pear," Dr. Bryce said.
"In twelve hours?" Kelly asked incredulously.
"I think this line of questioning is fruitless," Alex shut down.
"I think we should be concerned," Kelly said reasonably.
"Every...new lesbian mother-to-be gets a little nervous," Dr. Bryce said condescendingly.
"Didn't really answer my questions," Kelly said.
"Kelly, see the doctor out," Alex ordered.
"Yes, thank you very much, Dr. Bryce," Kelly said as she took her to the door.
"I'm just glad you caught me in time. I'm taking my husband, Lex Luthor, on vacation this afternoon," Dr. Bryce said conversationally.
"Have a nice vacation," Kelly said pleasantly. "You follow medical confidentiality, right? So, news of this shouldn't get out, right?"
"Of course. I'm off, Bermuda Triangle I go," Dr. Bryce said and then took off.
As Kelly came back in, Alex was now already six months pregnant. "Have you grown bigger?" Kelly asked amazed.
"I'm not sure from this angle," Alex admitted.
"I'm just proud to be a new...," Kelly said adoringly.
"Let's make something clear. I'm the mother and you're...the partner," Alex clarified.
"Oh, of course," Kelly said awkwardly.
"Let's start building the nest," Alex said brightly.
The two of them got the baby's room ready with pink walls, a crib, stuffed animals, a baby-changing table, and baby toys. "I must say, Alex, you've been dealing with morning sickness, mood swings, aching back, and swollen feet well," Kelly complimented.
"It's from all that para-military discipline and PT," Alex said simply.
"You should probably sit down," Kelly advised.
"I got this. All I feel is excitement...and... happiness," Alex realized. "I finally feel happy for the first time in a very long time...and she's kicking."
"Well, if you can feel the kick, that means you're at six months," Kelly said amazed. "I can't wait to meet Alex 2.0."
"Alex Two? I was thinking Kelly Two," Alex considered.
"It might be confusing if our children are Alex and Kelly. I mean, what if your daughter is Kara and Kara's daughter was Alex," Kelly said thoughtfully.
"Kara is definitely off the baby-name list," Alex glared.
"What about a hybrid name where we merge Kelly and Alex together?" Kelly suggested.
"Like Ally? No...Kelex," Alex decided.
Outside the barrier, Kara and Mon watched the TV showing the sitcom. "I think it's time...," Alex said, noticeably pregnant.
"To call the doctor?" Kelly figured.
"Why is this happening? It can't be purely for my enjoyment...can it?" Kara wondered, totally self-absorbed.
"I can't believe Alex and Kelly are having a baby. How the fuck is that even possible?" he asked.
"You're doing great. Look at me. It's time to start pushing. Are you ready? Push, Alex, push!" Kelly encouraged.
"This is so hawt," Mon said thoroughly entertained.
Kelly then brought a tan-skinned baby into view and then gave it back to Alex. "She's so perfect," Alex said adoringly.
"Ah, a girl," Kara smiled.
"I'll be sure to send a sympathy card in the mail," Mon rolled his eyes.
"Don't be like that. We are going to be heavily invested in the future of our new niece," Kara said pleased.
Inside the barrier, Alex and Kelly looked over the new baby. "Ten fingers and ten toes," Kelly counted. "She looks so healthy."
"I owe you so much, Kelly," Alex said appreciatively and gave her a kiss while holding the baby.
"You don't owe me anything. This is what being married is all about," Kelly smiled.
Alex placed the sleeping baby in the crib and began to sing to her. Kelly stared as Alex sang a tune in an alien language. "You're the Phoenix...aren't you?" Kelly questioned suddenly regaining control of her senses.
"What did you say?" Alex glared with red glowing eyes.
"Nothing," Kelly said dismissively. "Hey, I'll take the first shift rocking the baby."
"Kelly Olsen, you're new to this world. You have no family, no husband, and no home," Alex said to her.
"My home is with you, Alex," Kelly beseeched her.
Alex noticed Kelly's cross necklace. "That symbol."
"Alex, I'm your wife," Kelly said fearfully as Alex advanced on her.
"You're not my wife, you're not my friend. I no longer need you. As of right now, you're only a trespasser and I want you to leave," Alex said as she powered up red glowing orbs in her hands.
Alex then blasted Kelly through two house walls, through the fence, through several kilometers mid-air, and then outside the barrier. Alex then repaired the damage to her house and fence instantly. Alex then appeared slightly conflicted over what she had done.
Outside the barrier, Kelly was dragged across the Martian dirt. Kara, Mon, Brainiac 5, and several Martians were immediately on the scene. "Is she okay?" Kara asked alarmed.
Brainiac 5 immediately placed a medical scanner over her. "She'll live."
"It's Alex, it's all Alex," Kelly said bewildered and dazed.
"Well...no shit," Mon said obviously.
"This is some mind control bullshit. Where's Imra?" Kara asked Brainiac 5.
"Garth and she are on a mission," Brainiac 5 said vaguely.
"Get her ass back here. In fact, get all the S-Class Vindicators over here," Kara ordered.
Rimworld
"We're from the government, and we're here to help," Garth told a group of locals. They were inside the only building not destroyed in the city. It was night and the city had no power. "Looks like you all banded together and still got your asses kicked. That much I understand but against who?"
Garth waited patiently. "Anyone? The fucking fairy godmother did it?"
"We intercepted a distress call from this border world and investigated. You're the only survivors we found. I know you fear whoever did this to you, but you should fear us a lot more. So give us the information we want," Imra demanded.
"Whatever is behind this came in like a plasma wave. Entire villages just vanished instantly. Mass evac began in a wild panic. We pulled together to scramble everyone off the world as quickly as possible. We're all that is left. Whatever did this to us is still lurking out there," one weird-ass-looking alien said.
"I don't know. That sounds like bullshit," Garth doubted.
"There are minds outside. They could be sentience," Imra sensed.
"I don't give a damn if they're sentient or feral. I'll take a look," Garth said. "No one leaves this building."
Garth flew out of the building and found someone throwing debris around. He quickly identified the individual as Brin (Timber Wolf). He appeared humanoid at the moment wearing a black leather jacket. He was tossing large pieces of debris here and there. "What the fuck are you doing here?" Garth asked upon identifying him.
"Improving your shitty search and rescue stats," Brin replied as he lifted a large piece of debris with someone underneath it.
"Like I care about that stat," Garth rolled his eyes.
"Hurry the fuck up and get her," Brin said referring to the injured alien girl.
Garth snatched the girl away in a split second. "Looks like she's in shock...get it...cuz I shock people," he smirked. "How did you even find her?"
"I caught her scent," Brin explained.
"Well, thanks...old...ally," Garth said painfully.
"Are we not friends?" Brin asked hurt.
"You fuck my sister?" Garth asked.
"How could you ask me a question like that? We're brothers in arms. Where do you get the balls to ask me a question like that?" Brin deflected.
"Did you or did you not?" Garth pressed.
"I'm not going to answer that. It's a sick question, you're a sick fuck, and I'm not going to answer it. I've assessed the situation and I'm going to leave. I'm not staying on this shit-hole planet with you," Brin replied.
"Did you...or did you not?" Garth asked again.
"Bro, shut the fuck up," Brin told him off.
Garth and Brin arrived at the compound where the rest of the aliens. "Should have known it was you with that feral mind of yours," Imra insulted.
"How are you married to a telepath?" Brin wondered to Garth.
"I'm an honest man," Garth lied.
"Bullshit," Imra said otherwise.
Mars
"Imra and Garth had a mission on Rimworld but I've lost communications with them a few days ago. I sent Brin to go find them," Brainiac 5 said to Kara.
"Mon, teleport to Rimworld and get them back," Kara ordered.
"I've never been there so I can't," Mon told her.
"Send ships to get them," Kara ordered Brainiac 5.
"Those ships could end up ambushed. We have very little intelligence in that area. It's also on the edge of the galaxy." Brainiac 5 objected.
"Ultra Boy can do telepathy, he can do anything," Kara identified.
"He sucks...at everything," Mon reminded her.
"Bring him here," Kara ordered.
Earth
Jo (Ultra Boy) and Tasmia (Shadow Lass) went on a patrol around Metropolis via an order from Rokk (Cosmic Boy) to keep them busy. It was also a power-play by Rokk for Jo interfering in his discipline session earlier. "This is some bullshit," Jo complained.
"What am I, a complaint file? Take it up with Rokk," Tasmia told him.
"Get a look at that," Jo said resting on a rooftop of a skyscraper. In front of him was a giant TV monitor of a female news reporter. "She is so hot."
"Really?" Tasmia rolled her eyes.
Jo suddenly fired heat vision through the TV monitor destroying it. "Jo, what the fuck?" Tasmia freaked out.
"It just happened, I swear," Jo said stunned. "I didn't mean it," he stuttered as he vibrated super-fast.
"Jo, slow down. Can you hear me?" Tasmia asked, noticing something was really wrong with him. Jo suddenly teleported into a wall crushing his body. "Go invulnerable," Tasmia suggested.
"Too late," Jo said painfully as he rapidly healed his body.
"How many times has this happened?" Tasmia asked him.
"Twice this week but I'm totally in control of my powers," Jo lied, still implanted in the building.
"Is that what Barney said?" Tasmia questioned.
"I didn't tell Barney shit," Jo said disrespectfully.
"We had a deal, Jo. After you set fire to my bed, I said I wouldn't snitch you out to the Supreme Leader if you talked with Barney," Tasmia said pissed off.
"So Rokk can kick me out of the corps and Barney can dissect me? Fuck that," Jo refused.
"Karate Kid, come to my position. I need you to teach Jo your meditation technique, so he doesn't explode in a nova blast that destroys half the city," Tasmia radioed.
"Holy shit," Val (Karate Kid) replied.
"Don't tell anyone," Tasmia ordered.
Inside the barrier, Alex brought a random Martian to her house. With a simple hand gesture, Alex changed the Martian's appearance to Kelly and controlled the Martian's mind to her bidding. The two then watched TV together as Alex held her baby.
