Chapter 9
Ash Ketchum watched as his Pokemon ate their lunch. It was mid-day, and Ash and his team had been training all morning, preparing for their second-round match. Ash had downed his lunch in mere seconds. He was glad that he had mastered changing forms without the flute, and could now do it easily, although it took a few seconds. Now, AJ was going to have him focus on transforming faster.
As Ash thought back on the day's events, he heard a slight rustle in the bushes to his left. He watched them curiously as a small, fox-like Pokemon ran out. Ash recognized it as an Eevee. It seemed frightened by something, and he got up and walked up to the Pokemon, who cowered at the sight of him. When he took a closer look, the Eevee seemed to be wearing a necklace of some sort. It was made of a silver-like material, and a white crystal hung from the front.
"D-don't hurt me!" The Eevee cried in a feminine voice. Ash crouched down lowly and patted the Eevee on her head gently.
"I'm not here to hurt you," Ash said in a soothing voice, trying to calm the poor Eevee. "but are you ok? What are you running from?"
The Eevee visibly started to calm down a bit. "Poachers," she said, "they want my Evolution Amulet."
"Ash scowled at the mention of poachers and asked. "What's an Evolution Amulet? I've never heard of such a thing."
Eevee was startled at the realization that Ash understood her. "You understand me?" She asked.
"Yes," Ash said. "It's a long story. Right now, you need help. Those poachers are most likely on their way."
"Okay," Eevee said. "the Evolution Amulet allows the holder to… Evolve at any time, and evolve back to their previous form. That allows me to evolve into any of my eight evolutions and back whenever I want."
Ash looked interested but decided to want to ask questions, as there was a voice from the woods.
"There it is!" one voice called.
"Let's Get it!" another yelled. Ash knew these must be the poachers, and Ash called for his Pokemon, who ran over right as the duo of poachers came out of the brush, and spotted Eevee, who was hiding behind one of Ash's legs.
"Hey, kid!" one said, "If you know what's good for you, then you'd better hand over that Eevee right now!"
Ash was not intimidated. "Back off," he said, "Eevee is staying here. You aren't getting your hands on her!"
The poacher on the left growled and grabbed a Pokeball. "Alright, you asked for it kid!" He threw the Pokeball, releasing a Skarmory, which glared at Ash and his Pokemon, other than Latias and Latios, who were invisible so the criminals wouldn't spot them.
"Skarmory, teach these punks a lesson with your Steel Wing!" The Poacher demanded. The Skarmory let out a battle cry and launched toward Cyndaquil, who jumped out of the way. "Cyndaquil, use Flamethrower!" Ash called to his Johto starter. The small Pokemon launched a wave of flames at the steel-covered bird, who was roasted by the attack and grounded. The poacher kicked the downed bird before returning it, causing Ash to glare at him.
"Go, Rydon!" The second poacher yelled, and the large Rock Type gave a battle cry as it was released.
"Use Take Down, Rydon!" The poacher yelled, and the pokemon charged at Cyndaquil, slamming into him and knocking him out. The poacher then got an idea. "Rydon, use Horn Drill on that boy!" Ash let out a gasp as the large Pokemon charged at him, and his pokemon yelled his name. Suddenly, Eevee jumped in front of Ash and her Amulet flashed light blue, and light enveloped her.
When the light died down, a Glaceon was now standing in her place. She shot a large Ice Beam at the Rydon, and it collapsed a few feet in front of them from the Super Effective attack. Glaceon spotted the poachers, who were attempting to sneak off. Her amulet glowed purple, and the light coated her once more. After it died down, she had become an Espeon. She ran in front of the poachers and her eyes glowed as the poachers made eye contact. They both promptly collapsed as the hypnosis attack did its job.
Ash quickly had Bulbasaur bind the criminals with his vines, and he called officer Jenny, who quickly arrived to arrest the poachers.
"Thanks for saving me, Eevee, er, Glaceon, er... Espeon!" Ash said in confusion. "Man, that's confusing!" Espeon laughed as she allowed the light to fade from her amulet, allowing the white glow to cover her, and returned to being an Eevee. "Well, you're welcome, and I guess you better think of a nickname because I think I want to come along with you!"
"A nickname?" Ash asked, then suddenly realized what she had said. "Wait?! You want to come with us? Why?" He asked in surprise. The Eevee nodded her head, giggling at his reaction.
"I saw how you handled that Skarmory!" She said. "Cyndaquil is strong for having not evolved! Plus, when I was around you, I suddenly felt stronger and I was able to defeat those poachers. I think you would make a perfect trainer!"
"Well, I wouldn't say that!" Ash said, blushing a bit from the praise. "I just do what I can!"
"I don't care! I want to become stronger, and see the world!" the young Eevee said. "I want to travel with you!"
Ash thought it over for a second. "Well, if you want to join me, then we'd be glad to have you!"
Eevee pranced around Ash happily. "Yay! Thank you!" Ash pulled out an empty Pokeball and lightly tapped Eevee's head with it after she came over to him. She was absorbed by the ball in a beam of red energy and allowed herself to be captured. Ash, of course, did his normal pose for catching a pokemon, which Pikachu, Latias, and Latios all sweatdropped at.
Ash called out his new pokemon and decided that since she was now a part of the team, he had to let her in on a couple of things. First off, however, he realized something. "It's going to be difficult calling you by your species name, considering you can change between evolutions at will," Ash said. "I think you are going to need a nickname!" Eevee thought about it for a second. "Ok! I've never had a nickname before!"
Ash thought over some names in his head. He had never nicknamed a pokemon before, so this was new to him. Finally, he came up with an idea. "How about 'Skye'?"
Eevee thought it over for a few seconds, then smiled brightly. "I love it!" she said.
Ash, smiled, happy with his success. "Glad you like it," he said. He then suddenly remembered something. "Oh, man! We have to go and train! But before we do, I have something that I need to tell you." Skye looked at him confusedly. "Sense you're a part of the team now, you need to know, Ash continued. He built up energy in his body and was coated in a blue glow. When it subsided, he was in his eon form. Skye gasped and stared at him. "Y-you're a Latios?!"
Ash smiled. "Not exactly. You see, I am actually half human, half pokemon. I only became part eon after an incident in a water city called Altomare. I gained that from saving a friend. By the way, you can reveal yourselves now!" He then called to his two invisible eons.
They smiled and dropped their invisibility, startling Skye. "Latios, and Latias?!" Skye exclaimed.
Latias giggled at her reaction. "Yep!" She said. "We decided to go with Ash after he saved my brother's life."
Skye was surprised. "Wow, Ash! You saved a legendary Pokemon's life? Do you understand how big of a deal that is?"
"Yeah," Ash said, rubbing the back of his neck. "Latios wouldn't stop bugging me about that until I agreed with him. Anyway, let's get back to training!" His Pokemon all nodded and went back to the training field.
Ash and his pokemon all trained for the rest of the day, only stopping for dinner and a break or two. Ash met up with AJ that evening and got a small amount of speed training with him, which ended with Ash going much faster than AJ from the start, so he didn't need much.
The next day came quickly, and Ash was called to the arena for his round 2 match. He looked across the battlefield and met eyes with his opponent, Christy.
"Good Luck!" He called over to her, and she smiled. "Same to you!" She said. The referee went over the rules of the match. It was to be a three-on-three and had the same rules as the first round.
The referee held up his flags. "Begin!"
Ash took his first Pokeball off of his belt. "Go, Noctowl!" He said as he threw it. Noctowl appeared in a flash of white light and a few sparkles danced over him for a few seconds.
"Wow, you have a shiny!" Christy said pulling out her first Pokeball. "Well, I know just how to deal with that! Dewgong!" She threw the Pokeball, and the Dewgong appeared in a bright flash of light. Dewgong and Noctowl's icons appeared on the screen.
"It has been decided that Ash will get the first move!" The referee called. Ash nodded and called up to his pokemon. "Noctowl, use Quick Attack!" Noctowl nodded and launched himself at Dewgong. He rammed into his target, doing a bit of damage.
"Dewgong, use blizzard!" Christy yelled, and her Dewgong let out a powerful snowstorm at Noctowl, who attempted to dodge but was still in close range due to his quick attack. He was hit by the attack and fell to the ground. However, he had not gotten knocked out and was able to slowly get up. "Good job, Noctowl!" Ash encouraged. "Hang in there and use Hypnosis!" Noctowl stared at Dewgong, and Dewgong promptly fell over and started to snore. "Ok, Noctowl, now use Steel Wing!"
Noctowl shot off at the sleeping Dewgong and slammed his glowing wings into the ice/water type. Sadly for Ash and Noctowl, Dewgong's eyes shot open and he got up.
"Yes, your awake Dewgong!" Christy cheered. "Okay, use Sheer Cold!" Ash gasped. Noctowl, get out of there!" But it was too late. The powerful ice attack slammed into Noctowl and instantly knocked him out.
"Noctowl is unable to battle, Dewgong wins!" The referee called.
The announcer then spoke up. "And there goes Ash's Noctowl folks! I wonder what he'll use next!"
"Okay Skye, you're up!" Ash said, throwing out his second Pokeball. The Eevee emerged from her ball and landed in a battle-ready position.
"Okay, Dewgong, Use, Ice Beam!" Christy called. As the attack approached, Ash called out his next command. "Skye, Ice!" Skye nodded, and her amulet flashed light blue. The Eevee promptly evolved into Glaceon and took the attack. Christy gasped, and Ash called out to his Eevee again. "Electric, then use Thunderbolt!" Skye's amulet flashed yellow this time, and she became a Jolteon. She then launched a thunderbolt at the surprised Dewgong, and since it was a super-effective hit and the fact that Dewgong was weak from using Sheer Cold, it was knocked out.
Up in the stands, Professor Oak spat his drink all over the person sitting in front of him. "I did not just see a Glaceon evolve into a Jolteon!" he said. "I must be going crazy!" Delia, who was sitting beside him, ignored him. She was taking so many pictures, he couldn't believe she hadn't run out of film yet.
Chrisy returned her Dewgong and called out another pokemon. This time, it was a Machoke. "Okay, Machoke, use Seismic Toss!" The Machoke ran up and pick up Skye, and was promptly electrocuted for his efforts. "Skye, Psychic, then use Psybeam!" Skye's amulet flashed purple, and she became an Espeon. She then launched a beam of psychic energy at Machoke, who took a lot of damage thanks to the super-effective hit.
"Machoke, use Rock Throw!" Christy called. Machoke threw a large boulder he got from who-knows-where, and after it got about halfway to Skye, she blasted it with a psychic, and it shattered in mid-air.
"Alright Skye, use psychic!" said Ash. Skye launched the attack at Machoke, doing significant damage and almost knocking it out.
"Machoke, use Dual Chop!" said Christy.
"Counter with swift!" said Ash.
The two moves collided, eventually revealing a slightly-bruised Espeon and a fainted Machoke.
"Machoke is unable to battle! Espeon wins!" The referee announced.
"Okay," Christy said. "Let's turn this around! "Go, Onix!"
As the pokemon materialized, Skye turned back into an Eevee and waited for a command.
"Skye, return!" said Ash. "Pikachu! Let's do this!"
"Ash Ketchum makes the questionable decision of switching out his, uh, Eevee with his Pikachu." said the referee.
"Pikachu, use Electro Web on the wall!" said Ash.
'Huh? Why would he do that?" thought Christy. "Ok, Onix, use Earthquake!"
"Pikachu, use Electro Ball to shoot yourself into the air!" yelled Ash. Pikachu did so and was soon flying over the stadium, avoiding the Earthquake.
"Onix, use Tail Whip!"
"Pikachu, take the hit and use Quick Attack on the Electro Web!"
As commanded, Pikachu took the Tail Whip and further boosted his already fast speed with Quick Attack.
"Now, bounce off the Electro Web and use Agility and Iron Tail on Onix!"
Christy stared wide-eyed as Pikachu bounced off the Electro Web and hit Onix with a blindingly fast Iron Tail. The super-effective hit, along with Pikachu's momentum from Tail Whip, Quick Attack, and Agility, was just too much for Onix. It staggered for a moment before falling to the ground, completely knocked out.
"After a brilliant show of skill from Ash Ketchum," said the referee, still not believing his eyes, "Onix is unable to battle, therefore Pikachu wins, and with two pokemon remaining, Ash Ketchum wins the match!"
"Yes!" Ash cheered. "Great job, Pikachu! You were amazing!"
Pikachu jumped into Ash's arms and promptly hopped onto his shoulder. Ash smiled and went back to meet up with his friends.
Well, I hope you enjoyed the chapter!
As you can see, I've decided to add a bit more detail to my battle scenes.
This is also the last chapter of the original book by R37uy, so the next chapter may take a little longer as I am writing it from scratch.
