Chapter 12

"Let's go first, Bayleef, use Razor Leaf!"

"Counter with Stone Edge!"

The two attacks collided, sending both Pokemon skidding back.

"Better than I thought Ashy-boy," commented Gary, "I guess it's time to use our full power, Nidoqueen, use Toxic!"

"Bayy!" Bayleef shouted as the poison started to damage her.

"Bayleef, use Solar Beam!"

Bayleef began to gather sunlight, charging up a powerful solar beam.

The battle between Ash and Gary raged on. First, Nidoqueen defeated Bayleef, then Nidoqueen and Totodile were both knocked out. Next, Skye lost to Golem. Then, Pikachu defeated Golem and tied with Arcanine.

"Ok, Charizard let's go!" shouted Ash. "Charr!" Charizard roared in reply.

'He's using Charzard already?' thought Gary, 'I thought he'd save him for last, oh well,' "Let's go Blastoise!"

"Charizard, use Fire Blast!"

"Water gun!"

The two moves collided, sending steam all over the battlefield.

"Charzard, use Flamethrower on the battlefield!"

"Blastiose, use Rapid Spin to clear the steam!"

Blastoise spun around, revealing a slightly melted battlefield.

"Blastoise, use Hydro Pump!"

"Charziard, dodge and use Siesmic Toss!"

"Char!" Charizard swooped down, dodging the Hydro Pump, and grabbed Blastoise. He then proceeded to swoop up into the air with Blastoise in his claws.

"Blastoise, use bite!" yelled Gary desperately.

"Keep going Charizard, toss Blastoise!" yelled Ash.

Charizard shoved aside the pain of Blastoise chomping down on his arm and threw Blastoise to the ground as hard as he could. There was a huge cloud of dust and when it cleared both Pokemon were knocked out on the ground.

Gary gave an amused smile. "I'm impressed Ashy-boy, you managed to defeat my Blastoise with a type disadvantage. However, I still have two Pokemon and you only have one left. So, what I'm saying is, good job on making it this far, but this is as far as you'll get."

Latios smirked. "Ready Ash?"

"Definitely! Let's go crush Gary!"

"Go Magmar!"

"Go Latius!"

Gary looked in shock at the orange-colored lati floating on the other side of the battlefield. 'What is that Pokemon?' He thought. He brought out his Pokedex and pointed it at the unknown Pokemon. "NO DATA AVAILABLE," It said in a robotic voice. Gary tensed. Was this why Ash didn't seem worried even though it was 2 to 1?

In the Stands…

"Wait, Oak, I thought Ash was Latius," said Professor Birch.

Professor Oak had been scratching his head ever since 'Ash' sent out Latius. "I can't figure it out Birch unless…"

"Unless what?" asked the curious professor.

"Unless Ash had Latios or Latias disguise as him to use himself to battle!" exclaimed Professor Oak.

"Is that within tournament rules?" asked Birch.

"I suppose," said Professor Oak thoughtfully, "it doesn't say you can't so…"

Ash grinned. He had been waiting to demolish Gary, and now all he had to do was knock out two Pokemon.

"Magmar, use flame charge!"

Ash responded with a psychic so powerful that it bashed Magmar unconscious on the ground. Ash smirked.

'Why did that Pokemon just smirk at me?' thought Gary, 'Oh well, this is my last shot,'

"Go Scizor, use Bug Bite!"

"Hey, Ash," telepathed Latios, "try using Luster Purge, it won't hurt Scizor too much since he's 4 times resistant to it, but, you know,"

"How about Mist Ball?" asked Latias.

"Well then," replied Ash, "guess I'll just have to use both of them then!"

"But how…"

Latios got his answer when Ash surrounded himself with a giant sphere of light and mist and shot at Scizor at about 4 times the speed of sound. The result? Even with 4 times resistance, Scizor was doomed to faint from the combined Mist Ball/Luster Purge. Heck, even a dark type might take damage from a move like that.

"Scizor is unable to battle, which means the winner of this match is Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town!" shouted the announcer.

Later…

"So you went to Altomare, saved two legendaries, became one, and used Latios as an illusion so YOU could beat me in our battle?" asked Gary, having just heard what seemed like the craziest story in his life.

Ash scratched his head. "Yes?"

"You know, you're crazier than I once thought Ashy-boy," said Gary.

"I thought I asked you to stop calling me that?" asked Ash.

"Anyway," said Professor Oak, "congratulations to both of you for making it this far in the league! In fact, you two are the only two trainers from Pallet Town ever to even qualify for the Silver Conference."

"So," said Delia, "after the conference is over, we're going to have a huge celebration in Pallet Town for both of you!"

"You know," said Gary, "after this battle, I've decided I want to focus more on researching Pokemon. Battles aren't really my thing, even though I have had a lot of fun,"

"That's great Gary!" said Professor Oak, "And speaking of Pokemon research, how on earth does you're Eevee evolve and then de-evolve back again Ash?"

"I'm not completely sure," said Ash, "she said that the evolution amulet helped her do it, but I don't know exactly how it works,"

"Would you mind if I borrowed that amulet?" asked Professor Oak, "It would just be for a little while, and I'll give it back as soon as I'm done,"

"I'll ask her about it, hold on a sec," said Ash, "Hey Skye, Professor Oak wants to have a look at your evolution amulet, would you mind letting him borrow it?"

"I guess, but just for a little," replied Skye.

"She said you could, but only for a short time," said Ash.

"Great!" said Professor Oak, stars shimmering in his eyes at the prospect of making a huge breakthrough in the study of Pokemon evolution. "I'll send it back to you as soon as possible,"

"Wait," said Gary, "how did you know what Skye said? She wasn't even out of her pokeball,"

"Oh that," said Ash, "well, apparently I can use telepathy now because I'm part psychic-type and it seems to work through the pokeball so…"

Back in Ash's room…

"Ok everyone, you all did awesome today, so tomorrow, you guys can have the whole day off!" There were many cheers at that statement. "You can train if you want," said Ash, "but you don't have to. By the way, Latios, do you mind if I use you in my next match?"

"Sure," said Latios.

"And Latias, would you like to take part in any of the battles?"

"I'm still thinking about that," replied Latias, "I just don't really like battling, sorry about that,"

"Don't worry," said Ash, "I have plenty of other strong Pokemon so you won't have to battle,"

"Don't forget," said Pikachu, "we have a mission from Arceus after the Silver Conference,"

"Right," said Ash, "although I don't know how we're going to prepare for that…"

"We still have those weird mega-stone things," said Latios.

"Good point," said Ash, "tomorrow we'll try to figure out how to use them. Anyway, time for bed everyone today's been a long day,"
