A/N: I was ill not long ago, and often when I am, I crave fanfiction of a very specific ship and for some reason, I craved Scorose this time. I know that Scorose isn't the most popular ship, mainly because Scorpius and Albus had much more chemistry in CC than Scorpius and Rose did. That's why it's very hard to find fanfiction of Scorose and when there weren't enough of them for me to read while I was sick, I decided to write my own. The chapters are pretty short and there will probably only be around 10, so it's a pretty quick read, you can squeeze it anywhere and I'll be very happy if you do :)
NOT COMPLIANT WITH CURSED CHILD
*DISCLAIMER: I don't own Harry Potter, if you don't know that, I think you should stop living under a rock. It's only acceptable when Patrick does it.
I posted the prologue of this story on Commaful first under a slightly different title and a few small changes to the text. The other chapters will not be posted there.
Rose Granger-Weasley had already changed from the sweater with a big »R« that her grandma had given her for Christmas into her school robes and was now adjusting her prefect badge with a proud look on her face. Christmas holidays at the Burrow were fun, of course, but her badge didn't have a meaning there. Instead of giving her the power to take away or award house points, it merely gave her cousin James the power to make fun of her for wearing it outside school.
Now, however, she was back on the Hogwarts express and the final destination wasn't far away. Her face was gleaming with contentment and not even her cousin Albus's best friend could spoil her good mood. It's true, she hadn't always found him as annoying as she did now. In fact, their relationship has changed a lot over the years. There was year one, when she despised him. Her father had told her all about his family and she's read enough history books on the second wizarding war that she knew about his Death Eater roots.
And then Albus, yes, her favourite cousin Albus, befriended him and started convincing her that Scorpius Malfoy is actually great and nothing like what they were told about his family. She didn't believe him, not entirely.
But at the same time, she was aware that with being sorted in a different house than Al, the two of them couldn't hang out as much as she wanted them to. She made peace with the fact that in those precious moments when the two of them could enjoy each other's company, Scorpius Malfoy was going to be there too.
Then came year two and by then, she was already warming up to the platinum blonde boy. The three of them hung out whenever they could, though Rose made sure she and Scorpius would never end up alone without Albus. He on the other hand, was always excited when the opportunity arose to be alone with the girl. She was brave and smart and beautiful; how could he not have developed a crush on her? His stupid compliments, declarations of love, and promises that they were going to get married one day were annoying and with every passing day, she had found him more and more obnoxious. If she wasn't scared of losing house points, she would have hexed him right there on the spot. Who compliments a girl by saying she smells like freshly baked bread?!
She distanced herself from the group that year. She missed Al a lot, but Scorpius was becoming impossible to stand.
The summer after second year, she and Al got in a couple fights about it and after realising that she loves her cousin too much, she decided to give Scorpius another chance.
That all changed, however, when September came around. Instead of choosing two electives, as was mandatory, she decided she would take up as many classes as she could fit into her schedule, which, turns out, was only three: Arithmancy, Study of Ancient Runes, and Care of Magical Creatures.
She walked into the Arithmancy classroom, and he was there. Albus wasn't. She decided it was best to pretend Malfoy wasn't there and her plan was coming along great.
The next day, she had Care of Magical Creatures and though Malfoy was also attending the class, she was glad because Al was there too.
Seeing as Malfoy was in both of those subjects, she was certain that she'll be free of him in Study of Ancient Runes. After all, only two electives were mandatory, and even if he did pick a third one, there was a very slight chance of him picking Study of –
Of course he did.
He was already in the classroom, sorting his quills and parchment.
Now that Rose thought about it, Malfoy probably picked the same classes as her, just because of his stupid crush!
(Albus was in big trouble if he was the one who told Malfoy what electives she was taking!)
She was more than done with pretending he was not there. Knowing what Malfoy had done, she had decided to confront him.
"YOU! Would you stop stalking me?! I told you last year I –"
"I'm not stalking you," he replied, turning red at hearing Rose's accusations.
She was standing centimetres from him and her face was so filled with anger, Scorpius was almost afraid of her.
"You applied for every elective I applied for and I know it isn't a coincidence."
"Maybe not," he shrugged. "I applied for four electives, and apparently, you applied for three, we're bound to have a few in common."
"You couldn't have applied for four, you can't fit that many in your schedule!"
"Correction: You can't fit that many in your schedule. I can. I talked to the Headmistress about it; on Tuesdays I leave Arithmancy 10 minutes early so I can go to Muggle Studies, of course I also miss the first ten minutes of that but –"
At that point of his speech, he noticed Rose's eyes dangerously narrowing and her face becoming even more furious, if that was possible. As scary as she was, shooting arrows from her eyes at him, she was also kind of cute and he liked it.
"What's wrong? Jealous of my full schedule, are you?"
She could hardly stop herself from hexing him.
"Why do you even want to attend Muggle Studies, you hate Muggles!" she paused. "Oh right, you applied for as many classes as you could, increasing the possibility we'll end up together in a class!"
"Not everything is about you, you know. I applied for four electives because I'm interested in the topic. And by the way, I have nothing against Muggles. I don't know what your parents told you about mine, but my father has changed and, either way, I am not my parents, you know!"
Still angry, but feeling defeated and therefore silent, Rose sat down at a desk as far as possible from Malfoy.
Once the exam season started, she felt devastated, realising she wasn't top of the class in every subject anymore. Despite being an annoying git, Scorpius was apparently quite intelligent. To the disappointment of her friends, Rose was now spending even more time in the library than she did before.
Their rivalry was raging like a forest fire over the years as they grew more and more competitive and by their fifth year at Hogwarts, Albus had had more than enough of it.
You actually read this entire prologue, wow. You have no idea how happy you just made me. I hope you enjoyed it and will give the upcoming chapters a read too.
