Ch2

He found himself in his mother's hall. Hecate was tending to the fire her brow furrowed as she watched the flames dance around.

"Mother what is it?"

"The flames wax and wane. Many paths open and close." His mother turned to him her eyes calm. "You are at an important crossroad, make sure to choose wisely."

He looked down trying to think of what she could mean. "You mean Percy Jackson?" It still doesn't make sense why Hades would personally send a kindly one after a demigod who didn't know his own heritage."

Hecate turned to the fire. The fight replayed in the flames before flickering away. "That boy will choose our fate I can see it. Keep an eye on him."

He frowned. "They are taking him to their camp?"

The flames flickered and lit the room. "A few of your siblings have been there," His mother said.

"But you don't have a cabin and aren't respected there," he said the bitterness in his voice building up. "Why should I go to a place where you aren't welcomed."

His mother's dark eyes rested upon him, her expression unreadable. "As my son you should know better to judge what we don't understand. Nothing is set in stone Alabaster."

He didn't know how to respond. As a child of Hecate he learned from his mother, his aunt, and from others. He didn't need a place where his mother was not respected.

"Go," his mother said calmly. "Show this camp what my child can do."

Her voice was like a switch in his head. Maybe these campers should be taught what it means to respect his mother? A burning fire was lit up inside of him. Maybe I should teach them some respect. Show them what mother is really capable of.

"Fine," he muttered. "But I'll just observe the camp for a while." At least that way he could personally tell his other siblings how it's a waste of their time to go to a place where they aren't wanted.

"Our paths in life are always changing dear," his mother said. "Be safe Alabaster."

When he awoke it was still night. Rubbing his eyes he carefully got out of bed. I might as well set some foundation. He manipulated the mist around him as he headed towards Mr. Brunner's office.

The room as a lit and he could hear the man speaking with Grover on the other side. "I can't mess up this time sir," Grover pleaded.

He knocked the door and opened it. "Good evening Mr. Torrington what brings you here?" Mr. Brunner asked politely.

"I think we can speak honestly," He said as he closed the door behind him. "You both know I'm a demigod."

Grover and Mr. Brunner exchanged a look between them. "I've already figured that out," Mr. Brunner said folding his arms. "Tell me are you on your mother's errand."

His postured stiffened. "It was her idea for me to get some education." Meeting the man's eyes he didn't know how much he knew of him but he could tell he was no fool.

"I see." Mr. Brunner folded his arms "Well if you wish to come to camp Grover will be more than happy to escort you."

He nodded and turned to the Satyr. "When do we leave?"

Grover looked down his face turning pale. "Um at the end of term."

"Good. Don't worry I can defend myself," he said before leaving the room.

The next few weeks were arduously boring as he did his best to tolerate the school more and more. He kept an eye on Percy Jackson who seemed to be giving up hope about school each passing day and would watch him cautiously out of the corner of his eye.

Eventually the time came to leave the school, he had to admit he was nervous going into a place he didn't know well. "Alright just follow me from another car," Grover said as they walked to the bus. "Make sure we aren't followed."

"Got it," he said as he shuffled his cards in his hand.

"Just hope this doesn't end in disaster," Grover muttered as he told him how to get to the camp and where they would meet up in case things went wrong.

With that he kept his distance on the ride to New York. A camp for demigods. He didn't know really what to expect but he would make sure his mother is respected there one way or another.

He kept close to Percy and Grover behind using a concealment spell. However, at a train stop he found the satyr looking around the bathroom with a panic stricken face.

"What happened?" He asked.

"I just left for a five minutes and he ran off," Grover said. "Oh gods I can't believe I lost him."

"Calm down," he said putting magic into his words. "You're his friend where would he go?"

The satyr took a deep breath. "I have a few ideas."

"Go. I'll meet you near the camp," he said.

Grover looked up at him and nodded. "I'll find him don't worry."

They went their sperate ways. The dark clouds hung over him as he drudged his way to the meeting location. He pulled up his hoody and put on his bullet proof vest as a cold wind passed by him.

Can't be too cautious. He cast a spell to keep himself dry as the rain began to fall. He had his cards ready in case of anything as he walked along the area. Alright satyr where are you?

The sky became darker as he drudged along the grass, the wind and rain growing stronger until it became a full on storm. That was when he heard the sound of a car crashing into something large.

He quickly ran to the sound and froze at the sight of a minotaur pulling the doors off of an old car. Grover, Percy Jackson, and a woman he assumed to be his mother came out of the car.

He swore as he drew his golden sword from a card. "Stulti Carcer!" the minotaur tried to moved but roared as his feet moved slowly.

"Percy run!" Ms. Jackson yelled as the minotaur grabbed a piece grabbed her around the neck.

He snapped his finger and sent a rune at her, as soon as it made contact he tried to teleport her towards him but was surprised when in an instant she was turned into golden dust.

"NO!" Percy yelled falling to his knees.

A transportation spell? He looked down at his hand and clenched the rune in his palm, it was still active but being repressed. It must have been someone stronger than me. So there are other actors involved. He slashed at the Minotaur's arm, it roared in pain as it tried to grab them.

"Get him out of here!" He yelled as he blasted the minotaur with a ball of green fire.

The satyr was trying to persuade Percy but the boy's eyes were burning with anger and tears. The minotaur roared as it tried to moved, it through a piece of the car at Grover knocking the satyr out.

Damn it this will be tough. He snapped his fingers and sent some explosive runes flew at the minotaur knocking the creature down with a scream.

That was when he noticed Percy stand next to him his eyes dazed with anger. "Can you help me kill this thing?"

He nodded. "Don't worry she isn't dead this thing just took her." Looking down at his hand he still felt the rune he placed on her. "She's alive."

The boy looked at him as if he didn't know if he believed him but there was hope in his eyes as he slowly nodded.

He quickly chanted a spell and threw some runes at Percy, the boy's body lit up. "Don't die."

"If she's alive I don't intend to," Percy said as the minotaur roared and threw the remainder of the car at them.

He chanted a spell and swung his sword. A sharp gale cut the car in half and knocked the minotaur down. That was when Percy ran at the minotaur and lunged at the horn.

"Hey wait!" He swore and went to help him. Gripping his sword tightly he plunged it into the minotaur's chest just as Percy tore off the horn. The monster roared as it turned into dust.

Falling on a knee he took a few deep breaths as Percy collapsed on the ground. Great. He quickly chanted a strengthening spell and slowly got up. Normally he shouldn't use too much magic when pushed to the limit but he was used to dealing with the exhaustion.

He quickly went over and picked up Percy who was muttering something about Grover and his mother.

With a grunt he carried the boy and managed to pick up the satyr who was semi conscious. "The barrier is that way," Grover muttered. He nodded and headed towards the barrier, as he passed through it he felt the familiar presence of Greek magic.

Well here I am. His eyes became heavy as he found the porch of a building and slowly set Percy and Grover down. He looked up at the sky and collapsed on the ground.

When he awoke his body was aching. "Be careful you used a lot of energy," said a familiar voice. He turned and saw Mr. Brunner who was now a centaur.

"Chiron I presume?"

The centaur nodded. "Mr. Torrington. Looks like your mother is watching over you."

Chiron pointed at his head and he noticed a small glowing torch. His posture turned rigid. "So what now?"

The centaur sighed. "Unfortunately your mother does not have a cabin, you will stay with the Hermes Cabin with the others."

He gripped his sheets, it took him all his will power to not get angry but there was some sympathy in the centaur's eyes and arguing with someone who had no power over the situation was pointless.

"You have my thanks for saving Percy and Grover," Chiron said. "I'll assign a tour guide." The centaur got up and looked at Percy. "If you don't mind, please keep an eye on him."

He looked at the centaur and at Percy. Who is his parent? Something was up, why would Chiron look after Percy at school and why would a centaur go after him? "Fine."

"Thank you and welcome to Camp Half Blood," Chiron said before exiting the room.

After a few days he was ready to leave and Percy woke up. "Where is she?" The boy asked.

Grover looked at him. "I'm sorry Percy."

A pang hit his heart, he didn't know Percy well but he knew how it was to love a mother.

Percy looked up at him his gaze determined. "You said she wasn't dead right?"

He scratched his head. Wasn't expecting him to remember that. "I can still feel the spell I casted on her. My mother is Hecate goddess of magic."

Grover cleared his throat. "Alabaster your tour guide is waiting for you outside, I'll take him to Chiron."

"Got it." He got up and stretched. "I'll see you around Percy."

Percy Jackson looked at him and nodded, his gaze never leaving him as he left the room. Outside he found a Japanese kid a few years older than him with short black hair. "You're my guide."

"Ethan Nakamura," The boy said extending a hand.

He shook it. "Alabaster Torrington son of Hecate."

Ethan nodded. "Another son of a minor god. We'll be living together in the Hermes Cabin. I'm unclaimed" There was a hint of bitterness in his voice that made his hairs stand up.

"Well lets get this tour out of the way," he said.

Ethan nodded and began to show him around the camp. It was decent summer camp, he had magic workshops with his aunt in worse places. Yet as he saw all the cabins his brow furrowed and his anger grew. Not one for her. They couldn't make one for her. His blood boiled as he counted the cabins, it took all his will to not light one in fire out of protest.

"Yeah you get used to it," Ethan said softly. "Us unclaimed and children of the minor gods are just thrown into the Hermes Cabin." There was a mixture of anger and resentment in his voice. "Some get used to it, some just give up."

"Did you ever meet yours?" he asked.

Ethan shook his head. "Never. You?"

He awkwardly avoided his gaze. "A few times." Hecate was always more conscious of her children's well being than other gods.

"Lucky you. Many of us don't have that luxury," Ethan said as they continued their tour. "Whoever is mine hasn't claimed me yet.

They eventually ran into Percy and a white girl with blonde hair who was showing him around by the bathrooms. "Uh hey," the girl said. "You're the one who was claimed by that minor goddess Hecate right?"

"Alabaster," he said as politely as he could.

The girl nodded. "Annabeth daughter of Athena." She then turned to Ethan and awkwardly avoided his gaze. "Um I'm sorry what was your name."

"Ethan Nakamura," Ethan said coolly.

"Do you guys have cabins?" Percy asked curiously.

Annabeth shook her head. "Minor gods don't get cabins, they'll stay in the Hermes Cabin with you."

"Oh," Percy said awkwardly. "Why?"

"Yeah why?" he asked folding his arms. "Is my mother not good enough to have one?"

Annabeth rolled her eyes. "Uh its just how the camp was designed. Only the major Olympians have Cabins."

Percy frowned. "But that's not fair. Shouldn't all the gods have a cabin?"

Annabeth's brow twitched. "Well its how things are."

The way she said it was a bit condescending as if his mother were some after thought. Is that what she is with these people? Just a minor goddess not even worthy of the attention of the Olympians?

"What do we have here," said a large white girl and her pack of friends.

"Not now Clarisse they are new," Annabeth said.

Clarisse snorted. "Are they even claimed yet?"

"I am," he said stepping forward.

"Calm down I wouldn't mess with her," Ethan warned.

He smiled at him. "Don't worry I got this." Despite his age he knew how to deal with those stronger than him.

Clarisse focused her gaze on him. "Oh yeah whose your parent? Mine is Ares the god of War."

"That explains the bad odor," Percy said folding his arms.

"My mother his Hecate," he said proudly.

"Hecate? Whose that?" Clarisse laughed along with her friends. "Some minor goddess?"

He stepped up next to Percy his blood boiling. "Ventus!"

Clarisse and her friends were knocked down by a gust of wind as Percy, Annabeth, and Ethan stared at him in shock.

"Well you pushed the smell away," Percy said.

He shrugged. "At least I didn't turn her into a pig." That was a favorite spell of Lou and his older sister Circe.

"You'll pay for that," Clarisse spat. "Girls take care of this freckled face loser, I'll take this smart ass down."

He cracked his knuckles and muttered a few enhancements. The girls came at him as Clarisse dragged Percy into the bathroom. His fist flew with precision as he knocked down each of the girls. "Flectere Artus!"

A series of cracks came from the girls as they screamed loudly, they fell to the ground their joints twisted unnaturally just as a torrent of water doused the area soaking him and everyone else.

Clarisse was thrown out as Percy walked out dry as day. He muttered an incantation and the water fell off him, Annabeth, and Ethan.

"You'll pay for this," Clarisse said as she went to her friends who were writhing on the ground. She looked up at him with condescending anger. "Your dirty tricks don't belong here, I can see why your mother doesn't have a cabin or a throne. Such a goddess who resorts to cheap tricks doesn't deserve recognition."

He clenched his fists. "Templum Incendere!"

The others looked at him as if expecting something, Annabeth noticed the fire first. "Oh gods Clarisse your cabin!"

They all turned and saw the Ares Cabin burning with flames with people running out of it screaming "I'd hurry up and put it out or you won't have a cabin either," he said with a malicious grin.

"Speak shit about my mom and you'll see what happens when I'm really angry," he said reaching into his pocket and gripping his cards.

Clarisse took a step forward. "Why you piece of-"

"Crucio!" The daughter of Ares screamed and fell to the ground writhing in pain.

"Had enough?"

Clarisse glared at him and Percy. "This isn't over." Her body shook as she got up and quickly helped her friends leave.

Annabeth came up to them and looked them both over. "Well I want you both with me for capture the flag."
