The Help Desk forum said that this is a known issue and should clear up in 24 hours. I did let them know however that it's been longer than 24 hours for this story and it's still acting silly. To all of those who can see this story, I hope you like it. I can't see your reviews, so if there's something you think I need to know send me a PM.
Chapter Three
The guards were very hesitant to let me into the courtyard where all of the inmates were having outdoor rec time. But I lied and told them it was a medical emergency, so they reluctantly walked me out to the court. I walked straight to the basketball court where the group of men were playing.
I knew Edward always played basketball during his rec time. He had a very specific schedule that I somehow memorized. In the mornings four hours before breakfast, he lifted weights then during the outdoor rec time he played basketball with the inmates he was closest to. The only time basketball ever changed was Tuesday, which he had to attend some sort of course that was supposed to help him make better choices. I thought it was sweet when I first heard about it, but then Gerry explained that he was only taking the course so he could get out sooner.
"Hey!" I hollered to get Edward's attention.
He stopped, mid-shot to look at me. He smiled and tossed the ball for the other inmates to grab before sauntering over to me.
"Did you get the flowers I sent?" He asked, panting slightly, his grey wife-beater covered in sweat and clinging to his muscular body. If I weren't so furious, I'd think it was pretty hot. Especially since I could see just a bit of a colorful tattoo on his chest and one peeking over his shoulder. Huh, I wonder what his tattoos looked like.
"I did," I snapped before grabbing his injured hand. "I came to tell you that sending me those were completely inappropriate. And that sending someone to walk me home in the mornings and evenings is not okay!"
"I wasn't sure what kind of flowers you liked, so I had them just throw a bunch of random ones in there," He smiled as I rubbed ointment on the stitches. "And Jasper's cool. A bit of a pain in the ass, but he'll keep you safe. I trust him."
"That's not the point," I hissed. "You shouldn't be doing any of that. It's not okay! I'm fixing your hand and after that I do not want you bothering me anymore, understood?"
His smile widened and he licked his lower lip. "You came out here to tell me not to bother you anymore? Why not send a request to the warden not to see me? He takes those very seriously."
I blushed and stuttered a bit, "I have to clean your injury too! I might as well do both while I'm out here."
"I see. And did you check the reports when you got here?"
My blush deepened. Crap. Okay. How the hell did he know about the reports?
"N-no—,"
"Cause if you checked them, you would've seen that Gerry already tended to my injury less than an hour ago, so you really didn't need to come out here and do anything else."
My eyes looked everywhere but his. "T-that's not—,"
"I think you saw the report. It's the first thing you see when you log onto your computer. And I also asked Dr. Snow to leave you a note, so you didn't have to see me again. But here you are."
I slapped his hand back down and turned to walk away. By this point, all of the other inmates had stopped what they were doing to listen to us.
"I'll see you later then, Nurse Swan." Edward called out.
I huffed and tried my hardest to hide my blush as I walked back into the prison. I was so angry he knew about that. And embarrassed. How did he know about the reporting, he wasn't a nurse. Ugh. This was all so frustrating! Damn him!
Two Hours Later
"Are you alright Miss Swan?" Gerry asked.
I turned around in the swivel chair. "Yeah, I'm okay. Why?"
"Well, you're tapping that keyboard pretty hard." He chuckled. "It sounds like you're about to break it."
"Oh, sorry," I blushed. "Just a rough morning is all. Nothing a little hot tea can't fix. Can I get you some coffee?"
"You're a doll," He smiled as he handed me his thermos. "Black please."
"I know," I smiled as I walked off to the breakroom.
As I got closer to the breakroom, I could hear a very familiar voice. I paused, wondering if I should just go back to the infirmary. However, it was a very, very long walk back to the infirmary from the breakroom.
I took a deep breath and walked in, holding my head up high. I walked straight to the coffee machine without looking over at Mr. Cullen.
I waited for him to say something to me, but he continued his conversation with the corrections officer. I kept discreetly glancing over at him. He was leaning against the table, highly invested in what the guard was saying.
First I filled Gerry's thermos up. It took a little while; the pot was coming out very slowly. Then I put my teabag into my cup and started the Kerig.
When the Kerig started to finally boil, I took the opportunity to take a slightly longer, yet still discreet look at Edward.
However, I must not have been discreet enough because when I looked over at him, he immediately met my gaze. I blushed and quickly looked away.
"Is there something I could help you with, Nurse Swan? You keep looking over at me." Edward said, the corners of his mouth turned upward.
I blushed. "I was just checking out your hand. Doing my job without having to touch you."
His grin widened. "If you wanted to check me out Nurse Swan all you had to do was ask."
I rolled my eyes as he walked over to me and extended his hand. I sighed sharply before turned to examine his hand. That's all I really wanted to do. I mean, I was a nurse, I healed people and even though Edward was a criminal, he was still a person.
As I unwrapped his hand, I couldn't help but realize how much he loomed over me. He was so damn tall. And wide. I guess spending all morning working out did that to a person. His added width made him seem even more intimidating.
"Hm, it looks good," I nodded as I looked up at him.
His eyes were hooded and even though he was still smiling, it seemed as though the smile had softened. I stared back at him for a moment.
"Alright Mr. Cullen that's enough," I said as I pushed away from him and turned back to the Kerig.
"What exactly am I doing, nurse Swan?"
"I—," I was at a loss for words. What was he doing? Why did I feel so flustered?
"Your tea's done," He said as he stepped away.
I looked over and swallowed the lump that was in my throat. I turned away from him and grabbed my tea, then started heading for the door.
"Goodbye Nurse Swan," Edward called as I left.
I rolled my eyes as I walked back to the infirmary.
When I got back to the infirmary, there was an inmate sitting on the bed waiting. Gerry had his back turned as he worked on the computer. The PO was standing in the doorway, playing on his phone, which wasn't unusual for this particular PO.
"What's going on with him, Gerry?" I asked.
"Stomachache. He's been complaining about it all night. I'm not sure if it's his appendix, he's not showing the typical signs, but you never know."
"Do you mind if I examine him, Gerry?" I asked, loving to have all of the experience I could get.
Gerry looked over his shoulder and gave me a teasing look. "Don't trust me, huh?"
I gave him a bashful look as I walked to the bed where the inmate was sitting. I took out my thermometer.
"Can I take you temperature?" I asked the inmate. "And you might want to lay down. It'll help you feel better."
The inmate just grunted as he turned his head towards me. He opened his mouth so I could take his temperature. He looked a little flushed, but otherwise, didn't seem to be in too much pain.
"Huh, your temperature is normal." I said. "Where it hurting?"
"Right here," He pointed at his lower abdomen.
"Okay, lay down and I'm just going to press lightly.
"It hurts to lay down, c-can you help me?" He asked.
"Of course," I said as I placed my hand on his back to help steady him.
As I helped him lay down, he fell forward. When he fell forward, it seemed as though he were trying to grab anything to catch himself. Unfortunately, he grabbed full handfuls of my breasts to steady himself.
I blushed as I got him settled on the bed, ignoring the fact that I had just been accidentally groped. "Are you alright?" I asked, shaking off the uncomfortableness.
"Yeah," He said breathlessly, "Sorry about that."
"It's okay, just be careful when you're laying down, you don't want to—,"
The man groaned and rolled over, this time when he tried to catch himself, he grabbed onto my upper thigh to steady himself. My blush deepened. I was grateful he hadn't touched my private area, but he came damn near close.
"Mr. Jones I saw that!" Gerry yelled, storming into the room. "You're not sick. Oliver, take him out of here right this instant!"
"But Doc, I'm really sick—," The inmate groaned dramatically.
"You're a liar. Get out. I will be reporting this to the warden. I will make sure you spend at least a week in isolation! You do not grab Miss Swan like that for any reason!"
As the PO grabbed Mr. Jones, his condition suddenly seemed to get better. He stood upright and was walking normally, as if he weren't sick.
"So, he wasn't really sick?" I asked once Mr. Jones, and the PO were gone.
"No, he wasn't. He is notorious for faking illnesses and injuries. I'm sorry he did that to you. It's unacceptable. Are you alright?"
"Yeah, just a little shocked to be honest with you." I said as I shuddered. "I thought he was really sick."
"Don't sweat it. Some of these inmates are very sneaky. If you want to take a break, you can."
"I'll be fine." I said as I sat down in my seat.
I would be fine, but I am extremely uncomfortable now. I still felt his hands on me which was upsetting. I wished I could leave and take a long, hot shower.
Seven Hours Later
As expected, Jasper was waiting for me when I walked out of the jail. He was leaning against a large black SUV. I sighed and walked over to him.
"Look," I said, "My feet are killing me and I'm exhausted. How long will it take us to get back to my apartment?"
"About twenty minutes faster than subway," He said. "You want a ride?"
"Yes please," I sighed in relief. "You're going to take me straight home, right?"
"Straight home," He nodded as he opened the backseat door.
I slid into the car and placed my bag beside me. It felt nice to be off my feet. I would kill for a foot massage but being off my feet was almost as nice.
"Long day?" Jasper asked as he got into the front seat.
"Yeah," I said as I tipped my head back and closed my eyes. "If you don't mind, I'm not feeling very talkative."
"Of course." He said, as he turned the music up a little louder, but kept it at a comfortable volume.
I guess I must've drifted off because I was startled awake by Jasper waking me. My heart started beating quickly as I realized how bad this situation could've been. I didn't know Jasper. He could've raped me, or god knows what else.
"You want me to take your bag upstairs for you?" He asked as he held the door open.
"No I'm okay," I said. "Thank you for the ride. Do you want me to give you some gas money?"
"No," He laughed. "Don't worry about that. You want a ride in the morning?"
"Actually I'll be working tomorrow night." I said. "I'll be going in at seven, my shift starts at eight."
"Oh dang, that sucks," He said. "I'll still drive you. Mrs. Cullen should be done with her family dinner by then. I'll have to drive her to the jail too."
"Mrs. Cullen?" I said, feeling an uncomfortable knot twist up in my stomach. I didn't know Edward was married. There was nothing in his file about it. Not that I had been looking. Or that it really mattered.
"Yeah, she's Edward's mom. She's a real nice lady, you'll like her. And she'll have a boatload of food with her, so you'll probably get a good meal out of it."
"If you need to drive her, please don't worry about picking me up. I can take the subway."
"No it's okay. We're all going to the same place. I'll still pick you up."
I hadn't realized that Jasper had walked me all the way up to my apartment. He had also carried my bag for me. I just got caught up in our conversation. Well, it was too late now. He knew exactly which apartment was mine.
"Thanks for bringing my bag up." I said as I pulled my keys out. "I didn't even realize you were walking with me."
He laughed. "You must be really out of it."
"Yeah, it was a crazy day," I yawned. "See you tomorrow Jasper."
"See you later, Bella," He said as he turned and started walking down the hall.
As soon as I walked into my apartment, I kicked my shoes off and took all of my clothes off. I was done with today. I needed a hot shower and sleep.
