Chapter 24: Search For Tsunade

In the heart of Konoha's T&I (Torture and Interrogation) division, the dimly lit room was filled with an oppressive tension. The walls, lined with instruments of torture and interrogation, seemed to close in on the young boy sitting cross-legged on the floor. His name was Son Goku, and despite the grim setting, he faced his interrogators with an unyielding smile.

Inoichi Yamanaka, the head of the Yamanaka clan, stepped forward, his face stern and eyes piercing. "Son Goku, we need to understand everything that transpired. Start with Orochimaru's abilities and Hinata's absence."

Goku scratched his head, thinking back. "Well, Orochimaru had some weird jutsus. I fought him back in the Forest of Death because he wanted to test me and see what I could do. And with Hinata I had to protect her from Tao Pai-Pai because she was exhausted. The Red Ribbon Army was after her for some reason, but I don't know why. I just reacted and tried to help."

Inoichi nodded, signaling for a more direct approach. "And the legend of the Dragon Balls? What are they? And who are you really, and where do you actually come from?"

Goku's smile widened. "Oh, the Dragon Balls! They're these magical orbs that can grant any wish when gathered. I don't know where I'm from or who I am yet, but one day I plan on finding out the truth."

The room fell silent as Inoichi prepared to use his Shintenshin no Jutsu to verify Goku's claims. He focused his chakra and initiated the jutsu, but to his and everyone's astonishment, the technique was blocked.

Inoichi stumbled back, his face etched with confusion.

"I... I don't know why that happened," Goku said, genuinely puzzled. "I'm not hiding anything."

Anko Mitarashi, the snake kunoichi, stepped forward with a wicked grin. "Let's see if my snakes can find the truth." She summoned her snakes, which slithered towards Goku, their fangs ready to bite.

The snakes latched onto Goku, but their teeth shattered against his skin. Anko's eyes widened in disbelief as the snakes attempted to constrict Goku, only to find their efforts futile against his super-durable body.

Ibiki Morino, the head of the T&I division, watched closely. "He's invulnerable to our techniques," he muttered. "We can't get through to him."

Despite Goku's insistence on his ignorance, the heightened stress levels and recent turmoil involving the Red Ribbon Army and Orochimaru's near god-like ascension made it difficult for anyone to believe him. The blame for their current predicament seemed to naturally fall on him.

Ibiki stepped forward, his face grim. He towered over Goku, his presence imposing. "Son Goku," he began, his voice low and menacing, "you need to understand the gravity of the situation you're in. Konoha is on the brink of chaos, and you're at the center of it. If you don't start giving us the answers we need, your situation will become very unpleasant."

Goku looked up at Ibiki, his expression still calm. "I really don't know anything more than what I've told you. I'm not here to cause trouble."

Ibiki's eyes narrowed. "Perhaps you don't understand who you're dealing with." He leaned in closer, his breath hot against Goku's face. "I've broken people far tougher than you. Your mind is like an open book to me, and I will find the truth, one way or another."

Goku met Ibiki's gaze, unflinching. "I'm not afraid of you," he said simply. "And I'm not hiding anything."

Ibiki scowled, his frustration mounting. "You think this is a game? We have ways of making you talk." He gestured to the various instruments of torture around the room. "These are not just for show."

Goku's smile faded slightly, replaced by a look of determination. "I understand you're doing your job, but I'm telling you the truth. Torturing me won't change that."

Ibiki, growing more agitated, decided to try a different approach. He focused his chakra, attempting to manipulate Goku's mind. He reached out with his chakra, trying to invade Goku's thoughts and bend his will.

But as he delved deeper, he hit a barrier. Goku's mind was like a fortress, impenetrable and fortified by his Ki. Ibiki gritted his teeth, pushing harder, but it was no use. He was met with an overwhelming force that repelled his efforts.

Goku watched Ibiki's struggle with mild curiosity. "Is this supposed to hurt?" he asked, genuinely confused.

Ibiki, panting from the exertion, stepped back, sweat dripping from his brow. "How... how is this possible?" he muttered to himself.

Anko, observing the exchange, crossed her arms. "Seems like your usual tricks aren't working, Ibiki."

Ibiki shot her a glare before turning back to Goku. "Fine. You want to play it that way? We'll see how long you can hold out."

Despite Goku's insistence on his ignorance, the heightened stress levels and recent turmoil involving the Red Ribbon Army and Orochimaru's near god-like ascension made it difficult for anyone to believe him. The blame for their current predicament seemed to naturally fall on him.

"I understand why you're upset," Goku said, his voice sincere. "I don't have all the answers, but I'm telling the truth. What can I do to prove it?"

Ibiki stepped forward, his face grim. "We'll decide once a new Hokage is instated. Until then, you're staying here."

They left Goku in his cell without food or water, testing his physical limits. Goku, aware of their intentions, chose to spend his time working out and sparring with the air, whistling to himself. He knew he could escape at any moment but decided to bide his time, respecting their authority despite the harsh treatment.

Konoha was in a state of flux, the tension palpable in every corner. Amidst this uncertainty, Jiraiya sought out Naruto, knowing that their village needed a new Hokage to stabilize the chaos. He found the young shinobi training tirelessly.

"Naruto," Jiraiya called out, interrupting Naruto's intense training session. "We need to talk."

Naruto turned, wiping sweat from his brow. "What's up, Ero-Sennin?"

Jiraiya ignored the nickname, his expression serious. "We're going to find Tsunade. She's the only one who can become the Fifth Hokage and restore some order to the village. I need you to come with me."

Before Naruto could respond, Sakura appeared because the plot demanded it, having overheard their conversation. "Jiraiya-sama, please let me come too. I want to become more useful. I want to learn from you..."

And then she looked at her teammate and smiled jovially. "And you too, Naruto."

Naruto, seeing an opportunity, chimed in. "Yeah, why not bring the whole team? We can all learn and be safer together!"

Jiraiya shook his head. "This is not a babysitting mission. Naruto is only coming for safety reasons. Konoha is no longer a safe haven, especially for him."

Sakura's eyes widened as she realized the gravity of Naruto's situation. As a Jinchuriki, Naruto was a crucial asset in the context of a looming war.

Her respect for him grew as she understood the immense pressure he bore.

Naruto nodded, understanding the urgency in Jiraiya's voice. "Alright, Ero-Sennin. Let's go. She's coming along, though."

The Sannin sighed, conceding to the notion of babysitting two genin instead of one. "Fine! But that's it."

The blonde flashed him a cheeky grin and a thumbs up, to which Sakura giggled.

As the three of them prepared to leave Konoha, the rosette found herself lost in thought.

She reflected on Naruto's importance to the village and her own desire to support him. The journey ahead was fraught with danger, but despite it she was...excited to embrace the challenge with her teammates.

Speaking of which, as they traveled the road, Sakura thought about Sasuke and Haku, who had begun to form a bond.

She realized that her heart no longer solely belonged to Sasuke. She used to worship his cool mystique and gorgeous face, but after the second exam she could no longer allow herself to be deluded by own her emotions and feelings...

- Flashback no Jutsu -

"Katon: Goukakyu no Jutsu."

"Futon: Daitoppa!"

A powerful stream of wind blasted through the interior of the fireball, creating a man-sized hole while simultaneously expanding the flame from the outside. Naruto jumped straight through it and locked eyes with the Uchiha.

Crimson vs Blood.

"If this is how it's gonna be," Naruto started, getting into a taijutsu stance. "Then I'll beat the sense back into you."

Growling, Sasuke grabbed a kunai and charged at Naruto with murderous intent. Just as Naruto prepares to counter whatever the Uchiha had in store, they halted as the female member of Team Seven stood in front of the blonde with arms up to her side.

"Please Sasuke-kun," Sakura pleaded, stepping closer to the Sasuke.

It killed her to see the two most important male figures in her life go at each other in such a manner.

"Stop this… can't you see it's wrong?"

Sasuke's blood red Sharingan eyes stared into Sakura's jade.

Lowering his kunai he trotted up to the rosette. Stopping directly in front of her, everything stops. And suddenly...

CLINKKK!

Sasuke hit Sakura with the blunt end of his kunai.

The rosette flew a few feet sideways and landed on her right side harshly.

Sasuke glared down at Sakura who held her bruised cheek, wincing from the pain as tears rolled from her eyes.

"And you…You're just a pathetic civilian born with zero talent. Annoying too, you think I'd want to restore my clan with someone as weak as you?!"

His words stabbed deeper than any kunai.

Before he could continue however, a powerful fist slammed into his face with an untraceable speed, sending the out of character Uchiha into a rock formation. The force of said strike completely decimated the rocks with a resounding crash.

Standing defensively in front of the rosette was Naruto with his bangs covering his eyes.

Intense killer intent covered the area as more potent crimson chakra slowly covered his body. Naruto slowly shifted into an all fours position as the red chakra solidified in the shape of a fox with a single tail. The blonde's canines were elongated with his whisker marks, his hair becoming even wilder in appearance.

"I don't care if you attack me, but don't you EVER hit Sakura-chan like that again!"

- Present no Jutsu -

After witnessing Sasuke assault her physically and verbally under the influence of Orochimaru, she began to see Naruto in a new light.

He was growing before her very eyes, his determination and reliability shining through the madness that was their careers.

How did he do it so seamlessly? Where did his strength come from? Why wasn't Sasuke anymore close to as open as Naruto?

Did Sasuke not believe she could understand him?

One evening, as they sat around a campfire, Sakura turned to Naruto. "Hey Naruto, can we talk?"

Naruto looked up from his bowl of instant ramen. "Hai, Sakura-chan. What's on your mind?"

She hesitated for a moment before speaking. "I've been thinking a lot about responsibilities, our training goals, and everything that's happening in the village. What do you think about Goku's return? And Orochimaru… the looming war? How do you feel?"

Naruto's face grew serious. "It's all pretty crazy if you ask me. Goku is probably still a good guy at heart, but the village grows more and more scared of him as information comes out. Orochimaru is still out there, causing trouble. And I don't know anyone who can beat him right now! He's that strong."

A cold chill ran through both of their spines at that confession.

"And with the war that's probably coming... it's a lot to handle."

Sakura nodded, feeling the weight of his words. "You always seem so passionate and positive, despite everything. How do you do it?"

Naruto's gaze softened. "Hearing about how the old man—the Third Hokage—was killed so easily almost crushed my dream. But then I remembered why I started this journey. I want to become Hokage and protect everyone. I can't give up now."

Sakura reached out and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. "You're not alone, Naruto. I want to see you become Hokage too."

"You do?" Naruto had to reconfirm what he was hearing. It was too good to be true in a world full of nothing good at all. "Seriously?"

"Believe it," was the clever response, eliciting a snicker from the blonde.

They both smiled at each other, continuing the conversation from there.

The two talked late into the night, discussing their hopes and fears. They speculated about the future of Team Seven, who might be promoted to Chunin, and how they could grow stronger together and individually.

As they continued their journey, they encountered various challenges that tested their resolve. Bandits ambushed them on a mountain pass, but Naruto and Sakura fought them off with a synergy that showed how much they had grown together. Jiraiya watched them with a critical eye, noting their improvement and teamwork.

And then he started to teach two different topics revolving around the same jutsu: the Rasengan. For Naruto, the goal was to further develop his skill with the wind chakra nature and combine it with his father's original jutsu for devastating effect. For Sakura, the prerogative was to see if she had the talent to learn the basics behind the Rasengan despite her civilian background and label as a support type kunoichi.

Turns out she was way more talented than Naruto due to her perfect chakra control. Popping the water balloon and the rubber ball did not take very long whatsoever. Her issue however, was maintaining the potency behind the jutsu itself.

Could she effectively create a spiraling sphere of chakra that would have the stamina and the power to be useful in battle?

So far the answer was a resounding no. Despite this...

"You're getting stronger, both of you," Jiraiya remarked one evening as they set up camp. "But remember, strength isn't just about power. It's about the will to protect those you care about."

Naruto and Sakura nodded, absorbing his words. They kept it in mind as the days slowly creeped along.

One afternoon, as they walked through a dense forest, Naruto turned to Sakura. "Sakura-chan, I've been meaning to ask you... how do you feel about everything? About Sasuke, Haku, and our team?"

Sakura sighed, her expression contemplative. "It's complicated. I used to think Sasuke-kun was everything. But now, seeing him with Haku, I've realized that my feelings were less about him as a person and more about the idea of him. And you baka... you've become someone I can rely on. You've always been there for me, even when I didn't deserve it."

Naruto's heart skipped a beat. He had always admired Sakura for her beauty and her kind heart, but hearing her words gave him hope. "Sakura-chan, I've always believed in you from day one. And I'll keep protecting you, no matter what."

Sakura smiled, a warmth spreading through her chest. "Arigato Naruto. That means a lot to me."

As they traveled, they continued to share their thoughts and dreams. Sakura revealed her desire to become a medical ninja, inspired by Tsunade's legendary skills. Naruto shared his determination to become Hokage, not just for himself, but for everyone who believed in him.

One evening, as they rested by a river, Jiraiya approached them with a serious expression. "We've received information about Tsunade's whereabouts. She's been seen in a nearby town. We'll head there tomorrow."

Naruto and Sakura nodded.

The atmosphere in Konoha was tense, the air thick with anticipation and unease. The village was still reeling from the recent events, and amidst this chaos, Haku received an urgent summons to the Hokage's office. Her heart pounded as she approached, knowing that a new mission awaited her.

Danzo, the acting Hokage, sat behind the desk, his expression inscrutable. "Haku," he began, his voice steady and cold. "We have a delicate situation that requires your unique skills."

Haku stood at attention, her face a mask of calm. "What is the mission, Danzo-sama?"

"Son Goku," Danzo said, his eyes narrowing slightly. "His allegiance to Konoha is uncertain. If he does not show loyalty, your mission is to eliminate him."

Haku felt a chill run down her spine, but she maintained her composure. She had no significant attachment to Goku, and her loyalty to Konoha was unwavering. "Understood, Danzo-sama. I will handle it."

Danzo nodded, dismissing her with a wave. "Do not fail."

In the next day, the sun hung high in the sky, casting a warm glow over the clearing where Naruto and Sakura had set up their training area. Jiraiya had left them to their own devices, having wandered off to the hot springs, and the two young shinobi were determined to make the most of their time.

Naruto, brimming with energy, began working on adding wind release to his Rasengan. He focused intensely, molding his chakra and trying to incorporate the wind element. Sakura, on the other hand, was dedicated to mastering the third stage of the Rasengan, a technique she had been practicing diligently under Jiraiya and Naruto's guidance.

"Naruto, you're not forming the wind chakra properly," Sakura pointed out, her voice filled with a mix of encouragement and critique. "Try visualizing the wind swirling around the Rasengan, not just within it."

The blonde nodded, his cerulean eyes sparkling with determination. "Got it, Sakura-chan. And you, remember to keep your chakra flow steady. The third stage requires precise control of a lotta chakra."

They continued their training, each offering tips and encouragement to the other. The bond between them grew stronger with every shared struggle and triumph. Naruto's Rasengan began to show signs of the wind element, the edges flickering with sharp currents, while Sakura's control over her Rasengan became more refined and stable.

"Yes! We're getting there!" Naruto exclaimed, his excitement contagious.

Sakura smiled, her heart swelling with pride and affection. "You're amazing Naruto. Keep it up!"

After hours of intense training, they decided to take a break. Panting and sweating, they sat under a large tree, catching their breath.

"Jiraiya-sama is probably enjoying himself at the hot springs," Sakura mused, wiping her brow. "Maybe we should join him and relax a bit."

Naruto's eyes lit up at the suggestion. After all the wars, battles, training, and deaths that had dominated his recent year of life, hanging out with his crush in a fit of relaxation sounded too good to be true.

"Great idea, Sakura-chan! Let's go!"

They made their way to the hot springs, their spirits starving for a wind down. Upon arriving, they found Jiraiya lounging comfortably with binoculars and a notepad for his stories, a blissful expression on his face.

"Hey, Ero-Sennin! We're joining you!" Naruto called out, grinning widely.

Jiraiya opened one eye lazily and smirked. "Took you long enough. The water's perfect. Just stay away from me and my clients!"

Catching his drift, the blonde could only snicker while Sakura facepalmed in hilarious shame.

Men. Pigs. Definitely the same species.

That being said, Naruto and Sakura quickly changed and slipped into the hot springs. The warm water soothed their tired muscles, and they both let out pent up sighs of relief.

"This feels soooo amazing," Sakura said, leaning back and closing her eyes. "Ahhhh."

"Yeah, it's the best," Naruto agreed, floating on his back with a contented grin, looking at the rosette. "Ero-sennin is waaaay cooler than Kakashi-sensei."

The girl raised a brow at that. "Cooler is crazy, but more fun definitely. Kinda like you and Sasuke-kun."

"And which one," the blonde glanced over at his teammate. "Do you think is better? Should I become a bastard and be mysterious so you can like me?!"

Sakura couldn't help but laugh at Naruto's brash solutions. "Haha, no. As I get a little older the more fun the better. For sure."

"Hn," was the brooding response, which was met with more laughter. And then Naruto crossed his arms and pouted, mimicking his Uchiha teammates temperament not caring if it offended the girl near to him.

"I'm an avenger!" The blonde made his voice deep and edgy. "I will restore my clan! And kill a certain man...I'm so cool damnit. I'm an Uchiha, I always get what I want. Especially you, Sakura. Especially you."

For some strange reason, the rosette couldn't recall ever having this much fun before. It was hysterical.

It was surreal.

The real Naruto beyond the preconceived notions was a vibe.

They spent the next hour talking, laughing, and playing in the water. Naruto couldn't resist the urge to prank Sakura, splashing her with a sudden burst of water.

"Naruto!" Sakura squealed, retaliating with a playful punch to his shoulder. "You're still such a prankster!"

Naruto laughed, rubbing his shoulder. "You know you love it, Sakura-chan."

Sakura rolled her eyes but couldn't suppress a smile. "Maybe I do."

Their playful banter continued, the atmosphere light and carefree. The more time they spent together, the more Sakura found herself drawn to Naruto's infectious energy and unwavering spirit. She couldn't help but admire his resilience and optimism.

As the sun began to set, casting a golden hue over the hot springs, Naruto and Sakura found themselves sitting close together, their laughter subsiding into a comfortable silence. Sakura looked at Naruto, her heart skipping a beat as she got lost in his cerulean eyes. They were so full of life and determination, reflecting a boundless inner strength.

Naruto, in turn, found himself captivated by Sakura's ember eyes. They held a depth and warmth that drew him in, making him forget everything else. The world around them seemed to fade away as they leaned closer to each other, the distance between them shrinking.

"Sakura-chan..." Naruto whispered, his voice barely audible over the sound of the bubbling water.

"Naruto-kun..." Sakura replied softly, her gaze never leaving his.

They were so close now, their faces mere inches apart. Sakura's heart pounded in her chest, and she could feel Naruto's breath against her skin. For a moment, it felt like time had stopped, and they were the only two people in the world.

But just as their lips were about to meet, Sakura pulled back slightly, a conflicted look in her eyes. "Naruto, I... I still have feelings for Sasuke-kun. I can't do this, not yet."

Naruto's expression softened with understanding. "It's okay, Sakura-chan. I get it. We'll go as you go."

Sakura smiled, grateful for his patience and kindness. "Thank you, Naruto. You're always so understanding."

They settled back into the water, Sakura resting her head on Naruto's shoulder. He wrapped an arm around her, holding her close. The warmth of the water and the comfort of their embrace made them both feel safe and content.

"Sakura-chan," Naruto began, his voice gentle, "I believe in you. I know you can achieve anything you set your mind to."

Sakura's heart swelled with emotion. "And I believe in you, Naruto. You'll become Hokage one day, I know it."

They sat there, wrapped in each other's arms, as the sky darkened. In that moment, all their worries and fears seemed to melt away. They shared a moment of silent understanding, their bond growing stronger despite the unspoken words.

As the stars twinkled above and the gentle sound of the hot springs filled the air, Naruto and Sakura made a silent vow to support and protect one another, no matter what the future held.

In the warmth of the hot springs, they found solace and strength, knowing that their bond would carry them through the darkest of times.

And as they drifted into a peaceful sleep.

Meanwhile, in the confines of his cell, Goku remained his usual carefree self, completely unaware of the storm brewing around him. His calm was interrupted by the arrival of two unexpected visitors: Shikamaru and Ino.

"Goku," Shikamaru greeted, his tone casual but curious. "Mind if we join you for a bit?"

Goku's face lit up with his characteristic smile. "Sure, come on in!"

Shikamaru set up a Shogi board, his strategic mind already at work. Ino, on the other hand, observed Goku with a mixture of fascination and curiosity.

"You know, Goku," Shikamaru began as they started their game, "we're here to understand you better. What's your story?"

Goku scratched his head, thinking. "Well, the Third Hokage told me I came to Mount Paozu in a spaceship. I don't really know where I'm from or who I truly am. All I know is that I love to fight strong opponents. I consider myself a martial artist, not a shinobi."

Ino leaned forward, captivated by his honesty. "You're not from this world? That's incredible. And you don't have any memories of your origins?"

Goku shook his head. "Nope, not really. But it doesn't bother me. I'm happy as long as I can fight strong people and protect my friends."

Shikamaru moved a piece on the board, contemplating Goku's words. "You know, Goku, Konoha is in a tough spot right now. We need to know if we can trust you."

Goku's expression turned serious. "I understand. I want to help, but I won't lie. I'm not loyal to any village. I'm loyal to my friends and to doing what's right."

Ino couldn't help but smile. "You're honest and straightforward. I like that."

As the games continued, their conversation flowed naturally, touching on various topics. They talked about Gaara killing Choji, a painful memory that weighed heavily on Shikamaru and Ino.

"Choji was a good friend," Shikamaru said, his voice tinged with sorrow. "He didn't deserve what happened to him."

Goku's eyes softened with sympathy. "I'm sorry for your loss. Choji looked like he was an incredible person."

"He was," Ino added, her voice barely above a whisper. "But we have to move forward. To prevent something like that from happening again, I want to become really really strong, not just beautiful."

Shikamaru nodded. "Yeah, and I can't afford to be lazy anymore. I need to step up too."

Their bond deepened as they shared their memories and aspirations. Goku's genuine nature and unwavering positivity had a profound impact on both Shikamaru and Ino as they continued to mince words.

"You know," Shikamaru mused, "maybe we could form a new team. Ino-Shika-Go. What do you think, Ino?"

Ino smiled, feeling a renewed sense of energy at the idea. "I like the sound of that. Goku, would you want to join us?"

Goku grinned, his carefree nature shining through. "Sure! I'd love to be part of your team. Don't really know what that's like."

Ino felt a warmth in her chest as she looked at Goku, an undeniable attraction forming. "You know, Goku, you're really something. Cute and adorable, too."

Goku chuckled, scratching his head sheepishly. "Thanks, Ino. You're pretty amazing yourself."

Shikamaru rolled his eyes playfully. "Great, now we have to deal with you two flirting. Can we focus on the game?"

Ino laughed, nudging Shikamaru. "Lighten up, Shikamaru. You've already won the last seven in a row. It's good to have a little fun."

Goku's presence had a calming effect, lifting their spirits. They continued their conversation, discussing their goals and the challenges they faced.

"I want to become strong enough to protect my friends and my village," Ino said, determination in her eyes. "I don't want to be just a pretty face."

Shikamaru nodded. "And I need to find a way to contribute more. As troublesome as it is, too much is at stake."

Goku's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm. "I believe in you both. You both have the strength to achieve your goals."

Their bond deepened further as they shared their dreams and fears. Goku's sincerity and purity convinced Shikamaru and Ino of his good intentions.

"You know," Shikamaru said thoughtfully, "Ino-Shika-Cho might not be the combination for this generation. Ino-Shika-Go might actually pan out."

Ino grinned. "I like the sound of that. Goku, you're officially part of our team!"

"Officially?" The Nara interjected. "I still think he has to be approved, Ino."

"Booo, way to ruin the moment," the girl responded, pouting in a profoundly cute manner.

Goku's carefree nature radiated warmth as he laughed with the running gag. "Thanks, guys. More than happy to be part of the team!"

As they continued to play Shogi and talk, the trio developed a quick chemistry, bonding over their predicaments and aspirations. Goku's positive energy and honesty endeared him to Shikamaru and Ino, who found themselves more determined to support his case.

The session ended with Shikamaru and Ino feeling uplifted, their moods significantly brightened by Goku's presence. They knew they had found a valuable ally and a true friend.

As they left Goku's cell, Shikamaru turned to Ino. "We need to make sure the higher-ups understand Goku's value. He's honest and well-meaning."

Ino nodded. "Agreed. We'll speak to our fathers and try to make them see that Goku is someone we can trust, it's the least we can do."

Meanwhile, Haku prepared herself mentally for the mission ahead. She had accepted the task with a clear mind, knowing that her loyalty to Konoha came above all else. But as she walked through the village, she couldn't help but feel a pang of uncertainty.

She remembered Goku's carefree demeanor, his pure-hearted nature. She hoped that the mission would not come to the point of elimination, but she steeled herself for any eventuality.

In the Hokage office, Danzo watched her leave, his mind already calculating the next steps. He knew that Konoha's future depended on the actions of its shinobi, and he was willing to make any decision necessary to ensure its safety.

In the dimly lit gambling den, the smell of sake permeated the air, mingling with the sounds of clinking coins and murmured bets. Tsunade sat at a corner table, her eyes glazed over as she stared at her dwindling pile of chips. Shizune sat beside her, a worried look etched on her face as she glanced around the room.

"Tsunade-sama, we should go," Shizune urged softly. "It's not safe here."

There was an ominous feeling in the air...

Tsunade waved her off, her speech slightly slurred. "Relax, Shizune. One more game. I can feel my luck turning."

Before Shizune could protest further, the door to the den creaked open, and two figures stepped inside. Orochimaru and Kabuto, their presence immediately drawing the attention of the patrons.

The room fell silent, the air thick with tension.

"Tsunade," Orochimaru said, his voice dripping with false warmth. "It's been a long time."

Tsunade's eyes narrowed as she looked up, recognition dawning on her. "Orochimaru. What do you want?"

Orochimaru approached the table, his serpentine eyes glinting with amusement. "Is that any way to greet an old friend? I'm here to ask for a favor."

Shizune stood up, positioning herself protectively in front of Tsunade. "Leave us alone, Orochimaru. We have nothing to say to you."

Kabuto smirked, adjusting his glasses. "Now, now, there's no need for hostility. We just want to talk."

Tsunade's gaze hardened. "Talk? About what?"

Orochimaru leaned in, his smile widening. "I need your help, Tsunade. I'm in need of healing. You are the only one who can perform the procedure I require."

Tsunade laughed bitterly. "You expect me to help you? After everything you've done?"

Orochimaru's expression turned cold. "You don't have a choice."

Before anyone could react, Orochimaru moved with lightning speed, sinking his fangs into Shizune's neck.

SNAAAAAPPPP!

The blonde woman gasped, her eyes wide with shock as he shattered her neck with a brutal twist, killing her instantly. Blood sprayed across the table, and Tsunade's world seemed to stop.

"No!" Tsunade screamed, her heart breaking as she saw the blood splatter and more importantly watched her pupil collapse to the ground, lifeless.

Taking advantage of her stupor, Orochimaru promptly grabbed Tsunade by the throat, lifting her effortlessly. "Heal me, Tsunade, or you'll join her."

The female Sannin tried to use her renowned strength to pull the snake's arm off her esophagus, but it...didn't budge him at all?

With a surge of power, Orochimaru flew up into the stratosphere with his purple aura, the air growing thin and cold as they ascended. Tsunade struggled against his grip, her fear and anger mingling with the high altitude.

WHOOOOOSH!

"As you can see, Tsunade, I have surpassed mortality," Orochimaru hissed. "I can either make your death slow and painful. Or you heal me, and I'll let you live."

Tsunade's tears froze on her cheeks as she finally relented. "Fine. I'll do it. Just let me down."

Orochimaru descended rapidly without regard for Tsunade's wellbeing, smashing into a secluded clearing outside the town. The woman coughed up a storm.

And then she locked eyes with her former teammate, seeing immediate death in them if she did not comply in short order.

Tsunade's hands began to glow with chakra as she began the healing process, her heart heavy with the loss of Shizune. She was completely and utterly helpless against his might, how did this happen?

Orochimaru's injuries mended, his body rejuvenating under her expert touch. A healing seal formed, allowing him to regenerate for a limited period of time, long enough to find a new vessel when the time came.

As the procedure finished, Orochimaru's lips curled into a satisfied smile. "Thank you, Tsunade."

Sensing a spike in killer intent, the woman only had enough time to form a cross-guard as...

BOOOOM!

With a swift kick, the serpent sent the slug crashing through the air, her body slamming into the wall of a nearby bar. The impact shattered the wall, sending debris flying and patrons scrambling.

Naruto, Sakura, and Jiraiya were on the patrol in the town, following leads on Tsunade's whereabouts, when they heard the commotion. They rushed towards the source of the noise, their hearts pounding with anticipation and dread.

As they entered the bar, they saw a big breasted woman lying amidst the wreckage, her body bruised and battered.

The two genin's eyes widened in shock.

"Is that... Tsunade-sama?" Sakura whispered, her voice filled with disbelief.

Naruto nodded, his fists clenching. "It has to be."

Jiraiya hurried to Tsunade's side, his face etched with concern. "Tsunade! Are you alright?"

The woman groaned, trying to push herself up. "Jiraiya... what are you doing here?"

Before he could answer, a chilling laugh echoed through the bar.

"Kukukukuku..."

Orochimaru descended gracefully, landing amidst the rubble, his eyes gleaming with sadistic glee.

"Well, well," he drawled. "What a delightful reunion."

Naruto's eyes blazed with fury. "Orochimaru-teme! What did you do to her?!"

Orochimaru's smile widened. "Just a little persuasion, Naruto. Nothing to worry about."

Jiraiya stood, positioning himself between Orochimaru and the others. "You've gone too far this time, Orochimaru. As usual. How inhumane can you become?"

Orochimaru laughed, the sound devoid of any warmth. "And so what if I am inhuman? Just what are you going to do about it, Jiraiya? You always were the weakest of us."

With a sudden movement, the serpent kneed the toad in the gut, the force of the blow sending him flying across the room. Jiraiya also crashed into the bar, his body crumpling as he struggled to breathe.

"Ero-sennin!" Naruto shouted, rushing to his side.

Orochimaru watched with a twisted grin. "You see, Naruto, the gap between us is insurmountable. You can't hope to defeat me."

Tsunade, still on the ground, looked up at Orochimaru with a mix of hatred and sorrow. "You monster! You've taken everything I had left from me!"

The snake tilted his head, feigning innocence. "Have I? Or have I simply given you a new purpose?"

Naruto's anger boiled over, his chakra flaring as he faced Orochimaru, eyes becoming red with black slits. "I'll never forgive you for this! Or for jiji!"

Sakura stood beside Naruto, her resolve hardening. "One day it'll be your turn!"

Orochimaru laughed again, the sound grating on their nerves. "You children are amusing. But this game is over for now. Next time will be the last."

With that, the Sannin turned and leaped into the air, disappearing into the night sky.

Kabuto had long vanished, as he's not particularly relevant to the plot or the author at this moment in time. He'd probably have to get killed by somebody to receive more word time.

The bar fell silent, the only sounds the ragged breathing of the injured and the distant murmur of the town.

Jiraiya coughed, wincing as he tried to stand. "W-We need to get out of h-here and back to Konoha. Now."

Naruto and Sakura helped Jiraiya to his feet, their minds racing with the implications of what had just happened. They had finally found Tsunade, but at what cost? After what just transpired, why the hell should she want to be the Hokage?

Why would anyone take the title at this point?

As they made their way out of the bar, Tsunade's eyes met Naruto's. There was a depth of pain and loss there that he couldn't fully comprehend, but he knew one thing: all of them had to get stronger. Much much stronger. Somehow.

The night had settled over the safehouse, the shadows dancing eerily against the walls as Tsunade, Jiraiya, Naruto, and Sakura gathered around a dimly lit table. The atmosphere was heavy with the weight of the recent events. Tsunade's eyes were hollow, the grief over Shizune's death consuming her.

Jiraiya, still recovering from the brutal blow Orochimaru had dealt him, sat slumped in a chair, his face contorted in pain. Tsunade's hands glowed with a soft, green light as she worked on healing his injuries. Her touch was expert and gentle, but her mind was elsewhere.

"I can't believe he's gotten so strong," Tsunade muttered, her voice barely above a whisper. "Orochimaru... he was always powerful, but this... this is different."

Naruto clenched his fists, his eyes trembling. "He invaded Konoha during the Chunin exams and killed Jiji. Everyone said he did it with ease!"

Tsunade's expression darkened. "The Sandaime... my sensei. Another casualty of that accursed title."

Sakura, standing beside Naruto, looked at Tsunade with a mixture of awe and determination. "Tsunade-sama, the legends say you're an incredible medical specialist. I would love to learn from you if I can."

Tsunade's eyes snapped to Sakura, her expression hardening. "Absolutely not. I refuse to take on another student. Not after what happened to Shizune. I can't bear to lose someone else."

"But—" Sakura began, but Tsunade cut her off.

"My brother, Nawaki. My lover, Dan. And now Shizune. Everyone I care about ends up dead," Tsunade said, her voice cracking with emotion. "Even my grandfather, Hashirama Senju, and my uncle, Tobirama, died because of their roles. The title of Hokage is a one-way ticket to death."

As she spoke, Tsunade continued to heal Jiraiya, her hands moving with practiced precision despite her turmoil. Jiraiya winced occasionally, but his eyes were filled with understanding and sympathy.

"Sakura," Jiraiya said softly, "let's give Tsunade some space. She's been through enough."

The rosette nodded reluctantly, stepping back. Naruto, however, was not ready to give up.

His determination burned brighter than ever.

"Tsunade-baachan," Naruto said firmly, stepping forward. "I won't let Orochimaru keep getting away with this. Before we can make him pay though, Konoha needs you. We need you."

The adult looked at him, her eyes weary. "And what makes you think I can help? Sannin title and mythos be damned, I'm just one person, and I'm tired of fighting a losing battle."

Naruto's eyes flashed with resolve. "Then let me prove it to you. I'll show you that we can still fight, that we can still win. That there's still a chance."

And then the blonde flashed his signature shit-eating grin. He was still the number one prankster in Konoha history.

"I'll make a bet with you."

Tsunade raised an eyebrow, a hint of her natural self shining through. "A bet? What kind of bet?"

Naruto grinned. "If I can impress you, you have to come back to Konoha and become the Fifth Hokage."

Tsunade scoffed, but there was a spark of interest in her eyes. "And if you don't impress me?"

"Then we'll pack up and leave you alone," the genin said confidently. "But I promise you, I will."

The Sannin sighed, a reluctant smile tugging at her lips. "Alright, gaki. You have yourself a deal. Show me what you got."

With that acknowledgement, the boy dashed outside, followed closely by Sakura and a still-aching Jiraiya.

Tsunade watched them go, her heart heavy but curious.

As night fell, Shikamaru and Ino met with their fathers, Inoichi and Shikaku, to discuss their meeting with Goku. They shared their impressions and the bond they had formed.

"Goku is not a threat," Shikamaru concluded. "He's someone we can trust. We should give him a chance to prove himself."

Inoichi and Shikaku listened carefully, considering their words. They knew their children well and trusted their judgment.

"We'll take this into account," Inoichi said, his tone thoughtful. "But we still need to be cautious. Konoha's safety comes first."

Shikaku nodded. "Agreed. We'll present this to the council and see what can be done."

As they left the meeting, Ino and Shikamaru felt a sense of accomplishment. They had taken a step in ensuring Goku's place in Konoha, and they knew they would continue to support him.

Back in his cell, Goku remained unaware of the storm brewing around him. He continued to exercise and meditate, his heart and mind focused on the present. He knew that challenges lay ahead, but he did not care.

He wanted all the smoke.

Under the moonlit sky, the blonde began his training. Cross seal, initiated.

"Tajuu Kage Bunshin no Jutsu!"

He created fifty shadow clones, each one working diligently to perfect his techniques. Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Sakura watched from a distance, their expressions a mix of skepticism and hope.

Hours passed, the air filled with the sounds of grunts, shouts, and the occasional explosion of chakra. Naruto pushed himself to his limits, his determination unwavering. Eventually, he tapped into the Kyubi's chakra, a red aura cloaking him as he grew a single tail.

Sakura's eyes widened with awe and trepidation. "Naruto..."

Naruto then used the shadow clone jutsu again, creating twenty clones. Each pair of clones proceeded to help another form a Rasengan, the potent blue, red, and purple energy illuminating the sky in a dazzling display.

The swirling orbs of chakra created a vortex of light, casting an ethereal glow over the training ground. The sheer power and control Naruto exhibited were breathtaking.

Whoa.

Minato?

Tsunade's eyes widened in shock and admiration. "Minato..." she whispered under her breath, seeing echoes of the Fourth Hokage in Naruto's fierce determination and skill.

Jiraiya, despite his injuries, couldn't help but smile proudly. "That's my student. The child of prophecy."

PFFFF PFFFF PFFFF POOOOOF!

The clones dissipated into a cloud of smoke, soon revealing a sheepish Naruto who almost pleaded with Tsunade for her approval with his demeanor.

Sakura, unable to contain her excitement, lunged at Naruto, wrapping her arms around him in a tight hug. "Naruto, you were amazing!"

The blonde grinned, slightly embarrassed but happy, returned the hug with fervor. "Thanks, Sakura-chan."

Tsunade approached them, her heart swelling with a mixture of pride and sorrow. She saw in Naruto the same spirit that had driven her brother, her lover, and her sensei. Maybe there actually was a chance in this fight after all.

Maybe she could win her first and last bet? Maybe this would be her most surefire gamble to date? Time would tell.

She reached out, placing a hand on his head.

"I must say, you definitely impressed me, Naruto," she said softly. "You've shown me that there's still some hope left clinging to."

Naruto looked up at her, his eyes shining with hope of his own. "Does that mean...?"

Tsunade smiled solemnly, her eyes misting over. "Yes. I'll return to Konoha. I'll become the Fifth Hokage."

She then reached into her pocket and pulled out a necklace, the same one she had given her brother and Dan.

She placed it around Naruto's neck, then leaned down and kissed the top of his forehead.

"Take good care of it," she said, her voice filled with emotion.

Naruto beamed, his heart soaring with joy. "I will, Tsunade-baachan. I promise."

Sakura and Jiraiya watched with warmth in their eyes, the weight of the moment not lost on them. They had found their new Hokage, and with her, a renewed sense of hope for Konoha.

As the dawn began to break, casting a golden light over the land, Tsunade looked at her newfound allies. She saw in them the future of Konoha, a future she was now determined to protect. For the first time in a long while, she felt a glimmer of hope. She had found a reason to believe again, a reason to fight. And with her new students and allies by her side, she knew they had a fighting chance.

The morning light filtered through the small barred window of Goku's cell, casting long shadows on the stone floor. The young Saiyan sat cross-legged on his cot, eyes closed, deep in meditation. Despite his cheerful demeanor, the weight of the village's mistrust lingered in his thoughts.

And far importantly...

He was starving.

The sound of approaching footsteps broke his concentration. Goku opened his eyes to see Hiashi Hyuga, the stern head of the Hyuga clan, standing at the entrance to his cell. The man's instantly activated Byakugan eyes were sharp and calculating, a far cry from the warmth Goku had grown used to from Hinata.

"Son Goku," Hiashi began, his tone formal and unwavering, "I have come to question you about the events that transpired after you flew up and left the village to rescue my daughter."

Goku nodded, his expression calm and welcoming. "Sure thing, Hiashi-sama. I'll tell you everything."

Hiashi took a seat on the lone chair in the cell, his posture rigid. "Start from the beginning. I need to know every detail."

Goku leaned back, collecting his thoughts. "After you basically ordered me to follow the Red Ribbon Army and rescue Hinata, I left Konoha without hesitation. The first place I went was a building called Muscle Tower, a fortress they controlled. There, I met a kind android named Eighter. He helped me fight through the tower and defeat the guards."

Hiashi's eyes narrowed slightly, intrigued. "An android, you say? Interesting. Continue."

"We fought a lot of robots and other androids inside the tower. Their technology was way beyond anything I've seen in Konoha," Goku explained, his eyes lighting up with the excitement of the memory. "Eighter and I worked together to take down these machines. The tower was full of advanced tech—way more than what you guys have here."

Hiashi listened intently, his Byakugan eyes studying every nuance of Goku's expressions. "And what about Hinata? When did you find her?"

Goku's tone softened as he continued. "I found her trapped by a horde of machines. She was fighting them off, but she was getting overwhelmed. Me and Eighter jumped in and we fought side by side. Together, we destroyed all the robots and got her to safety."

Hiashi's stern demeanor began to waver as he absorbed Goku's words. He could see the truth in the boy's eyes, the sincerity in his voice. "You must have saved her from certain doom. For that, I am grateful. What happened next?"

"After we escaped, we took the Dragon Balls with us," Goku said, his voice returning to its usual cheerfulness. "We went to a place called Mirai Toshi to find the remaining Dragon Balls and make a wish."

Hiashi leaned forward, his interest piqued. "Mirai Toshi? Where is this place? And who did you meet there?"

Eh. That's too much information.

Goku's eyes twinkled with a mix of mischief and discretion. "I can't tell you exactly where it is because I don't really know. Eighter flew us there not me, we just followed the radar. As for the person I promised to keep them safe and away from trouble, so if it's okay with you I'm not gonna reveal them. What I can tell you is that we found all the Dragon Balls and made a wish."

Hiashi's curiosity was evident. "And what was the wish? Is the legend of the wish granting dragon actually true?"

Goku nodded affirmatively. "Yes, it's true. We summoned Shenron, and I used the wish to repay a debt. About two years ago, a young boy had his father and tribe killed by Tao Pai-Pai. I wished for their revival."

The older man sat back, absorbing the magnitude of Goku's actions. "A noble wish, indeed."

And then he looked Goku in the eyes once more. "But tell me, Goku, do you think it was the correct decision given the current state of Konoha? If you could do it over, would you make the same wish?"

Goku's expression grew serious, his eyes unwavering. "Yes, I would. It wouldn't be fair to only revive those killed by Orochimaru when someone new is added to the death toll every single day. What about the Uchiha clan? What about Naruto's family? What about my own? What about yours?"

Hiashi was silent for a moment, contemplating Goku's words. He saw the logic and the compassion in the boy's reasoning. "I understand your perspective, and I do not berate you for your decision. However, being a free agent makes you a rogue shinobi in principle. This does not bode well for your predicament. The village needs to ascertain your loyalty, or else you may need to be controlled forcibly."

Goku raised an eyebrow, his tone calm but questioning. "Why does loyalty have to mean being controlled? Isn't there another way?"

Hiashi's gaze softened. "You speak with wisdom beyond your years, Goku. But the shinobi system is built on control and order. Without it, chaos would ensue."

The boy nodded, accepting Hiashi's explanation without protest. "So, what's next?"

The man straightened, moving on to his next question. "How were you able to find the Dragon Balls in the first place?"

Goku grinned, his enthusiasm returning. "With a radar. It can track the Dragon Balls no matter where they are."

Hiashi's eyes narrowed slightly. "And have you given up this radar to the village authorities?"

Goku shook his head. "No, I still have it."

Hiashi extended his hand. "May I see it?"

Goku reached into his pocket and pulled out the Dragon Radar, tossing it to Hiashi, who caught it and examined it closely. His Byakugan eyes saw the intricate details of the device, noting the other small containers in Goku's pockets as well. But he chose to focus on the radar.

"This is impressive technology," Hiashi remarked, handing the radar back to Goku. "I can discern that you have been honest with me, and I appreciate that."

Goku took the radar, smiling brightly. "Thanks, Hiashi-sama."

Hiashi's expression softened further, an uncharacteristic gratitude in his eyes. "Because of you, my daughter has become strong. Stronger than I could have ever imagined. She admires you greatly, and for that, I cannot hold my presuppositions or distrust in you any longer."

Goku flashed a thumbs up, his cheerful demeanor unwavering. "I'm glad I could help, Hiashi-sama. She's totally awesome."

Hiashi stood, a rare smile gracing his lips. "You have my gratitude, Son Goku. And my blessing. Feel free to visit the Hyuga compound at your leisure."

With that, Hiashi turned and left the cell, leaving Goku to his own devices. As the cell door closed, Goku felt a sense of peace and accomplishment.

Despite the trials and suspicions, he had earned the respect and gratitude of one of Konoha's most influential figures.

And more importantly, Hinata's father.
