Chapter 23: A Crooked Cop
Yuma and Tori are just taking a walk around the streets of New Domino City under the moonlit sky. Tori sees the stars twinkling in the night alongside the shining moon. She glances towards Yuma and blushes warmly.
"Wow, for a planet that's been ravaged with years of warfare, there are still places that maintain their beauty." Yuma commented.
"Yeah." Tori said with a smile on her face. Before she could say any more, they hear police sirens. They see a Sector Security cruiser. Two officers, Dio and Fudagawa exit the cruiser and approach the World Duel Carnival champion.
"Yuma Tsukumo?" Dio asked.
"Yeah, that's me." Yuma responds.
"We'd like you to come with us." Fudagawa grab Yuma by the arms.
"Hey! What are you doing?! I've done nothing wrong!" Yuma yelled.
"Let him go!" Tori shouts. She tries to hit Dio, but he grabs her by the wrist.
"You'll have to come with us, too, young lady." Dio told her as they push the two into their cruiser and drive off.
"What does Sector Security want with us?" Tori asked.
"No idea." Yuma told her. He turned to the officer driving. "Officer, are we in some kind of trouble?"
"Oh, no, you're in no trouble." Fudagawa told him. Yuma sighs in relief. "Not until you meet the Chief, anyway."
"The Chief?" Yuma asked.
"Yeah, Armstrong. He's in charge of the Facility, New Domino City's correctional center." Dio explains. "At least he used to until some Satellite took him down."
"Satellite?" Tori asked for more info.
"Apparently this hotshot duelist we brought in for trespassing made a deck out of random cards loaned to him by some of the other inmates and whooped the Chief." Fudagawa explained.
"Hotshot from Satellite…" Yuma pondered. A duelist from Satellite who defeated the Chief of the Facility using random cards. It didn't take very long for him to put those clues together. "Yusei."
"Yeah, that's him. You know the guy?" Dio asked.
"Only for a couple of days, but I've been told he's the WRGP Champion!" Yuma told them.
"Man, Armstrong's going to be mad when he hears that." Fudagawa said to Dio
"Mad? Try completely ape!" Dio added. They look ahead and see the Facility. "We're here."
Dio and Fudagawa lead Yuma and Tori to Armstrong's office. Yuma hears a ringing sound. He pulls out his Duel Gazer and answers. He sees Yusei. "Yusei."
"Yuma, I heard from Shark that you're about to meet Armstrong." Yusei deduced.
"Yeah, but with a name like Armstrong, he doesn't sound very intimidating."
"Careful what you say. He's said to be the worst warden in the Facility. He abused his authority and he punished inmates just for looking at him wrong. And his deck, if you're not careful, you'll be out of cards before you can mount a comeback."
"I'll try to be careful around him." Yuma said before hanging up.
"We have him, sir, as requested. We also have one of his friends." Fudagawa reported.
"Send them in."
The doors open, revealing Armstrong. Dio and Fudagawa escort them inside before leaving.
"So, you must be Yuma Tsukumo. You're not what I expected in a troublemaker."
"Troublemaker?!" Yuma argued.
"That's right. You've caused a whole lot of trouble in Heartland City! Enough for me to detain you!" Armstrong confirmed.
"Seriously, you can't prove that Yuma was responsible for everything!" Tori defended his friend.
"You want proof? Listen to all the things he's done." Armstrong pulled out a list from his desk and listed off Yuma's suspected "wrongdoings". Yuma did what he could to defend himself.
"Causing trouble at school."
"I kind of had my own fun when it came to feeling the flow."
"Destruction of a warehouse."
"I was trying to take back the key Kite stole from me."
"Knocking down a donut sign."
"That one was by my dad's old assistant, Charlie McCay. He also dated my sister Kari."
"Stealing a friend's food."
This time, Tori was the one who spoke up. "I just so happen to be that friend, and if he steals any food from me again, he's going to be so sorry!"
"Now that we've gone over your crimes, I better decide on a punishment for you." Armstrong starts pondering on a punishment. Tori sees some police hats on a shelf.
"Hey, Yuma. You know what would make me laugh?" Tori asked quietly.
"What is it?" Yuma wondered. Tori whispered to him her plan. Yuma grins with a snicker. "Tori, I like the way you think." He grabs one of the hats and puts it on. He stands like a military Lieutenant. "Attention!" Armstrong hears Yuma's voice and stands at attention.
"I am just appalled. Just look at you, you call yourself an officer of the law!? You're a complete disgrace to your regiment!" Yuma shouts angrily. He pulls Armstrong's clothes off, leaving him in his large undergarments. Tori tries to hold her stifling laugh, but to no avail. She and Yuma laugh up a storm. Armstrong got mad and put his clothes back on.
"Alright, you had your fun, but I'm still not done listing your crimes yet." Armstrong glared and felt around for his list, but he couldn't find it. "Hey, what happened to my list?!"
"You mean this list right here?" Yuma revealed the list of his crimes.
"Yeah, that's the one. Give it here."
"Okay then." Yuma said before tearing the list in half, shocking Armstrong.
"You're going to pay dearly for what you did! That's also going on the list! Fine, be that way! I've been wanting to duel you anyway!" Armstrong shouts. He grabs his Duel Disk. "Now we'll see who's superior!"
"Bring it on! Because I am feeling the flow!"
"Let's take this to the Courtyard."
Armstrong, Yuma, and Tori head to the Courtyard. Their Duel Disks power on.
"Dio, Fudagawa, ready the Action Field."
"Yes sir. Activating the Action Field Spell Prison of Punishment."
"Augmented Reality Combat System energized. Generating Action Field…" The AI announced as the area around them transformed into a massive hexagonal prison block with hundreds of cells. The prison block has some walkways as well.
"A fitting location, wouldn't you agree? A prison is perfect to lock up troublemakers like you!"
"Yeah, but this jailbird's flying free after this!"
"Hold on a sec. Before we get started, I have something to make things a little fun." Armstrong passes Yuma an electronic brace.
"What's with this brace?"
"Like I said, it's something to make this duel a little fun. See, when either one of us takes any damage, those arm braces give out a bit of a tickle."
"Don't accept it, Yuma. I heard Armstrong's a liar and a bully." Tori warned. "The last time Yusei battled Armstrong like this, he made it so that his static generator never shocked him until later in the match and he used the security cameras to spy on Yusei's cards."
"I know, but what choice do I have?" Yuma said as he put the brace on his left arm. Armstrong puts his on his left arm.
"Time to duel!"
Yuma Tsukumo: 4000 LP
VS.
Mr. Armstrong: 4000 LP
The Action cards are scattered. "Action cards dispersed." The AI announced.
"Since I'm in charge here, I'll start things off."
Turn 1: Armstrong (4000)
"I'll begin by summoning Iron Chain Bandit!" Armstrong plays a new monster, a young man in tattered clothing with chains wrapped around his arms and chest. He's armed with chain bolas. (Level 4/1200/500)
"Iron Chain Bandit? I don't like that monster." Yuma said.
"Then you're not going to like his special ability. As soon as he's summoned, I get to pick a card in your hand and if it's a monster, you lose a card in your deck for each of its Levels." Armstrong stated. "Let's see… how about the center card?" Iron Chain Bandit throws one of its arm chains at Yuma's middle card, revealing the card as Dododo Buster.
"Dododo Buster, huh? That monster's Level 6, so you lose six cards in your deck." Yuma scowls as he sends the top six cards of his deck. (Yuma's deck: 35→29)
"I'll just take it easy on you and place these two cards face-down." Armstrong places two cards face-down. "Let's see what you can do."
"Okay. Get set to get decked, Armstrong." Yuma begins his turn.
Turn 2: Yuma (4000)
"I draw!" Yuma draws his card. (Yuma's deck: 29→28)
He sees a pair of Pendulum cards among his usual monsters. Astral appears beside Yuma. "Be careful, Yuma. Iron Chain monsters specialize in chipping away an opponent's deck. Make any wrong moves and your deck will fall victim to the power of his monsters."
"I'll be careful. All I need to do is win before I run out of cards. I'm setting the Pendulum Scale with Scale 3 Gagaga Clown and Scale 7 Gagaga Cleric!" Yuma sets his Pendulum Scale with the two monsters. On the right Scale is a clown dressed in purple and orange. The ball he's balancing on bears the crest of the Gagaga. On the left Scale is a white-haired woman in a white and tan robe. Her spell book bears the crest on the hard cover. The numbers representing their Scale appear.
"I can now summon monsters between Level 4 and 6 at the same time." Yuma declared. "I Pendulum Summon! Come on out, Gagaga Magician, Dododo Buster, and Dododo Warrior!" Yuma's three monsters appear at the ready. (Gagaga Magician: Level 4/1500/1000; Dododo Warrior: Level 6/2300/900; Dododo Buster: Level 6/1900/800)
"Intriguing. By Pendulum summoning, you can make the most of any monster, regardless of what drawbacks it has." Astral mused.
"I never imagined you'd Pendulum summon already." Armstrong said with a smirk. "But I'm ready for it. I activate Level Lockdown!" He reveals his Trap card. "If I have an Iron Chain monster out, and your monsters have an equal or higher Level, then those monsters can't attack me! My Bandit is Level 4, so all your Level 4 or higher monsters are on lockdown!" Chains emerge from the ground and shackle all of Yuma's monsters.
"Not good. With Yuma's monsters unable to attack, Armstrong can chip away at his deck until he has nothing left!" Tori said, feeling scared.
"I've got your monsters locked down, Yuma. And once this duel's done, you're next!" Armstrong said.
"Yeah, you did lock down my monsters with a higher Level, but that's all you did." Yuma smirked.
"Say what?!" Armstrong gasps.
"It's true your Trap card prevents monsters with a higher Level from attacking. You never said anything about Xyz Monsters."
"Xyz Monsters?" Armstrong asked.
"Of course. Xyz Monsters have Ranks instead of Levels, so Armstrong's Trap is useless against them." Astral realized.
"Exactly right, Astral. And here's why. I overlay Level 6 Dododo Warrior and Dododo Buster!" Both monsters turn into orange energy and swirl up. "With these two monsters, I build the Overlay Network and Xyz Summon Gauntlet Launcher!" A red robotic being emerges with thrusters on its back. Two orange orbs revolve around its body. (Rank 6/2400/2800)
"A nice move. Level Lockdown doesn't work on Xyz Monsters." Armstrong scowled.
"If that surprises you, wait 'til you see Gauntlet Launcher's ability. I can use one of its Overlay Units to destroy a monster on your field. Take out that Bandit!" One of Gauntlet Launcher's Overlay Units enters its metal fist. The monster fires it at Iron Chain Bandit. The rocket fist hits Iron Chain Bandit, destroying it on impact.
"When my bandit is destroyed, so is Level Lockdown." Armstrong said as his trap disappears.
"And thanks to that, Gagaga Magician is free!" The brown-robed magician breaks from his binds.
"Gauntlet Launcher, attack Armstrong directly with Turbo Jab!" Gauntlet Launcher charges at Armstrong. He looks scared, but he quickly switches to a look of wicked confidence.
"I knew you'd try and go after me, which is why I had this handy! I activate the trap Barrier Chain!" Armstrong reveals his Trap. "And it's a barrier that'll help me big time. See, once a turn, I can toss 5 cards in my deck to the graveyard to cancel your attack." A chain wall emerges and blocks Gauntlet Launcher's punch. The cards Armstrong sends to the graveyard are revealed as Blaster, Snake, Repairman, and two unknown Chain monsters.
"Drat! I was hoping I'd get a big lead this turn." Yuma glared.
"Then you won't be liking what's next. Thanks to Barrier Chain, I can bring back an Iron Chain monster from the Graveyard, so I'm busting out Iron Chain Repairman!" Armstrong's hammer wielding monster emerges. (Level 4/1600/1200)
"Drat! Guess I'll just end my turn with a face-down." Yuma ends his turn with a face-down card.
"Is that it? This duel's going to be over sooner than I thought." Armstrong smirks.
Turn 3: Armstrong (4000)
"My move." Armstrong draws his card. "You may think you're in the lead in terms of monsters, but your Graveyard's starting to fill up. And that's something worth using to my advantage. I summon the Tuner monster Iron Chain Cactus!" An iron cactus man with chain links for needles appears beside Iron Chain Repairman. (Level 3/400/1000)
"If I have less cards in your Graveyard, I can automatically summon it." Armstrong said. "Next, I summon Iron Chain Snake." Armstrong's next monster is a snake with a large chain-like body. (Level 3/800/1200)
"And now I'll tune my Cactus with my Iron Chain Snake so that I can Synchro Summon Iron Chain Dragon!" Armstrong chants as Iron Chain Cactus becomes three motes of light and rise into the air, becoming three green rings that surround Iron Chain Snake, turning it into three more motes of light. Armstrong laughs as his Synchro Monster emerges with a roar. (Level 6/2500/1300)
"And here's where things get fun. See, for every Iron Chain monsters I've got in my Graveyard, my dragon gains 200 Attack points. And if my count's correct, there's 7, so now my dragon gains 1400 Attack points." Iron Chain Dragon roars as it powers up. (2500→3900)
"That's one beefed up beast." Yuma yelped.
"That's right. Iron Chain Dragon, send that Gauntlet Launcher to the scrap pile!" Iron Chain Dragon blasts Yuma's Gauntlet Launcher with a green flame, destroying it. Yuma reels from the attack. (Yuma: 4000→2500)
"You may want to brace yourself, Yuma. You're going to be in for a shock." Armstrong said as Yuma's anklet energizes and shocks Yuma. He screams in pain.
"Yuma!" Tori yelled. Yuma groaned as he struggled to keep upright.
"Now Repairman, use that mallet to make that magician disappear!" Iron Chain Repairman charges at Yuma's magician.
"Yuma! Your Trap!" Astral told him.
"Got it. I activate Gagagarescue!" Yuma reveals a new trap. "When you attack a Gagaga, I can summon another Gagaga from my hand or deck to stop your attack. Zubababancho Gagagacoat, help him out!" A masked warrior in dark armor appears with a spiked sword in hand. He wears a black coat with the Gagaga crest on the back as a cape. (Level 4/1800/100; Yuma's deck: 28→27)
Zubababancho blocks Iron Chain Repairman's attack with his sword. "A wise move, Yuma. Had Repairman's attack succeeded in destroying Gagaga Magician, you would take 300 points of damage." Astral told him.
"You got lucky this time, but I'll get you on my next turn." Armstrong announced the end of his turn."
Turn 4: Yuma (2200)
"I'll be sure to snap your chains before long. I draw!" Yuma draws his card. (Yuma's deck: 27→26) He sees that the card is Xyz Change Tactics. "Perfect."
"Ready, Yuma?" Astral asked.
"Yeah! Time to high five the sky! I activate Xyz Change Tactics!" Yuma plays his Continuous Spell. "Now whenever I Xyz Summon Utopia, I can trade in 500 Life Points for one new card."
"That's a big risk you're making, boy!" Armstrong said.
"But it's a risk worth taking. I overlay Level 4 Gagaga Magician and Zubababancho Gagagacoat!" The Spellcaster becomes purple energy, and the Warrior turns into orange energy, both swirling into the air. "With these two monsters, I build the Overlay Network! I Xyz Summon Number 39: Utopia!" The two monsters enter the galactic rift and explode. A red "39" flashes in the air before Yuma's white and gold-armored Warrior flies in, striking a stoic pose. (Rank 4/2500/2000)
"I've heard of these Numbers. I'd be happy to take them once you're locked up." Armstrong smirked.
"I'd like to see you try. I pay 500 points to activate Xyz Change Tactics' effect!" Yuma declared as another surge of electricity coursed through him. He braced himself. (Yuma: 2200→1700)
"Now I get to draw one card." Yuma draws one more card, revealed as Reverse Breaker. (Yuma's deck: 26→25) "Nice! I equip Utopia with Reverse Breaker!" Yuma plays his Equip spell. "Now, when Utopia attacks, I can destroy a Spell or Trap card. And the best part is you can't use any of your Spell or Traps to stop it."
"You're kidding me!"
"Does this sound like I'm joking? Utopia, attack Repairman!" Yuma calls for his attack. "And with Reverse Breaker's effect, I destroy Barrier Chain!" Yuma's Number Armstrong's Trap explodes. He scowls. "Now to get rid of that Repairman! Rising Sun Slash!" Utopia brings down his sword down on Repairman, destroying it. (Armstrong: 4000→3100)
"Well done. Now let's see how he likes getting shocked." Tori said. Small sparks illuminate from Armstrong's shock brace. Armstrong lets out a scream, feigning pain before his scream became a laugh.
"Wait! Your brace should've shocked you! What gives?!"
"Aw, would you look at that? My shock brace isn't working. Maybe they didn't wire it right."
"Yeah, that could be it." Yuma sneered.
"I should've known he was dishonest." Astral thought to himself.
"Armstrong, you cheat! Your brace was never hooked up to shock you and you know it!" Tori accused him.
Armstrong laughs. "I resent what you're implying there, little lady! I can't help it if this thing breaks, can I?"
"Then fix it already!" Tori barked. "I told you he's not being fair, Yuma! You need to stop the duel and walk away!"
"I wish I could, Tori, but if I do, I'm going to be spending the rest of my school years behind bars." Yuma told her. "And I can't let that happen."
"Yuma, I commend your fighting spirit, but as long as I have more cards than you, my victory is certain." Armstrong gave kudos to his opponent. From atop the building, we see Officer 227, Vector, and Dumon watching.
"I knew Armstrong wouldn't play fair." 227 deduced.
"The only way Yuma can win is if he gets the card he needs before Armstrong whittles his deck into nothing." Dumon said.
"I'll be right back." Vector leaves 227 and Dumon.
Turn 5: Armstrong (3100)
"Moving on…" Armstrong draws his card. "Now you might think with Utopia out there, you're a shoo-in to win. But the next card will make sure you don't get that chance. And here it is! I summon Iron Chain Engineer!" Armstrong's new monster is a gray-skinned man with an array of tools strapped to his chain belt. (Level 6/1900/1200)
"Normally, I can't summon him without any sacrifices, but if I happen to have at least three different Iron Chain monsters in my graveyard, I can summon him right away." Armstrong points out.
"He's got 2 Level 6 monsters now." Tori said.
"That's right. And I've been wanting to try this for a very long time. I overlay Level 6 Iron Chain Engineer and Iron Chain Dragon!" Both monsters turn into orange energy that swirl into the air before entering a red Overlay Network. "With these two monsters, I build the Overlay Network! I Xyz Summon Iron Chain Warden!" Emerging from the Overlay Network is a large warden dressed in a police uniform armed with stun batons and chains wrapped around his chest and waist. (Rank 6/2200/1200)
"And here's where it gets fun. For every monster in your Graveyard, my Warden gains 100 Attack points. And I count 9, so he gets 900 extra power-packed points." Armstrong said as his Warden powers up. (2200→3100)
"Now, Warden, attack Utopia!" Armstrong commanded his Xyz Monster to attack.
"Yuma, quick!" Astral called out.
"I activate Utopia's special ability! By using an Overlay Unit, I can stop your monster's attack. Light Wing Shield!" Yuma uses Utopia's ability to block Iron Chain Warden's attack.
"You got lucky this time. But since another monster entered your Graveyard, my Warden gains another 100 points." Iron Chain Warden glares towards Yuma as it powers up. (3100→3200)
"I'll just end my turn with this face-down." Armstrong ended his turn with a face-down.
"Yuma, if we're going to take down that Warden, we need one of the Zexal Weapons to beat him."
"Using a Zexal Weapon without Zexal?" Yuma asked. "It's a risky move, but I'm willing to try anything."
Turn 6: Yuma (1700)
"I draw!" Yuma draws his card and sees that it's Xyz Treasure Ticket. (Yuma's deck: 25→24) "Yes! I activate Xyz Treasure Ticket! I pick an Xyz Monster that's Rank 4 or less, and I draw cards equal to its Rank. Since Utopia is Rank 4, I can draw 4 cards!"
Armstrong laughs. "You must have mud balls for brains! The more cards you draw, the closer you are to losing this duel."
"He's right. If you run out of cards to draw, you'll lose." Tori reminded him.
"I know. That's why I must trust myself as well as I trust my cards." Yuma assured as he prepares to draw. "I draw!" He sees the four cards he drew: ZW – Tornado Bringer, Gagaga Sister, Monster Reborn, and Half Unbreak. (Yuma's deck: 24→20)
"I equip Utopia with the Zexal Weapon - Tornado Bringer!" A dark red oriental dragon appears. "As long as Utopia is swinging this mighty weapon, it gains 1300 Attack points!" The dragon transforms into an oriental sword. Utopia grabs the dragon-shaped sword. (2500→3800)
"That's a lot of points!"
"That's not all. I activate Gagaga Cleric's Pendulum ability! By banishing a Spell from my Graveyard, like this Mini-Guts, I can revive a Gagaga from my Graveyard." The mentioned card disappears from the Graveyard. "Come on back, Gagaga Magician!" The brown-robed magician reappears. (Level 4/1500/1100)
"Next, I summon Gagaga Sister!" Yuma summons a young girl in white and pink and in her hands is a life-sized key. (Level 2/200/800)
"And thanks to her ability, I can draw a Gagaga Spell or Trap to my hand." Another card slips out of Yuma's deck. (Yuma's deck: 20→19)
"At the rate you're getting your cards, your deck will be empty by the time my next turn comes." Armstrong said.
"We'll see. Now's the time to high five my circuit!"
"What did he say?!" Armstrong said in surprise as the eight-arrow portal opens above Yuma.
"The summoning conditions require 2 Gagagas, which is exactly what I have. I set Gagaga Sister and Magician in the Link Arrows!" Both Gagaga monsters enter the portal, illuminating the down-left and down-right arrows. "I Link Summon! Link 2 Gagaga Little Witch!" Yuma's new Link Monster is a purple-haired witch wearing pink and purple clothing that resembles Gagaga Girl's wear. She's riding on a broomstick and is armed with a scepter with a blue orb on the top. (1500/↙↘)
"So that's a Link monster." Dumon said watching from afar. Vector returned.
"Where were you?" 227 asked.
"Let's just say I'm evening the playing field a bit."
"Utopia, attack that Warden! Rising Sun Tornado Slash!" Yuma commands his monster to attack. Utopia uses Tornado Bringer to slice Iron Chain Warden, destroying it. Armstrong's brace energizes, and this time it shocks him.
"Huh? Whoa! OW!" Armstrong yelped from the shock brace. (Armstrong: 3100→2500)
"What? His brace finally shocked him." 227 noted.
"Looks like someone turned the power back on." Dumon agreed. He glanced towards Vector, assuming he had something to do with Armstrong's shock brace finally shocking him.
Armstrong was woozy after that initial shock. "Now, Gagaga Little Witch, move on in and work your magic with a direct attack!"
Little Witch raised her scepter and energized a blue fireball. "Alright, there's no way I'm going through the trouble of cheating just so he could win. Time for me to bear my fangs."
"I activate the Trap Iron Chain Forge! This little card lets me summon an Iron Chain monster from my deck and block your little attack. Come on out, Iron Chain Tank!" The monster defending Armstrong is a soldier inside a chain wrapped tank. (Level 4/1900/1550)
Yuma scowled once he saw how powerful his tank was. "Little Witch, stand down." The blue fireball dissipates.
"You got lucky this time, Armstrong. I place one card face-down and I end my turn." Yuma declares the end of his turn with a single face-down.
"Hey, what's the big idea? My brace has been shocking me." Armstrong contacted his guards.
"I know, but the damage to the mainframe can't be undone, meaning the shock running through the brace will continue for the remainder of the contest!" Fudagawa reported.
Armstrong growled. "When I find who did this, he's in for a very long "lecture"!"
"But first, your duel. And now that the field is even, I'd be shocked to see you win." Tori taunted.
"Don't antagonize him, Tori." Yuma quietly warned. "You don't want to make him madder than he was with my drill sergeant bit."
"But you have to admit, it was funny." Tori smiled.
"You guys better hope Heartland is wrong about this boy." Armstrong warned his guard.
"Don't worry, sir; we've outfitted your deck with the most advanced chain monster combos available. Yuma's not the only one with a Number in his arsenal."
Turn 7: Armstrong (2500)
"Here goes!" Armstrong draws his card and sees a Spell. He smirks. "Okay, time to review the situation. I have my trusty Iron Chain Tank on the front line, while the little shrimp's got some pint-sized witch and that Number monster. The boy's got 19 cards left in his deck. Once I take those cards away from him, I win. And I've got the card to do just that."
"I think I'll mix things up by activating the Spell card Pot of Dimensions." Armstrong plays a new Spell. "If either of our Graveyards contain a monster that can be summoned from the Extra Deck, I can draw 2 cards." He draws two cards from his deck, one is a Spell that he needed.
"I play Iron Chain Factory! See, I can bring back any Iron Chain monster in my Graveyard. So, I'm bringing back Iron Chain Repairman!" Armstrong's sledgehammer-wielding monster reappears. (Level 4/1600/900)
"The one drawback to using it is that it can't attack directly this turn, but that's fine with me, because I can use my Repairman's ability to bring out another monster from the Graveyard, so I think I'll summon out Iron Chain Shockblader!" Armstrong brings out a new monster, a warrior in a prison uniform wielding a sword made from chain links welded together. (Level 4/1900/1000)
"And with Shockblader's arrival, the top card in your deck goes straight to the Graveyard." Armstrong tells him. Yuma scowls as his top card goes to the graveyard, revealed as ZW – Pegasus Twin Saber. (Yuma's deck: 19→18)
"And now's the perfect time to show you a little surprise, Yuma." He pulls his hat up. An orange "66" flashed on his forehead.
"Yuma! His forehead!" Tori called out. Yuma was horrified to see a Number on Armstrong's forehead.
"But how?!" Astral said in total shock.
"Judging from that look on your face, you must've known what kind of surprise I have. Well, I think it's fair that I give it to you! I overlay Level 4 Iron Chain Repairman, Tank, and Shockblader!" All three of Armstrong's monsters turn into orange energy and swirl into an Overlay Network. "With these three monsters, I build the Overlay Network! I Xyz Summon Number 66: Iron Chain Golem!" Armstrong laughs as the orange "66" flashes in the sky. Armstrong's Number appeared a gigantic rock creature with large horns and sharpened chain links for teeth. (Rank 4/0/2800)
"Since when did Armstrong have a Number?!" Dumon gasped.
"That's what I want to know!" Vector said in surprise.
The duelist and spectator were shocked to see Armstrong summon a Number so easily. "When did Armstrong get a Number?" Tori asked.
"The real question is why does he have one!?" Yuma said in total shock. "I thought we collected all the Numbers!"
"We did. Perhaps this is from a new generation of Number cards." Astral deduced.
"Maybe so, but how come it doesn't have any Attack Points?" Yuma asked.
"Don't go judging a monster by its strength, boy." Armstrong argued. "It's a gift from your old buddy, Heartland! He promised me a great riches if I got rid of you!"
"Heartland?!" Tori gasped.
"But that can't be right! He should be destroyed!" Yuma argued.
"Well, you're wrong. And I'm about to prove it! Iron Chain Golem, attack Utopia!"
"He's flipped his lid!" Tori gasps.
"Not quite. My Golem can't be destroyed in battle, and if your monster is more powerful than mine, I can use an Overlay Unit to reduce the I take damage to 0. And the best part is, for every 200 points of damage I would've taken, you lose a card in your deck."
"Utopia has 3800 points, so if the attack connects…" Tori began.
"All the cards in my deck will be gone." Yuma said in total horror.
"Exactly!" Armstrong confirmed. "Iron Chain Golem, finish him!"
"Yuma! Yuma!" Astral called out to his other half, snapping him to reality. He notices that he has one Overlay Unit left.
"I use Utopia's Overlay Unit and stop your attack!" Utopia's Overlay Unit is used. and the Warrior creates a shield to block the attack.
"So, you've got another turn, big deal." Armstrong glared. "You don't stand a chance as long as my Golem's ability is in play."
"He's right. If I attack, I'll lose the rest of my deck, along with the duel." Yuma pondered. "There's only one card that can guarantee my victory, but I need to draw it."
Turn 8: Yuma (1700)
"Get ready, Armstrong, because I am Feeling the Flow!" Yuma declared as his right hand became aglow with light.
"What's going on?!" Armstrong yelped.
"A truly powerful duelist can change the outcome of a duel! He can even generate the very card that he needs to draw!" Yuma declares as the top card of his deck glows. He prepares to draw it. "It is said that one card can decide a duel's outcome. Time to find out what that card is! Go, Shining Draw!" Yuma draws his card, a trail of light following his movements. Yuma sees the card as Zexal Draw. (Yuma's deck: 18→17)
"Perfect!" Yuma said to himself. "I play Zexal Draw! By returning Tornado Bringer to my hand, I can draw 2 cards!" The dragon sword vanishes, and its card reappears in Yuma's hand. (3800→2500) He draws 2 new cards, revealed as Utopia Buster and Rank-Up-Magic Numeron Force.
"Now I activate Rank-Up-Magic Numeron Force!" Yuma plays the Rank-Up-Magic card. "This card Ranks up Utopia into a Chaos Xyz Monster! I rebuild the Overlay Network with Utopia!" The white and gold armored Warrior becomes a stream of light and enters the Overlay Network. "Go, Chaos Xyz Evolution! Appear, Number C39: Utopia Ray Victory!" Utopia is encased in white and crimson armor with a larger set of wings. Blue stones are seen on its helmet and shoulder and knee pads. It assumes a stoic battle stance. (Rank 5/2800/2500)
"That's a nice little light show you put on there, but it won't change a thing. In case you forgot, my Golem is invincible." Armstrong reminded him.
"Not for much longer. Since I used Numeron Force to Rank Up Utopia, the effects and abilities of every other face-up card on the field are negated!" The energy from the card dispels the powers of Yuma's Gagaga Little Witch and Xyz Change Tactics and Armstrong's golem.
"NO!" Armstrong yelled in horror.
Yuma smirks, preparing to bring the W home. "Utopia Ray Victory, attack!"
Armstrong looks for an Action Card and sees two on the walkway. Armstrong runs to them. Yuma races to the cards from the opposite direction. They grab one simultaneously.
"I play the Action Spell Evasion!" Armstrong plays the Action Spell he just got.
"Then I'll be playing No Action, and that means you won't be evading anything this time!" Yuma plays his Action Spell, nullifying Armstrong's Spell. He yells horrified.
"Go, Utopia Ray Victory, destroy his Iron Chain Golem and end this duel! Rising Sun Double Victory Slash!" Yuma commands his monster to finish the job. Utopia Ray Victory deal a set of V-shaped slashes at the fiendish golem. The golem roars in pain as it explodes. Armstrong's shock brace activates and shocks its wearer. He bellows in agonizing pain. He falls forward, his hat falling off his head. (Armstrong: 2500→0)
"You did it, Yuma!" Tori cheered for Yuma.
"He did it! He won!" Dumon smiled.
"I knew he'd trust in the Ray Way!" Vector smirked, pleased by his friend's victory. Yuma approaches Armstrong and takes the Number from Armstrong's Duel Disk.
Armstrong glances at Yuma. He scowls. "I'm putting you into immediate lockdown!" Mr. Armstrong shouts angrily.
"What!? But what about our deal?" Yuma asks.
"We don't have any deals! You're spending the rest of your life in prison!" Mr. Armstrong shouts angrily as he charges straight towards Yuma, but suddenly, a patrol car came by and got in the way. The driver side window lowered, revealed to be Officer Tetsu Trudge and Mina Simington.
"Hop in!" Trudge ordered as Yuma and Tori got in the car, and buckled up, then the car drove off as Mr. Armstrong grunts in anger.
"Thanks for the rescue, Trudge!" Yuma thanked him.
"Don't mention it, kid." Trudge said.
"We should've told you Mr. Armstrong was the most ruthless warden in the Facility. Yusei exposed him for abusing his authority and position and for that, Goodwin fired him!" Mina told him.
"Should've expected that from Sector Security." Yuma sighs.
"I've read over your file. He must've forgot to mention that time you got arrested when you were present at a crime scene." Mina reminded him.
"Care to explain?" Trudge asked.
"Kite showed up there, and when I came up to check it out, he was gone!" Yuma explained.
"I guess you're in the clear now, huh?" Mina asked.
"Yeah…" Yuma nods before feeling the aftereffects of the shock brace.
"You okay, Yuma?" Tori asked.
"Yeah, that shock brace really gets you, huh?"
"Relax, kid. Once we get back to the base, we're taking you to the infirmary."
"Good idea." Yuma agreed as they headed back to the Resistance Base.
"Unbelievable! You're the Facility's most ruthless warden and even you couldn't beat Yuma Tsukumo!" Mr. Heartland shouts angrily. The yelling can be heard from outside the fortress.
"I'm sorry Mr. Heartland, I never thought he could Pendulum and Link summon too. And if that weren't bad enough, he even took my Number card." Mr. Armstrong tells him.
"What kind of excuse is that!? If we fail to win this tournament, you crummy villains aren't the only ones Emperor Shade and my master Don Thousand will be furious at!" Mr. Heartland shouts angrily.
"I had a feeling we would lose, and I was right." Sayer spoke before coming in. "But I can defeat anyone you can think of, for the right price, of course."
"Alright. Name your price." Heartland suggests. Sayer sets his price to $5,000.
"You want me to pay you $5,000? You gotta be kidding me." Mr. Heartland says.
"Oh no, I never joke around. Pay me or leave. Your choice." Sayer glared.
"Okay fine! Lucky for you I have the perfect target for you: Kite Tenjo." Mr. Heartland tells him as he pays him $5,000.
In the base infirmary, Rio is wrapping some bandages around Yuma's arm. "And finished."
"You going to be okay now, Yuma?" Tori asks with a smile.
"I better be. How am I to take on Mr. Heartland in this condition?" Yuma asks.
"Mr. Heartland?" Tori asks.
"Yuma, the last time we heard from Mr. Heartland, Don Thousand after you defeated him." Rio smiles while reminding him.
"I thought he would stay dead, but Mr. Armstrong told me that Mr. Heartland was paying him to destroy me." Yuma informs.
"It's safe to say Shade brought him here from when he was at his most villainous." Kite said.
"Kite? What are you doing here?" Yuma asked.
"Is it a crime not to check on a friend after they survived a grueling duel?" Kite smirked. "I heard you snagged a new Number from Armstrong."
"Yeah. I have it right here." Yuma confirmed before pulling out Number 66: Iron Chain Golem from his deck box.
"Looks legitimate. I can tell it'll help you in future battles." Kite nods.
"Speaking of future battles, who are you up against this time?" Rio asked.
"I was recently issued a challenge from someone called Sayer." Kite informed him. "I am to face him in an abandoned theme park."
"Be careful out there, Kite. I hear he's a Psychic duelist." Yuma warned him.
"I've stopped a blimp from crashing, battled Barian Emperors, and even dueled on the Moon. I can handle a Psychic duelist." Kite laughed before leaving to take on his opponent.
