"Now what happens?" Faith asked as they watched Giles being taken away by MPs, Military Police.
"Now we charge him with the crimes we can charge him with, including facilitating rape. Buffy Summers couldn't legally consent to sex with Angel because of her age, which makes it statutory rape and he allowed and encouraged that relationship, sick as it was. Ironic since she could legally consent to sex with someone her own age. With neglect of you and emotional and mental abuse of both of you. Also, as a librarian he has teaching credentials and is a mandated reporter, he was trained to see signs of abuse and ignored the signs that both you and Corporal Harris were abuse survivors and the grooming behavior of Angel, some of which was actually pointed out to him, not that at the time either Corporal Harris or Willow Rosenberg understood that's what Angel's behavior meant. Corporal Harris knew it made him uncomfortable to witness it and Willow Rosenberg thought it was romantic."
"Anything else?"
"Like Robin Wood, he'll also be charged with the deaths that occured in the commission of a felony. Facilitating rape is a felony, therefore any murders that occured as a result of it fall under that charge. We have no idea how many people Angelus killed in those months he was running around loose because Buffy was compromised and Rupert Giles refused to call in assistance."
"He did go after Angel himself after his girlfriend was killed."
"He alerted Buffy to what he was doing before he did it and prolonged his assault on Angelus. It could be looked at as he wanted to prolong it in order to enjoy it as revenge or he wasn't thinking clearly and that may well be true, but his method of attack was stupidly planned and executed and we're talking about a man who has known vampires and such exist since he was ten when he was told he'd have to follow in the family business and be a Watcher. He had access to crossbows and knew how to use them and if he was going to use fire, he could have just set the whole damn place on fire, it was full of vampires, three of which were Masters. Instead he walked right into the midst of them to assault Angelus, rather than just dust him. It could be argued that he used the death of his girlfriend to further his agenda with Buffy because she felt even guiltier over his pain and it made her even more dependent on him. She still hasn't acknowledged the humans that died during that mess, he has succeeded in desensitizing her to human life. The only time she reacted was when she thought she'd get in trouble, Ted the Robot, Kendra and the Deputy Mayor. Trying to turn herself into the police over the body of Warren Mear's girlfriend wasn't because she thought she actually killed her, it was because she was running from her pain over being alive again. If she truly cared over the people that died because of her actions and choices it wouldn't have taken until then for her to react. She needs a lot of help to recover from what he's done to her and so do you."
"Getting there. Anything else I should know about?"
"I'm personally melting down the Scythe, it's far too dangerous to have it around and far too tempting for some coward to pick up where the First left off. It can drain power from a Slayer and be used to active Potentials. The human race doesn't and never did need the Slayer. We could take Mastodons down with wooden spears, we can wipe out vampires and demons. Ironically the Global War can actually be used to help with that."
"How so?"
"In order to investigate the Watchers Council bombing as a terrorist attack we had to reveal certain information to the English government, in response they're establishing their own Demon Command. It'll enable them to find and safe guard Potentials and we're quietly informing the rest of our allies as time goes on. We can create a world without vampires, demons and eventually Hellmouths, without destroying the current world."
"Aaron's got Magic people studying the Magic that marks Potentials and what makes me a Slayer, he says eventually they'll figure out how to undo it. What do I then, if I'm no longer a Slayer?"
"You start boot camp next week. I'm going to make sure you have all the training you could ever need to survive being the Slayer, including protections and an equally well trained team to back you up. Once the Magic people figure out how to undo being the Slayer permanently, maybe you'll find that you've got a home in the Army, like Corporal Harris has."
"A home, haven't had one of those since Diana, my Watcher, was killed by Kakistos. She cared."
"So do I."
"Feels nice. The Mayor cared, even if he was an insane, I want to be a giant demon snake and rule the world, warlock. Good to know you're not."
"Just a fiercely protective General and father."
"Did your daughters manage to have any boyfriends?"
"A few. Now they're all married, to good men who treat them with love and respect. And are slightly afraid of them and terrified of me."
"Smug bastard."
