{"So this is the end of the line, huh?"}
"It is said that in the final days of planet Earth, everyone had bad dreams. To the west of the north of that world, the human race did gather, in the celebration of a pagan rite to banish the cold and the dark. Each and every one of those people had dreamt of the terrible things to come. But they forgot, because they must. They forgot their nightmares of fire and war and insanity. They forgot. Except for one."
Christmas time.
The Tardis materializes in the snowy landscape, and Theta steps out wearing a stetson and a lei. I follow close behind him, dressed in my normal outfit and a long winter coat. Fay had been dropped off with Martha and Mickey both freshly married. Fay argued a bit, saying she wanted to be with us but I told her that she could join us at the very end. So she could say goodbye to us, these versions at least. Ood Sigma is waiting for us, Theta immediately frowns at the sight of it. "Ah! Now, sorry. There you are. So, where were we? We were summoned, weren't we? An Ood in the snow, calling to us. Well, I didn't exactly come straight here. Had a bit of fun, you know. Travelled about, did this and that. Got into trouble. You know me. It was brilliant. I saw the Phosphorous Carousel of the Great Magellan Gestadt, saved a planet from the Red Carnivorous Maw, named a galaxy Alison. Got married. That was a dream. Spent forty five years with our daughter, she's gotten big. Blonde. Like her mother. God, I love her mother. Kate, I love you. Ahem. Anyway, what do you want?" I shook my head with a small laugh at his rant.
"You should not have delayed." Sigma cocked its head at us as it looked between the two of us. "The last time I was here you said my song would be ending soon, and I'm in no hurry for that." Theta shrugged nonchalantly, "You will come with me." Sigma turned around to walk away. "Hold on. Better lock the Tardis." Theta points a remote key at the Tardis. The door locks and the light flashes at it beeps causing me to shake my head with an eye roll. "See? Like a car. I locked it like a car. Like. It's funny. No? Little bit? Blimey, try to make an Ood laugh. So how old are you now, Ood Sigma? Ah." He sees the Ood city as we make our way over the ridge. "Magnificent. Oh, come on, that is splendid. You've achieved all this in how long?" He turned to Sigma who paused, "One hundred years." It responded back causing Theta and I to nod with a hum. "Then we've got a problem. Because all of this is way too fast. Not just the city, I mean your ability to call me. Reaching all the way back to the twenty first century. Something's accelerating your species way beyond normal."
"And the Mind of the Ood is troubled." Sigma spoke turning to face us and stare us down. "Why, what's happened?" I asked looking at it concerned, "Every night, Doctor, every night we have bad dreams." Theta and I shoot each other a look, Ood didn't dream. They weren't made to dream. We quickly rush after Sigma who had started moving once more. We enter an ice cave, where more Ood were sitting in a circle. "Returning, returning, returning, it is slowly returning through the dark and the fire and the blood. Always returning, returning to this world. It is returning, and he is returning, and they are returning, but too late. Too late. Far too late. He has come." The Elder Ood slowly looked up at us, "Sit with the Elder of the Ood and share the dreaming." Sigma moved around, "So. Right. Hallo." Theta waved awkwardly before he grabbed my hand and moved to sit me down beside him. "You will join. You will join. You will join. You will join. You will join. You will join. You will join."
Theta and I link hands with the Ood and sees the laughing face of our enemy. "Bwahahahahahaha!" Theta yanks his hands away with a gasp as I close my eyes with a sigh. He just wouldn't give up. "He comes to us every night. I think all the peoples of the universe dream of him now." The Elder Ood explains, "That man is dead." Theta growled out with a glare, "There is yet more. Join us. Events are taking shape. So many years ago, and yet changing the now. There is a man..." The Elder Ood stopped as they grabbed for our hands again. "Bwahahahahahaha!" We flinch, at the sound and the sight of Wilfred, "So scared." The Elder Ood speaks, "Wilfred. Is he all right? What about Donna, is she safe?" Theta growled out as he glared at them, his eyes filled with worry. "You should not have delayed, for the lines of convergence are being drawn across the Earth. Even now, the king is in his Counting house."
We are given images of a black man and his daughter being photographed.
"I don't know who they are." Theta frowned as he looked towards me, I shook my head in response. "And there is another. The most lonely of all, lost and forgotten." A woman in a cage, "The Master's wife." I grunted out slightly with a frown. "We see so much, but understand little. The woman in the cage, who is she?" The Elder asked as it looked between us. "She was. It wasn't her fault, she was. The Master, he's a Time Lord, like me. I can show you." Theta shows the Ood images from Last of the Time Lords. "The Master took the name of Saxon. He married a human, a woman called Lucy. And he corrupted her. She stood at his side while he conquered the Earth. I reversed everything he'd done so it never even happened, but Lucy Saxon remembered. I held him in my arms. I burnt his body. The Master is dead."
"And yet, you did not see."
"What's that?"
"Bwahahahahahaha!"
A woman picking up the Master's signet ring, we both opened ours as I groaned in annoyance. "Part of him survived. I have to go!" Theta pulls me up after he jumps up. The Ood stand up as well to watch us, "But something more is happening, Doctor. The Master is part of a greater design, because a shadow is falling over creation. Something vast is stirring in the dark. The Ood have gained this power to see through time, because time is bleeding. Shapes of things once lost are moving through the veil, and these events from years ago threaten to destroy this future, and the present, and the past." The Elder had closed its eyes, "What do you mean?" I asked the Elder, "This is what we have seen, Doctor. Kate. The darkness heralds only one thing." The Elder told us as it turned to look at us. "The end of time itself." The Ood spoke together causing our eyes to widen, "Bwahahahahahaha!" Theta grabs my hand and runs outside back to the Tardis. "Events that have happened are happening now."
Theta and I take off towards the Tardis, running through the snow at our fastest pace. This was bad. Theta slams into the door, opening it allowing me to rush in right after him before he slammed the door shut. The two of us running towards the console and putting it in flight. While the Tardis is in flight, Lucy Saxon is taken from her cell and escorted by women Prison Officers. to meet a another woman.
She holds out the Master's signet ring. Lucy gasps. Meanwhile, Wilf is looking out at the kitchen window at the storm while the Woman in White briefly appears on the TV screen in the other room. The signet ring is put into a bowl and blue liquids are poured over it. She then takes a print of Lucy's lips and drops the imprint into the bowl and there is a big flash, then a light beams up and out of Broadfell Prison into the sky. Energy is pulled out of the Governor and her acolytes. The figure of the naked Master begins to appear in the column of light. Lucy takes a small vial from a prison officer who was not an acolyte. Lucy throws the vial at the Master and there is an explosion.
Theta and I run out of the Tardis to see the ruined shell of Broadfell Prison. We were too late.
A little later, Theta and I stand on a small cliff, he sniffs deeply. The Master does the same, then picks up an iron bar and starts hitting an oil drum in a rhythm of four beats and a rest. We hear it and take off running through the piles of girders on the dockside until we see the Master up against the skyline. The Master does his Incredible Hulk impression then leaps into the air. We soon give chase causing me to groan in annoyance. What's with the game of Cat and Mouse? The Master waits for us on a pile of girders, and his skeleton briefly flashes, I raise an eyebrow at the sight. That wasn't good. "Please, let me help. You're burning up your own life force." He growls at the sight of me before he takes off running again with us trailing behind him. We suddenly skid to a stop when Wilf appears in the our way, with a group of old folks behind him. "Oh, my gosh, Doctor. You're a sight for sore eyes."
"Out of my way!" But the Master is nowhere to be seen. "Did we do it? Is that them?" A woman asked from the back of the group. "Tall and thin, big brown coat. Blonde and tiny, red jacket." I huffed slightly at the insulting description. "The Silver Cloak. It worked. Because Wilf phoned Netty, who phoned June, and her sister lives opposite Broadfell, and she saw the police box, and her neighbour saw this man heading east." Theta finally turned to face the group were Wilf stood in lead. "Wilfred?" Theta asked as he moved towards us, grabbing my hand. "Yeah?" Wilf asked as he looked between us, Theta leaned down to whisper at Wilf. "Have you told them who we are? You promised me." Theta grunted out towards Wilf who shrugged. "No, I just said you were a doctor, that's all. And might I say, sir, it is an honour to see you again." Wilf salutes.
"Oh, but you never said he was a looker. He's gorgeous. Take a photo." An old lady cooed as she bumped her friend causing me to snort at Theta's awkward look. "Not bad, eh? Me next." Another woman smiled up at him, "I'm Minnie. Minnie the Menace. It's a long time since I had a photo with a handsome man." I raised an eyebrow with a small laugh as Wilf huffed with a shake of his head. "Just get off him. Leave him alone, will you?" Wilf pushes the ladies off my husband causing me to let out another small chuckle. "Hush, you old misery. Come on, Doctor. Give us a smile. That's it." Everyone crowds around him to take a picture, "Hold on. Did it flash?" The old man who was taking the picture asked with a confused frown. "No, there's a blue light. Try again." Minnie uttered out, "I'm all fingers and thumbs." Wilf sighs as he shakes his head. I slowly grabbed the phone from the old man who nodded in thanks before stepping into the picture himself.
"I'm really kind of busy, you know." Theta gives me a pointed look as I stick my tongue out at him teasingly, "Oh, it wont take a tick. Keep smiling." Minnie gives the Doctor's bottom a squeeze, just as I take the picture. "Is that your hand, Minnie?" Theta yelps in terror as he quickly moved away, she smirked as he came to hide behind me. "Good boy." I muttered as I gave him a pat on the chest. He sighed as he dropped his head on my shoulder when Minnie came to grab the phone from me.
The minibus drops the two of us and Wilf off. "Come on, then. Here we are, hurry up. Bye. You behave, bye." The minibus drives off with the rest of the Silver Cloak residents. "Over here, come on." Wilf grabs my hand and pulls me forward which causes Theta to groan and reluctantly follow in pursuit. I knew he wanted to save him, and I loved that about Theta but I hated The Master. He and I have been enemies since we were kids, so I wasn't as much of in a hurry as Theta. Sue me. "What's so special about this place? We passed fifteen cafes on the way." Theta asked as we entered a small Christmas theme cafe, I smacked his arm causing him to huff back with an eye roll. "Yeah. Afternoon." Wilf greets people with a smile before leading us to a table in the back corner to sit down. "Oh, we had some good times, didn't we though? I mean, all those ATMOS things, and planets in the sky, and me with that paint gun. I keep seeing things, Doctor. This face at night."
"Who are you?"
"I'm Wilfred Mott."
"No. People have waited hundreds of years to find me and then you manage it in a few hours."
"Well, I'm just lucky I suppose."
"No, we keep on meeting, Wilf. Over and over again like something's still connecting us."
"What's so important about me?"
"Exactly. Why you? I'm going to die." I sighed with an eye roll as I looked away, Theta was always so dramatic. "Well, so am I, one day." Wilf huffed as he shrugged, "Don't you dare." Theta and I warned together causing him to laugh. "All right, I'll try not to." He smiled between us, "But I was told. He will knock four times. That was the prophecy. Knock four times, and then..."
"Yeah, but I thought, when I saw you before, you said your people could change, like, your whole body." Wilf frowned in confusion, "I can still die. If I'm killed before regeneration, then I'm dead. Even then, even if I change, it feels like dying. Everything I am dies. Some new man goes sauntering away, and I'm dead. What?" Wilf has spotted Donna outside in the street getting out of her car. "I'm sorry, but I had to. Look, can't you make her better?" Theta's eyes darkened as he frowned, "Stop it." Theta snarls in anger. "No, but you're so clever. Can't you bring her memory back? Look, just go to her now. Go on, just run across the street. Go up and say hello." I cocked my head as I watched them, watched her. Theta just shook his head, "If she ever remembers me, her mind will burn, and she will die." They hear Donna speak to the traffic warden.
"Don't you touch this car." She snarls at the traffic warden causing Theta and I to chuckle. "She's not changed." Theta huffed out with a shake of his head and a smile. "Nah. Oh, there he is." A Mickey Smith lookalike meets Donna causing me to raise an eyebrow and snort lightly. Even though they only met once, they have the same taste in men. "Shaun Temple. They're engaged. Getting married in the spring." Wilf explains to us, "Another wedding." Theta smiled as he bumped my shoulder gently giving me a small smile. "Yeah." Wilf uttered out, only to look confused at his own response. "Hold on, she's not going to be called Noble-Temple? That sounds like a tourist spot." Theta grumbled causing me to smack his shoulder. "No, it's Temple-Noble." Wilf confirmed causing me to laugh at Theta's face. "Right. Is she happy? Is he nice?"
"Yeah, he's sweet enough. He's a bit of a dreamer. Mind you, he's on minimum wage, she's earning tuppence, so all they can afford is a tiny little flat. And then sometimes I see this look on her face, like she's so sad, but she can't remember why." We continued to sadly watch him, "She's got him." Theta pointed out, "She's making do." Wilf shrugged back with a small sigh, "Aren't we all?" I muttered lowly. "Yeah, how about you? Who have you got now?" Theta and I shrugged together in our own sadness. "No one. Travelling alone. I thought it was better. But I did some things. It went wrong. I need..." Theta starts crying, causing me to whimper slightly at the sight. I grabbed his hand, "Oh, my word. I'm sorry." Wilf utters out as he looks sadly between us. "Merry Christmas." Theta breathed out, "Yeah, and you." Wilf sadly started to tear up as well as he frowned. "Look at us." I laughed off bitterly, "But don't you see? You know, you need her, Doctor. I mean, look. Wouldn't she make you laugh again? Good old Donna?" Donna and Shaun drive away, "Eh?"
"And so it came to pass that the players took their final places, making ready the events that were to come. The madman sat in his empire of dust and ashes, little knowing of the glory he would achieve. While his saviour looked upon the wilderness, in the hope of changing his inevitable fate. His death, watched over the savior, hoping to help the world. Far away, the idiots and fools dreamt of a shining new future. A future now doomed to never happen. As Earth rolled onwards into night, the people of that world did sleep, and shiver, somehow knowing that dawn would bring only one thing. The final day."
It was now night and we had ended up in an abandoned warehouse district. Theta and I walk towards the Master, who fires bolts of energy at us from his hands. He misses, and sets fires burning behind us. The third try hits Theta squarely in the chest, but he keeps moving forward. My eyes glowing as I shielded him, finally the energy stops and Theta stops. I grunt slightly as I grow light headed, it was strange how much power that took out of me. Theta catches me as I fall, The Master stands in front of us, before slowly bending down to face us with a smirk. "I had estates. Do you remember my father's land back home? Pastures of red grass, stretching far across the slopes of Mount Perdition. We used to run across those fields all day, calling up at the sky. Look at us now." He hissed towards me with a glare causing me to growl back in anger, my eyes flashing. "All that eloquence. But how many people have you killed?" I snarled back as I pushed him. He growls as he rolled his shoulders and popped his neck, "I am so hungry." He groaned out, "Your resurrection went wrong. That energy. Your body's ripped open. Now you're killing yourself." Theta explained to him, "That human Christmas out there. They eat so much. All that roasting meat, cakes and red wine. Hot, fat, blood, food. Pots, plates of meat, and flesh, and grease, and juice, and baking, burnt, sticky hot skin. Hot. It's so hot."
"Stop it."
"Sliced. Sliced. Sliced."
"Stop it."
"It's mine. It's mine. It's mine to eat and eat and eat."
"Stop it. What if I ask you for help? There's more at work tonight than you and me."
"Oh yeah?" He smirked looking between as as we all stood together. "I've been told something is returning." Theta hinted towards him, "And here I am." He laughed with a smirk as he spread his arms apart. "No, something more." I told him, "But it hurts." The Master whimpered dramatically, "Maybe I just need to punch you in the face." I growled out as I went for him only to be held back by Theta. "We were told the end of time." Theta finished my sentence from before, since The Master had interrupted me. "It hurts. Doctor, the noise. The noise in my head, Doctor. One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. Stronger than ever before. Can't you hear it?" He went to grab Theta who kept shaking his head. "I'm sorry." Theta breathed out with a sad sigh. "Listen, listen, listen, listen. Every minute, every second, every beat of my hearts, there it is, calling to me. Please listen." He grabbed for Theta who shook his head in response, "I can't hear it and neither can Kate, you know she would if it was real." Theta tried to gently explain but The Master shook his head with a glare. "Listen."
The Master mind-melds with him,
Theta hears the beats and pulls away. "What?" Master asked with an angry frown, "But." Theta paused looking confused, "What!" Master snapped, "I heard it. But there's no noise." Theta paused as I stepped up, "There never has been. It's just your insanity. You were made to believe it was something, the council did it when we were young but I only found out recently. What is it? What's inside your head?" He glared at me with hatred in his eyes. "It's real. It's real. It's real!" The Master shouts shooting me in the stomach before he flies off, Theta shouts in shock as he catches me. "Baby, easy. Why didn't you shield?" He whimpered as he shook his head, I winced in pain. "Because it's time." I breathed out causing him to suck in a breath, he shakes his head as I chuckled lowly. "It's ok, I'll regenerate and find you. Go. You can't let him get away." He clenched his teeth, the last thing he wanted was to leave me in this state but I knew he had too. Giving me a kiss on the head, "I love you." He whispered causing me to chuckle, "I love you too. Now go." I pushed him off me as I started, he watched me for another second before he took off after the Master.
Watching him disappear as I regenerated seemed to change something. I had told him to go, so I wasn't mad but something still changed. I could feel a chill run down my spin as I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. Letting the regeneration rush over me, I breathed out his name upon these lips one last time.
Something did change that day, something that even I couldn't see coming.
I just didn't know what it was until it was to late.
Momma!
My eyes shot open and I gasped as I shot up into a sitting position. Quickly getting up, I took off not bothering to check out how I looked. I didn't have the time to right now anyway.
"All these years, you thought I was mad. King of the wasteland. But something is calling me, Doctor. What is it? What is it? What is it?" A bright light shines down on the Master, then a second one illuminates the Doctor. A pair of SAS types come down on ropes, grab the Master and inject him with something to knock him out. "Don't!" Others fire their guns at The Doctor to make him stay back, and the Master is hoisted up into the helicopter. The Doctor runs, "Let him go!" The Doctor is shot in the back, after a few minutes he wakes up to my shouting, "Theta!" He looked up at me with wide eyes, "Nora?"
I help him up and we head towards the Tardis, he was frowning the whole time and going back and forth between looking at me to the ground. I stop and sigh, "What is it? Do you not like this version of me?" I asked him as I wrapped my arms around myself. "No! And I'm sorry I left you behind. I love you, Nora and that will never change no matter what regeneration. I just.." He paused looking away and rubbing the back of his head. "You what?" I asked, "I'm jealous." I frowned in complete confusion, "Of what?! That I'm a girl?" I help in confusion, what the hell was he so jealous about?!
"You're ginger again!" I pause staring at him for a minute before walking away, "Hey!" He shouts causing me to pause, I stand still for a moment before I burst out laughing as I walk back over to help him onwards.
"Stop laughing at me."
Wilf goes to his bedroom and pulls an old suitcase out from under his bed. In a box, wrapped in a piece of cloth, is his old service revolver. Something is thrown against his window. Wilf looks out to see the Doctor and Kate outside of their Tardis, gesturing for him to come outside.
Theta rushed forward as Wilf rushed out the door. "I lost him. I was unconscious. He's still on Earth, I can smell him, but he's too far away." Theta growls in anger as he runs his hand through his hair. "Listen, you can't park there. What if Donna sees it?" Wilf looked between us causing me to slightly scoff. He was just telling us yesterday that we should help her, get her memory back. "You're the only one, Wilf. The only connection I can think of. You're involved, if I could work out how. Tell me, have you seen anything? I don't know. Anything strange, anything odd?" Theta cocked his head to the side as I crossed my arms. "Well, there was a..." He paused looking away with a frown causing me to step froward. "What? What is it? Tell us." I demanded, he paused staring at me for a moment before blinking. "Kate?" I quickly nodded, right forgot for a second. "Well, it was. No, it's nothing." He uttered out shaking his head, "Think-a think-a think. Maybe something out of the blue. Something connected to your life. Something."
"Well, Donna was a bit strange. She had a funny little moment, this morning, all because of that book." I frowned cocking my head, "What book?" I asked watching him. "His name's Joshua Naismith." Wilf shows the book to us, "That's the man. I was shown him by the Ood." Theta explained causing me to sigh at the cover. "By the what?" Wilf answered with a frown, "By the Ood." I repeated again, "What's the Ood?" Wilf questioned once more, "They're just the Ood. But it's all part of the convergence. Maybe? It may be touching Donna's subconscious. Oh, she's still fighting for us, even now. The Queen of Doctor Donna." Theta breathed out as their front door opened. "Dad, what are you up to? You. But. Get out of here." She scoffed at Theta, frowning at me in confusion before turning her attention back to him. "Merry Christmas."
"Merry Christmas. But she can't see you. What if she remembers?"
"Mum, where are those tweezers?"
"Go."
"I'm going."
"Yeah, me too."
"Oh no, you don't."
"Mum? Gramps?" We vaguely hear Donna in the back ground causing Sylvia to grab Wilf. "Dad, I'm warning you." She hissed, "Bye, see you later." He waves at her with a small grin. "Bit old for hide and seek." Donna yelled out as we moved towards the Tardis. "Stay right where you are." Sylvia hissed angrily, "You can't come with us." Theta told him gently, "You're not leaving me with her." Wilf scoffed as he pointed towards his daughter causing me to snort. "Dad!" Sylvia shouted out in shock and offense. "Fair enough." I uttered out as Theta nodded with a small smile. "Mum?" We hear Donna once more before we enter the TARDIS. "Just you listen to me. I forbid it. Get out of there!" The Tardis dematerializes, "Doctor, bring my father back right now! Come back here! Come back here, I said! Come back!"
"Are you shouting at thin air?"
"Yes. Possibly, yes."
"Naismith. If I can track him down. Ah. Right. Yes. Bigger on the inside. Do you like it?" Theta runs around the console with a smile before coming to stop in front of Wilf who was frowning as he looked around. "I thought it'd be cleaner." He shrugged causing Theta to huff and pout. "Cleaner? I could take you back home right now." He pointed at the old man, I chuckle with a shake of my head. "Listen, Doctor, if this is a time machine, that man you're chasing, why can't you just pop back to yesterday and catch him?" Wilf asked looking between us, "We can't go back inside our own timeline. We have to stay relative to the Master within the causal nexus. Understand?" I uttered out staring at him with a raised eyebrow. "Not a word." He fake zipped his lips causing me to nod with a smile. "Welcome aboard." I uttered out before heading towards the wardrobe to change out of my outfit. "Thank you." He shouted back from behind me.
"We've moved. We've really moved!" Wilf laughed as we stepped out of the Tardis. "You should stay here." I uttered out causing him to shake his head. "Not bloody likely." Wilf shakes his head with a raised eyebrow, "And don't swear. Hold on." Theta points the key at the Tardis, which disappears. "Just a second out of sync. Don't want the Master finding the Tardis. That's the last thing we need." We sneak across the grounds, barley managing to hide from a patrol. "That book said he's a billionaire. He's got his own private army." Wilf informed us as we continued around the grounds. "Down here." Theta opens a small door in an archway.
We walk down a hallway towards a room where a woman was talking to herself. "The man's a miracle. All the systems are slotting back into place. The shatterthreads have harmonised, the fibre links intensified and the multiple overshots have triplicated." Theta spins around the edge of the doorway to smile at the woman. "Nice Gate." Theta teases, "Hello. Sorry." Wilf awkwardly waved as I crossed my arms. "Don't try calling security, or I'll tell them you're wearing a Shimmer. Because I reckon anyone wearing a Shimmer doesn't want the Shimmer to be noticed, or they wouldn't need a Shimmer in the first place." I smirked smugly at her shocked face, "I'm sorry? What's a Shimmer?" Theta points his sonic screwdriver at her, "Shimmer." He clicks his tongue with a smug smirk as she turns green.
"Oh, my Lord. She's a cactus."
"He's got it working, but what is it? What's working?" A man suddenly rushes into the room with wide eyes, "What are you doing here?" Without turning around, Theta points the screwdriver at Rossiter. "Shimmer!" I let out a snort as I jumped to sit on the desk as he too turns green. "Now, tell me quickly, what's going on? The Master, Harold Saxon, Skeletor, whatever you're calling him, what's he doing up there?" Theta asked as he turned to face the man, his smart specs on as he moves around the room. The computer beeps, Theta rushing over to it as the green man looked between us in confusion. "But I checked the readings. He's done good work. It's operational." I scoffed with an eye roll. "Who are you, though? 'Cause I met someone like you. He was brilliant, but he was little and red."
"No, that's a Zocci." The woman explains with a scoff, "We're not Zocci, we're Vinvocci. Completely different." The man continued, "And the Gate is Vinvocci. We're a salvage team. We picked up the signal when the humans reactivated it. And as soon as it's working, we can transport it to the ship." She finished off for him as I went back and forth with them. "But what does it do?" I asked cocking my head to the side, "Well, it mends. It's a simple as that. It's a medical device to repair the body. It makes people better." He explained to me, "No, there's got to be more. Every single warning says the Master's going to do something colossal." Theta muttered out as he shook his head. "So that thing's like a sickbed, yes?" I pointed out causing the green man to nod in response. "More or less." He shrugged, "Well, pardon me for asking, but why is it so big?" Wilf frowned, "Oh, good question. Why's it so big?"
"It doesn't just mend one person at a time."
"That would be ridiculous."
"It mends whole planets."
"It does what?"
"It transmits the medical template across the entire population."
Theta takes off running through the corridors, my eyes widening as I took off after him. We enter a room, where The Master was already smirking at us. "Turn the Gate off right now!" I shout in demand as a man turns to us, "At arms!" Theta immediately moves in front of me with wide eyes. "No, no, no, no, no. Whatever you do, just don't let him near that device." Theta warns but it was too late. It's always too late when Theta tries to save The Master. "Oh, like that was ever going to happen." The Master throws off the strait jacket and leaps over their heads on pillars of energy from his hands, into the Gate. "Homeless, was I? Destitute and dying? Well, look at me now." He smiles evilly as he makes eye contact with me. "Deactivate it. All of you, turn the whole thing off!" I demand in anger as I break eye contact from the monster. He starts laughing maniacally, "He's inside my head." A woman shouts as she clutches her head. "Get out of there!" The Master's blast of energy knocks us on our asses.
"Doctor! Doctor, there's, there's this face." We both turn to face Wilf who was backing away, "What is it? What can you see?" I asked him as I moved closer to the old man. "Well, it's him. I can see him." Wilf cries out with horror and worried upon his face. "There's something wrong. It seems to be affecting the President." The President of the United States has his face in his hands. Theta goes to the computer and tries to shut down the Gate. "I can't turn it off." Theta shouts turning to look at me with wide eyes. "That's because I locked it, idiot." The Master snips in sarcasm as he rolls his eyes dramatically at Theta. "Wilfred! Get inside. Get him out." Theta and I enter one of a pair of glass sided cubicles, and Wilfred swaps places with a technician in the other. "Just need to filter the levels."
"Oh, I can see again! He's gone." Wilf laughs as he spins around slightly. "Radiation shielding. Now press the button. Let us out." I tell him gently as he frowns at us, "You what?" He cocked his head as I sigh, I knew this would be the issue in the future. Wilf would be the one to knock, looking towards Theta I watch as he looks back at me with a confused look. "We can't get out until you press the button. That button there." I speak up, ignoring him as I turned back to Wilf who presses the button. Wilf's cubicle is now locked and the ours is now open. "Fifty seconds and counting." The Master speaks up, "To what?" Theta asks as we step out. "Oh, you're going to love this." Wilf's phone rings. He pulls the revolver out of his pocket instead. "Hello? Oh, Gawd. Donna?"
"Where are you? It's Mum and Shaun. Something's wrong with them."
"There's this face."
"But wait a minute. I mean, what about you? Can't you see anything?"
"I can see them. That's bad enough." Wilf's phone beeps for a call waiting, he switches it over. "Not now, Winston." He snaps in anger, "Wilfred.
Those dreams. I can remember that face. There's a face in my head. Wilfred, it's everyone!" Wilf looks towards us as he hangs up, switching back over to Donna who is also still panicking. "What is it, hypnotism? Mind control. You're grafting your thoughts inside them, is that it?" Theta growls in anger as stares his 'friend' down. "Oh, that's way too easy. No, no, no. They're not going to think like me, they're going to become me. And, zero!" A blast of energy moves out from the Master and the Gate, and spreads across the entire planet. Everyone's face becomes blurred except for Donna and Wilf, and us of course. "You can't have." Theta breaths out in shock and horror, "What is it?" Wilf asked just as panicked as us. "But they've changed." Sylvia and Shaun are now both the Master. "Granddad, that's like, like the sort of thing that happened before." Donna remembers enemies from her adventures. "My head. Oh, my head! Oh, my head!"
"Kate, Doctor? She's starting to remember." Everyone's face resolves into the Master's. "What is it? What have you done, you monster?" Wilf growls out in horror and anger, "Oh, I'm sorry, are you talking to me? Or to me? Or to me? Or to me? Or to us? Breaking news. I'm everyone. And everyone in the world is me! I'm President. President of the United States. Look at me!" The audience of Master's applauds him. "Ooo, financial solution. Deleted. Ha ha! The human race was always your favourite, Doctor, Princess. But now, there is no human race. There is only the Master race. Bwahahahahahaha!"
"And so it came to pass, on Christmas Day, that the human race did cease to exist. But even then, the Master had no concept of his greater role in events. For this was far more than humanity's end. This day was the day upon which the whole of creation would change forever. This was the day the Time Lords returned. For Gallifrey."
"For Gallifrey!"
"For victory!"
"For victory!"
"For the end of time itself!"
"For the end of time itself!"
