It's like a switch flips. After weeks of being ill, Alicia wakes up one day and instead of needing to carefully move to the bathroom, she feels... hungry. Instead of leaning against the toilet at the first smell of food, she instead brushes her teeth and then heads into the kitchen to press kisses to Ricardo's lips, grinning at him.
"Someone's in a good mood," he says softly, curling an arm around her waist. "You sleep well?" He strokes lightly at the soft swell of her stomach and smiles up at her.
"Really well," she says, tilting his face up and kissing him deeply. "Ricardo, Sofia's not made breakfast yet, has she?"
"Hm," he shakes his head. "No, she's in with Andre at the moment... why?" He tickles her a little. "Is madre hungry?"
"Madre's starved," she sighs, grinning into his jaw. "Knock on wood but I think the morning sickness is going away."
He shifts his hold on her and eases her to sit in his lap, kissing her shoulder. "I'm glad to hear it," he says softly. "I hate when you're sick and there's nothing I can do to help you."
"You just being here helps," she says softly, squeezing his fingers. "I love you, Ricardo."
"I love you more, Alicia," he sighs. "Here." He reaches over and gets her a slice of bread smothered in jelly and she gasps, chewing it down quickly. "Good?"
"Yes," she sighs. "So good." He kisses her skin again and she hums happily. "Did I hear you say something to Sofia about a picnic?"
"You did," he says. "Soon as you're sure you're good for al sorts of yummy foods again, we'll take you and Andre up there and spend the day. How's that sound?"
"Amazing," she says, smiling as she leans into him, resting their laced together hands over her stomach. "Can you believe there'll be two of these little ones soon?"
"Not really," he admits, nuzzling into her. "But I'm glad we're giving Andre a sibling. I wouldn't know where I'd be without my little sister."
Alicia hums. "Same," she sighs. "Annoys the hell out of me sometimes, but I'd be lost without her."
"That's just the little sibling way," Ricardo chuckles. "Wouldn't be natural if they didn't torture their older sibling."
"Very true," she sighs, lifting his hands and kissing his palms.
They're still sitting there when Sofia returns, bouncing a chattering Andre on her hip. Her eyes lip when she sees Alicia, pausing long enough to pass the baby over to her. "How are you feeling, Alicia?" she asks.
"Better, thanks," Alicia hums, kissing Andre on the cheek and smiling when he waves his pudgy hands and feet around.
"No morning sickness?" she asks, heading for the fridge.
"Not so far," Alicia sighs. "Actually, I'm really... reaaaaaaally hungry."
Sofia smiles at her. "Well, I can definitely help with that. Pancakes?"
"God yes," Alicia sighs, all but leaning over the table to reach for her. "Gimme, gimme."
Sofia laughs. "As soon as they're cooked, mi hija." A few seconds pass before they exchange glances, and Sofia winces, moving away from the stove. "Alicia-"
Alicia sniffs, wiping at her eyes. "Is that... the first time you've called me that...?"
"Si, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to overstep-"
Alicia shakes her head wildly. "I liked it," she breathes out. "Things are always so complicated with my own family, I... you two, and Andre," she says, "have made me feel more at home than they ever did..."
Sofia clucks softly, and cradles Alicia's face in her hands, wiping her tears away with gentle fingers. "I would be honored to have you as a daughter, Alicia. If you're sure it's not overstepping..."
"Please," Alicia breathes, resting her forehead against Sofia's. "I love the thought of being your daughter. Call me that as often as you'd like."
Sofia smiles at her tenderly. "Of course. Si, it- it would be my pleasure."
Ricardo leans against Alicia's shoulder and smiles at the two best women in his life, kissing Alicia's cheek gently. "Sofia," he says softly, waiting until she glances over at him. "Sorry to interrupt, but the pancakes..."
"Oh!" Sofia begins mumbling in Spanish and pats Alicia's face before gently pulling away and hurriedly whipping food together for all of them.
Ricardo strokes Alicia's stomach and kisses her again. "You good?"
"Yeah," she sighs. "Hormones, I think." Turning in his lap, she kisses him properly and smiles. "I love the life you've introduced me to."
He smiles at her. "Feeling's mutual, Foxy. My life would be so empty if you hadn't given me a chance all of those years ago." Leaving one hand on her stomach, he strokes Andre's baby-soft cheek with the other and chuckles softly. "I love you so damn much."
"I love you just as much, if not more," she says, kissing him tenderly.
He smiles at her, content to sit here and continue cuddling his family while they wait for Sofia to serve the buttery, hot pancakes with lots of syrup and fruit, quietly discussing the picnic to come.
