"You ready for this?" Alicia murmurs, resting a hand on Ricardo's cheek. He nods, staring into her eyes. "I'm not sure I am."

He laughs a little and leans in, kissing her palm. "You? My strong girl, who went into labor on her own during a pandemic and birthed us a beautiful little boy? I don't believe you."

She rolls her eyes and quirks an eyebrow at him. "What can I say," she says dryly. "Your children are always an adventure. I'm curious to see what this one brings me, long term."

"So you're telling me after the morning sickness and everything else, the real adventure begins?"

"Yes," she tells him. "That's when the kicking and hiccups begin and I can feel every little flutter. And this one feels bigger than Andre." She glances down at herself. "Do I seem like I'm really carrying this one heavier? I swear..."

Ricardo frowns and trails a hand down her stomach. "I don't know," he says. "You're beautiful to me either way."

"Oh, good answer," she says. "I don't believe you, but still. Very smart."

"Now would I truly lie to you?" he asks, trailing his hand down her stomach and cringing when he feels a solid kick against his palm. "Whoa, ok, that was a really strong one."

"Right?" Alicia giggles into his mouth, kissing him lazily, when the doctor knocks on the door and peeks in.

"Alright to come in?" she asks, smiling.

"Yes," Alicia calls back and Ricardo twists around in his chair to face her as she walks in. "Good to see you again, Dr. Miller," she says.

"Good to see you both as well," she responds with a kind smile. "Are we ready to see this little one?"

"Yes, we are," Alicia says, shifting to make herself more comfortable before Dr. Miller swoops in with her wand and begins smearing gel over her stomach. Ricardo gently slides his hand in hers and Alicia smiles over at him, squeezing lightly as the machine whirs to life.

"Right about here," the doctor hums, peering closely to the monitor. She stares at it for a long, pensive moment, and Alicia glances over at Ricardo, worry filling her eyes.

"Doctor?" she asks shakily. "Is... is there something wrong?"

Doctor Miller exhales and looks over, lips twitching up into a small smile. "Well, to me, no, not really, but only you can truly answer that question." She turns and shifts the monitor to aim towards them. "So here's your baby." She circles it with her finger. "But," she says, resting a second finger against a different, similar looking spot on the screen. "This is also your baby."

Ricardo looks confused as Alicia stares, realization dawning. "Twins...? We're... having twins?"

"Yes," Dr. Miller confirms. "You are having twins. The best I can guess, when we did the first ultrasound, baby #2 was hiding behind the first, so we couldn't detect it. It doesn't happen too often, but sometimes."

"Just as long as you can tell me there's not another baby or two hiding in there," Alicia says with a faint laugh.

"I'm not going to make any promises," Dr. Miller teases. "But yes, as far as it looks, there are twins just waiting in here to meet their mommy and daddy in a couple of months."

She excuses herself to print the ultrasounds out, and give them a few minutes.

Ricardo sits for a long, quiet moment, gazing ahead. "Twins," he says blankly. "Twins. Oh my god, we're going to have three children."

"Yes," Alicia says with a faint laugh. "Are you ok?"

"I am," he says, coming back to himself and looking over at her in awe. "You... you're so gorgeous, you know that, right?"

"Wow, double the babies, and the compliment grows in strength," she grins. "What would you have called me if the doctor said I was carrying sextuplets?"

"I would've said you were indescribable," he says, leaning in to kiss her again, his hand teasing over her stomach. "Let's get that ultrasound and go home, and I'll show you."

She hums, and sighs softly into his mouth. "Yes, let's."
