Changes Part 1: Rumble in the Jungle
The X-Men evolution theme from unseen speakers began playing as 61394 appeared in a poof of smoke. "Hello, Ghosts of Bayville readers, I'm here in a cameo position." 61394 announced with a grin.
"You were here in the last chapter." Deadpool states.
"I was," 61394 asked, snapping his fingers, stopping the music.
"So that's what you did Florpflap from Ryan Georges astronaut segments." Deadpool said in surprise.
61394 leaned over to guardian1989 when the latter glanced at the former. "Don't start a prank war with beings older than the known universe they always win."
"Yeah, well, I was expecting you to show up again, number boy, to shoot me with that despicable dart gun, so I brought back...uuuuuhhhhhh..." Deadpool slurred before he fell face first onto his stomach unconscious behind him were the Warners holding the tranq gun
"I sang a song about every song in the dictionary, but I don't know what a back-uhhhhhhhhhh... is." Wakko said before tossing the dart gun back to 61394
"Thank you."
"Pleasure doing business with you, number boy." Yakko said, "So long as you keep up your end of the bargain."
"I will, Yakko." 61394 said.
Dot zipped over to him, holding out a contract
"Sign here, here, and here." Dot pointed as 61394 signed his name
"We're good."
"Great! Come on, sibs, let's get out of here if we stay too long in a Disney owned property. I might get mistaken for Mickey Mouse again by the President of Warner bros." Yakko said, looking to the audience. "True story, look it up."
The Warners zipped off while guardian1989 looked to 61394.
"I promised them some cameos where they could mess with Vlad," the chaotic author explained, "but enough of this," 61394 said, stepping over Wade sitting in a theater chair.
"You know, you just saved me time on using something special on the nuisance there." guardian1989 states while pointing to an unconscious Deadpool.
"On with Danny and Rogue romantic shenanigans!"
It was the first day of spring. The weather was becoming more pleasantly warm in the city. At the entrance of the Xavier Institute, Sam had her lunchbox and backpack with her before Jean answered the door.
"Morning, Sam." Jean greets before stepping aside. "Come on in."
"Thanks." Sam said in gratitude before stepping in. "Have you seen Danny?"
"He should be in the kitchen with everyone else." Jean said in response.
Inside said kitchen, Danny was the only one who had a winter coat on and was shivering profusely, while everyone else seemed to be fine.
"You okay, Spooky?" Logan asks.
"I don't know. Ever since I got up this morning, I can't seem to get warm." Danny answered as he spread his arms in a shrug.
Unfortunately, Tucker, who was also there for a small visit, was near him before he started shivering.
"Damn. I've heard of ghosts sending shivers down your spine, but this is too weird." he comments.
"Do you want to stay home?" Professor Xavier offers in concern.
"No thanks." Danny replies. "I'll bet I'm just coming down with a slight bug."
"Danny, perhaps it is best if you stay home until you get better." Maddie suggests.
"I'll be fine." Danny said. "R-r-r-really."
Suddenly, a fly buzzed around in the kitchen before it zipped to the ceiling when everybody tried to shoo it away. Unfortunately for the pesky insect, it flew right into a spider web as it got stuck before the arachnid rushed in and began to wrap it up in a shroud of spider silk before biting it.
"Awesome! A bug that hates veggies as much as I do!" Tucker comments.
"Hey, at least that spider is going to have a healthy breakfast today." Sam comments.
"All right! Get your asses in gear and get to school now!" Logan barks.
Not needing to be told twice, all who have school to attend left the building.
However, no one, not even Danny, noticed that a trail of pale blue energy seeped from his body before it surrounded a nearby flower pot, freezing it solid.
Outside, as everyone headed to Bayville High, a park that had nothing but trees, flowers, and grassland was being torn down by construction crews and vehicles. Apparently, the city's new mayor, Vlad planned to build a new kind of mall that will rival Bayville Mall after finishing construction of the Nasty Burger, much to the joy and delight of those who are native to Amity Park, including Tucker. In short, the Gut Bomb had competition now, but it didn't mean it would be going out of business any time soon.
"Exactly why is, like, the mayor doing this?" Kitty asks in curiosity as she and the others pass by the construction site.
Despite shivering profusely, Danny was able to answer the brunette's question.
"Apparently, since the fruitloop finished building the Nasty Burger, he figured why stop at that when he can build other things like these." he gestures with his head to the construction sites.
Rogue rolls her eyes before she states her own opinion in annoyance.
"Ah don't know about y'all, but the new mayor is gettin' far too greedy with progress and is only makin' thangs worse."
"Tell me about it." Sam said in agreement. "Messing too much with nature can be a dangerous thing."
As the construction workers continued doing their jobs, an immense tremor started. The ground underneath Danny's feet, as well as his friends, ripped open as various plants and floral sprouts from the cracks in the asphalt. Suddenly, an enormous venus fly trap emerges before opening the petals to reveal a sort of brain with eyes connected by optic nerves. Then, the teens watch in horror as vines snake down from the brain to the ground, followed by an ivy brush surrounding the stem from below to the top. It glows for a few seconds before it bursts to reveal a humanoid ghostly entity composed of vegetation, possessing red eyes, spikes on his head, a spiked bird-like beak, a green cloak and dark green hands as he lets out a bellowing roar in anger.
"Flesh dwellers!" he bellowed. "You've caused pain to my children once too often!" he reached for a cut down tree to crade it in his hands. "Now you too, shall feel pain. The pain of UNDERGROWTH!"
"Wait! Wait! Wait!"
Both authors sigh as guardian1989 asks in annoyance.
"What now, Wade?"
Deadpool, awakening after the effects of the dart wore off, asks.
"This one is about Undergrowth? Boring! Don't you think?"
"I happen to have changes in mind to make it a bit different from the canon." guardian1989 states in annoyance. "Speaking of which."
The author raised his arm as he twisted to reveal the face of a watch on his ulnar wrist as 61394 asks in curiosity.
"What are you doing?"
"Watch." guardian1989 simply said. "Autoguns, online!"
Suddenly, a robotic gun equipped with a scope, laser sight, and resembling a hi-tech M-197 gatling gun pops out from the ceiling before it points at Deadpool and cocks the three barrels simultaneously, chambering a round.
Target acquired
The merc with a mouth looks up at the gun as his mask looks like he has raised an eyebrow
"Huh?"
The gun fires a dart at such speed and accuracy that Deadpool didn't have time to dodge as it pierced him in the shoulder.
"D'oh!"
After pulling the empty dart, Deadpool gets woozy before dropping onto his stomach once more unconscious while the autogun retracts back into the ceiling.
"Dude!' 61394 shouts with impression. "When did you build that?!"
"Had it built since I finished the previous chapter for this story." guardian1989 replies.
"I so need the schematics for that!"
"I have something better to give you at the end of this chapter." guardian1989 said.
"Cool." 61394 siimply said.
"Now then, back to the show."
Undergrowth begins to destroy the construction vehicles in rage with his vine-like tentacles while crowds of people flee as they scream in terror. The group could only watch in shock as this new ghost continued his rampage.
"Something tells me that school will be canceled indefinitely unless we stop him." Evan comments.
"Pitiful human race. Your progress has destroyed acres of my children." Undergrowth monologues. "Now I shall destroy you to make room for my new offspring!"
Scott glanced at Danny as he said.
"If you're going to take cover and change, now's the time."
Sam takes a few steps forward as she says
"I completely dig where you're coming from, but there are better ways to go about this." she sees Undergrowth look down at her. "Start a non-profit or organize a petition."
Instead of listening to the human goth's suggestions, Undergrowth flings the vehicles into the building frames, destroying them before flinging the last one into the recently completed fast-food establishment, much to the horror of a certain beret wearing African boy.
"No. NOT THE NASTY BURGER!"
As Tucker dramatically sobs over the desteoyed restaurant, Rogue glares at Sam, who had a sheepish smile, and said.
"Ya really thought negotiatin' would work?"
Once Danny took cover, he was still shivering as he was barely to call out his battle cry.
"Going...ghost!"
After transforming into his original ghost form, Danny takes to the skies before he gets in range and charges up his ghost ray.
"Sorry. I don't have much of a green thumb!"
Danny fires his ghost ray, shooting off Undergrowth's arm as it falls to the ground.
"And now, neither do you!"
Undergrowth simply regrows his arm, as if the attack didn't happen. Suddenly, vines come to life from the ground as they are about to snare the group. However, Scott reacted quickly by switching his sunglasses to his visor, firing his optic blasts to destroy them.
"What do you say we help him out?" Scott asks the others.
In response, the X-Men spread out to give their friend some backup. All the while, Jean telepathically calls to the professor.
"Professor! There's a giant ghost plant attacking Bayville. We're going to need help right away!"
"I hear you, Jean! Logan and the Fentons are on their way." Professor Xavier replies before cutting the link.
Meanwhile, Scott combines his optic blasts with Danny's ghost rays before Rogue draws her sidearm to join the fray while Evan fires some of his bone spikes at the base of Undergrowth. However, none of their attacks seem to be working. Every time they deal damage, the ghost simply healed himself. When Danny blasts Undergrowth in the head, vines pull it back into place before stitching the severed part.
"You can't destroy a being who's able to regenerate himself!"
With a roar, Undergrowth summons enormous man-eating venus fly traps as a few of them pursue Danny, who tries to gain some distance. However, for the rest of the teens, the plant ghost was able to capture them, despite that Kurt and Kitty were able to evade using their teleportation and phasing powers, respectively. Despite this, Danny was returning to launch another attack. However, he starts shivering again before a vine captures him as well.
"Ugh. Such limited life forms." Undergrowth comments.in disgust, before he lifts the vines that held the X-Men up. "Even you, mutants."
"He knows what we are?" Evan asks the rest of his mutant comrades.
"Although instant destruction is an option," Undergrowth grins. "I feel replanting would be more...productive."
Undergrowth splits his head open before dispersing a sort of spores from his brainas the group looked on in shock before they started to feel drowsy.
"Sleep spores." Danny deduced.
In a minute, the group blacked out, not even able to hear Undergrowth's words.
One could say that a lot can happen in such a short amount of time, but with a ghost such as Undergrowth, he can take it to astronomically new heights. The teen group was barely regaining consciousness, not only to find themselves bound to a tree by vines, but to see what happened to Bayville.
"Damn." Danny was barely able to whisper.
All of the teens see that vines and other plant life have grown on skyscrapers, vehicles, signs, and lampposts all over. They were all shocked to see what had happened.
"Look at this place." Jean comments.
"It's like the city has turned into a garden." Kurt adds his input.
In an instant, some semi-sapient venus fly traps approached the group before stopping just inches away.
"I never ate my vegetables, so why is it fair that they get to eat me?" Tucker complains.
Danny tries to break free, but it didn't do any good. The vines that bound him held very strongly.
"No use. These vines are like steel cables." Danny comments.
Scott tries to reach for his visor to use his optic blasts, but even he couldn't move as his arms were bound tightly.
"It's no good." Scott said. "I can't reach my visor."
The rest of the X-Men found themselves bound very tightly to the point where they couldn't use their powers at all. After looking around, Kitty asks with worry.
"Has anyone, like, seen Rogue?"
"And what about Sam?" Tucker asks equally worried.
Suddenly, from the ground below, Undergrowrh appears before them.
"Yes. The growth is far stronger than any meat creature." he goes to eye level. "Even those with powers."
The X-Men realized the reason they were bound more tightly than Danny or Tucker. Just as the ghost boy charged up his fists, vines tipped with flowers cover his hands, blocking him from escaping.
"So...it seems." Danny comments as he looks at both of his covered hands.
"Perhaps one day, you'll realize this is what nature intended all along." Undergrowth growled as more semi-sapient venus fly traps rise from the ground before stroking them with his fingers. "Mankind is merely a temporary weed in the garden of life." He grins menacingly. "A weed that can be removed."
Despite shivering again, Danny looks at Undergrowth with defiance as he said.
"What makes you think we would bow to you?"
"Uh, dude. None of us could even move our fingers." Tucker comments.
"Your pessimistic but accurate friend is right." Undergrowth moves aside to show what has become of Bayville. "Observe. Your once proud and progressive metropolis."
The teens not only see the city overrun woth plants, but they also see a sort of plant that was more akin to being a brain with numerous vines connected to innocent people, turning them into mindless minions with glowing neon green eyes and crack-like veins as they were destroying parts of the city and planting seeds for new plant life to grow.
"The mind vine enables me to control the inhabitants' every movement. Why burden myself with the destruction of your city when I can have its own citizens do it for me?"
They see trees instantly sprouting from the ground in horror while Undergrowth continued his monologuing.
"Once the way is clear, my children will be planted and grow anew. My consciousness, my will, shall spread throughout the globe." Undergrowth makes a sinister grin. "And the concrete jungle shall become a real jungle."
As Undergrowth laughed, Danny shivered again as he spoke up defiantly.
"You can't win! If I can't stop you, someone else will!"
The plant ghost rose an eyebrow as he asked in a cocky tone
"Such as...?"
Suddenly, the FFAV rolls in with Jack and Maddie in the driver and passenger seats, respectively. Onboard the vehicle was Wolverine, Professor Xavier, and Danielle in her ghost form, ready for a fight. From the vehicle, a giant buzzsaw popped out from the roof as it effortlessly cut through the vines. Suddenly, a thicker wraps around the FFAV. However, the passengers were able to get out through an escape hatch as Danielle held the professor's wheelchair before setting down the bald telepath.
"When this is over, Danielle, we're going to have a talk about you ditching class." Jack comments as he glanced at his younger daughter.
"Hey! Everybody else evacuated the school when those plant things began taking over." Danielle said as she shrugged her shoulders.
With a primal roar, Wolverine extends his adamantium claws and begins to slice through the vines as if they were ribbons with Danielle watching his back as she provided cover fire
After looking back to see Danielle blast a vine sneaking up from behind, the burly Canadian smirked as he said.
"Not bad, Shorty. Want to give me a lift?"
"Sure." Dani replied.
Despite the weight from the adamantium-fused skeleton, Danielle lifts Wolverine high up to the group before the ghost girl gives the Canadian a swing, launching him to the tree as he gets a grip with his claws.
"I'll free the others. Protect Chuck." Wolverine barked.
"Yes, sir!" Danielle replied with a salute.
Meanwhile, Maddie was armed with gardening tools as she hacked away at the roots and vines. Suddenly, as she slashed at another root, one of the roots of the mind vine attaches itself to the back of the Fenton woman's head as she screamed before suddenly silenced as she gained the same features as the others who were enslaved.
"MOM!" Danielle shouts.
"She's been taken over by the mind vine." Danny comments.
Another root attaches itself to the back of Jack's head. However, it didn't affect him as he grabbed it.
"I don't see what the big deal is..." Jack notes as he looks at it.
It tries again repeatedly until it finds its way into his ear and takes control of him as well. However, when Danielle was covering Professor Xavier, another one snuck in and attached itself to the bald telepath, but instead of controlling him as it did to the others, Xavier was unaffected as it tried repeatedly to enslave him before the root detached itself from him.
Undergrowth noticed what happened as he glared at Professor Xavier.
"How are you able to resist my mind vine?!"
Then, the ghost was able to hear Xavier thoughts through the mind vine since it was a physical creation.
"I am a telepath, Undergrowth. I can shield my mind from your influences. I'm also fully aware of what you've done to one of my students and an innocent human being."
"Ah, yes. The two females." Undergrowth comments with a grin before two roses emerged from the ground. "Every garden needs a caretaker or two."
Suddenly, as Wolverine was about to finish cutting the vines to free the group, they all saw the roses bloom before Sam and Rogue emerged. They both sported the features of the other enslaved citizens. However, Sam donned a green dress with two collars: one on her neck, the other on her left thigh, as well as gloves that were halfway up her forearms as well as being barefoot. Rogue's outfit was her usual but had rips on the legs, her green transparent blouse, and her halter top. She, too, was barefoot.
All who were familiar with them were shocked, but the one who was shocked the most was Danny as he whispered in horror.
"Rogue..."
Undergrowth had both goths tied to vines to each of their limbs as if they were puppets on his string. First, he lifts Sam as he said.
"This one's love of vegetation makes her the perfect choice to work alongside me."
Then, he proceeds to lift Rogue as Undergrowth continued.
"This one's powers don't affect ghostly apparitions, but has deadly effects on other flesh walkers, making her the perfect choice to be my enforcer." Undergrowth grins. "I can show them the ropes...or vines, so to speak."
"Flesh walkers. Your bodies are needed for work." Sam droned, completely hypnotized.
"And for nourishment." Rogue droned, completely hypnotized as well, without her southern accent.
A mind vine attaches itself to Tucker, causing him to scream as it takes over. Suddenly, an enormous venus fly trap rises as it growls. As it closed in, Danny began shivering uncontrollably as his body turned to a blue hue before the tree and the vines that bound him, and the remaining group freeze in solid ice before he shouted
"Back off!"
The ghost boy was able to break the ice as he freed himself and the other X-Men. Danielle was able to catch Wolverine and Kurt while Jean used her telekinetic powers to catch herself as well as Scott, Kitty, and Evan. As the group safely landed onto the ground, they regrouped with the professor, as the brunette said.
"We've, like, got to get out of here!"
"To where?" Kurt asks. "There's no place we can hide in!"
Despite shivering, Danny was able to speak.
"Th-th-th-there's one place...w-w-we can go."
Evan looks at Danny as he asks.
"You mean, the Ghost Zone?"
"Y-y-y-yeah."
Wolverine looks around before he sees an empty schoolbus that he hoped was still functional and then barks to the group.
"In there! Move it!"
The group made haste to the bus as Danielle carried Professor Xavier by the wheelchair before phasing both of them inside the vehicle as everyone got onboard. Thankfully, it was still functional as Scott took the driver's seat before finding the keys on the dashboard. After starting it up, he floors it while Danny followed them through the air.
With Undergrowth, he growled before he turned to his enslaved minions.
"You!" he points at Sam. "You remain here to tend to my children." He points to Rogue. "You! Stop them from escaping!"
"Yes, father." Both Sam and Rogue droned before the two girls carried out Undergrowth's orders.
In the bus, Scott was driving as the rest of the group were catching their breath before Danny entered the vehicle and took a seat as he still shivered.
"Logan, what of the others?" Scott asks.
"The new recruits are with Hank and Ororo underground, beneath the Institute." Wolverine assured. "They're gonna stay put until Chuck gives them the okay."
"Professor, is there any way we can take out this mind vine of his?" Jean asks, completely worried.
"No." Professor Xavier replies with dread. "The mind vine is linked to every person, symbiotically. If it were destroyed while Undergrowth remains, I'm afraid... no citizen will survive. Also, there are too many minds for me to shield. It appears he has taken very cautious measures."
"This is bad." Evan comments with worry.
The bus was only half a mile from the Institute as the mansion came into view. Suddenly, Rogue emerges from the ground as semi-sapient killer plants are behind her. Scott slammed the brakes of the bus, stopping the vehicle. Suddenly, as everyone bailed out, one of the vines wrapped around the bus, crushing it.
"Become." Rogue droned. "Become part of the growth."
"Move!" Wolverine barked.
The group ran as Scott used his optic blasts to clear a path while Danny stayed behind to cover their backs. The ghost boy was shivering tremendously as icicles formed on his hair, snow was on parts of his costume, and his skin had a blue hue. Vines tried to ensnare him, but they froze in ice, allowing him to break them.
They made it inside the Institute before going downstairs as Danielle carried Professor Xavier by the wheelchair and phased them both through the floor to get to the lower levels. Danny was right behind them as he caught up to the group. Then, they enter the hangar to see the portal that Jack and Maddie recently installed, open.
"You're kidding, right?" Logan asks in disbelief.
"We have no choice, Logan." Professor Xavier comments.
Thankfully, the Specter Speeder was still intact and untouched. Just as they get onboard, the group see Danny entering the hangar as Scott revs up the vehicle but stays inert, waiting for him.
"Go! I'll catch up!" Danny shouts.
Scott nods before revving up the vehicle and drives it through the portal, which thankfully was large enough to allow the vehicle to pass through easily. Danny makes a break for it as more vines slither into the area. When one wraps around his leg, it freezes before Danny breaks free. He was merely 3 feet away before Rogue appeared in front of him, startling him in the process.
"Stay sugar." Rogue droned. "Stay and rule with me."
While vines emerged from Rogue's back, Danny continued shivering as he said.
"I always thought you ruled, Rogue." he paused for a second. "Just... not like this. I'll b-be back, and I'll save you and everyone!"
Danny turns intangible before he passes through Rogue and gets through the portal, entering the Ghost Zone. Scott instantly sees him before altering the course of the vehicle after Danielle gets him inside.
"Now what?" Logan asks as he lifts his mask. "It ain't like we're just gonna drift here aimlessly."
"I kn-kn-kn-know one place where w-w-we can get help." Danny said before glancing at the driver. "Scott, t-take us to the F-F-Far Frozen."
Scott nods before driving the speeder to the very location that Danny instructed as the ghost boy passed out from the cold he was feeling.
It was only ten minutes when the Specter Speeder finally reached its destination, the Far Frozen, as the vehicle landed into the snow. Everyone got off the vehicle as Logan carried an unconscious Danny while Danielle set down Professor Xavier's wheelchair into the snow.
"Mind telling me why we're here in this snow globe?" Logan asked in curiosity as he looked around.
"We, like, have friends here, Mr. Logan." Kitty said in response.
Evan sees movement from very familiar ghosts that resembled yeti as he said
"In fact, here they are now."
On a skiff, Frostbite, accompanied by two yeti soldiers see the group before their vehicle sets down and the trio get off.
"Ah, Sir Cyclops, friend of the Great One." Frostbite greets. "It is good to see you again."
Professor Xavier rose an eyebrow as did Logan as the bald turned to Scott.
"Sir Cyclops?" Professor Xavier asks in confusion.
"Friend of the Great One?" Logan asks, equally confused.
Scott rubbed the back of his head before he said.
"Remember the details when we briefed you of our pursuit of Vlad?"
Professor Xavier instantly remembers as he said in response.
"Ah, yes. I recall the details of your first meeting with these people; of how they address Daniel as a sort of savior of this world and all of you my knights."
Suddenly, Frostbite, as well as the other two yeti, gasped in shock as their gaze was focused on Professor Xavier.
"Could it be...?"
In an instant, Frostbite and his company quickly approached the bald telepath before they bent a knee, bowing in respect.
"Lord Charles Xavier." Frostbite groveled. "Your presence in our realm humbles us all." he and the other yeti raise their heads to make eye contact. "It is a supreme honor to finally meet you."
"Am I missing something here?" Logan asks the teens.
"The honor is all mine." Xavier said. "But please, you can simply address me as Professor."
"But of course." Frostbite obliged as he rose to his feet."
"If you don't mind me asking, we could use some assistance with Daniel." Xavier requested as he gestured to Danny in Logan's arms.
"Yes, of course." Frostbite noticed the teens shivering. "Come. We shall take you all to the city at once."
While Danny was inside a fluid-filled chamber that only showed his head equipped in a breathing mask and unconscious, the group was donning snow coats to keep warm. Then, Frostbite enters with several cups of hot chocolate and freshly baked cinammon rolls.
"Would anyone care for some refreshments?" he asks.
"Neat!" Danielle snatched a mug and a roll. "After all that fighting and running, I'm starve!"
The others accept the refreshments before Frostbite asks.
"So, what brings you all here to the Far Frozen?" he noticed one of the members of the X-Men missing. "And why are you missing one of your knights?"
"Forgive us if we have invaded your domain, but we came here seeking refuge and assistance." Professor Xavier answered.
"Refuge? From what?" Frostbite asks with worry.
"More like, from whom." Jean said after taking a sip of her hot chocolate.
"Exactly who are you referring to, Lady Jean?"
All the while, no one noticed that Danny awakened to see that he was inside a chamber and that his costume was removed, leaving him with his boxers, as Jean explained.
"Apparently, Bayville has been overrun by volatile plants, led by this ghost who calls himself Undergrowth."
Frostbite pressed a button on a consile, revealing a hologram of the identified ghost.
"Ah, yes. I've heard tell of this Undergrowth. A powerful ghost, he is. Capable of self regeneration and producing numerous killer offspring." he turns to the X-Men. "Nearly impossible to defeat."
"Furthermore, he's not only enslaved many innocent people, one of whom happens to be one of my students and a mutual friend of theirs." Professor Xavier stated. "He turned them both against us."
Forstbite had a worried look as he said.
"This is very troubling, indeed, my lord."
Soon, everyone heard Danny's voice speaking up.
"Wh... Where am I?"
"Ah, you're finally awake, Great One."
"Frostbite?" Danny looks around. "Where am I, and what happened to my clothes?"
Frostbite smiled before he said.
"Well, you're in a medical facility of the Far Frozen. Currently, you're in a de-icing chamber, and your clothes are in the wash. There were several burs on your shirt." Frostbite glanced at the X-Men. "Your comrades have already gotten me up to speed on the current situation happening to your world." he turns back to Danny. "Especially, about two of your friends have been turned to enemies."
"Yeah. Not to mention, this cold sensation I've been feeling has been taking over me constantly." Danny said.
"Ah yes, about this cold sensation."
Frostbite looks at a monitor showing an image of Danny with a blinking blue light in the chest as he points to it.
"Your central core readings indicate extreme cold, as if your body is self generating it." the yeti leader explains.
Danny was confused as he asked.
"How is that possible?"
Frostbite merely chuckled, much to the confusion of the X-Men.
"You become invisible, pass through solid objects, and emit beams of energy from your hands." Frostbite puts his fists on his hips. "And you ask how is this possible?"
Danny rose an eyebrow as things were beginning to make sense to him and everyone else.
"You mean, this is a new ghost power?"
"Of course!" Professor Xavier wheels towards the chamber. "It all makes sense now, Daniel. You're actually enduring an evolutionary process, similar to what Jean has endured previously."
"Precisely." Frostbite said in agreement. "Though new to you it may be, Great One, be assured that it's an ability familiar to me and my people."
Forstbite forms an ice crystal in his hand as a demonstration of cryomancy before using an ice blast to form a sculpture of Danny Phantom himself.
"We are quite well-trained in its use." he forms a sword from the crystal. "And for more practical uses."
With a scream, Forstbite slashed the statue using the icy weapon in half.
"Teach me." Danny looks down at himself. "After I get my clothes back."
Soon enough, the yeti were in a stadium of sorts while Danny, Danielle, the X-Men, and Frostbite were in the center of it all. The ghost bly was shivering once as he asked.
"Why are there so many of your p-p-people w-watching us?"
"It's not every moon that my people get an opportunity to see their leader train someone as legendary as you, Great One." Frostbite said before glancing at the mutants. "Or see the day that Lord Xavier and his knights are present in the Far Frozen."
Scott glanced at Jean as he said through his mind.
"Somehow, I got a feeling that they're expecting him to mess up."
"I'm thinking the same thing." Jean thought in response.
"Now then, lesson one." Frostbite began. "Stop shivering."
"I-I-I-I c-can't." Danny managed to say.
"Daniel. It's similar to your Danger Room sessions when you've been training with the others." Professor Xavier says to him. "Concentrate. Focus on controlling your new power, just as you have done so with your other abilities."
"Heed Lord Xavier's wisdom." Frostbite said. "You've had this contained since you've acquired your ghost powers. Up until today, small amounts were released whenever you sensed a ghost nearby."
"My ghost sense is a part of this?" Danny asks, enlightened.
"Precisely. Now, you have to let it all out at once." Frostbite instructs. "Build up the energy until it has nowhere to go but out."
"Okay." Danny comments as he continues to shiver. "Here goes."
Danny concentrates as both Frostbite and Xavier instructed. With a scream and a thrust of his arms, Danny glows a light blue aura before he dispersed it. The results were rather productive.
"Hey, it worked!"
"Way to go, bro!" Danielle cheered.
The X-Men and Xavier were proud of his success as Logan smirked before he said.
"Except for one thing, Spooky."
Danny looks to where Logan was point at with his thumb to see Frostbite completely frozen in solid ice as he became horror-stricken.
"Anybody got leftover hot chocolate?" he asks nervously.
And so, the training began. The first was the targets. Frostbite went first as his hands glowed blue before he fired 6 ice spikes at the targets, nailing all of them in the center. The yeti cheered for their leader's success. Soon, it was Danny's turn as Frostbite gave him the signal. After taking a deep breath, Danny concentrates as his hands glow blue and fired 6 spikes of his own. Each of his projectiles hit the targets dead center. Danielle and the X-Men cheered him on for his success.
"Not bad, eh Chuck?" Logan asks.
"Indeed, old friend. He's grasping the concept rather quickly." Professor Xavier comments in response.
After several more exercises, Danny's training was complete. Soon, the group was getting onboard the Specter Speeder as Frostbite was near the vehicle.
"Well, I guess this is goodbye for now, huh?" Danny asks before he smiles. "I don't know how I can thank you and your people enough."
"Indeed. You all have provided great assistance to us all." Professor Xavier adds.
"It's always a pleasure, my lord." Frostbite said to the professor. "Should you ever need our assistance again, we will humbly provide it."
"Again. I thank you, and you do not need to address me as royalty." Xavier said.
"Oh, nonsense. For your ambition to unite humans and your people through harmony and peace, you are worthy of the title, Lord Charles Xavier." Forstbite said in response after waving his hand in a dismissive gesture.
"Yes. Well, thank you." Professor Xavier noticed Danny looking down. "Is something wrong?"
"Well, it's just that, with what has happened in Bayville, I don't know if I'll be able to beat Undergrowth." Danny admits.
"Daniel, it is only natural to feel the fear." Professor Xavier assures.
"Indeed, but charging into battle despite the fear is what makes one a hero." Frostbite said in assurance. "A hero must always believe that he will win and your new abilities just may help."
Danny looks at his hands as he makes them glow blue before he hears Frostbite's words.
"Be mindful. You control the power. It does not control you."
"Thanks." Danny said in gratitude.
Frostbite nods before he says,
"Now go forth and rid your world of the evil ghost vermin that infests it."
After Xavier and Danny get onboard, the Specter Speeder levitates before it flies off.
The shutter doors of the portal remained opened as the vehicle landed back into the hangar. The group gets off the vehicle to see the area completely covered in various vines. Even the Blackbird had vines entwined.
Both half-ghosts use the energy of their ghost rays to light up the dark hangar, allowing all to see what has happened, much to the shock of everyone.
"My God..." Logan whispered.
"Look at this." Scott said in disbelief.
Professor Xavier lightly placed his hand on the side of his head as he called out to Ororo.
"Storm. Are you, Hank, and the new recruits safe?"
"Yes, Charles. We are all safe. The bunker has not been compromised." Ororo said through her thoughts.
"Very well. Logan and I will enter through a secret passageway." Professor Xavier said before cutting the link and then turned to the X-Men, Danny, and Danielle. "I need you all to search for survivors and, if possible, engage Undergrowth."
The group nodded in response before Logan escorted the bald telepath while hacking the vines with his adamantium claws as the teens and pre-teen ventured out.
"If this, like, happened to the hangar..." Kitty began.
"Bayville is probably worse off." Kurt finished.
No one knew that two fly traps saw them before they glowed.
In the city, every inch was completely covered in various vines and vegetation. Danielle carried Kurt by the shirt while Jean carried Scott, Kitty, and herself with her telekinesis, and Danny carried Evan by the arms. The group was completely shocked at what they were seeing.
"Damn. Where is everybody?" Evan asks in shock.
"This place is, totally, like a ghost town, but with plants." Kitty comments.
Suddenly, Danny hears a familiar female voice calling to him, as did everyone else.
"Danny..."
They knew who that feminine voice belonged to, despite the lack of her southern accent as the ghost boy whispered.
"Rogue..."
Danny flew off in a different direction as the others followed him.
"There's no signs of life anywhere." Scott said as he looked around.
"I can't feel anyone's mind at all, either." Jean notes with worry.
Then, they hear Sam's voice this time.
"Danny..."
Eventually, in the city's outskirts, the group sees an enormous tree surrounded by numerous pods of some kind, and the leaves are violet in color. They slowly approach the tree before Danny sets Evan down while Danielle, Jean, and the others land at the base of the tree.
"I take a look up there." he said.
"Be careful, Danny." Scott warns.
After nodding, Danny flies up slowly as he looks for signs of movement before he hears Sam's voice again.
"Welcome back, my friend."
The trunk splits open to reveal Sam was turned into a sort of plant queen with a rose on the chest, complete with a cape, and the vines were still connected to her back.
"You know, you really had Rogue worried sick." Sam droned with a malicious smile.
The tree's trunk on the right side splits to reveal Rogue, donning the same outfit and features as Sam. Only hers was all black as the possessed mutant goth had an equally malicious smile. Seeing her new form not only shocked Danny, but the X-Men and Danielle too.
"Danny, my darling." Rogue droned. "I thought you were lost to me forever."
"Rogue. Sam. We have to get you both out of here!" Danny said.
"Why? I like it here." Sam droned.
"As do I." Rogue droned in agreement.
"Undergrowth has made all things new." Sam droned as vines slithered towards the possessed girls. "They need us."
"We are their new caretakers, now." Rogue droned as she gently stroked one of the vines that wrapped around her waist.
"What?" Danny said in confusion. "Sam, you wouldn't babysit your cousins. Rogue, you even said the new recruits get on your nerves with their pranks." he looks around. "Where is everybody?"
With a snap of their fingers, the pods come to life as they rise up from the base of the tree before opening up to reveal each citizen inside them and completely unconscious. The group below and Danny were completely shocked.
"This is bad." Kurt comments in horror.
"Totally." Kitty said, equally horrified.
"It's no good. They're symbiotically linked. We can't do anything to save them." Jean said.
With Danny, he was equally shocked.
"Our friends, our families? What are you doing?!" he demands.
"They will be used as nutrients for the children." Sam droned.
"All that matters now are the children." Rogue finished.
With a roar, Undergrowth emerged from below, demolishing several skyscrapers in the process before he focused on Danny.
"And you will make a fine meal for them, too!" Undergrowth grins. "As will your friends."
Vines quickly wrapped around the X-Men and Danielle before they had any time to react while Undergrowth backhands Danny to the ground. The ghost boy retaliates with a barrage of ghost rays, but as before, Undergrowth regenerates from the damage that inflicted on him. Suddenly, a trio of giant cacti pummel Danny as he tried to defend himself in vain before being knocked down. Then, vines wrap around him as well before Rogue approaches him.
"You must take root!" Rogue droned.
"Become with us!" Sam also droned.
"Stop! Please!" Danny begged. "You can't let him win!"
Soon, Danny was pulled under as Sam and Rogue could only watch while the latter was close to shedding tears. Then, they both hear Undergrowth speak to them.
"You have done well, my daughters." he sees them shift their gaze towards him. "You both shall have the honor of selecting the next course for the children after the first one has been fed to them when he's ripe."
Sam and Rogue grin maliciously before they both droned simultaneously as they glanced at the area where Danny was pulled underground.
"Yes, father."
Underneath, Danny struggled to get loose from the mess of vines before he remembered both Professor Xavier and Frostbite's words. He closed his eyes to concentrate before opening them to reveal that instead of glowing neon green, they took a light blue color as the ghost boy bellows.
"Let. Me. GO!!!!!!!!!"
On the surface, thr restrained X-Men and Danielle see ice freezing the vines before energy erupts, as did Undergrowth, Sam, and Rogue. Then, everyone sees Danny floating in the air. His entire body glowed blue like his eyes as the ghost boy tapped into his cryomancy at full force, ready to fight back.
"Bundle up. It's going to get chilly."
Danny fires an ice blast at Undergrowth, freezing him solid as Sam and Rogue watched in horror. However, Undergrowth breaks free before charging in to attack Danny, who merely evaded the larger ghost's punches thanks to his superior speed and agility. Once vines wrapped around Danny, he literally froze them as he quips
"Watch out! The weatherman predicted a cold snap!"
After breaking free, Danny sees Undergrowth getting weaker as the X-Men and Danielle watch with pride.
"You think we should help him out?" Evan asks.
"Nah. I think he's got everything covered." Scott said in response. "But, just in case," he turns to Jean. "Jean, you think you could...?"
Jean nodded before using her telekinesis to activate Scott's visor, allowing the older boy to fire his optic blast at the roots of the vines that restrained them. In an instant, they were all free before Scott, Jean, Danielle, and Evan focused on providing backup as they held off Sam.and Rogue while Danny focused on Undergrowth.
"Hey, cabbage face!" Danny shouts as his hands glow blue. "Haven't you heard cold air is bad for the plants?"
Turning intangible, Danny phased through the ground to get to Undergrowth's roots and began to freeze all of them, making the plant ghost feel pain and getting weaker by the second.
"No! My roots! You can't do this to my children!"
Undergrowth watched in horror as the plants became encased in solid ice as he became further weakened.
"This is my domain!" he cried in defiance. "My offspring shall inherit the Earth!"
Suddenly, Undergrowth sees Danny right in front of him as the ghost boy has his arms crossed.
"Dude, I don't know if you realize this, but you're a terrible father." he quipped.
In an instant, Danny pummeled Undergrowth with several punches before delivering a final punch, knocking him down. Then, the ghost boy prepares his finishing blow as he charges up his ghost ray, combined with his cryomancy.
"As a duly deputized guardian of Bayville, it is my sincere hope that you've enjoyed your ass-kicking experience."
Danny launched his finishing blow as the projectile first freezes Undergrowth, and then a glow of neon green light illuminated the ghost from the inside as the ghost boy's enemy cried out in defiance before he was instantly destroyed at last, much to the shock and horror of Sam and Rogue.
The results of Undergrowth's destruction were productive. Not only did the ice melt, but all of the vines, roots, and vegetation spawned by the ghost withered instantly into dust. The city returned to normal, as did the citizens. While many of them were unconscious but alive, there were only 3 who awakened.
"What happened?" Sam groaned before she spits. "Ugh! My mouth tastes like I've had nine thousand shots of wheat grass without the wheat!"
"Bleh! You and Ah both!" Rogue said, her accent completely restored.
"And I had a nightmare that I was trapped in a salad bar." Tucker shudders. "Ooh. the gabanzo beans!"
The trio hear footsteps before they see Scott and the others.
"You guys okay?" Scott asks.
"Yeah, we're fine." Sam looks around. "But where's Danny?"
Soon, they hear Danny approaching as his entire body continued glowing an.ice blue aura, much to the surprise of Sam, Tucker, and Rogue.
"Whoa..." was all Sam could say since she felt her mind go blank.
Rogue slowly approached him as she asked in curiosity and surprise.
"Sugah...? What has happened to ya?"
"Let's just say that I've had a change for the better." Danny said before lifting his glowing hand. "And a whole new respect for nature."
Danny forms an ice diamond in his hand before he hands it to Rogue.
"What's this for?" Rogue asks in curiosity.
"I'm just glad you're okay, now."
As Danny and Rogue touched heads, Sam looked away as she thought in disgust.
"Barf!"
Then, everyone hears engines before Tucker arrives, driving a lawnmower with a sign as Evan noticed before glaring at him.
"Damn, dude! You're a rip-off!" Evan said. "Who's willing to pay 5 G's just to have their lawn cut?"
"Hey, we got to start somewhere." Tucker said in response. "All we need is one lawn, " he throws his fists into the air. "And we'll be rolling in green stuff!"
"Why do I get the feeling I've just done that?" Sam asks with a glare.
"And Ah oughta punch ya for that stupid ahdea of yours." Rogue comments with a glare.
Suddenly, Undergrowth, or what remains of him, emerged from the ground as a tiny weed with a roar.
"I am regenerating! I will take over"
The plant ghost didn't finish as he screamed while being shredded by the lawnmower before suddenly silenced.
"That one's on the house." Tucker comments.
"Or rather, the greenhouse." Danielle quips.
The group laughed in response.
Meanwhile, in a house, there was a woman with short brown hair and donning sunglasses, indicating that she was blind. She was resting on a chair, just enjoying the silence. Suddenly, she gasped in horror as she nearly dropped her white cane in a process.
"Oh, no! No!"
Using her white cane to navigate around the living room, the woman reached the phone before dialing a number quickly and waited for the individual she intended to call to answer.
And that's the end of part 1 for the chapter trilogy. Stay tuned for part 2, where the aftermath of Undergrowth's invasion causes a certain mutant's powers to go haywire.
Deadpool wakes up after the effects of the toxin wears off.
"I can't believe you let the Warners shoot me with that dart gun and let guardian shoot me with that new robot gun. I thought we were friends, number boy," he complains.
"We are friends Wade but various versions of you have dropped pachyderms on me, stolen the company card FP gave me, thrown pie in my face, constantly petitioned for Danny and Kim to get together, and mailed my entire house to Sokovia! It took forever to move my house back. Also, you're forgetting the first rule of comedy." 61394 said.
"What first rule?" Deadpool asks
61394 fired the tranq gun shooting Wade in the shoulder.
"You're despicable..."
"Comedy is a tragedy that happens to others," 61394 said before Wade passes out.
Both authors shook hands as the guest author said.
"Looking forward to seeing the second part."
"No worries. You will, and the Warners are welcomed here, just as you are." guardian1989 said.
"See you next time." 61394 said as he left the realm before guardian1989 flicks the switch.
