Chapter 32: Friends? Part III

Danny soon brought Mandie to burger stand for lunch, which she eyed with curiosity.

"What are these?..."Mandie whispered to him.

"Cheeseburgers... a favorite on Earth... unless you're Sam..."Danny said as he bought some.

They went to a nearby table and sat down. There, Danny offered her one.

"Here, try it..."He offered. "Or are you a vegetarian like Sam?..."He asked.

"Certainly not..."She said as she eyed the food.

Mandie was curious, as she smelled it and looked at it closer.

It didn't smell bad, but she wasn't going to eat something without knowing what it is.

"One second..."She said as she pulled out a bracelet-like wrist scanner from her purse.

"What's that?..."Danny asked.

"Your basic Boudacian scanner..."Mandie explained as she quickly analyzed the earth food and soon read the results.

It consists of earth beef with an added dairy product known as cheese, along with vegetables and some other condiments.

"Well, at least it's not poisonous and it won't do to me what chocolate does to Yugopotamians..."She muttered.

Before Danny could question that, Mandie took one bite of the cheese burger.

"How is it?..."He asked, curious of her opinion.

Mandie was silent for a moment as she registered the taste. After a moment of silence, her eyes widened to the point that her pupils enlarged for a moment.

"Oh! Yummy!..."She said in amazement as she began to scarf it down in an almost animalistic manner, before she recalled Danny was watching her.

"Uh...sorry about that...I enjoy the taste..."She said, embarrassed by how un-lady like she acted.

Thankfully, Danny just chuckled a bit at her antics.

"It's okay, glad you like it..."He said as he took a bite of his own burger.

The two ate together and Mandie still found herself sending glances at him and was happy at how well they were getting along.

"Finally, we're getting along..."She thought, happy with the delicious food and the chance to spend this time with the man she is sure that she is in love with.

She just knew that there was more between them than what he believes...at the very least, she felt that way.

She just hoped that in some form or another, Danny might start to see her in the same light that she sees him in right now.

Later

After finishing the burgers, Danny threw away the trash and Mandie had a satisfied look on her face.

"I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food in this dimension Earth is, considering how surprisingly bright and saccharine the food of my universe's Earth was..."She said, now drinking a soda.

Danny chuckled.

"Glad you enjoyed it..."He said as he threw the trash away. "They might not be as tasty as the ones at the Nasty Burger but they are still good..."He said.

"Nasty Burger?..."Mandie questioned.

"It's a burger joint that me and my friends like to go. Despite it's name, the food is good..."Danny said and Mandie got interested.

"I see...do you think we can visit that place for our next outing?..."She asked, due to wanting to taste the food and also dropping a hint of another potential day of "hanging out".

"Sure...send me a heads-up first..."He said, pleasing the alien girl.

Mandie smiled at him before her nose picked up another delicious scent.

"Mmm...what sweet fragrance is that?..."She said as she noticed a cotton candy cart.

"Darling, what's that?..."She asked.

"It's a cotton candy cart..."He said and Mandie smiled.

"Cotton candy, we had that in my universe but never had a chance to simple some of it..."She said.

Danny bought some for the two of them and Mandie quickly scanned it and was glad to see it wasn't harmful to her.

She ate it and smiled.

"Mmm...this is superb, much lighter and fluffier than I expect. It also has a delightful aftertaste..."She said as she ate more.

"Seems you have a sweet tooth..."Danny couldn't help but comment.

"Does really that surprise you? After all, I have the same tastes in food humans do..."Mandie said as she took another bite. "Plus, I'm not like one of those candy-hating Yugopotamians from my universe..."She said.

"You mentioned that earlier...you said that they don't like chocolate?..."He asked, curious about the other aliens.

"Obviously, they consider it vile and it's down right poisonous to them. It was another reason why me and my ex-husband Mark were mismatched, but I didn't care at the time..."She said as she finished her sweet treat and resumes her "Not Date" with her beloved.

"That actually sounds horrible. I mean, I can't imagine being unable to have my favorite milkshake..."Danny said but they continued eating his own cotton candy.

Once done, Mandie smiled.

"Tasty, I must remember to bring earth currency with me on our next outing together..."Mandie said.

"Maybe, just remember what I said about giving me a heads up..."Danny said as he wiped his lips with a napkin when he was done.

Mandie smiled before she noticed another attraction up ahead.

"Danny darling...what's that ride?..."She asked as she pointed up ahead.

Danny blinked and groaned when he saw what she was pointing at.

"It's called the...Tunnel of love..."He said and tried to ignore the intrigued look on her face.

"I see...and...what exactly do people...do at this tunnel of love?..."She asked, having an idea but wanting to hear it from him.

"It's where a boy and a girl...who like each other a lot go in together and...spend some time together...alone... in private..."He said and the alien looked interested.

"I see...why don't we go there next?..."She asked as she fluttered her eyelashes at him.

Danny frowned.

"Mandie, remember what I said. I said we could be friends and I agreed to hang out and get to know each other but I am not going on a couples ride with someone who is suppose to be a friend..."He said, being stern.

Mandie heard his refusal and pouted.

"Fine..."She complained but complied... at least, for now.

On the inside, she was deep in thought as she considered all of this.

"Hmm...so only this "Tunnel of Love" must be some sort of courtship between earthlings. If that's true, then I'll mark this as a future step for our relationship. I suspect if all goes well today, soon we will enjoy such a moment.."She thought, deciding to end it here for now.

"I guess I can wait until that fateful day where you finally admit that you desire me..."She said in a romantic tone, looking forward for the day they could ride the "Tunnel of Love" hand-in-hand together.

The ghost boy blushed at that but didn't voice his thoughts. Hormones to not, he was not thinking the same as the princess.

"Okay, I know she's respecting the rules and stuff, but wow, can she play hardball..."Danny thought with an eye roll, but he should have expected this.

"Just remember what I said..."He said seriously.

"So, what shall we do now?..."Mandie asked.

"We probably should wait an hour before going on the rides again. I guess we could walk and look at the attractions to pass the time..."Danny said.

Mandie smiled.

"Okay, that sounds wonderful..."She said.

Later

The unusual teenagers spent about an hour walking around and looking at some clowns who were entertaining the public, a fire eater (hich Mandie commented that they reminded her of a natural predator back home she was more than happy to never see that again),a bearded lady with chin hair that went to the floor like a snake, and a strong man who seemed more like a weakling in Boudician standards.

They even walked past a nearby lake and admired the view. Mandie saw some couples nearby who were sharing a passionate kiss and sent a longing look to the ghost boy.

"I wonder how long it will be before we're like that..."She thought as she knew that right now, she needs to be patient if she wants this strategy to conquer his heart.

The soon continued to look before it was time to go on more rides.

Danny then took Mandie to the bumper cars, the merry-go-round, a spinning tea cup ride and even a log ride.

Soon, it was nearly sundown and the alien girl was laughing after they had just gotten off the roller coaster again.

"I must say, I can't remember the last time I had so much fight without fighting involved..."She said, feeling a rush of excitement through out her body as she laughed.

Danny saw this and smiled.

"I see that you are enjoying yourself..."He said, finding her much more bearable like this.

Mandie smiled and then noticed another ride.

"Danny, let's go on that round thing next..."She pointed up ahead.

Danny saw the Ferris Wheel and the short line behind it. With a mirthful face, he smiled.

"It's called a Ferris Wheel and alright. Let's head over now, while the line's short..."He said and Mandie nodded.

"Sure..."She said as he led her to the Ferris wheel, just in time too as a special event was being prepared.

At the Ferris Wheel

Danny and Mandie had gotten in line and soon were on the ride, that was now moving.

"Tell me again what this ride's main purpose?..."She questioned.

"Mostly just relaxing and enjoying the view. It's a lot easier to explain once you experience it first hand..."He said as the ride was in progress.

Just in time as the sunset and suddenly there were loud noises and bright explosive patterns filled the sky.

"What's that?..."Mandie asked, sounding defensive.

"Relax, they're just fire works...They're probably celebrating something or putting on a show..."He explained.

Mandie seemed a little baffled and perplexed at the colorful display. While she knew of explosions, they had always been of bombs and missiles hitting the grounds and buildings of the enemy planets.

It was strange seeing such sights in peaceful times.

Mandie watched quietly as the fireworks went off again. She gazed with wonder as the Ferris wheel stopped for a brief moment giving the teens the best view of the display.

"On my home planet, such explosions would signal a war. Tell me, Danny, is your Earth in battle with someone?..."She asked, needing to know.

Danny paused. He actually somehow found that to be funny as he smiled and shook his head. Mandie raised a brow.

"You are certain Earth is not under attack by anyone?..."She asked.

Danny chuckled and shook his head.

"Nope, I can say that we're not under attack right now. This is all for fun, like the carnival..."He said as he went back to admiring them.

"Beautiful..."Danny said, gazing at the light.

"Yes...indeed..."Mandie's eyes were not on the fireworks.

Her vision was clouded by the image of Danny next to her. she felt something new. Something she had never felt before and she liked it.

"This feeling... I just hope that soon, he will feel the same..."She thought as they continued to watch the fireworks and enjoy the ride together and almost wishing this could last forever.

For the time being, the unique teens were silent, enjoying each other's company as the ferris wheel had made a full rotate.

Later

It was now night time and Danny remembered that he had a thing called curfew to maintain. Mandie was upset that their outing had come to an end but even she realized she had to get home before her parents started to worry and sent a fleet of warships on some unnecessary "rescue mission".

Still, she manages to convince Danny to walk her back to her space ship and he did...or rather, he flew her there.

He soon landed in the same spot where her ship was and the alien princess looked at the ghost boy with a smile. One that was returned.

"Danny, today was simply glorious..."Mandie said in a sincere manner.

The ghost boy nodded.

"Yeah...I gotta admit, today wasn't so bad as I thought it be. I had fun..."Danny said, meaning it.

Mandie smiled.

"So...does this mean that you wanna go again...only next time, as more than friends?..."She asked, while making a flirtatious face.

Danny gave a somber face as he knew what she meant. It was too soon to ask for such a step. But the ghost boy gave a smirk with a shake of his head.

"Mandie, remember...I think I like you more as a friend…"Danny said.

"I see…"Mandie grinned, unfettered by the rejection.

She was still disappointed that he still won't kiss her or marry her, but she also knew that she had just spent an entire day with it and he admitted that he enjoyed himself.

It was progress and right now, that's all she needs to let things be.

Pressed a button, disengaging her disguise and walking towards her ship.

"However…I still want more from you, but I will settle for this...for now…"Mandie said, making it clear that she hasn't given up on him.

Danny sighed as he watched the alien girl walk up and was now within her ship, but hasn't closed the door yet.

She sent him one final look.

"Till next time, Danny…"She said before she blew a kiss and sent him a wink.

Despite it all, Danny found himself blushing but tried to fight it down as he just waved at her.

"Later, Mandie..."He said as he waved good bye.

With that, the door to the space ship closed and the alien girl soon flew her ship upward until it left earth's atmosphere.

Even when she was gone, Danny had to smile.

"I gotta admit, Mandie is a lot more fun when she isn't forcing me into a shotgun wedding..."He thought as he decided to fly home before he misses his curfew.

As he flew, he thought about his entire day of hanging out with Mandie. It was odd but with her not pushing for marriage, attempting to take over the world or picking a fight, she was actually pleasant company, even if there was still some things of this world she doesn't understand yet.

Still, he was just glad there was nothing to go ghost for and that his instincts had been right. He is sure that with enough time and patience things could change for the better.

"Maybe this friendship can work out between us, after all..."The ghost boy thought as he flew home, feeling better than he first did this morning

He kept flying at accelerating to soaring speeds, feeling that things were heading into the right direction
