Chapter 64: From Bad To Worse
"Errrr..."Maurus grunted as he slowly regained consciousness.
"Grr! W-what happened?..."Maurus groaned as he awoke.
He couldn't see too clearly at first, let alone his surroundings as his vision was kind of blurry. But after blinking a few times, his vision returned.
He then looked around. Maurus found himself in the dungeons of Boudica and bound in chains that were seemingly forced onto his knees.
"W-WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS!?..."He shouted, when he was unable to free himself.
Startled, he jumped awake, pulling at his restraints, only to feel the sting of electricity to halt him.
"GAAARRRGGHHH!..."He shouted, as he was zapped.
The Boudacian King was filled with confusion and rage but could do nothing as he body failed to listen to him.
"WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS?!..."He shouted, enraged.
Soon, he got his answer.
"Good, you're awake…"A familiar voice filled with disdain was heard.
The king of Boudacia saw his captor and gasped. He couldn't believe his eyes.
"BRUTIS?!..." Maurus exclaimed, shocked.
He couldn't believe it as the warrior he chose to be his daughter's ideal suitor stepping out of the darkness, looking very smug.
"Comfy? I hope not..." Brutis went, sounding mean.
"Brutis, what is this?!..." Maurus snarled, trying to break free but is then shocked again.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you…unless you wanna be shocked again..."Brutis walked past the guards.
"I order you to release me!..." Maurus demanded, but the Boudacian general scoffed.
"Seriously?! You think you are in position to be barking orders..." British mocked.
Maurus saw the guards and glared at them.
"Guards, release me right now or face the consequences!..." He growled, but they ignored him.
"You think we'll listen to you? You've only ever been the king because of your marriage to Milee... but she's not here..." One guard said.
"I'm so tired of listening to this beast... let's put him to sleep already..." Another suggested.
"Not just yet..." Brutis went.
"Yet?..." Maurus asked, raising a brow.
"You will only live to see Mandie become my queen..." The traitor said with a sadistic smile.
"I told you! I cannot do anything to make it so! I told you to train and to improve yourself so you could beat her in an official challenge like tradition dictates!..." Maurus told him, but the red haired Boudacian glared at him.
"You should have made it so, regardless of that outdated tradition! As king, you could've made her marry me instead of that worthless squid Mark Chang! But you didn't!..." Brutis shouted, like he was the one betrayed.
"I told you! I couldn't and cannot do anything to make it so! Even if I wanted to, Milee insisted that alliance was needed. And even now, she insists that the traditions need to be honored! There was nothing I could do!..." Maurus argued.
"You're right... there's nothing YOU can do as king... but I, on the other hand can..." Brutis whispered.
"W-What are you doing?!..." Maurus shouted. "Stop this at-..."
"SHUT UP! YOU POMPOUS CANINE!..." Brutis shouted, as he punched him across the face.
"URGH!..."Maurus let out, as the traitor kept spewing venomous words at him.
"I am so sick of having to deal with you and kissing up to you just to stay on the royal family's good side! You are the only thing about Mandie I despise! Her father being an outsider yet still sired such a beauty. But it's because of your people's beastly strength and temper that make her resist me... well no more! Because she's off world right now, desperate to be with the one she "loves", that means she's unable to take the throne..." Brutis said, a dark smirk forming on his face.
"With you no longer in the way, I will take the throne and crown myself king!..." He declared.
"You would betray your King?…" Maurus growled with his fangs in full view. "This is treason!..." He shouted, his voice making the area shake slightly.
"You call this treason, but I consider this a righteous revolution to bring the Boudacians back to their proper roots and to restore the natural order..." Brutis said in a indifferent way, clearly not seeing eye to eye with Maurus on his drastic actions.
"Even if you slay me, Milee would never allow such a thing to happen! You could never defeat my daughter in combat. So you stand no chance against her mother!..." Maurus said, not worried since he knew how strong his queen is.
"True...if I were to challenge the Queen, it might not end favorably for me...good thing someone is taking care of her as we speak..." Brutis said in a cocky way.
Maurus panicked and was enraged when he heard that.
"WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY QUEEN?!..." Maurus demanded as he tried to reach Brutis with the intention of tearing him apart, only to be zapped again.
"So hot headed, just like your daughter. No worries, like you, the queen will live...for now. And don't worry... you both won't die... yet. I do need leverage to make Mandie mine, and once she's mine... I'll destroy that little mud-ball that Phantom freak calls home to spite them both!..." Brutis declared shocking the true king of Boudacia.
"You'd destroy a world we could conquer? Are you mad?! That is the only world in this solar system that so far had any sentient life!..." Maurus said, shocked.
"I have no need to conquer every world I see...and that is the world where Phantom humiliated me and stole my bride, I want it reduced to dust...and don't worry, I do plan to find more worlds to conquer...with Mandie...on our honeymoon...after she is finished grieving over you..." Brutis said, making his intentions clear.
"The Boudacians as a whole will never follow a weak king! I am the king and Milee's family has been ruling for generations! YOU ARE TAKING IT WITHOUT PROPERLY PROVING YOURSELF FIT! YOU ARE UNWORTHY FOR THE THRONE!..." Maurus shouted, his fur turning ablaze but the shocks from his chains made him yelp in pain.
"No, I would be a better fit than you. But to be clear, I am the only King to listen to those whose worth to me matters, to further expand the supremacy of the Boudacian Empire. Once MY people see that, my strength won't be an issue to them…"The man said, as he poked Maurus's nose. "You, on the other hand, are to stay here as I restore Boudica to its proper glory!…"He announced.
"That is what I've been trying to do!..." Maurus shouted, only to be zapped again when he moved.
"But clearly you failed, as your daughter wishes to breed with a freak...she needs to be reminded...how things work here..."Brutis said, showing off his petty nature to his captive.
"And then what? Do you think she'll actually obey you? My daughter DESPISES you and always has, ever since you were both pups...and now I finally understand why..." Maurus asks under his breath, feeling regretful that he ever once saw greatness within this traitor.
"I managed to convince many followers that it would be better for me to take the throne. It helps most of them already hated you...and Mandie WILL learn to obey me...After all, my perfect queen is all about obedience..." Brutis said arrogantly, thinking he's won.
Brutis was expecting Maurus to growl to try and break free again, but instead the father of his bride then laughed at him in a low, bitter, almost uncontrollable way.
"WHAT IS SO FUNNY?!..." Brutus demanded, hating how he isn't being shown respect.
"I thought Mandie was being stubborn, that she was wasting her time with that mutated human and she'd be better off as your wife..."He said before looking him in the eye mockingly.
"But it turns out that I was the one wasting his time trying to make an arrogant pup like you into someone worthy to be a king...or even be enough to stand by my daughter's side in any shape or form..."He said, momentarily looking back.
"No, I take that back...calling you a pup would be an insult to actual pups. Even Turner the earth warrior who is nearly half your age who beat my daughter when you could not. He wasn't even old enough to count as a suitor, but even he had more honor than you have!..." Maurus added mockingly.
Brutis' fists clenched tight enough that the veins within them were popping out, looking almost like an anime character.
"I ORDER YOU TO SHUT UP! YOU UGLY BEAST!..."He yelled.
With that, Brutis punches him out, rendering him unconscious once more. While Maurus' chains kept him from hitting the ground as he was left with his arms hanging back and his face mere inches from the dungeons floor. Not that British cared in the slightest.
"Filthy beast, your jaw hurt my fist..." He said, as he gently removed his glove to nurse his slightly bruised knuckles.
Soothing his fist, he looked to the guards.
"Keep him fed, but nothing too healthy or filling. I need him alive... for now..."Brutus said with a cruel smirk.
He wanted this future in-law, even if he'll end up a rug in the end, to live long enough to see Mandie be crowned his queen.
The guards nodded as Brutis left, deciding his coup starts now.
"Soon Mandie. Soon you'll be mine and that freak will learn his place before I destroy the Nasty rock he calls home..."He thought arrogantly, believing that his plan will succeed.
But first, other obstacles to deal with.
One that was closer to home...and one that was on Earth
Meanwhile
Milee, unaware of Brutis betrayal or her husband being in the dungeon, was still in the process of preparing the special dinner for her guest.
She studied the type of food he ate from Mandie's own research on his culture, thus she decided to adopt.
"Let's see... roast of the meat of a Potamo Beast... Shockatrice Teriyak... Phanodon Trunk Meat... Gorotaur Steak... and for dessert... tiramisu..." Milee said with a joyous smile.
"My future son-in-law best know I don't put out quite a spread for everyone, not even my husband. I want my grandchildren to have the finest appetites from their parents. What do you think, would be assassins?" She asks out of nowhere, a faux pleasant expression on her face.
There were gasps from various parts of the room. Boudacians in commando uniforms emerged weapons at the ready.
"How did she know?!..." She heard someone ask, since they must have thought they did a good job hiding themselves.
"Oh please... do you think my daughter got it all from her father? She got his power, abilities and thirst for battle... but she got her skills from me and it's a happy day when the student surpasses her teacher..." Milee said, holding a fork and throwing it near the head of one of those who failed at stealth.
The would be assassins rushed at her with weapons .Milee grabbed a serving spoon and saw no threat from them.
"Oh please..." She said, seeing this as hardly a danger.
She used the spoon like a small club, batting away the first assassins strike before hitting him in the temple.
"GACK!..."He let out before he collapsed in heap at her feet.
"This hardly counts as exercise before dinner..." Milee muttered, before turning to see another enemy charging at her.
She threw the spoon, hitting the second assassin square in the chest and making him fly back crashing into a wall.
Despite their attempt to end her, the attacker felt the need to express how impressed he was.
"Incredible..." One admitted, respecting worthy opponents before passing out.
"Indeed..." Milee said, proud of herself.
His teammate ribbed him for that, and they refused to give up.
"It's just us left! Hold her down!..." One shouted, and the others nodded.
The last three all rush her at once, but Milee leaps up with ease as she dodged them.
"If my husband only bare won, none of your stand a chance..."She said in a cool, unfazed way as she dodged their three way strike.
Milee dropped down and swung her leg downward in an ax kick, breaking their swords with the sole of her boots before she turns on her heel, hinting them all with a crescent kick that brings them all down.
They remained down, and the queen of Boudacia sent them an unimpressed look.
"Pathetic. Looks like I have to overhaul the commando training if five commandos couldn't fall a single opponent..." She muttered, taking a sip from her goblet.
She was about to call the guards and droids to arrest these traitors, when something felt wrong.
"What...the..." She suddenly felt weaker, her vision grew blurry and her eyes were hard to keep.
She coughed as she held onto her throat. Her legs went out as she grabbed onto a chair to brace herself. She recognized these symptoms and realized what must have happened.
"P-Poison?!..." She coughed out, knowing this feeling well.
She tossed the goblet away and tried to stand up. However, her knees gave out as she went on all fours.
"This...this can't be! Dieana scanned everything, there's no way any poison should have made its way passes a loyal servant unle-..." Milee fell to the floor as someone entered the room.
"Still alive? I'm honestly impressed. I put enough Sentori heart root into your drink to poison a fleet of Yugopatamians..."Was heard.
Milee, barely holding onto her consciousness, found the strength to lift her head to see who did this to her.
It was someone whom she trusted.
"Y-You..."She said weakly, before groaning, on the brink of passing out.
The one who poisoned her checked her pulse and saw that she is not dead, just weakened.
"I'm truly sorry your highness, I'd hoped to spare you the pain of a mother losing her only child..." Her poisoner said in faux sympathy, clearly wanting to be rid of her queen's said child.
"D-don't you dare ha-..." Milee mumbled before her lights went out.
She remained mentioned a but not dead yet. Her enemy sent her a condescending smirk.
"A gift from one queen of Boudacia to another..." The enemy said as she had a droid carry the unconscious body of the queen away.
She took one breath, knowing she's crossed a line. However, the prize outweighed any guilt she had.
"Just a bit more... and the throne will belong to Brutis. And I will sit with him..." She thought, unaware of what his real intentions were.
Elsewhere
Mandie, unaware of what was happening on her planet, just passed the Milky way.
She was approaching new Boudacian borders, she was a couple of light years away before reaching her planets atmosphere.
As the ship was on autopilot, the alien princess was nervous but was in a good mood.
After all, what was to come could change things or, more precisely, improve upon what she already had with Phantom.
"Okay... today is the day..." Mandie said as she took breaths. "The day Danny sees we are truly soulmates and in love, and Mother and Father give us our blessing, or at least get mother's blessing and get her to force father to give up on trying to convince me to marry that idiot Brutis..."She said out loud, trying to ready herself and focus.
She couldn't understand what he saw in a power hungry grub like Brutis, especially when Danny was much more worthy.
She figured she could just banish Brutis, but she'd rather Danny let her deal with it the old fashioned way. That meant putting Brutis in a body cast for the rest of his worthless life but her parents may oppose that.
"Problems are so much easier when you can punch them..." Mandie thought, before shaking her head.
She knew Danny was against going that far, but part of her wanted to get away with it. No, she knew that was wrong to think. She just had to be smart about it and to not be forceful, after all, Mandie had a good thing going with her beloved half-ghost prince-to-be and had no desire for it all to go downhill if she pressured Danny in their relationship or went too far, as he once put it.
The thought of Danny calmed her. She was, as the humans say, on "Cloud nine" when it came to the young warrior.
No one in either universe ever made her feel like he did and she wanted to make sure that their future together would be ideal.
"Everything has to go perfectly, I just gotta prove to Mother and Father how wonderful Danny is and they'll practically give us the throne..." She thought, believing that nothing could go wrong.
Unknown to Mandie, someone was plotting against her and just planted something special in her ship and would make sure her plans wouldn't come to fruition.
Back on Boudacia
While Brutis dealt with Maurus and their minions dealt with the unconscious queen, someone else had their eyes on the princess.
It was Dieana, who was glaring at Mandie's ship from afar using an advanced telescope.
She was incensed as she plotted her own plan to secure her future and get revenge at the same time.
"Alright, you half-breed spoiled brat, my thankless years of serving you are over..." She whispered in hatred, wanting to insure that she wouldn't steal with what was hers.
It had been incredibly easy to plant something on the princess's ship when she wasn't looking, just like how it was easy to drug the queen's wine when she was distracted by that decoy attack.
As the queen was being locked up, Dieana checked her pad to see when her plan would finish.
She had one goal in mind... To get rid of the competition.
To prove to Brutis he deserved a more faithful queen, one who would ensure he'd have many heirs... namely her. And to make sure that Mandie would NEVER get the chance to even be considered to be a candidate for such glorious role.
"For your betrayal, I give you our worst punishment for a traitor...Banishment..."Dieana typed on the pad, activating the explosive device to go off at a very precise moment during the Princess Mandie's flight through space.
The device locked itself onto the engine. The timer display lit up, counting down the seconds as the hand maiden walked away.
She smiled to herself wickedly as she left the hangar.
"And not just from the planet, but I digress...maybe you'll feel better back home..." She added lowly. "Or better yet, you'll feel like the traitorous scum you truly are for turning your back on Boudacia and its traditions..." She said, evilly grinning prematurely at her supposed victory over Mandie.
She knew the risks, but she knew the reward was too great not to get. It had taken a substantial bribe to keep the scientist who'd discovered the way back to their home galaxy silent but it was going to pay off.
After all, Dieana had her own schedule in the proceedings of the Boudecian Empire's future in this and the next universe they will eventually find themselves in.
The lovestruck traitor thought about her beloved Brutis and all the rewards she would receive due to her loyalty and for taking the initiative. Namely, to be his queen and grant him the heirs he truly deserved.
"Brutis is gonna be so surprised and happy. I will tell this story to our heirs when they soon come of age..."She said, thinking this would be a wonderful wedding gift for her beloved.
As she remained in the dark on what he really wanted, she let her mind wander. Imagining all the events and later conquests for their Empire on the near future. For her and her beloved new king.
"Two universes ripe for conquering and who knows maybe even more are out there to discover. It will be a wonderful idea for our honeymoon..." She thought giddily, imagining Brutis having his arm around her.
For her, Queen Dieana was a guarantee.
Back with Mandie
Mandie was still flying her ship, blissfully unaware on what was going on in her home planet.
"I hope that Danny will enjoy our take on teriyaki, given shockatrice is the closest thing we have to chickens..." She thought, hoping for the best.
However, it was then she took notice of something on the side of her ship started beeping. It was a sound she never heard in her ship before.
Getting up, she looked around. Setting the ship on autopilot, she looked left and right for the cause.
"Computer? What am I hearing?..." Mandie asked, seeing as she couldn't find the source of the beeping on the surface level of her ship.
"Unknown... source of noise is a device not part of the ship..." Was heard.
"Where is it coming from?..." She asked, getting a bad feeling about this.
"Unknown device detected beneath your seat..." The computer went, showing a digital schematic of the ship and the location of said device.
"Huh?!..."
Mandie reached underneath, pulling out a box-like object.
"What do we have here? This looks an awful lot like an experimental portal device mother's scientists were experimenting on prior to our arrival in this universe..." Mandie said as she stared at it further.
"It also... looks like... A BOMB?!..." She exclaimed, not reacting fast enough to dispose of the device properly.
That's when it went off.
"AHH!..." Mandie screamed, as it exploded.
The shockwave of the blast sent Mandie flying to the wall. Thankfully, she was pretty tough and wasn't killed, just taken back. She tried to get up but was horrified to see what was happening before her eyes.
"WHAT THE HECK?!..."
It opened up some kind of hole, glowing bright white as it was growing. The space around her began to warp and swirl.
Mandie gasped as she saw the status report.
"What is this?! A WORMHOLE? Made for dimensional banishment?!..."Mandie went wide eye and gasped.
Everything was coming together. And only one word came from her mouth.
"BRUTIS!..."She said, screaming out that name on pure rage.
This meant it was not just she in danger, knowing the manchild would not stop at one act of betrayal. She recalled her parents and the rest of her people. Fear crawled through her as she opened communication channels.
"Attention! This is Princess Mandie of Boudacia! General Brutis has planted a worm hole generator bomb in my ship! Alert, Brutis is a traitor! Come, protect the royal family and execute the oath breaking slime like the dog he is!..." Mandie tried to broadcasting to all Boudacian ships spread across the galaxy, but it failed.
The circuits sparked, exploding as the ship interior turned red with warning. Her console erupted as she saw fragments embedded in the keyboard.
"What's going on?!..." She screamed, all while at a lost on what went wrong in her ship.
"Error... unknown device attached to engine..." The ship's computer said. "System's failure. S-sys-ss-s-t-e-em fai-..."
The ship's computer shut off as the power went out. It seemed that her enemies didn't just place a wormhole bomb, she placed the means of shutting down the engine by overpowering it.
"This will not stand!..."Mandie declared "I'll..."
And she said no more as her ship imploded. The bright light grew before her ship entered the wormhole.
Nothing left.
