Chapter 19- Third Round: Battles meets: Retaliation and Innovations
Guys, I haven't bashed anyone in a while and I feel a little tingly all over at the prospects of this chapter. If you don't like the idea, fine break my poor writer's heart and skip(つ﹏ 。)
Chapter 19- Third Round: Battles meets: Retaliation and Innovations
The crowd was still buzzing from the hard-core battle that happened just a few minutes ago. Many of the Pro Heroes were shocked at such power displayed, while others wrote it off as nothing more than just one shot things.
"I don't know man. Those girls looked hella strong to me." A Pro hero in a fairy suit said.
"Nah, those girl's quirks were nothing but flashy lights and tricks, nothing to write about." A guy in a tiger onesie dismissed.
"You think? But then again, they are just children and they could be playing all that, just to get our attention." The fairy Pro hero said.
"Exactly! I bet those sisters just had some effects quirks. No way they could really do that much damage, especially in first year. They're just kids after all."
Some of the students from 1-A couldn't really wrap their head around the battle. Some were shocked, impressed or both at what they saw.
"Okay, this is seriously insane! Like, do they drink dynamite before each meal or what?!" Kaminari exclaimed, not wrapping his mind around the battle they just saw.
"Well I did guess those girls were strong, but I could never imagine abilities like those." Tsu muttered to herself, a little surprised at what she saw as well.
"That was such a manly battle! I just hope I experience a battle like that soon!" Kirishima exclaimed, sobbing at the beauty of the battle he saw. People were sweat dropping at his words.
"Oh man. I didn't realize that the competition was going to be this tough." Uraraka drawled.
"SHUT UP, YOU EXTRAS! IT WAS NOTHING SPECIAL!" Bakugo growled at his class mates.
"Oh please Bakugo. Even you can appreciate the sheer strength shown in the battle that happened." Jirou chided the blonde hothead.
"I don't have to do anything! Especially praise something that wasn't even special!" Bakugo continued.
Izuku was another story, for he got a glimpse of his competition and realized that it was going to need for research. But he could not help picking up a bit of their conversation in the battle and realize that everyone had their own insecurities as well.
'I hope Bubbles is okay though.' He mentally asked himself.
-Break room-
After the match, the sisters regrouped to tackle a certain issue that needed to be taken care of. So after a quick, mandatory routine check with Recovery Girl, who gave a blunt comment to her new assistant.
"You know what to do, I expect for you to do it!" Making the raven haired girl a little ticked and left nonetheless.
They went to the locker room to have a more quiet talk with one of their sisters.
Blossom was sitting next to her youngest sister, as she did her best to comfort her. "Okay Bubbles. You have been acting strange since these battles started, we want to know if something went wrong or if someone said anything to you."
Bubbles just looked sad and defeated.
"Come on Bubs. I know you wanted to win the competition, but are you honestly that sad about it?" Buttercup asked in an exasperated tone.
"Says the girl who was ready to burn down a whole stadium, because a certain boy took her points." Blossom reminded her with a smirk.
"Zip. It. Red." Buttercup said through gritted teeth, a bit embarrassed at herself.
She turned her attention back to Bubbles. "Come on Bubbles. We told each other that we would always try to help one another out if we are in a situation. We couldn't before but we are here now. So please, talk to us." Blossom asked, with a pleading voice. Bubbles cracked and gave a little sob, for which both girls comforted her through it.
"I-it's just that…I have been feeling a bit down lately about the battles and what the jerk guy said to me earlier." The two girls wanted to drill for more information, but opted to let her finish her explanation.
After a few minutes had passed, with Bubbles mentioning everything about a guy named Shinso, and his comments; just to get a rise out of her. Then early with Todoroki and his familial troubles, both girls understood that the feelings and energy would be a little too intense for her at the moment and wound up getting the best of her.
"So that's why that guy looked so smug." Blossom said, a realization at that.
"I'm sorry guys. I know if I was stronger, I could have-"
"Ah stop your crying, you big baby." That made the blonde girl flinch and braced for a telling off. "You are not weak at all. I already said that you are just as strong as Red and I are and I meant it. So you not going let some jealous general studies jerk putting you down for being awesome, Right?!" Buttercup demanded.
Bubbles nodded at that.
"Good." Buttercup sighed. "Look Bubs. I get that you were feeling down and out, but you just need to remember that Red and I don't think you're weak at all. Sure we may have implied it when we were kids, but right now I am telling that you are and always have been strong and in other ways than just strength. Understand Bubbles?" Bubbles gave a small smile. That was enough to put a smile on her own face too, but she wouldn't show that.
At that moment there was a small tremor that shook the building a little and the girls in the room.
"What the Fuck was that?!" Buttercup exclaimed.
"Look guys." Bubbles pointed towards the TV screen and just then they saw a massive iceberg formed on the stage, with their classmate Sero trapped inside, looking frozen.
"Welp, someone's having a bad day." Buttercup rolled her eyes.
"And we now have a sense of why." Blossom sighed, giving one last hug to her sister before she stood up. "Well, I better go and get ready for my battle." Walking to the door leading out.
"Hey Red!" Buttercup called out.
"Yeah Buttercup?" Standing by the door leading out.
"Show. Him. Hell." She said, looking at her like she knows what to do.
She looked at her youngest and still can't let that once sad expression go. "Don't worry guys. Just make sure to come watch." And with that, she left.
Buttercup nodded in satisfaction. "Alright Bubs, time to support our sister." She stood up, ready to roll.
"Um, Buttercup." Bubbles trailed.
"Yeah? Hope you're not still feeling bad or down anymore?" She interrogated her, eyebrow cocked high.
"No it's just…" She didn't finish her words, before holding her second oldest sister in tight hug. "…thank you." She whispered in to her neck.
"Ah jeez! Enough with the mushiness, we are going to be late." She tried to protest, but she didn't really try that hard. "Okay Bubs, it's no problem." She reciprocated the hug for another minute, before they finally left. A smile on her face.
Blossom was walking down the hallways, on her way to her match. Tying her hair up, she was lost in thought. 'Hmm, I wonder how this will play out.' She was musing to herself, when a sort of argument was caught by her ears.
"Shoto, when are you going to quick this foolishness and do what I say?" The tone of the voice sounded so angry. She stood to around the corner and peeked in to what was happening.
"I already told you that I won't use your power. I will only use hers." She recognized the voice, it was from Todoroki and he sounded frustrated.
Endeavor scoffed, "You think that is enough to win in life? To reach our goals?!" He pressed his son.
"My only goal is to achieve in life without your useless power!" His voice rose slightly with indignation.
That didn't sit well with Endeavor. He pulled on his son's arm, stopping him in his tracks, to the slight surprise of Todoroki. "Listen here you ungrateful-" He didn't get a chance to finish before he was shoved right against the wall by an unknown force; not enough knock him unconscious but enough to cause a big dent in the wall.
Todoroki was stunned for a second at what happened, before he scoured the place for who or what did that, till he found that there was no other person here.
Third Match: Blossom K. vs Shinso
"All I can say is that, after a match like that, I will be needing a warm blanket if I have to continue" Mic said, looking over to his co-host, snuggled in his sleeping bag. So warm and cozy. "Hey Shota, can we just-"
"Don't even think about it." Aizawa protested.
"Fine, let me freeze to death." Mic whined, before going back to the match.
"And now for our third match we have another one of the Kayama sisters, the girl with fiery red hair and extra fire to her smarts, Blossom Kayama!" Mic introduced the girl from Class 1-A, Blossom walked calmly across the field and into the ring. She looked over to see her class mates and her sisters.
"Go Blossom!" Bubbles cheered loudly.
"Show them what you got, Ice princess!" Buttercup mocked. But she waved nonetheless.
"Her opponent is the General Studies student, Hitoshi Shinso!" Present Mic introduced as Shinso walked towards the ring.
Shinso just looked around with his hands in his pockets, relatively at ease. He looked at his opponent with his tired beady eyes, for which Blossom didn't pay much attention to.
"Are you both ready?" Midnight looked between the two.
"Yes, ma'am." The both said at the same time.
"Alright, then you may begin!" Midnight declared as she cracked her whip to begin the match.
As the roar of the crowd died down. The tension on the stage was almost palpable between the two opponents.
'Is she not going to strike first? Oh well, might as well have my fun and make her.' He smiled at his thought before initiating his plan.
"So tell me, you're that blonde girl's sister, right? Must suck to have a weakling like that for a sister, eh?" He kept pressing but she gave no reaction but a blank expression. "Hm, might be tricky, this one." He said to himself.
"Honestly, I am not surprised you are not defending your sister. If I had a weakling like that for a sister, I would be silent too. It's sad that the hero course allows just about anyone in. But what do I expect when the qualifications are flashy and privileged having quirks." He smiled when he saw she was moving, but it faltered when he saw she was just removing the ribbon from her hair, letting it down her ponytail.
People were also confused at the lack of any fighting going on.
"What is she doing? Is she seriously not going to fight that guy?" A student from another class asked.
"Maybe she has already given up?" A student pondered.
"Hmm." Tsu hummed to herself. Turning to the others. "Do you guys have any ideas as to why she is not attacking yet?" She asks.
"No clue. Never pegged Blossom to be so vain about her looks to stop in a middle of a battle and fix her hair." Kaminari shrugged as he remarked.
"Maybe she thinks he is too strong to face. No shame in giving up I suppose." Uraraka commented with a reassuring smile. "Hey Deku, what do you-" She then saw Izuku as well as the sisters looking intensely at the scene. She didn't know why they were watching, while it seemed like nothing was happening.
"Honestly, I heard that the hero class was full of snobs and wannabe heroes. But I didn't think they would be so vain as well. Let me guess, you did that as well when you were fighting those weak ass villains? I bet they were nothing major, but still managed to make you all famous." He was starting to get annoyed at the lack of response. Blossom was looking at him with a bored expression, as she now adjusted her ribbon it in to a headband.
"Don't just stand there! Answer me! What, you think suddenly you're in hero class, your too good to speak to us none heroes?! Stop basking in your glory! Your sister would have-"
"How about you take your own advice and start the battle already." Blossom calmly but sternly replied. Shinso finally smirked, knowing full well that his quirk should take effect right now.
He regained his composure. "Ah, so you do speak, good. How about you apologize for being so rude and leave the stage for me." He was waiting for the game to end, until-
"Excuse me, but I don't take orders from bullies who pick on my sister!" A scowl now adorned her face, hands on her hips, as she glared at her bewildered opponent.
"H-how are y-you not-" Spluttering over his words.
"Brainwashed? Can't really say. Better for you to find out yourself." A devilish smirk now crossed her face. Shinso could not believe what was happening.
-Announcer Booth-
"Wow folks! I can't really tell you how much this match has turned to one's side!" Mic announced, before something his friend said caught his attention and took a break.
"Interesting. Very interesting. This is why the entrance exams are flawed." Aizawa mused to himself, as he watched battle.
"Hm, why's that?" Mic questioned, turning away from what seems to be a unproductive match.
"I have some information compiled about our competitors. Shinso's quirk is incredibly strong but the entrance exam favoured fighting faux villains, robots, basically giving advantage to those with physical attack Quirks. Shinso wouldn't have been able to rack up any points with his Quirk."
"I highly disagree with you there, Shota." Mic and Aizawa turned around to the voice, that could only be from-
"Principle Nezu."
"Yes it's me. You wondering Principle, who may be a dog, mouse, bear. I don't know." He said cheerfully, a small smile on his face.
"Principle Nezu, what are you doing here? I thought you would be at third year's Sports competition?" Mic questioned.
"Right, you see, I wanted to stop by and take a look at this year's competition for a change and see who catches my eye." He explained as he walked over to the two.
"I see." Aizawa drawled.
"Indeed. Now, I was making a point of how I do not fully agree with your judgement. On the matter of how the entrance favours strength quirks than the rest."
"Oh…" Mic sounded intrigued.
He nodded with a smile. "But it is better that you continue the commentary of the match, as this battle is the perfect example I can use." He gestured to his colleagues, who soon went back to the match.
"Hitoshi Shinso, Quirk: Brainwashing! Answering his question turns on a brainwashing switch in his opponent's brain, forcing them to do what he says! If he doesn't want the brainwashing switch to turn on, it won't!" Mic announced.
"I don't understand, my quirk should be active! You're supposed to be under my control!" Shinso shouted, losing his calm composure.
Blossom didn't pay any mind but flipped her hair.
"Stop ignoring me! Answer me!" Shinso shouted, frustration written all over his face.
"Alright, if you wish." She complied, walking over to the boy. Shinso was taken back at sudden her approach, but had no other choice but to physically fight her instead.
"Honestly, I find you quite sad." That statement was enough to make Shinso throw the first punch, but was swiftly evaded by the target.
"All I have been hearing for the past 5 minutes is you droning on and on about how you were dealt a bad hand and that us Class 1-A heroes have it easy. Even Mojo Jojo doesn't talk as much as you" Shinso didn't know whi the heck she was talking about, as he was focused on trying to land a blow.
"You honestly think it's easy that we got attacked by villains, on our first day? You think we had it easy, having to use our little training to fend against villains who had no qualms about killing us kids? But what do I expect from someone who must live their whole life hating all those who he hasn't meet but deems their powers are 'privileges'."
"Shut up! You know nothing about my life." Going in for a pathetic right hook that she manages to catch, much to his frustration. "You're right, I don't know anything about your life, just like you know jack squat about any of ours!" Her voice now rose.
She threw the fist to the side, in a moment of being off balanced; she gave her own right hook that sent the guy stumbling backwards. Momentarily cradling hi cheek, as a bruise would most likely form.
Blossom stretched her fingers. "Honestly, as my other sister would say, you are weak. I am no martial arts specialist, but it looks like you don't even work out, evident by the lack of reflexes." She commented.
Shinso quickly straightened himself out, darting forwards at Blossom, ready to attack. Eyes narrowed in anger.
She blocked each attempt at an attack. Gave a few jabs back at his chest, shoulders and arms. Blossom dodged some more attacks, before fully going on the offensive. In her game face, she now charged at her opponent. She gave punches after punches, a high kick to his jaw and a cross slap that shook his senses. Not giving him much time, she gave a round house kick that had Shinso fall to the ground, wheezing. He crawled away on his back, spouting out insult after insult. Blossom kept a level head, walking over to the fallen boy.
"So that's your strategy, huh?" Shinso sneers, getting up. "Make an ass of me before you throw my dreams down the toilet? Not much of hero are y-" Blossom activated her powers, lifting Shinso few inches off the ground, facing her with her pink glowing eyes.
"Will you shut up?! Honestly, all you have been doing has been droning about how my sisters and the rest of my class don't deserve to be in the hero course, being privilege and all that; as if you know anything. But like you said, I know nothing about your life but I understand that people look down on you for your powers; siting that it's a villain quirk, right?" He didn't answer, maybe because he was too stunned at what was happening or he knew she was right to even disagree. "You wanted to be a hero so bad, then stop being a total whiny brat and work on yourself and stop relying on your quirk so much, for there can be more people like and my sisters." Realization crossed the boy's eyes.
"Yeah, that little trick won't work on me or my sisters, especially the "weakling" you mentioned so many times." Shinso at this time was thrashing and trying to break free from her hold, but Blossom was not having it. "You know what, the match is over, how about if you're so worried about your dreams, then actually train and be better." Dropping the guy with a thud.
"I think we're done here." She walked away, turning her back at her defeated opponent. She paused, to hear him running over at her. She gave a deep sigh. Before the punch could make contact to the back of her head. Blossom ducked, and sent a telekinetic blast that pushed him out of bounds. Shinso was deemed unconscious by Midnight.
"Shinso is unable to continue! Blossom is the winner!" Midnight announced as the stands erupted into applause for the match. Many of the martial arts style heroes were amazed at the raw skills of Blossom, while others were bored at her none use of her quirk.
Buttercup turned to her classmates with a smirk. "Anyone still think that she was afraid to fight or not taking it seriously?" She asked rhetorically, seeing all the blank faces.
"No." Certain people said in unison.
While some of her classmates were impressed by Blossom's lack of use of her quirk. Some were looking at her with at most focus, certain thoughts going through their head. 'That blast. Could it be?'
Blossom left the stage with a blank face, but inside she was holding back a smirk.
-Announcer's Booth-
"Wow Shota, did you see that?! You really have some real kick butt students this year!" Mic exclaimed, quite impressed at the battle he saw.
"Well, I can still see some holes in her strategy. Underestimating her opponent is one thing." Aizawa commented.
"That is my cue to argue." The chimera said, a small smirk that could be passed off as innocent.
"How so, Principal Nezu?" He questioned, unamused.
"First off, to your early statement about the entrance exams. I can see to an extent that it seemed we worked the exam around those students with strength quirk or destructive ones, but I must remind you that this is a hero school and as such we also look for ways of how our students deal with villains, other than with brute strength off course. I must also remind you that certain students in your class have, dare I say, non-combative quirks that still made it on to the hero course. Ones such as Ochaco Uraraka, Toru Hagakure and at the beginning, Koji Koda, who used their innovative minds to make do with what they had at that time. And I have not even talked about some of the other students in Class 1-B."
Mic hummed, "That is true." Looking at the logic of the whole situation.
Nezu nodded. "And in any case, this match has proven to me that, although Shinso Hitoshi has a powerful and useful quirk, he has rather relied on it too heavily to really work on something else. I believe you have this saying Shota, 'You can't be a one trick pony type hero' or something like that? I also remember that you rose the ranks at a certain Sports Festival some years ago, after some much needed training and discipline. I would hope you understood after, that hard work and dedication is what can make a person a hero, whether or not you have a strong quirk or not."
Aizawa seemed to be losing some footing, but he didn't let it show on his face. He still believed that the exams were still a little biased.
Nezu turned to look at Aizawa directly. "Honestly Shota, I am surprised that you even forgot the student Mirio, who might I add is well known around the school as part of the famous three and his quirk is not really a strength enhancing or flashy quirk."
He didn't reply, just shifted his eyes as if he didn't really consider all what the Principal said; just shrunk in his chair with a sigh. Nezu, with a slightly bigger smirk that before, knew that he had essentially trumped out the tired teachers logic and left it at that, as he left.
As Blossom went to regroup with her sisters at the stands, she was welcomed back with a thank you hug from Bubbles, who enjoyed her big sister beating the crap out of the guy, for which Buttercup couldn't have said it better herself. She was glad that it made her feel better, in a petty and sadistic sort of way. She however, felt a pair of eyes stare at her from across the row, but didn't act upon her suspicions, leaving it for another time.
The rest of the first round match went on as normal. The next match was between Kirishima and Tetsutetsu. Everyone watched closely upon the match, wondering how two people with such similar quirks, were going to fight. Well according to Buttercup, it was not much different than a boxing much, where the goal was who can knock out the other with a single punch. She was impressed at the two muscle heads being able to give and take a punch from one from one another. She did notice green bean was jotting down some ideas in his notebook from the fight, his mumbling was annoying, but she unfortunately got used to it. Bubbles was her happy, bubbly self, talking with the Koda guy, which was good in all. She did notice Blossom was watching the redhead's match, quite closely if she was being honest but chalked it to her being a massive nerd who likes to analyse stuff like a certain greenhead friend she knew.
The match however ended in a draw that would be later decided with a tie breaker. Most people were impressed with the durability of the two students quirks in the end, and how there is potentiality in its offensive and defensive capabilities in a fight.
The next match was between Iida and Hatsume. The moment they stepped on to the stage, Blossom had a feeling that the eccentric inventor was up to something, seeing the support gear that her male classmate had on. She told her sisters about her time working with the said girl and how smart, innovative she was, but she was also a bit crazy. The girls didn't understand what she meant by that, until they had a good view at the girl's support gear showcase. For the next ten minutes, she used Iida to unveil and showcase her products to the support companies, describing her 'babies' in loving detail and how it could be used in the field.
"Phew…" Mei wiped her face of sweat. "I believe they've seen it all now." The manic pink-haired inventor looked very pleased with her showing.
"Hatsume is out of the ring! Iida moves on to the next round!" Midnight's announcement was met with silence as the whole crowd -the teacher's included- just stared flatly at the pinkette.
"YOU DECEIVED ME!" Iida cried out as he witnessed Mei just give up on the match entirely. He was almost hunched over in disbelief as he stared at her in shock.
"Sorry…for using you like that…" Mei apologized, but she was still lightly chuckling under her breath at how well her plan had worked.
"I really dislike you!" Iida declared as he pointed at her with his arm fully extended. The teen was shaking in a mixture of embarrassment and rage.
The whole thing was quite sad but funny. Buttercup was doubled over in laughter at the whole situation.
The next match was between Kaminari, Class 1-A and Ibara, Class 1-B. Buttercup recognized her from Todoroki's team and instantly felt her aura flicker out, before cooling her emotions and watching how far this match will go. Spoiler alert, it didn't go so far, lasted about two seconds after Ibara totally blocked Kaminari's attack, short circuiting his brain; leaving him open to the mercy of the girl's vine restraints.
"Ah yeah! Way to represent Class 1-B!" Tetsutetsu exclaimed as he cheered his fellow classmates.
"Man, she's good." Jirou said nervously.
"Her powers are quite impressive, but…I love her hair the most." Bubbles said in joy.
"I can give it to her, that ability is cool." Buttercup admitted under her breath.
"No need to be so jealous, Class 1-A losers." A certain voice called out to the entire class. They turned their heads to see a certain student, who they realized was from Class 1-B. A guy with short slick blonde hair, his irises are a periwinkle blue, his pupils white, and his eyes are shaped so that they're slanting downwards towards the far sides of his face, usually left half-closed; this, along with his signature smirk and head tilt, gives him a rather contemptuous look.
"Didn't he say he'd settle this in a second? That's strange, he was defeated in a second, wasn't he? Class A is supposed to be better than Class B, so isn't that weird?" Monoma laughed cynically at his jokes.
"Why you-" Before Buttercup could redirect her anger at the pretentious jerk, the sound of a karate chop was heard.
People were silenced for a few seconds, seeing as a girl, that seemed to also be from the guy's class, chided him, mumbled out an apology before dragging his unconscious self back to their seats. That left people to have one collective thought running. 'That guy is weird.'
After the weird encounter, Bubbles was just trying to focus on the match, when he Izuku meticulously write in a charred up notebook of his. "Er… whatcha doing, Izuku?" Bubbles asked, curiosity taking over.
Izuku nearly jumped at her question, as if he just realized she was there. Slowly, he sat up and turned to her.
"Oh… um, nothing much." Izuku finally replied before holding up the book. "I've just been writing down a few notes about everyone's Quirks! I just like analysing certain people's quirks and seeing what makes them tick."
"Have… you been writing in the book for all of the matches?" Bubbles asked, saying the question Blossom wanted to hear so badly.
Izuku nodded without hesitation, flipping through the pages. "Yeah. It's a habit of mine, see? I always want to know more about people's powers and skills! These battles great way to observe every aspect of the… intriguing Quirks I come across." At his last sentence, Izuku got a little quiet, glancing around as if he just let a big secret slip. "Or… something like that."
"That IS a very useful notebook to have then!" Tenya mused. "Figuring out your fellow competitors' weaknesses and strengths so you know how to adapt to them in combat."
Blossom could not sit silent for any longer. "You must be careful, Izuku." That got the green haired boy to whip his head at her. "That is a helpful book, but if you're every bit as smart and calculative as I know you are. Those thoughts and analysis notes will need to be kept safe, or risk being used for evil, understood?" Blossom knew that Izuku was a good person and would not use any ideas he got from her or her sisters against them, for evil. But she did make sure that they did not show all their cards, in case the book falls in to the wrong hands. It also helps that they kindly asked that he does not write much about them in the first place.
"AH! Well- I mean you're right. Something like that could be used to bring down heroes to their knees." Izuku squeaked, as he really understood how that could sound. "That's not really what my notebook is intended for-"
"Still, it does provide a great source!" Tenya insisted, stiffly nodding in approval, much to the girls' eye rolls. "After all, it is a great precaution to know your enemy before you fight them. Isn't that right, Uraraka?"
But as Tenya turned to the brown-haired girl, he saw that she was gone.
"Oh yeah, that's right. Isn't her battle next?" Buttercup casually asked.
"Yeah she's fighting Kacchan." Those words were enough to make Buttercup understand without further explanation, for the first time in a while, she felt bad for the girl.
"Alright you two, let's look for her." Saying those words, surprised the two boys, but they followed nonetheless.
-Waiting room-
As Iida opened the door, with two more people behind, a girls voice greeted them. "Oh Iida, I never got to say good work before, you did great out there." Anyone could tell that he was still not happy at the outcome but nevertheless remained calm.
"Oh, Urarak- Whoa, what's with that face!" Iida not so subtly exclaimed.
"My face?" Uraraka questioned, having a face of slight torment on.
"He means, your face looks like when a dead man goes to war." Buttercup bluntly remarked, much to the shock on Iida's face.
"Oh, it's just my nerves…Guess I'm not so good at hiding my emotions." She said embarrassingly.
'Obviously.' Buttercup thought. "I see…You're up against Bakugo, after all. Not exactly an easy fight." Iida spoke.
Uraraka lowered her head, face full of worry she tried to hide with a smile. "Yeah, I'm really scared. But seeing your match, I felt much better." She said it with a smile.
"What…do you mean?" Iida asked, but with Buttercup's failure to hide her laughter, he knew what she meant.
"Uraraka!" Izuku stepped towards he with concern. "Deku!" That name made Buttercup stop her laughter.
"Huh? Weren't you all watching the matches?"
"Well, most matches are done, yours is remaining before mine though." He said, feeling a bit guilty about going after her and getting more time to prepare.
"I'm next. My fight." She said it in a way as if to brace herself.
"It will be okay, I don't think Bakugo would use the full-strength explosions on a girl." That made a certain girl ticked.
"WHAT DOES BEING A GIRL HAVE TO DO WITH THIS?!" Buttercup demanded to know, making Iida flinch a bit.
"N-n-nothing, I was just implying that Bakugo might go lenient and maybe would not-" He tried to justify and explain himself, but was cut-off by the green haired boy.
"He would." Izuku said with a serious face. That got a slight whimper from the brunette . "Everyone's trying to become number one to make their dreams come true." As he says that, he had a mental image of Bakugo's devilish smirk. "Even if it's not Kacchan, no one would think about holding back.
"But Uraraka." As he said that, he pulls out one of his notebooks from his pockets. "There's something I need to give to you!"
Ochaco looked at him, a little confused. "What are you-"
"In here I crafted a plan for you! I listed all of Kacchan's weaknesses and strengths, and I also came up with a course of action on how you can knock him out. With this, you're BOUND to win the battle and move on!"
Tenya brightened at the idea. "Ah, I see! This would be a great strategy to prepare for battle!"
Buttercup just stared at them, not saying anything as they continued. Ochaco nodded, smiling. "Yeah! You really outdid yourself! Thank you. But…" Instantly, the last word of Ochaco's sentence caught the three's attention.
"But…?" Buttercup questioned, a cocked eyebrow.
As they stared at her quizzically, Ochaco sighed before sitting up with a determined stare. "I won't be needing the notebook, Deku. Or the strategy inside."
This statement shocked the other two.
"What?" Iida gasped. "Perhaps, you shouldn't be too hasty, Uraraka. This could become a helpful crutch to fall back on!" He insisted.
Ochaco nodded. "I agree. Which is why I'm refusing it."
The two boys quieted at her words, while Buttercup continued to listen.
"You don't want anyone else's help, do you?" Buttercup asked, knowing the answer.
Ochaco fidgeted with her uniform. "Um, kind of. Not exactly. It's not that I don't want it. I just don't need it."
"How come?" Tenya asked.
Ochaco pressed her lips together. "I… I don't want to feel weak compared to others, you know! I realize that all this time, I've been relying on people too much. Even in the Capture the flag event, Blossom was so strong to face up against those many people by herself, even if Hatsume was there or not. She had her own strength, as does Deku."
Izuku's eyes softened. "Uraraka-"
"It's okay. There's nothing wrong with teamwork. But, now?" Ochaco stood up and curled her fists. "I can't do that. Only I can get me through this battle. Once I'm on that Battlefield, it'll be me vs Bakugo." Moving past them, as she made her way to the door. "Everyone is giving it their all and that makes us rivals, including you and me, Deku." She shot a narrowed eyed glance at Buttercup, who shot her own; though no one saw it. "All of you. So, I will see you all in the finals." She said with a shaky but slightly determined smile. With that, she left.
"I don't get it, why wouldn't she accept the help? Doesn't she know that she is weaker compared to-"
A loud slam echoed through the room, making Iida and Izuku flinch in surprise. But were more scared at the glare that Buttercup was giving them. "Are you fricking serious or your THAT DENSE?" Buttercup asked low and intimidating tone.
"I was just remarking-" "Shut up!" That made him silence, but still look unchallenged.
"Brunette said that she wants to do things on her own and we have to respect that. Whether she wins or loses, it doesn't matter…so how about you get your old fashion head out of your ass and think about what you said. Idiot." As she concluded, she moved passed the two boys in a huff, leaving them alone. Iida looked quite insulted, "I was only stating a fact. Honestly, some people can't accept the truth." He said, as he left as well, while Izuku couldn't help maul over what she said.
Seventh Match: Bakugo vs Ochaco
Instantly, people scrambled for their seats, making sure not to forget anything as they did. Once everyone was prepared, they kept their gaze locked on the battle arena.
But before she could say anything, cheers suddenly shook the stadium as Present Mic spoke again. "And now… let's bring out our FINAL PAIR!" After he said that, two people walked out into the open, making their way to the center stage. And as Ochaco's confident expression flashed on the screens above, the crowd cheered loudly.
"LET'S GO, OCHACO!" Iida screamed.
As Ochaco straightened, frowning in determination, Present Mic began with his routine.
"In one corner, we have a student from Class 1-A! With a Quirk that will catch you slipping and tripping, she's bound to blast off into the top four! It's OCHACO URARAKA!"
As people clapped some more, Buttercup slowly stopped as she fixated on the screens with a disgusted look.
"Ugh! Look at that!" Others looked at the screen, curious to see what Buttercup was talking about. And it was then that they were met with the unpleasant scowling face of Bakugou.
"Eek! He looks so… crazy!" Bubbles squeaked, trying to look away. Next to her, Izuku sighed softly, "That's Kacchan for you."
His voice is immediately drowned out however, by Present Mic. "And in the other corner, we have a strapping 'gentleman' also from Class 1-A! Fiery stares and spiky hair, this guy is ready to bring the heat to this match! It's Katsuki Bakugou!"
As the crowd cheered, Bakugou didn't even bother to look happy, nor did he bother to look at the crowd. Instead, his glare was adamantly fixated as already preparing herself.
Before Midnight could step in and say her usual phrase, Bakugou put a hand out suddenly, making her stop in her tracks.
"If you're looking for a fair fight… back out now." He growled.
Ochaco's eyes widened. "Huh?"
"You heard me, Pink Cheeks. If you're smart, you might as well drop out of the match now. Because I won't be holding back on you."
Ochaco was quiet, taking in the words. Until, her glare grew in intensity. "Don't worry, I'm counting on it."
Bakugou gritted his teeth, just as Midnight decided to swing down her baton.
"BEGIN!"
Instantly, Ochaco rushed over to him, a plan in mind. And innstantly, the ground shook as fire bloomed from Bakugou's hands, straight at the girl, sending her back without a care. As the hit landed, the crowd let out some "oohs" in reaction and several people winced in terror. But Ochaco was still standing, chiding herself at a rookie mistake.
"Stupid. I knew that attack was coming, and I still didn't dodge it." She said under her breath.
A smoke cloud grew to cover the arena, shrouding some things from view. Some people in the crowd leaned forward, trying to see better.
"Man, what's going on?! I can't see anything!" Buttercup whined.
But just as she said that, Blossom hurriedly pointed, "Over there!" Sure enough, out of the smoke, where Blossom was pointing., Ochaco's gym shirt came flying out, for which Bakugo on reflex, shot a blast straight at it. Not realizing it was a decoy.
"Huh…?" Bakugou muttered, frowning at the shirt.
Before anyone could notice, Ochaco rushed him from behind, shoving him hard. She pulled back, ready to touch him and finish the match.
'This is my chance, I can make him float!' A determined face, as she was nearing her objectives. But unfortunately for her, Bakugo could see her attempt from the corner of his eye and wasn't going to let her get an inch more closer.
"DIE!" Without hesitation, Bakugou aimed a large explosion at her, blasting her away. As she skidded to a stop, she launched herself back at him, keeping low to the ground. Once Bakugou blasted her away, kicking up debris and dust. Yet, Ochaco got back up again, still trying to rush at him.
"Jeez. This dude is demolishing her!" Kaminari said in horror.
"The guy is a beast!" Sero added.
"Is she okay?" Tsu asked, a worry undertone. The girls were also having several expressions. Bubbles was worried for her classmate, Buttercup and Blossom were keeping an observant eye on the match. Each side, having different sights set.
"Looks like she's not resting between attacks, despite being exploded. Poor girl." Present Mic said solemnly.
Each time she was sent back with an explosion, Ochaco popped back up again. Izuku and Tenya were looking at the scene with horror sickened the while, the crowd watched with bated breath and judging eyes. The latter seemed much more apparent as people began to murmur among themselves.
"She looks like she's getting desperate. Her attacks are sloppy."
"What a disgrace. He should be ashamed, laying hands on a GIRL!" A certain hero said.
The last sentiment was starting to be echoed by a majority of the audience, taking the girls for a loop.
"What the hell are these people saying?!" Buttercup exclaimed, getting riled up. Second time someone said that.
"We're SAYING that this guy should stop hurting a girl!" Someone a couple of rows up shouted.
Blossom had enough as well. "Oh that's ridiculous! Why should Ochaco being a girl have ANYTHING to do with the match?!"
"Can't you see?! He's clearly exploiting his advantage over her! It's biology!" Another person yelled.
"Yeah ! He should stop being a bully and get her out of the ring already!" Interestingly enough, that comment came from lady hero.
"All of you…SHUT UPPPPP!" Immediately, the crowd quieted at the sonic scream form Bubbles. All girls were up now, standing with a stormy look in their eyes.
"Honestly! Are you all mental?! You have no right to talk down on her, just because she's a girl!" Blossom reprimanded them.
"Yeah, in case you jerks haven't realized, there are girl heroes among you, who are also TOUGH as nails!" Buttercup might have seemed to be talking about other female heroes, but she was referring to her and her sisters.
"SO SHUT UP! The only person you should be ashamed of is yourselves!" Bubbles screamed "You have no right to tell people to hold back! Uraraka is MORE than capable of handling it, and you need to ACCEPT that!"
"OR BACK OFF!" The girls said in unison.
Many of the Class 1-A and B, were shocked to hear the girls outburst. Even Izuku was surprised.
"Whoa." He said under his breath.
"How disrespectful." Said Iida, appalled his classmates behaviors.
That statement was more shocking to the audience, because the girls pretty much talked back to the pro heroes, something that was really taboo to do.
"What!?" Said most of the common audience, who were shocked.
"They have the nerve to talk back to heroes?!" Said a random person.
The hero part of the stadium was just puzzled that some little girls were shaming them and basically ordering them to shut up. They risk their lives to help the world and that's the thanks they got.
"Looks like those girl are causing trouble again." Death Arms growled along with most of the Pros.
"I knew they were trouble. With their powers and attitude." Mt Lady said, waving her hand dismissively.
"Honestly, who are you kids to tell us what to do?!" Another hero scolded, as if ready to teach them a lesson.
"Yeah! You better learn some basic respect, little girls!" Another person said.
"Why I oughta-" Buttercup was ready to show the crowd what this little girl could really do, until-
"Those girls are right! How dare you assume that a person is weak, just because she is a girl. If that's your way of thinking, go home and change your life." Aizawa said, his voice a little more stricter this time. "Bakugo's fierceness is an example of a notable attribute in Heroes, which is not underestimating his opponent. This is no exception no matter who decides to walk on the UA stage."
"I wouldn't say the guy's attitude is notable in a good way." Buttercup said underneath her breath, but shrugged nonetheless. 'Honestly, these people could be such idiots.'
At his words, the people who were protesting seemed to lose steam.; though some still had a bitter test about some little girls telling them off. But before anything else could be said, the stage shook again. Ochaco had just gotten blasted back, and it took her a little longer to stand up. Meanwhile, Bakugou paced the stage, clearly agitated.
"You… how are you not dead yet?!" He murmured.
As she stood up, Ochaco was suddenly smirking as she wiped her face, some soot coming off with it.
"I-" She said before swallowing. "I can't answer that… but I can tell you one thing."
Bakugou's eye twitched with confused rage. "What?!"
Ochaco's smirk grew. "Thanks tor not looking up."
Silence overtook the arena. Then slowly, Bakugou looked up and so did the crowd. And they were greeted with the sight of floating rocks in the sky.
"No way…" Bubbles whispered.
Blossom nodded. "That was her whole plan after all."
That was when Ochaco suddenly brought her hands together, touching her fingertips. After that, it was like a switch flipped as all of the rocks lost their zero-gravity and fell and Bakugou was right in their impact radius, looking up at them falling down.
Almost all of the crowd was standing now, as they watched the rocks fall.
"Since when were there rocks floating?! And how did she-" Tenya started to shout.
"Her Quirk." Surprisingly, the answer didn't come from Blossom, who was about to say the same thing. Instead, it came from Monoma as he watched them fall. "It's a shame that Pro heroes didn't notice it. She was planning to use her Quirk at the beginning! She wasn't throwing herself at Katsuki for no reason." He explained. "She was trying to get him to create rocks from his explosions."
Buttercup hated to agree, but understood.
Blossom nodded, admiring her tactics. "And all she had to do was use her Quirk to float them up and catch Bakugou in the crossfire when it was complete."
Buttercup slowly smiled as she looked at the stage. "Hmm, her power is really something."
"GO OCHACO!" Izuku shouted.
Down below, Ochaco grinned as she rushed at Bakugou again, aiming to touch him with her Quirk. But as she got close, she noticed something on Bakugou's face.
He looked calm. Abnormally so.
"Oh no." Tenya turned to Izuku's terror-stricken voice. But before she could ask what's wrong, the minute she turned away from the stage, an explosion had taken place.
Suddenly, large blasts of fire rocketed into the air like fireworks, taking down the rocks in one fell swoop. The blast's shockwave was instantly pushed out, knocking back Ochaco and rattling the crowd. It was quiet, as tendrils of smoke surrounded the hazy arena.
And as the smoke cleared, Bakugou was in the centre of the destruction untouched. While his opponent was struggling to get up, before she was K.O'd.
"URARAKA'S DOWN!" Present Midnight yelled amid the quiet stadium.
Last Match: Izuku vs Jurota
Ochaco was wheeled away to Recovery Girl's office, where funny enough, Buttercup also went to, knowing RG would want to do some training with her. There was some time before Izuku's match and he wanted to go and check on his friend, but would have to wait before then.
He instead was going over some last minute notes he had in the break room. Brainstorming some ways of how to go about the battle. He caught a glimpse of what his opponent could do and wanted to be best prepared. He was so wrapped up in his thoughts, that he didn't someone come in to the room.
"Hey Young Midoriya." Yagi greeted him in his skinny form. That brought the boy out of his rambling, thoughtful concentration.
"Oh, hey All Might." He embarrassingly said, realizing he was deep in thought.
"Sorry I didn't find time to catch up. But I see that you were able to work One for All into the race, great job." Yagi praised the boy.
"Thanks All Might." He gave a happy smile.
"Honestly, I am a little shocked that you were able to use that much of One for All. Although it's not really a lot, but hey." His comment kind of chipped a little at Izuku's smile but didn't show it. "Anyway, how much can you use now? My guess would be 4-5%." He remarked.
Izuku quickly snapped out of the sour mood to answer. "O-oh yeah…um, I believe I can at least use 5-7%, 10, for a short period of time." He deduced.
All Might gave a thoughtful hum. "Well, it's not much, but at least it is better than nothing, I suppose." There was a twinge of disappointment that was not lost to the green haired teen.
"Anyway, I am glad my teachings are helping even remotely get used to One for All, eh kid?" He said, patting his own back at his supposed teaching skills.
Izuku nodded. "Yeah, I couldn't have done it without you or the Kayamas." He said in a matter of fact tone, that caught All Might off guard. "Oh, ah, what do you mean?" Confusion in his voice.
"Well, I asked for their help with training me for the last few weeks leading up to the Sports Festival, taking a week off to practice by myself. They gave me some great advice and got me thinking of incorporating some certain moves in to my arsenal." The teen said excitedly to his mentor.
Yagi didn't know how to respond, not really knowing how he felt about those three girls. They had impressive abilities and their strengths are exceptional, but they look to be ones that won't follow basic instructions and will do their own thing. Today's outburst showed that they do not respect the other heroes.
In this hero society, we must follow the laws and regulations, if we are to uphold balance I the society. And respect one another. He only hopes that his young protégé does not get drawn astray by these said girls.
"Um, All Might." The voice brought him back from his own thoughts, to see the boy was slightly worried.
"Oh nothing to worry about Young Midoriya. Um, good job and yeah. Make sure to give it your all in the next match. All the best." Saying that, he left the boy a little surprised and confused.
'Okay…'
"Let's get started with the next match!" Present Mic declared to the stadium and the cheers of the crowd. "For this match we have the green teen from the Hero Course Class 1-A, it's Midoriya Izuku!" He introduced as Izuku made his way towards the ring.
"You go Deku!" Tenya cheered.
"You go Midobro!" Kirishima cheered also.
"Come on green bean! Show them what that big brain is made of, nerd!" Buttercup hollered, many people thought she was making fun of him, but Izuku knew that she was giving him a much needed encouragement boost.
Izuku took in a deep breath, and then exhaled, "All right. Let's do this."
"Facing him down is the beast man from Hero Course Class 1-B, Jurota Shishida!" Present Mic introduced Izuku's opponent. Jurota walked into the ring with a straight face and stood across from Izuku.
He made no sound as people from the crowd were cheering on, especially those from his class.
"Alright, are both competitors ready?" Midnight asked the two teens as they stood across from one another.
"Yes." Jurota replied.
"Ready." Izuku agreed with a determined look, as he took a ready stance.
"Then you may begin!" Midnight started the match with another sharp crack of her whip.
Right then, Jurota's form had changed. His size increased significantly, his hair grew thicker and shaggier, and his fangs became more pronounced. He looked on to his opponent with a devilish grin that made Izuku have to hold back a flinch.
"Jurota Shishida! Quirk, Beast, allows him to transform into a large, monstrous beast-man. This form drastically augments his strength, speed, durability, and senses of hearing and smell!" Mic said.
The smile Jurota was giving, was of a predator eyeing his prey, as they plan to attack.
As quick as a cheetah, he pounces at Izuku, an inch before his claws made contact to the green teen's body. Izuku was mentally thanking any god up there for his quick thinking and quicker reflexes.
Unfortunately, Jurota was not letting him dodge so easy, he attacked again, delivering a strong kick that sent the boy tumbling, landing on his stomach.
"Yikes! That guy could probably duel Fuzzy Lumpkins on a one on one match." Buttercup commented, for which her sisters nodded in agreement.
For the past few minutes, Izuku was doing his best to evade the beast man, heck, he was even trying to land a 5% OFA punch on to the guy, but true to his quirk, he heard the crackling sounds and managed to dodge Izuku's attempt at counter attacking. Jurota was one with his animalistic side and Izuku was having his own difficulty. With his strength and durability, Izuku was barely managing his own, even with 7% OFA against the guy.
"What's wrong little boy? Not used to fighting someone bigger than ya?" Jurota asked in a mocking tone. That made Izuku's frustration grow and he dashed towards him with his 7% OFA and braced to deliver a punch. Jurota dodged the attack, countered with a swipe of his arm, that sent Izuku sprawling across the field, almost reaching out of bounds.
'I am getting nowhere with this.' Slowly standing up, he thought to himself. "What can I do to at least not get hit?" He muttered, before coming up with a plan.
"Okay 1-A, hero boy. Time to end this." He said amusingly. He charged Izuku, down on all four limbs. He bared his fangs, ready to finish it. Izuku was still, turning his back at his opponent.
"Oh no! What is the guy doing?!" Kaminari exclaimed, fearing that the green haired boy was giving up.
"Hey! Izuku, do something!" Mina shouted.
Bakugo was busy smirking to himself, thinking that Deku had finally come to his senses and was doing the right thing. 'Once a Deku, always a Deku.'
"Oh shit! The guy is going to get creamed!" Buttercup said, worry in her tone.
"I don't think so, Buttercup." Bubbles calmly said.
"What? How do you know that? The guy's back turned to the beast man!" She loudly exclaimed.
"Just look." Blossom offered, like she knew something to. Buttercup watched closely, hoping she was wrong.
As Jurota attempted to pounce on his 'prey', Izuku, squatting down, using 7% OFA, leapt in to the air doing a backflip that went over the unsuspecting beast man and when he made some distance between the both of them.
'Recovery Girl is seriously going to kill me.' The thought passed through his mind, as he activated 50% OFA. With both hands interlocked together, he brought it above his head and smashed down on the concrete ground, sending his own earthquake and cracks that sent the field to pieces. Jurota, didn't know what to do, as he was caught in the blast and did his best to avoid injury, but in doing so, jumped out of the way and on to the grass fields. Where he was safe but lost due to being out of bounds.
There was a quick chorus of silence before Midnight came out of it. "Jurota Shishida is out of bounds! Izuku Midoriya is the win-" She however could not finish her statement, she gasped, seeing the said winner on the ground, clutching his swollen, bruised arms in pain, a gritted expression of regret crossed his face.
Silence and concern were voiced around the stadium
"That FUCKING Idiot!" An angry voice said.
Author's Notes:
First of all- I wanted a little sister moment in my fic. Let's just say, Buttercup is not the only PPG who is protective of their sister.
Secondly- I really wanted to put Shinso in his place. I honestly liked the whole Shinso is Izuku's friend fics, but they always had a level of him still being an ass, an entitled one at that. It took re-writing this fic, to realize that he is an entitled, lazy prick. I really don't get why he doesn't just train his muscles instead of whining. The fan fiction Mean Rabbit, really gave me ideas for this work and I loved it. Also, the girls are not so much affected by other people's quirks, due to their genetic make-up, but that will be for later on.
Thirdly- This fic is longer than the others, mainly because I wanted to finish the whole first round of the battle in one go, lazy writing? Maybe. Am I tired? Yes. Also, I don't get how the Entrance exams were so flawed, another reason why I don't like Aizawa's reasoning's. I want to ask you guys, shouldn't a hero find a way of how to defeat their opponent, even when the odds are against you? Like, look at Batman and Superman (a whole argument on its own), Batman knows Superman is well, super. But he studies his opponents and comes up with strategies to fight. Aizawa is a perfect example of training can trump powers. But that is my opinion. All I am saying is that you also need brains, as well as brawns.
Lastly- I will be gone for a while. I need to study and won't be around to post. I am NOT giving up my fic, but I want to just take a break. I also want to say, thank you guys sooooooooooooo much for reading, liking and commenting on my fics. It brings a tear to my eye and I am just so happy that my little hobby is appreciated. This break is more for personal stuff, but I will be back.
BYE GUYS, FOR NOW!
