September 1, 2001

Helena's hotel room: She was pissed finding the Ice Princess gone. She suspected Stefan but didn't rule out others.

Gia met someone new who was tall, dark, and handsome; she didn't know he was one of the insane Cassadines.

Boxcar:
Elizabeth tried to get Lucky to look at the Ice Princess and follow her orders, not Helena's. He asked where she got it, and she told him she stole it. He could follow her demands instead. He wasn't cooperating and managed to get it away from her. He was going to throw it away, but she told him no. "Lucky, come with me to see Kevin. Helena is not in control."

"Leave me alone because I will never be able to bring back the love." Elizabeth guides him away, and Nikolas follows secretly.

"That's okay. That's not why I'm here. They end up at the pier, and Lucky threatens to get rid of the ice princess.

Elizabeth calmly says, "The Ice Princess is the key to releasing your programming."

Lucky said it was too late, and this was the only thing he could do to be free from Helena. He tossed the ice princess into the lake."

"Do you feel better or different?"

"I don't know what I feel. You don't need to worry because now you are free to move on and find someone to love who will love you back."

"I already do." However, she's not sure if that is true. The words were never spoken. Lucky walks away.

Nikolas arrives, yelling, "No! How could you let this happen?"

"I'll call for a diver."

"How could you be so careless with the Ice Princess and my brother? Not only can I not count on you, but Lucky can't either. He never could when Jason was around."

"Fuck you, Nikolas. You were the one who begged me to return. Don't act like a Cassadine with me." A chastened Nikolas apologizes.

Elizabeth stops over to see Sonny. He greets her warmly. After they catch up, she walks to Kelly's. She asks Bobbie if she can get her job back. Bobbie assures her that Sonny and Jason have asked her to keep her job available when she wants it. Carly arrives and is shocked to see Elizabeth.

"Where is Jason? Or did he dump your sorry ass?"

"It's good to see you too, Carly. Jason isn't here, and he didn't dump me. I chose to return."

Elizabeth visits her Gram and checks with her father, who has been storing her car. She stays with him while she gets her studio ready.

At Carly's house, Sonny is visiting with Michael. After Michael falls asleep, the two begin to discuss the state of their relationship. Carly begs Sonny to frame AJ to sign away his rights to Michael. Sonny asks, "Did AJ do something?"

"I hate giving Michael up two weekends a month. AJ doesn't deserve to be a father after a drunken one-night-stand."

Sonny presents Carly with divorce papers that she refuses to even look at. She won't give him a divorce. "Carly, you still cannot be trusted. You won't let your hatred of AJ go. You sold me out because you were too weak to deal with my lifestyle. Our marriage is over because you killed it."

AJ wakes with a bump on his head. Carly stands over him. "You poor thing, you must have fallen down drunk and got a bump on your head."

"Goddamit Carly. You just violated the terms of the custody agreement."

Zander appears, and AJ says, "Thank god you showed up. Carly is crazy."

Zander looks toward Carly, who nods. Zander throws papers at AJ and tells him to sign. AJ sits and reads, "Revocation of parental rights. This document signs over all parental rights to Carly and Sonny Corothinos." AJ blinks and says, "Zander, how could you do this to Emily? She will never forgive you. Carly, Jason will never forgive you for your part in this."

Carly laughs, "Not if you are dunk and a danger to our child." She picks up the papers and sets a bottle of bourbon on the ground. 'I'll give you time to collect your liquor, I mean thoughts."

As Carly and Zander leave the empty warehouse, AJ yells, "Zander, why?"

Zander yells back, "Carly stood by me when Sorel shot me. She helped me at the hospital." AJ hears the lock click, screams, and throws the bottle against the wall.

Elizabeth sees Zander exiting the warehouse district with a smug-looking Carly. She hears Carly say, "Let AJ cool his jets and bring another bottle of bourbon if he's thrown the first away. If he needs more convincing, pour it down his throat if necessary."

Elizabeth rushes to the warehouses, tries each door, and pulls it open. She finds one locked, bangs on it, and shouts, "AJ, are you in there?"

"Elizabeth? Is that you? Please let me out."

"I don't have the key. I'll call Sonny."

"No, he's probably responsible for this. I tried to make peace. I even looked the other way when Sorel took people hostage. I believed Carly loved Michael enough, and she and Sonny would keep him safe. I don't know who to trust."

"AJ, calm down. Please tell me you aren't drinking."

"No, I threw the bottle against the wall. It's shattered."

"I don't think Sonny is involved. I know Jason wouldn't approve if he were here. Zander will be here soon. If you don't want me to call Sonny, I'll get you out."

Elizabeth sits and calmly talks to AJ. She tells him of her travels with Jason. She says she visited Emily. Zander returns, and he is surprised to see Elizabeth waiting.

"Elizabeth, what are you doing here?"

She stands, "I was waiting for you." She slaps him hard. "Unlock the door and let AJ out. Emily would be ashamed of you for what you are doing to her brother, and Jason would be pissed at Carly for what she is making you do."

"Elizabeth, AJ is a mean drunk. I'm protecting Michael."

"Is that what Carly told you? Goddamit Zander. We forgave you for dealing drugs and kidnapping Emily. Now, you are forcing a father to give up his rights. I said to open the damm door!"

AJ exits and punches Zander. "Tell Carly I'm suing for full custody for what she did. Thank you, Elizabeth. I owe you."

Zander says, "Please don't tell Emily."

"Are we in high school? Emily is my best friend. She's going to find out whether I tell her or not. I'm sure AJ is telling the family and calling a lawyer. Sonny won't be happy either. He loves that little boy, and it will be yours and Carly's fault."

Elizabeth calls Sonny. "It's Elizabeth; I'm calling to give you a heads up. Carly fucked-up and will be on the warpath when the shit hits the fan. She will be out for my head when she finds out I intervened." Elizabeth tells Sonny about Carly's latest stunt and Zander's involvement.

Sonny gets Jonny to bring Zander to him. "Zander, who do you work for?"

"I work for you, Sonny."

"Would you rather work for my soon-to-be ex-wife?"

"No."

"You are a hothead, Zander. You answer to me. You don't listen. I'm giving you one more chance."

A/N: Jason fingers the postcards he bought. He jots down a few sentences and sends one to his sister. He learned from sources that her therapy is going well. He looks at another postcard and wonders if he should send it. He told her he wanted her to be happy. It would hurt if she moved on, but would his sending the card keep her from living the life she deserved? He sends a card with a picture of the Boulder Flatirons. He writes, "TOY," hoping she'll get the message ("Thinking of You").

Skye starts to tell Jax about Jeanine; he stops her and says he has already met the woman. Skye demands to know if Jax already has a deal with her. Jax replies that as ruthless as he is, he won't set someone up so he can take their company. Skye says she did not set Edward up but was going to capitalize on his mistakes. Skye explains she went to Atlantic City and ran into Edward. Jax replies, "Jeanine told me nothing happened. Stavros wants Laura for himself. He blames Stefan for turning Laura and his son against him. He plans on taking what once belonged to him several years ago. Stavros and Helena have an 'End Game,' and it's Lucky. Lucky surprises them when he proves he's no longer under their control. Helena is arrested. Carly and Sonny slowly reconcile. Carly wants to open a club and asks Jax to invest.

Maxie has a crush on Lucky, and Felecia tells her daughter that Lucky is too old for her.

Elizabeth travels to Emily's new rehab facility after finishing her finals. She leaves before Thanksgiving and says goodbye to her father and Gram.

11/1-15/2001

Sonny tells Carly she fucked things up with AJ. He warns her not to take retribution in Elizabeth Webber. Carly and Sonny rehash the past as they discuss their impending divorce. Wiping away tears, Carly tells Sonny she will always love him. But she knows now she must let him go.

Sonny told Carly he was not ready to let go of their marriage. "What has changed?" Carly inquired. Sonny continued to explain that she had changed and that he still loved her.

Carly said the only thing she had left was her self-respect, which she was trying to salvage. She admitted to being wrong about her decision to frame AJ. "So, now it is just you and me, Sonny. You have to love me with trust and forgiveness, openness and honesty. Can you get AJ to withdraw his custody complaint?"

"I'll try. AJ is allowing me to see Michael. He won't like the idea we are reconciling. Zander is non-negotiable. He can't be anywhere near Michael."

The Quartermaines were bickering when Jeanine waltzed into the room. Jeanine seemed happy for causing such a commotion. Monica wanted to know who she was, and Skye introduced her as a "college friend." Graciously, Lila insisted that she stay for lunch; she knew who Jeanine was and didn't care.

Jeanine was angry with Skye for trying to run things. Edward walked in and said it was all a scam. Monica berated Alan for sticking up for Skye when it was clear she had joined Jeanine in a con. Alan advised her to back off his daughter but warned Skye that toying with Edward could be dangerous. Monica reveals that Skye is not his daughter. She ran a DNA check. Alan throws Skye out of the house, and the Quartermaines silently cheers. Skye is pissed and promises retribution. She received a shock from Jeanine when the woman revealed that she was running the con to care for her daughter.

At Luke's club, Mike and Janine continued to stare one another down. She went on the offensive, asking Mike if he was interested in how her daughter was doing. Sonny shares a Thanksgiving dinner with Mike, and Mike begins to confess past sins until Sonny overrides him with his own admissions.

Lucky speaks to Liz over the phone, and he remains unsettled. "Elizabeth, I thought you'd be home by now. How is Emily."

"Emily is fine. She's been taking college courses. I don't know when I'll be home, but I'm glad you've broken free of Helena."

Jason arrives to visit Emily and hides when Elizabeth says her goodbyes. He wants to show himself but chooses to stay hidden so Elizabeth can be free to make her own choices. He catches the tail end of her conversation with Lucky and watches her leave.

A/N: (During this time, nothing could be found on Elizabeth as most likely Becky was on leave after giving birth to her first child...I added a new story.)

December 2001

Summary:

Sonny and Alexis flirt in PR

Kristina and Ned grow close

Gia and Nikolas announce their engagement

Elizabeth returns and leaves again

12/1-10/2001

Zander finally gets a call through to Emily to explain what happened with AJ. He begs forgiveness. She tells him she has met someone new.

Zander barges into the Quartermaines and yells, "I'm here for him," he points at AJ. Zander blames AJ for Emily hating him. He also blasts all the Q's for knowing Emily was with someone else and keeping it from him. AJ tells Zander that he has gotten what he deserves. Ned steps in the way as Zander lunges for AJ. Ned takes Zander outside, and Zander continues to rage against AJ. Ned tells him AJ is not the problem; Zander's actions are. He says that Zander's choices caused him to lose Emily; it is time for him to let her go.

Johnny brings Janine to Sonny's PH. She asks Sonny why he is taking care of her. He responds he wants to get to know her better. She thanks Sonny for his hospitality. He says she can show her gratitude by answering one question: What is her connection to Mike Corbin?

Mike arrives at Jake's, and Zander plays pool. When he asks if Zander has located Janine, Zander says no. Carly then arrives at the bar and spies Mike. She informs him that Sonny is back in town. They hear a door slam upstairs. Mike says it is probably Zander and fills Carly in on what happened between him and Emily. Carly runs to Zander's room, and he is trashing his room. Carly tries to comfort him, but he is inconsolable. He wants to know if love is supposed to beat everything, why he can't be with Emily, and why she can't be with Sonny. Carly doesn't have an answer. "What about us?" Zander asks. He pulls Carly to him and kisses her. At first, she resists but then responds in earnest.

Zander pulls her shirt over her head, and Carly unzips his pants. Zander tears off a condom, and after it's over, it hits him for what he's done. He's ashamed of himself for such reckless behavior. Carly tries to reassure him that it's alright and that he only did it because he's grieving his loss of Emily and wants to wreck his life. "I can relate since wrecking my life and making poor choices have been my mantra. I understand what you are going through, and no one needs to know what happened."

Zander receives a call from Sonny, thanking him for the heads up on Mike and Janine. He knows they are hiding something and tells Zander he'll find out what it is. He asks him to keep an eye on Carly and make sure she doesn't do anything stupid. Zander agrees, and they hang up. Carly tells Zander not to worry; she won't tell Sonny anything.

Carly signed Michael's custody papers without argument. She apologized to AJ and hoped he'd forgive her. AJ says, "You should thank Elizabeth because she convinced me if two parents are invested in their child's well-being, they should have that chance. Her mother never wanted or fought for her. She told me that if Carolyn had, maybe things would be different. I never wanted to cut you out of Michael's life, Carly. I don't understand how you could hate me so much to endanger my sobriety. But I'm giving you another chance, don't fuck it up."

12/10/2001

Elizabeth receives a call from an old friend she knew in Boulder. She tells her father she wants to visit Terry and promises to return before Christmas. Before her plane departs, she calls Sonny. "It's Elizabeth. If you can reach Jason, can you have him call my cell? It's important, thank you," On the plane, she shreds her napkin and drinks Diet Coke. She worries Sonny won't reach Jason. Terry picks her up from the baggage area. She hugs the man who gave her first kiss when they were in 7th grade. "Thank you for picking me up, Terry. The long hair looks good on you. DIA has already grown from when I left five years ago. I think I flew out of here once when they built it. Before that, it was Stapleton."

"My apartment is about half an hour away. Stapleton Airport was closer to home than DIA. I made reservations and have something important to tell you after dinner."

"Sounds good."

After dinner, Terry drives them to his apartment. Elizabeth says, "Before you tell me your exciting news, did you decide on Med School?"

"Yes, I'm returning to Boulder after my undergraduate studies at the University of Denver. Biz, I wanted to tell you in person and not over the phone. I've gone through all the counseling sessions, and last month, I began hormone therapy. I'm transitioning to become a woman. In two years, I'll undergo surgery."

Elizabeth is speechless. She never knew her first crush wanted to be a female. Fortunately, she grew up in a medical family, and her Gramps were accepting of everyone. "Terry, it's a good thing I no longer have a crush on you; otherwise, I'd be offended it was because of me. I'll support you in any way you need."

Terry breathes a sigh of relief. "Thank you. I've wanted to tell you about it for years, Biz. My brother won't speak to me anymore. Since I started the treatment, I'm identifying as female. You look troubled."

"Yeah, I am. I'm hoping he gets my message."

"He?" Elizabeth explains how she's trying to reach her friend Jason. "Oh, my. I hope he calls. Does anyone else know?" Elizabeth shakes her head. "Let's get some sleep. The couch is made up for you."

Elizabeth wakes up in the middle of the night in severe pain. Terry checks her symptoms and says, "Porter Hospital is two blocks away. It will be faster if I drive."

Terry waits outside the ER, cradling Elizbeth's cell phone, debating if she should call Jeff. The phone rings; it startles her, and she nearly drops it. She answers, "Elizabeth Webber's phone."

Jason worries, "Who is this, and why is Elizabeth not answering her phone?"

"You must be Jason. Elizabeth is in a hospital in Denver, Colorado. I think she'd want you here."

"What hospital? I can be there in two hours."

Jason arrives, and based on Elizabeth's description, Terry runs to greet him. "Jason, I'm Terry, Elizabeth is with the doctor. I'll take you to her."

Jason finds Elizabeth lying on her side in a hospital bed. Her face is pale except for her eyes, red from crying. He looks at the doctor and wants to know what is wrong. He asks if he can join Elizabeth in bed. The doctor nods as she explains what happened to her patient in clinical terms. Jason crawls next to Elizabeth and holds her.

Elizabeth stays overnight and is discharged the next afternoon with instructions to take it easy for a week. The doctor recommended that she wait a week before traveling. Jason books a hotel suite for him and Elizabeth. He watches her closely and ensures she follows her doctor's instructions. Elizabeth updates him on the Carly/AJ/Zander drama. Jason clenches his teeth and tells her he will handle Carly the next time he sees her.

Terry visits daily, and Jason learns more about Elizabeth's childhood friend. Terry brings a box to Elizabeth and tells her she found it in her parent's attic before they sold the place. "I planned on sending it to you, but I forgot until now."

Elizabeth gasps, and she opens the box while resting in bed. "My journals! I wondered what happened to them!" Jason teases her and tries to grab one, but she swats his hand away. "These are private, even from you." He leans down and kisses her. Elizabeth thanks Terry and, with her eyes, suggests she leave to give her time alone with Jason.

"Jason, Dr. Burns cleared me to travel. I need to return to Port Charles."

"Okay, I'll go with you."

"Doesn't Sonny need you for something?"

"I can tell him no."

"I won't stand in the way of what you do for Sonny. Besides, I don't want to have to answer questions about why you returned with me from Colorado."

Jason kisses her and says, "Are you sure?"

"I'm sure. Finish what you need. Port Charles isn't going anywhere. I'm not going anywhere."

12/20-31/2001

Lucky and Zander were playing pool at Jake's and talking about love. Lucky anticipated Elizabeth's return to Port Charles to convince her he was a better person. Lucky returned to Kelly's to find Elizabeth in conversation with Bobbie. She says she got back last night and will stay with her father for a few weeks, but she won't be able to work for two weeks. Bobbie asks if Elizabeth is okay. Elizabeth replies, "I'm fine. I'm stressed, and school starts soon. I'd prefer you don't make a big deal of it, especially with Lucky."

"Oh, Elizabeth, Lucky would help if you needed it. He's better but still needs your support. You could help each other."

Elizabeth grits her teeth, "Bobbie, you've been a good friend and boss; I know Lucky is your nephew, but I'd appreciate it if you could stop making me feel guilty for not supporting him the way everyone wants me to."

"I'm sorry, Elizabeth. I won't mention it again. I'm here if you need it."

Lucky walks into Kelly's. Elizabeth smiles and asks how he is. He tries to kiss her, but she turns away. She tells him nothing has changed.

Lucky suggests getting the gang together for breakfast tomorrow. "Elizabeth, I don't want to live in the past. I want to start over and create a happy future for us. Please give me another chance. Elizabeth avoids his comment and says, I'll be here tomorrow at 9 am.

Lucky meets Nikolas on the docks. Lucky apologizes for getting him out of bed, "I saw Elizabeth yesterday at Kelly's. She's home, but something is off. She wants to meet us and Gia for breakfast. Nikolas tries to reassure him that it's just the remaining doubts that Helena programmed in his mind and that Elizabeth will get over it. He says that absence makes the heart grow fonder and to take things slow with Elizabeth, and their feelings will be there. Lucky doubts it. He mentions the conversation he had with Elizabeth earlier. Nikolas is sad to think everyone is off in different directions.

Breakfast is strained, and Elizabeth forces a smile throughout. She tells them about her visit with her friend. She leaves out her hospitalization and Jason being there for her. Gia shows her engagement ring to Elizabeth. She says she is very happy for the two of them. She excuses herself as soon as she finishes her breakfast. As she leaves, Nikolas looks at Lucky quizzically.

12/21/2001

Zander finds a young girl in a remote part of town. Her car has broken down, and he offers to help look into it. Zander again offers because Port Charles is a long way. The girl allows him to look at her engine. He asks her why she's out in this part of town, and she says she's looking for someone. He tells her to look in the phone book. The girl blurts out that Janine must be in trouble because she said she would only be gone for a few days, and it's been weeks. Zander recognizes the name, and the girl asks if he knows her. Zander tells her that his boss can find anyone and offers to take her to meet him. He persuades her to come with him. Courtney wonders what business her mother could possibly have with such a man. Zander calls Sonny and tells him he found Courtney. Sonny asks Zander to bring her to him.

Courtney tells Sonny that her father is dead. She is stunned when Mike barges in. Courtney says, "Daddy?" as Sonny and Janine look on. Sonny fumes when he learns that Mike is Courtney's father, and Courtney lashes out at Janine when she discovers that Janine always knew that Mike was still alive.

At the hospital, Alan shares the story of Christmas, and Tony poses as Santa Claus for the children of Port Charles. By the end of the day, everyone gathers at the memorial to remember those lost during the defining year and share their hopes for a bright future.

12/23/2001

Sonny and Carly are at her house watching Michael play with his toys. Mike arrives and tells Sonny that Courtney has disappeared and that he would like his help to find her. Carly is surprised to know that Sonny knows about his sister. Sonny, in turn, is astonished Carly knows about Courtney. Sonny finds Johnny and sends him out to look for his missing sister. Sonny tells Mike to meet him at the PH.

Courtney surfaces at Kelly's and slumps onto a chair at the counter. Gia is trying to find a dollar for her coffee at the counter. As she searches her purse, she lays a $20 down, which Courtney promptly grabs and tries to escape. Gia chases after her and accuses her of stealing. Courtney tries to cover, but her excuse is flimsy. Finally, she yells out that she slept in her car last night and only wants to get it fixed and go home. Nikolas and Lucky offer Courtney their assistance. Nikolas offers her money to fix her car. At first, Courtney refuses but then agrees. Lucky accompanies her to the car parts store. Courtney purchases the part needed to fix her car, and Lucky wishes her luck.

Courtney fixes her car. Unfortunately, before she can put it into gear, it dies again. Near tears, she begs it to start. "Need help?" AJ asks. Courtney sighs and nods. AJ calls for a tow and waits with her. Zander arrives and tells AJ to get lost. AJ tells Zander that he sure got over Emily quickly, and Zander wants to punch him. He tells AJ to go and that he's got the situation handled.

Sonny lasts Mike for not telling him about Courtney. He says he is tired of Mike making mistakes after mistakes and waiting for Sonny to clean up his messes. Sonny demands to know how Mike could abandon two children in one lifetime. Mike, defeated, cannot answer his son.

Janine arrives and tells Sonny the truth about why she kicked Mike out. She says that he gambled every dime she had saved, and she couldn't take it anymore after eight years. They were better off without him. Zander arrives with Courtney in tow, and they begin to argue again. Courtney tells her mother that she is no better than her father. Mike gambled with money, but her mother gambled with her life. Sonny dismisses Zander and then asks Mike to take Janine outside. He wants to talk to Courtney alone. Courtney tells them just to give her money, and she'll be out of their lives forever.

12/28/2001

Sonny reminds a wary Courtney that she's family now. Warming up to her new sibling, Courtney compares notes with Sonny on growing up as children of a compulsive gambler. Sonny invites his sister to stay for dinner.

A/N:

Sonny asks Elizabeth if everything is okay. He says that Jason didn't tell him anything, but he knew it was important enough for Jason to drop everything to see her. Elizabeth shrugs off Sonny's question and says she is fine.

Carly conceptualized and imagined what her new club would look like. Zander tells Carly about Courtney's encounter with AJ, and Carly has an idea.

Sonny told Alexis about Courtney, his new sister. He commented about her and her sister getting together. She said they were different because she knew her sister as a baby.

I have dropped clues about what happened to Elizabeth but have purposely left out what happened. The next chapter will reveal what happened. Please keep your guesses to yourself as they could either be wrong or spoil for others.
