It was a beautiful day; birds were singing, flowers were blooming, and the trees were swaying back and forth in the gentle morning breeze that swept the Central Academy.
The sunlight kept creeping up until it illuminated a particular room in the Slifer Red dorm of a very special individual. As soon as the light graced his face, he woke up with a huge yawn. Smacking his lips, the boy got out of bed and made his way to the bathroom.
He picked up the toothpaste and toothbrush that sat unceremoniously at the edge of the sink, and after applying the paste, he got to brushing.
Or rather, he would, if he hadn't dropped the toothbrush and he saw his reflection and saw that the person in the mirror wasn't him.
The person staring back at him appeared to be a young boy between the ages of 15 and 16, with purple hair that ended in blue highlights. His two crimson-colored eyes were wide with shock.
With a trembling hand, he ran his fingers across his face and hair, trying to come to terms with his new appearance, and now that he was more alert, it finally dawned on him that he wasn't in the hospital any longer.
He quickly left the bathroom and back into the bedroom and started carefully analyzing his surroundings when something caught his attention: the posters that were hanging on the walls.
One was a worned-out poster advertising the Battle City Tournament and the other had none other than Yugi Moto posing alongside Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl with the words "KING OF GAMES" written in the bottom.
His head turned to a table in the corner of the room. There were two things on said table: an old-looking desktop computer and, more importantly, a GX Era duel disk with a deck sitting neatly next to it.
Slowly making his way to the table, he picked up the deck in his hands and immediately recognized the cards, and his jaw nearly dropped. It was his Predaplant deck.
The Predaplants were an absolute powerhouse, capable of fusion summoning multiple times in a single turn and even being capable of using the opponent's monsters to make the aforementioned fusions.
Then it finally dawned on him: he's in the Yu-Gi-Oh anime world, and by the looks of it, it's the GX world, and not only that, he has what is quite possibly the most powerful deck this world has ever seen, and they were his.
He then spotted something that was under his deck; it looked like some kind of old-school brick phone. Curious, he settled his deck down, picked up the device, and started to carefully analyze it, spotting a few buttons on the side. He pressed one of the buttons, and the screen came to life.

"Oleander…" The now-named interloper said his new name a few times before smirking. Things were going to be oh-so-fun. Setting his PDA down, he made his way back to the bathroom for a long and relaxing bath before properly starting his new life.
A few minutes later, the door to Oleander's bedroom was kicked open, and from within, the boy of the hour himself emerged wearing a fresh Slifer Red uniform alongside a pair of black jeans that ended in a pair of purple shoes.
Making his way downstairs and towards the cafeteria, the purple-haired interloper settled for a simple sandwich with ham and cheese alongside a mug of coffee, which were quickly wolfed down. Now bathed and with his tummy full, he set out to class.
At the classroom
Oleander entered the room, and judging by the number of people there, it was a safe assumption to say he was very late for class, which earned him a glare from Crowler, who stopped his lesson to turn to face him.
"Good to see at least one slacker decided to drag themselves out of their bed." The professor then narrowed his eyes. "May I know the reason for your late arrival?"
"Sorry, doctor," he said, taking a vacant seat next to some Ra Yellow students. "Something came up earlier this morning and required my undivided attention," he lied while running his hand through his messy purple locks.
"May I know what this so-called issue is?" He leaned against the table while resting his chin on the back of his hand.
"Familiar matter," he lied while placing his arms on the back of his head. "And before you say anything, no, I won't say what it was," he smacked his lips after saying that last part.
Crowler simply growled lowly at the response while muttering "slacker" under his breath as he turned on his heels and walked back to the blackboard. Until he stopped dead in his tracks and turned around once more, his scowl was replaced with a smile.
"Class, I have a better idea on how we can study the intricacies of duel" he clasped his hands and his smile grew wider as he locked eyes with Oleander
The class was instructed to make their way to the dueling, and the purple-haired Slifer was smart enough to know what Crowler had in store for him, but he didn't care; it would be the perfect test for his Predaplants to shine.
A smirk crept up his face as those thoughts started to run through his mind. This is going to be oh-so-fun!
At the dueling field
"Very well class, if I call your name you will step forward" he said while pulling a sheet of paper and a pair of glasses.
"Shinji Abiko, please step forward." He looked up from the stands, and a boy wearing an Obelisk Blue long coat got up. He dusted himself with a scoff before making his way to the arena.
"And his opponent will be..." He looked over his paper and where the Slifer Reds were sitting and smirked. "Oleander Hemlock," he said while chuckling.
The purple-haired Slifer got up from his seat and gave his professor a wink accompanied by a two finger salute before walking down the steps and towards the dueling field.
"Now pay attention, class," the head of the Obelisk Blue dorm turned his head towards his students and smirked, "This will be a quick duel." That last part earned some chuckles from the blues.
Both students went through the usual procedure of strapping their duel disks and shuffling their decks before taking their positions.
"Hey!" Oleander waved at the Obelisk Blue "Good luck!" He gave him a thumbs up and a smirk.
The Obelisk Blue simply scoffed and launched a disgusted look in Oleander's direction. What a nice guy…
The duel disks emitted a noise before activating themselves, and both duelists wasted no time before quickly drawing their starting hands.
Duel!
[Author's notes]
Hey there folks! It's ya boy! Mac!
And I am happy to launch Chapter 1 (R). As many of you can see, I didn't change a whole lot about this chapter, mainly the grammar and how Oleander dueled against Shinji.
Now, why did I change the circumstances that led to the duel? Simple. Chapter 1 still had vestiges of the character Oleander was originally supposed to be before I changed him to the scheming, laid-back rapscallion that takes his job way too seriously.
Now, why didn't I include the duel in this chapter? Simple. I was afraid it would bloat things out too much (and besides, I get really burned out after I write a duel).
But anyhow, I will soon start the rewriting process for Chapter 2 (R), though it will take a bit longer because of the aforementioned duel, but it will come out eventually.
Don't forget to leave a review containing suggestions and/or criticisms. I read all of them!
That's it, folks! Mac sign' out!
