Our first year of marriage is simply perfect.
You got your dream wedding, and I wept like a baby watching you come down the aisle in your pretty white dress. You looked so beautiful, and I thank my lucky stars that I get to call you mine on a daily basis.
I offered you the choice of what we did for our honeymoon and booked our cruise to Alaska that very night. Sure, we spent a lot of our time in the privacy of our cabin, but we also managed to do some exploring and activities. It wasn't a total bust.
We returned home two weeks before the school year started, and I helped you set up your classroom. After having you to myself for three weeks, it was hard going back to work, but I prevailed, and we transitioned into married life flawlessly.
You cried the morning your car died and the mechanic told us the engine was blown. I offered to pay for it to be fixed, but you just shrugged, accepted the small check from the salvage yard, and let me take you car shopping.
Your lime green Mini Cooper isn't your forever car. It's just a placeholder for if or when we decide to expand our family.
Six months after the wedding, we did just that. We were just grocery shopping on a random Saturday when we noticed a ruckus in the parking lot. A stray kitten had crawled out of the engine of a delivery truck and everyone worked together to catch the little fur ball.
I ended up climbing under a sedan and retrieved a few angry scratches, but I managed to save him.
You took one look at his dirty face and singed whiskers, and I just knew we were taking him home with us.
Chester is a Mama's boy through and through. If you're sitting, he's in your lap. Cooking, he's sitting on his designated chair, watching you with adoration. I think he loves you almost as much as I do.
Shortly after Chester came crashing into our lives, Kate and Garrett announced that they were expanding their family.
Jasper wasn't for it in the beginning. He hated the idea of sharing the attention, but as always, Alice was the voice of reason. She reminded him how great it was to have a sibling and how much he loved her little brother Tyler.
Now, he's impatiently awaiting his little sister's arrival. She's still got a couple more months to cook, but he's hands-on preparing.
It felt like everyone around us was having babies when we sat down to have the important talk.
Was it something we wanted? Now? In the future?
We agreed to wait a year before we started trying but got plenty of practice in the meantime.
I finally got the pool covered and a fancy hot tub installed. We spent a lot of time in the water that first year. We still do.
Life moved on, and our love continued to grow. It seemed impossible, but it did.
