1st Aug - Medieval

Prompt:

Upon succeeding the throne, Amy raced on horseback to find her old childhood friend, a knight who longed to adventure and explore.

She knew what she was about to ask him could fulfil that desire in his life, but also… the responsibility would be great as well.

It had been almost a month after her coronation, and she wasn't able to go by their favorite spot in the forest to meet her friend, back when she thought her older sisters would take the throne.

Turns out, her older sisters all fell in love and got married to different kingdoms, leaving the throne here and claiming their husbands' kingdoms as their own. With loyalties so detached, and the council worried that assassinations from close family members wanting the throne might transpire without proper protection of herself, Amy took the throne and was heavily guarded daily.

But maybe… maybe she could see her fair knight and convince him of the greatest sacrifice, and greatest adventure yet.

She dismounted her horse and quickly lifted up her long and luxurious, trailing dress as she moved through the lush forest gardens and into the dirt and strawed house that made up his humble cottage.

Sonic was chopping wood, but using his homing-attack to slice through, training as he did his basic, day to day, and needful chores.

He wiped the sweat off his brow after having sliced through some wood and prepared the next block, about to jump and do it again before turning to see what he thought was a beautiful forest nymph from the woods.

"Good morrow?" his eyes blinked, "Pray, this be not a spell." He looked worried with a nervous smile, before seeing Amy appear and recognizing instantly her face. "But, what ho? My dearest fair friend, the one who used to chase my complexion like the moth to the flame? Ere, our ranks were tossed to the wind as we frolicked and played as young spirits often do. But hark, she comes, and what do I say? Queen? Majesty? What have she with poor woods boys as me?"

After his aside, Sonic didn't know how to present himself. He looked down at his worn shoes and torn hat before taking it off and kneeling, not knowing what else to do.

He scratched his nose, not really used to addressing a 'friend' so formally.

"Sir Sonic! I'm glad to have met you this day." Amy breathed a little coarsely, due to having left her horse quite a bit behind her. She placed a hand to her slightly exposed upper-half of her chest and took a moment to re-catch her breath. "How are you, dear and loyal friend?"

"Mesmerized. I-I mean-! I am quite uncertain why you have graced me today as friend. Are you not now… well…" he put his hands together, then parted them as he spoke quickly with confusion, before scratching his nose again.

"If I may be permitted to speak plainly… considering you know me to be a man of unelogant speech."

She smiled, nodding immediately, "Of course, faithful Sonic, do as you normally please." She outstretched her hand for him to rise and he did so.

"Amy…" he spoke very forwardly, opening out his arms into a shrug, "How are you able to come here? Unattended? Are you not now the queen of this realm? And thou comest to me?"

"Sonic, I pray, hear me out."

Immediately, she reached out to him to explain, and he gestured to a fallen log for her to sit on.

The two then sat as Amy explained, "For these past many moons I have been trapped inside my own castle."

He lifted a foot up to the log and drew out a sword that was strapped to a belt around his waist. "And I must save you!"

"N-no, I have fled." She sweatdropped.

"Oh." He withdrew the sword, "Carry on." He leaned on his knee.

"Ehem… I raced this way to your humble bode to warn you of my sufferings. My kin transpire to take the throne from me, since I am young and inexperienced, they believe this is a good time to strike at my throne."

He drew his sword again, "Say no more! I shall take them down, one by one! Traitors to the courts! And sinners to the heavens!"

"…N-No… That's not what I've come here to ask of you, good knight." Amy once again reached up, patted his hand gripping his anxious sword, and lowered it down again.

"Do let me finish, old friend."

"Hmph. Then could you hurry up or what, princess." Sonic grumbled in impatience, tried of the same old thing and ready to get a move on.

"Now you're almost too informal," Amy rolled her eyes, before tenderly pleading up to him, her eyes showing her deep trust in him. "Sonic… You've always wanted to do something great with your life… and you've given me so much to believe in as a child…"

Seeing the informal use of her language, he also sat down and listened intently.

"Now, there is the Amy I know." He spoke with great fondness, which made her smile.

"Sonic… Will you be my royal guard? Will you accompany me in all my travels and stay loyally by my side? To defend me, as well as the kingdom's last hope, in keeping us out of the hands of our enemies?"

He made a face, as if testing her words by looking into each one of her eyes.

She held her peace…

After a moment, he raised an eyebrow while reaching for his sword, waiting to see if she would stop him again.

When she didn't, but pulled a secret dagger out of her own dress, showing it off, he leaped in joy onto the log and pointed it straight forward. "I may not care much for politics, my lady. But hear me now! An oath! A solemn, heavy oath! One that shall weigh on the shoulders of my kin for generations to come!" he then bent himself down, winking and whispering, "Not really, I wouldn't force them into our little arrangements, but it's best to make it sound pretty, don't you agree?"

She giggled as he leaped up again, having endless energy and acting as though he was fighting an enemy on the log, moving around her as to not accidentally hurt her.

"I shall fight for the kingdom! I shall roam with you wherever thou goest! I'll-.. I'll-! I'll be a hero!" he jumped over her and spun, before swiping his name into a tree.

"There. It's done." He sheathed his sword and offered her his hand. "Honestly, you could have just gotten to the point. But I'll need my friends at my side. They deserve such titles as any knight, but they also are a great help to me in any service."

He was now just showing off, bending politely but acting more than his rank.

Amy nodded, "Any you need should be given to you." She curtsied too, before kissing his hand, which was not common for a lady to do, and taking off to her horse.

"Then, meet me and your entourage at the castle gates! We have much work on rebuilding the kingdom's trust and protection." She lifted her dress and mounted her horse in shocking ease, before waving and taking off.

In a bit of surprised confusion, Sonic looked at his hand, flipping it front and back, before turning to her retreating frame again.

"Dare I say, Sonic… Whether it is for noble rights or selfish indulgence… She is simply working a enchanters spell on you." He wiped the hand away, worry creeping into his voice, "Bade thy hand not to fall, and thy heart not to race. Whatever this feeling may be, she is Queen, and you a lowly monk." He teased, smirking slightly in nerves before going back to his logs. "…Then again…" he smirked to the sky, and quickly dashed off at his super-sonic speeds to Tails and Knuckles, the friends he had mentioned.

"If a loyal man is what she is asking for, perhaps I can endure her odd advances and still do much good!" clearly, he wouldn't be indulging himself… (wink wink)
