Prompt:
Racing forward, Sonic found himself back in the world he knew and loved. The air was fresh and the flowers were in full bloom. Didn't look like Eggman was gonna strike today…
But he always struck unannounced.
Unbeknown to our hero, a pink hedgehog lay silently awaiting an encounter with her true love. In her hands, she held a chaos emerald, hoping to impress him with it as it had flown like a shooting star across the horizon where she just so happened to be. It took a full day for her to locate and retrieve it, but she was filled with the desire to personally hand it to him. After all, she had only seen his super form once, and it would be amazing to see it again!
She sat at log and admired the emerald, rubbing it lightly with her glove to clean off any smudges or dirt that still remained from its rough landing.
Soon, better than never, Sonic raced by at the speed of sound, simply glad to not see destruction and mayhem anymore. He completely missed her going by, but Amy held on tightly to her emerald and ducked her head, closing her eyes.
When she looked back, she was surprised to see he hadn't stopped for her. Not realizing he hadn't seen her, she puffed up her cheeks and grew upset. She jumped off the log and sucked in a powerful breath, before belting out a loud cry for him to come back.
His name reverberated through the air and he suddenly found his head cocking back, his ears searching as his heels screeched to a halt.
He lifted a hand up to try and cup his ear… listening…
He figured someone had been in trouble or needed his help, and quickly backtracked.
By the time he arrived, she was already nestled up and turned on her side against the log she had once sat on. She was sniffling and had tucked the emerald away… So Sonic only assumed she was lost or scared.
Coming up to her, he tried to reach out to her, wondering if she was okay.
She flinched at first, before turning around and looking surprisingly shocked. Overjoyed he had returned, she tried to reach her hands up and hug him, but he moved away, a little freaked out.
The gesture didn't do any good though. She took his actions as though he might have come back for the emerald, but not her.
She teared up again, her eyes growing bigger and soggy. She burst out into a full-on cry, belting out her sorrows which only made Sonic the more confused.
What was she doing here and why was she crying?
He tried to help her up but she just kept going limb on him, refusing to really allow him to help her up and just kept crying.
He tried to take her arms and tug her up, but she would just fall forward and kick her feet, leaning her head up to cry some more.
Finally, he let her go and sighed, looking annoyed at her inability to explain why she was so upset.
He finally looked around, feeling like this was going nowhere, and wondering why she called to him in the first place. He saw some flowers in the distance and brightened up a bit; Girls love flowers!
He disappeared in a blink of an eye, as Amy's eyes blurred out of focus before she wiped them off.
She stared off in the distance, seeing a faint blue line and continued to feel abandoned, drooping slightly as her cry-fest seemed to dissipate somewhat.
You know the type of sadness that comes from disappointment? It weighs on you so much that your body begins to grow too tried to cry?
She began to lose all hope that he cared about her and began to watch with weakening spirits as the blue dot stopped and hunched over to grab something.
Then her curiosity perked, and she wondered what he was doing.
Sonic looked over the flowers and found himself carefully deciding which one appealed to him the most.
Thinking about Amy, he tried to pick the flower that most suited her. He found one that was a beautiful lilac, and for some reason, felt very drawn to it.
He scratched his chin a moment, examining the other purple flowers, before finally nodding his head and smiling in accomplishment.
He carefully broke the flower from it's seeded plot, and quickly took a sniff to make sure it was perfect.
He wasn't aware of how strong the pollen had built up in this area, and immediately he began sneezing.
When the little blue dot half way across the way began to jump to random sides, Amy laughed and laughed. She wondered what silliness he was up to and her tears began to dry. How could she stay mad at him for so long, anyway? She started to wonder about the chaos emerald and began to slowly reach for it.
That was when the blue streak suddenly flashed her way, and all at once…
She was staring into emerald eyes, Sonic holding a flower out to her with a gentlemen's smile on his face.
She was amazed to see him return, but her heart fluttered and she immediately swooned before taking the flower and placing it up against her chest.
He really was a sweetheart…
When he tried to be.
In a bit of Lalaland, she hadn't remembered the emerald, and instead, went to hug hug him again.
With her arms stretched out, Sonic couldn't help but feel that if he didn't take the hug, she may start crying again. Reluctant, he looked away and held out his own arms, having her about to jump into them.
What they both didn't see, was the glowing red eyes staring directly behind Amy. Having tracked the emerald to this location, his scanners revealed the chaos emerald to be tucked carefully over her back quill.
Metal Sonic revved up his engine and waited for his moment to strike. Sonic was still preoccupied with a doting Amy Rose, so Metal calculated that the perfect time to swipe the emerald would be now, when his attention was displaced.
Metal Sonic charged into her back, startling the two as he reached and pulled out the emerald. While doing so, he wrapped an arm around her waist and flew up, having Sonic too momentarily 'jumped' so to speak to react fast enough.
Amy floundered in the air, her hands gripping his arm that now was dangerously close to her neck, threatening to suffocate.
Sonic's jaw grinded against his teeth, hunching down to jump and strike before Metal held up the emerald.
Immediately, Sonic was taken aback that Amy even had a chaos emerald, and seeing his surprised expression, Amy realized he had truly come back for her and not just the powerful stone.
Her face softened to see him looking worriedly to her before striking a confident pose, swiping his nose to give her faith that he would get her out of this sticky situation.
Metal was trying to throw a leverage of sorts, Amy for however many emeralds Sonic had on him at the time.
He could clearly see Sonic had none, but perhaps something even greater than that..?
What did Metal Sonic want from him?
Metal rose up into the air, menacingly threatening to take Amy into higher altitudes.
Sonic's eyes widened slightly, and he shouted up to him— It's me you want!
Metal Sonic had already gotten what he came for, what was he planning?
Metal spun around and threw Amy up onto his outstretched claw, he mimicked a laugh as his eyes flashed with the action, trying to show he had the 'upper hand' so to speak, over Sonic this time.
He took off towards Eggman's base's location, streaking across the sky as Sonic remained speedily on his trail.
How dare he make fun of him!
Not too long after, Metal and Sonic were now inside the compounds of the Eggbase. Metal Sonic gestured that Sonic would have to fight to stay alive, otherwise, Amy would be—
He used his claw like scissors, cutting a small section of her quills off as she screeched.
Sonic's anger rose in him, Metal better stop threatening his friends… he was about to not hold back.
Tons of obstacles and challenges were placed all along his path, following Metal Sonic threw them before finally looking a little worn and torn.
He huffed and wiped his mouth, having taken out so many badniks, as Metal Sonic still seemed able to fly around some more.
Amy saw the look of determination in Sonic's eyes, but also the weariness of the cruel venture Metal Sonic was putting him through. She wasn't leverage, she was bait. He was using her to get Sonic to wear himself out, and then he would strike him.
She covered her face. How could she have let this happen? She should have just handed Sonic the chaos Emeralds when she had the chance! Now… Oh Sonic…
A fire lit within her when Metal Sonic had distracted Sonic again with more spikes coming up from the ground. As Sonic expertly dodged them, the fun of this day starting to wear off some, she immediately turned to Metal Sonic and summoned her hammer.
With a declaration of love, she blasted a battle-cry, and slammed her hammer into his face, then down upon his head.
Sonic looked up to see her falling through the air, the moments of bravery starting to falter before being caught up in her hero's arms.
The safety she felt in that moment drew a happy hum from her as she leaned against his chest, smiling.
Metal shrieked a metallic cry and powered up his engine once more. His arms up at an angle, fidgeting with sparks of hatred and rage.
Seeing the approaching danger, Sonic helped Amy down and stood ahead of her, arm out to protect her.
She truly felt protected, but she wanted to do something for him in return…
As Sonic charged Metal, the two collided in speedy spin-dashes, but when Metal broke apart and reached for the emerald, he looked back to see it wasn't there.
In Amy's arms, she held the emerald, and smirked as she tossed it to Sonic.
Sonic caught it with ease, sharing the same smirk as he turned back to Metal Sonic, who leaned back in shock at the deception. While he was focused on Sonic, Amy had taken the emerald and hit him to release her.
He shook his fist, holding it up and crunching it down with frightening force.
She wouldn't get away with this…
As Sonic used Chaos Control against Metal Sonic, Eggman peeked his head out from the corner, realizing his plan was being foiled slightly by this pink nuisance.
Eggman reached out to Amy, wickedly grinning as he scooped her up. She cried out but he was too late to shut her mouth, covering it with his enormous hand.
His mustache drooped as Sonic turned around, having blasted through Metal Sonic, and him crawling upon the ground.
Sonic gave a dead-pan look, lowering his eyes and slowly shaking his head.
Eggman agreed this was unwise and gently placed Amy down, patting her head before swiping the emerald and doubling-over into his machine in the other room. He hooked up the emerald and began blasting.
While Sonic dodged the missiles being fired back and back, Metal continued to crawl towards Amy Rose…
She was so fixated on rooting for Sonic, she didn't see the threat behind her…
Metal leaned up from the ground, his engine and back legs busted, or torn straight through/out.
Eggman was close to victory, seeing Sonic cornered and reeling back his large metallic arm from his fighter robot… but then something strange happened.
Amy was smashing her hammer into an advancing Metal Sonic, dragging himself towards her as she kept trying to hit him away, terrified and pushing him back just like a girl would swat at a bug creeping towards her.
Eggman momentarily looked away and Sonic raced up the other arm, having Eggman turn back confused on where he ran off too and looked around.
While the robot searched, Sonic ripped some metal folding off, having fun now as he dived in started creating havoc.
The robot started to act out in funny ways—ballerina, tornado, and then finally hitting itself before falling over and exploding from within.
Eggman's face was burnt, his mustache twitched before shouting out his frustrations. He was silenced at once when he saw Sonic was behind him, hunched over in the cockpit.
Sonic smiled mischievously and started spin dash all throughout the control pod of the robot's head.
Once the shield broke off, he dashed to save Amy, as Eggman leaned over with blue spikes all scattered over his body.
Ouch… that actually looked pretty painful…
He twitched a moment, but didn't move, accepting for now his defeat.
Metal, on the other hand, refused to back down and grabbed her leg.
She cried out, her eyes shrinking in terror before Sonic kicked the arm off of her and smashed Metal across the room.
He opened his hand out to her, and she looked curiously to it, before he gestured her wanted to borrow her hammer.
She gave him her hand instead, acting flirtatious about it.
He looked unamused, but rolled his eyes, deciding to play a trick on her.
He spun her around and lifted her off the ground, throwing her to Metal Sonic.
She freaked out but was able to hit him pretty hard against the wall, where he short-circuited and began to fire off mini-explosions.
Eggman was crawling out of his pod before looking afraid at the possible explosion and started to race out the door.
Hobbling as he did so, he was able to break out before Sonic, who went to grab Amy.
The explosion triggered the large robot to also malfunction further and have the last of it's core battery burst into flames.
With all the smoke, Sonic couldn't see the exit, holding Amy underneath him as he looked for a possible escape.
Amy coughed, and for a moment he looked down at her as if she was the only thing he cared about…
He had to make sure she survived.
He took out the emerald and teleported through Chaos Control as the hold place started coming down.
When she woke up, she noticed how beat up Sonic looked, and cried again.
He was startled to see she had opened her eyes in tears, and worried it was his fault. Trying to wave his arms out and comfort her wasn't working as well as he had hoped… So he went to the one thing he knew did…
Amy opened her eyes, turning away from him, and then again to see a familiar lilac flower in his hands, presenting it once again to her. She looked to see if she still had hers and realized that hers was more pink than the lilac he was holding, which was a greater blue.
He put this one under her headband-wrap, and smiled as he admired it.
Don't cry.
Never cry while I'm around.
To this day, Amy still remembers him turning Super once they got the rest of the emeralds, and him taking her a lilac field… casually resting there and reminding her every time he lifted a flower for her to sniff—
Don't cry.
I'll never give you a reason too.
I'll always be with you.
